Beautiful location and the food was also beautiful

Food was lovely. Went for mother's day. We will be back again.

Came for mother's day lunch, have absolutely nothing for children, no menu (smaller plates) and no choice other than a full 3 course meal. How any restaurant can expect to survive with such a poor offer and no compromise. If we hadn't paid a deposit we would have left!!

Hotel has beautiful view. Breakfast and morning staff wer fantastic. Big let down we had to complain about the mattress. You sat on it and went straight to the devan top. Awful . We did complain they offered us another room . But didn't like the room it was cold and not inviting . They changed the mattress over was better But couldn't sleep as still not the best .told all mattress wer new. Sorry no. The bar is nice but got charged a diffrent price each time we went . Not just 10 or 20p £1.50 ..asked why told that the price . Apart from those 2 things our room was warm and cosy and clean .

Only stopped for a meal there was four of us and all of our meals were top notch well worth the price . We would recommend THE AFAN LODGE to anyone

absolute brilliant from entering to leaving staff and food 1st class went 24th january for wednesday grill night for our 36th wedding anniversary 2 mains and bottle of wine £40 food was stunning ad starters best garlic mushrooms i have tasted and the presentation of our meals 1st class definite be returning

Amazing Sunday lunch as usual nice and quiet after we moved because couple brought baby who was banging toy on table and crying. Other room was peacefully great staff great service. Children under certain age should not be brought out for meals unless they can be controlled and quiet

Great food and drink as well as a friendly atmosphere.

We attended the Afan Lodge for the New Year's Eve celebration, did not need to book accommodation. The whole evening was exceptional - great atmosphere, great curry with choice of 3 different ones with sides. The singer Kleason was brilliant and so was the DJ (didn't get his name). The cost of the ticket was £25 was good value for money. The staff were brilliant, friendly and the young barman remembered our rounds despite being really busy. The only downside was paying £1.90 for a dash of Pepsi Max in a spirit, the whole tab/bar bill was reasonable however we spent £19.00 for the mixer off the tap.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here...rooms were very clean and comfortable and all the staff we dealt with were absolutely excellent. Breakfast was brilliant and my plant-based diet was well catered for, with my partner enjoying his bacon and egg buttie! Sadly poor weather meant we didn't see much of what we believe to be a wonderful view of the surrounding forest park. We would love to return and would definitely recommend this place.

Booked a table for dinner for 2 and 2 dogs, food was good but was let down by the 25min wait for a drink and 1 hour for food! They appeared to be understaffed for the amount of people they had in the restaurant and bar.

Love coming to Afan Lodge for MTB. Ride straight from the lodge. Plus super convenient after a long day's riding, have a great meal in the restaurant.

We have visited a number of times and always enjoyed. We stayed the night last year and it was a lovely experience. However recently we ended up quite disappointed. We came and did the Halloween Hunt which was a lot of fun, we decided in the moment to book for Sunday lunch. While food itself was cooked lovely and tasted nice...for the 3 of us the portion of veg was tiny, I could count the carrots and pieces of broccoli on one hand and with the swede it all fitted in one small side bowl, we had a tiny jug of gravy that was meant to go around us all. The service wasn't great, we had to go up to ask for more gravy which was given after a slight wait and the waitress looking very put out because she had to stop leaning over the bar having a chat, so we didn't even bother mentioning the veg, we had discussed at the start having dessert but after this we swiftly decided to not bother and we didn't really hang around afterwards, the food don't get me wrong tasted lovely but the portion of veg and gravy could have been better but the service overall was poor, it didn't look like they wanted to do much. It has put a huge dampener on us returning in the future.

Bang in the noddles of the trails, and everyone is so accommodating and friendly there was 8 in our group and nothing was a problem! Fantastic!!

Beautiful location, staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you and hands down the best Sunday dinner we’ve ever eaten out. We visited today for the 5th time, but this time brought 20 other people with us, the service was so quick, even though the pre order never reached the staff on shift. The food was so tasty, plenty of veg and gravy too. Great value for money and we will definitely be returning with the family in tow again. Thank you all that were working today, you were all amazing.

Great stay with groups, great accommodation and good pub on site. Of course the mountain biking down the road is excellent and the Lodge caters for bikers very well

Amazing location, big rooms with wonderful views. Staff really friendly and attentive. Really dog friendly Rolo (our dog) loved his stay! Food at the restaurant is really good breakfast freshly made to order would highly recommend staying here!

