The Berkeley in Wigan

I really like this place. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good. I particularly enjoy Saturday nights here as everyone seems to just want to enjoy themselves. The security are pleasant as well which goes a long way. The age group is suited to all ages but predominantly middle aged and this is probably the main reason I like the place. Prices are on line with average I think.

Friend tried to go in on a Sunday evening 19, 1,2025 with his mate, he was turned away by the 2 door men, reason was he had trainers on and tracksuit bottoms, friend is 60 , is there a dress code for visiting this pub on a quiet Sunday evening, nothing special it's just a pub, any way his money spends anywhere so that's exactly what he did just went another pub, he obviously won't be rushing back to go the Berkeley anytime soon n probably be the same with everyone he tells about it,

Incredibly telling that all of the 1* reviews on here relate to attitude of the staff. I went in today, 24.12.24, and the bartender snarled at me for my ID before she even knew whether I was ordering alcohol or not. I’m 26 years old. Handed over my ID and she again snarled at me “full name?”, “date of birth?”. I have no problem being ID’d but the way she spoke to me was atrocious. Why choose a job that involves serving the public if you have such contempt for perfectly polite customers? I won’t be going back.

Had a fantastic day here. Denise does a brill job, the pub is spotlessly clean, well run and is the no.1 place for me in wigan. See below for more details....another visit to the number one place in wigan, it's so mellow visiting this place that it's an absolute pleasure, relaxed and enjoyable, for those who fear going out in the evenings it's the safest place I know in the northwest. Ivan doesn't let idiots in and Denise supervises discreetly but efficiently.. It's an incredible place and I can't praise it enough.

This place always have a great atmosphere also they always make you welcome the staff always goes that extra mile .

I walk in with my friends and immediately get asked to take my hat off. Then I got quizzed on info from my ID which I felt was quite rude. We didn’t feel welcome and were only allowed one drink each.

Told me to take my hat off when other people were wearing hats, clearly hated new comers or people in flat caps, either way poor service

The bartender asked me to take my hat off as soon as I walked in, while there was someone wearing a hat sat at a table not 5 feet from me. Take my hat off? Take that foul expression of your face.

All came in quiet, and over the age of 19, got told they would only serve one drink , and were very rude

Felt very unwelcome as soon as we arrived asking us to take our hats off. asked for IDs and then asked for my date of birth.

Can become very rowdy at times especially when there's a footy game on at the weekend, so it was a lil difficult getting served at the bar. I've been here before when it was a lot quieter during the day and I'd recommend day drinking here instead.

Enjoyable....after the noise of football ended lol...soz guy's I'm not a footie fan....

Brilliant pub and great staff, very welcoming. Entertainment five days a week from karaoke to live acts and bands and a lovely atmosphere. Funday Monday is brilliant lots of prizes. I've not been on a Thursday yet, but told the karaoke is good. Also, it is kid free as adults only pub.👌

Me and my partner refused entry as we tried