Went in for a breakfast as all the other cafes in the area seemed to be shut mid week. I was on my bike so location was perfect for the route I was taking. Well what a pleasant surprise. The staff were super friendly and service was timely and great. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Cracking breakfast at a fair price given the lovely location and service. I would definatly go again and consider staying if I return to the area.

Evergreen Arboretum is a paradise for tree enthusiasts. The diverse collection of tree species is impressive, and the informational plaques are a nice touch. The peaceful ponds and benches scattered throughout make it a great place for reflection and learning about nature.

Seaview Manor lived up to its name with breathtaking ocean vistas from every corner. Our room was elegant and had a balcony where we could watch the waves. The staff was attentive, ensuring our stay was seamless. The on-site restaurant served exquisite seafood. The coastal walks nearby were a highlight of our trip. We left with memories of the sea etched in our hearts.

Really great food and service. Great views, we went for Wednesday night steak deal. 2 sirloin steaks and a bottle of house wine for £35.00. The cook really knows his/her stuff. Amazing value, pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, we shall definitely be returning. The desserts were amazing too! Try the Crunchie ice-cream.

Fantastic breakfast. One of the best around. Good quality and very reasonable. Staff very cheerful and friendly. Not long to wait. Location was beautiful. Very comfortable and chilled out in the bar area to eat and drink lovely coffee. Dogs allowed in the bar too

Our 4th visit to Afan with our dog. Its a great place with fantastic, friendly staff. They are all so polite and helpful and always give a warm welcome. Food is always great. A beautiful view with easy access to good walks. A happy lurcher.

Please note, this review is explicitly about the restaurant. We didn't stay here. Most of the food was very good actually, but the service was painfully slow and not at all attentive. We arrived 15 minutes early, went to order drinks at the bar, but were allowed to be seated early. Good start. We then waited 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take a drinks order. By then, we'd decided what we wanted, so took the opportunity to order. We ordered 2 x starters and 2 x mains. Starters were; soup of the day (the server didn't know what it was, but I ordered it anyway), I'd say it was Broccoli and Stilton. It was very nice anyway. The other was baby squid, but as we joked, it had probably grown up by the time we received the starters. After waiting 15 minutes for a drinks order to be taken, we then waited 30 minutes for our starters to arrive. My wife said it was tough, and it was undoubtedly in the saltiest sauce I've ever tasted, borderline inedible I'd say. Mains then took an age to arrive too. My wife had chicken and veg kebabs and I had fish and chips. Both were delicious and VERY generous portions. Good job on the food at least. Sadly, due to the lengthy waiting times, by the time we'd finished starters we needed another drink. We tried to get attention of waiting staff, but none around. No matter, I got up and went to the bar. When I get there, it is now clear why there are no staff in the restaurant. There were 4 of them in a tiny space behind the bar.........none of them serving until I got there. I ordered drinks and the staff were very polite, added them to my bill and brought them to the table a few minutes later. Redeemed? Not quite, they left the empty glasses on the table even though their hands were now empty. It may seem like a little thing, but good service is all about those little things, isn't it. As it happens, I think we were lucky. A group behind us waited over an hour for the food to arrive and I heard one of them say, 'I only ordered salad and chips for God's sake'. Not great all in all. We only made the journey from Cardiff to buy a voucher for a friend who loves it, so I can only assume it was a bad night for the kitchen. The staff, all early 20s I'd say, have a lot to learn though. We won't be rushing back, but we might give it another go if we're in the area because most of the food was very good.

Perfect location for mtb in Afan forest. Recomed a valley view room as the road side is noisy. Staff were very friendly and food was excellent highly recommended we will be back Highly recommended Wednesday night grill night, quality cuts and generous very portions.

Very friendly setting and great service

Fantastic stay while hitting the MTB trails which are almost on the lodge’s doorstep. Cold beers on the terrace while the sun set were a highlight as was the filling dinner and breakfast. Staff were all super friendly- would definitely come again.

Terrible service. We booked a table here on a quiet Friday afternoon. The lemonade was flat so we were given alternative drinks, we were told “don’t worry we won’t charge you any more”, despite my soda and lime now being cheaper than lemonade. The halloumi burger that we had ordered came out as halloumi fries, when we told the waitress she took it back to the kitchen and then told us that the kitchen was now closed at 2:30, this was at 2:31. She asked us if we still wanted it but by that point we had no choice. No apologies and quite rude staff. Will not be returning.

A quality place to stay for mountain bike trails right out the door, mostly positive for the large portions of tasty food after a long tiring day of riding and clean tidy rooms as opposed to the usual 'hostels'. 45mins from Bike park Wales isn't ideal but stay there if all you want is downhill

Despite confusion over booking which could have ruined Mothers Day lunch the staff went out of their way to accomodate our party of 6 Food was absolutely 1st class..beef dinner was best we had ever had. Kids devoured their dinners , All in all,what could have been Disaster Sunday turned into a 5 star experience

Beautiful location. Staff good. Lovely dining room and views. Very clean. However, note the double bed consists of two single mattresses pushed together. Not ideal. Good choice of breakfast, nice crockery but our food was a bit cold. Apple juice and coffee disappointing. If these small issues could be addressed we'd come again.

For the money, this place is bang on price. We visited mid Feb so not height of season. I am presuming this place caters in height of season for walkers and mountain biking, so I imagine it will heave We were dealt for food and drinks quickly, but again this may differ in busy months Room was spacious and clean

Top place for great food and service

We met our family here last night who were staying overnight in the rooms. We were a party of 6, the food was lovely, great value and plenty of it. The staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much. We’ve passed this place many times in the past but never gone in, we will definitely be visiting again. This place is also dog friendly which is a bonus 😃

My first visit to Afan Lodge and what a wonderful place this is in the Afan Valley surrounded by beautiful mountains and valley below. Car Parking is free and easy wheelchair access. Inviting and friendly atmosphere on entering this Lodge with staff on hand to help in any way they can. My stay for 2 nights was excellent for the New Year's Eve Celebrations. Afternoon Tea was in the package and what a real treat that was. Serving a selection of sandwiches my favourite being Roast Beef and Horseradish. Cakes and pastries and a yummy little Christmas pudding ball with a edible flower crowning it. Freshly baked Scones with Jam, Fresh Cream and Strawberries and fruit berries. Plenty of Tea or Coffee to finish off. Breakfast menu really starts the day well. The Welsh Breakfast Laverbread and Cockles on toast (my choice) with potatoes fried and cooked egg of choice was my favourite I loved it. A table with various Cereals, fruit, yoghurt, and Fresh Orange Juice and a toaster for choice of breads to toast was also available. And I do love a Pot of Tea, Coffee also available You will never leave hungry I can assure you. Lunch Menu and Dinner Menu have great selections that will suit all needs and choices. New Year's Eve Celebrations were excellent. Starting the evening with. DJ Compere with Quizzes including picture, Music and General Knowledge interspersed with a lovely Female Vocalist, singing songs for all tastes in music. The Dining Room Buffet was a highlight with many. The Chiefs on hand to Carve Roast Beef, and a Seafood Platter with Salmon and various seafood and Roasted Gammon. To accompany your Meats and Fish was a wide selection of Salads and Bread Rolls. Later in the evening a Cheese Board with a lovely selection of Welsh Cheeses and Fresh Fruit and Biscuits was also served. Topped off with a Glass of Champaign to toast the New Year in and Sing Auld Lang Syne. What a wonderful long Weekend. I will certainly be going to Afon Lodge again I would recommend and say try it for yourself. If you drive to the venue, Dog walk, or are a Biker or Trekking you will find a warm welcome. Enjoy Accommodation, Food or just Drinks. It is up to you to try it.

Six of us visited the Afan Lodge to celebrate a family birthday. We all ordered the Sunday roast option and a dessert. The food was of good quality and very tasty. The staff were attentive and responded very well to our needs. We shall be pleased to return! Just a minor point for consideration: it may be appropriate for each person to be served their own individual small pot of gravy (as opposed to six people sharing a few small pots)?

We had a fantastic meal lunchtime today at Afan Lodge. The meals were very tasty and huge with lots of added extras. Excellent value for money. Service was excellent and friendly staff. I’d highly recommend a visit 5 stars from our family

Perfect Monday evening escape from reality. Delightful warm welcome and incredible value for money. Can't thank the manager enough. She took care of our needs and nothing was too much trouble. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and we only popped in for a drink 🍸

Lunch for 230pm on a Saturday afternoon. Lovely views over the valley and the hotel itself is popular with mountain bikers as there are a number of trails of varying difficulty nearby. The restaurant is open for all and it's a very nice place for a group or family meal. Perfect scallops with butter samphire. Pan fried salmon Korean ramen was excellent. Moules mariniere also very good.

Had family over from Peterborough so heard that your sunday lunch was very good. It was very good great portions fresh veg and loved the celeriac sweet potato and butternut squash mash. Sweets were very good too there was nothing left on the plates going back into the kitchen. Staff were all plesent and helpful We will certanly be back for more 😁

Excellent meal in a superb setting. Having passed the Lodge several times both on the cycle track and the road, finally decided to try it for a Sunday lunch with the family. Couldn't be more impressed, all four of us enjoyed the meal and that includes a teenager and a pre-teen. Generous portion sizes and everything cooked nicely, and at a price which is comparable or cheaper than a Toby Carvery or a Harvester, but vastly superior. Will definitely consider going again and highly recommend it to anyone passing or using Afan Argoed in the day. Just one more thing to add, all the Staff we encountered were polite and attentive, thank you for a pleasant Sunday Lunch.

The food was all very good. The bar staff weren't overly on the ball, mixed up a couple of orders, but can't fault the place and would recommend it to anyone in the area.

After a day of mtb riding the best of Afan, we enjoyed a superb home made Burger and a well earned Beer. Highly recommend this stop off before heading home. Great food and friendly service

Wasnt to sure of this place when I entered and saw the menu. But when the food arrived I was like wow!!! I orderd a chick pea curry with rice being not an Indian place the curry was mind blowing .It was a big portion to.we orderd fish n chips which were fantastic ..grilled chicken with salad and grilled chicken with potatoes. The service was excellent staff were very busy but attended to everyone around came to ask if anything needed.will highly recommend this lovley restaurant 💯 plenty of car park space and beautiful scenery 😀

Excellent Sunday roast, one of the best I've ever had

Booked to stay 2 nights and when we arrived our booking had been cancelled! Completely ruined what we had planned for the weekend, as we couldn't find alternative accomodation. Didn't look like 4* hotel from reception/bar and restaurant!

Lovely food, but service was a bit slow.

4 of us spent 5 nights here and thought it wonderful. Shower in our room not wonderful but that didn't detract from the spectacular location, the wonderful food and the very friendly and helpful staff. My wife , my daughter and son in law who made up our party would love to go back again.

Have been staying here for years when we go mountain biking. First visit since covid restrictions and change of ownership. Enthusiastic new management , comfortable and friendly as always. Great to see them trying to get it back to its best. Everything you need when you've spent the day enjoying the local trails. Will definitely be back.

Really good value and good quality food and drink. Been twice now on two separate occasions and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is top notch 👌 Service is prompt and portions are a good size. Restaurant is very clean and tidy, and the views are great. Note it is popular and reccomend you book in advance to guarantee a seat.

Lunch Great views , the staff can’t do enough to help. The food was awesome. They handled allergies without any fuss. They re-arranged the menu they were offering and offered suggestions of alternatives. Superb! I love it here.

We had a lovely few days at this great location. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was great and the room was lovely. We took our dog and there was no issue with him being there. The location is amazing and it really is a fab place to stay. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable accommodation, sarrounded by dense green forest n vally views

We were due to arrive at 7:30pm, arrived at 8:15pm. Hopefully we able to have dinner, what a disappointment the chef had gone home unable to have food, only thing available was crisps costing £1-50 per packet, or send out for food. Price of drinks over the top, our rooms needed updating, bathroom/shower needs replacing out of date not very clean brown marks around bathroom area. Nothing there for entertainment pool table/dart board items you need to entertain yourself. Not sure my group of 4 would return again. You have to pay extra for breakfast above the cost of the room. Very disappointed.

A really lovely place to eat out with nice atmosphere. Very dog friendly (we brought four well behaved dogs with us!) and the food was lush. Reasonably priced too. The only downside was one of our group is vegan so she ordered the vegan house burger which came with a side of chips and coleslaw. We were not told the coleslaw isn’t vegan and fortunately I asked before she began eating. Perhaps the chef should reconsider this as non vegan sides really shouldn’t be served with vegan food unless specified on the menu (which it wasn’t).
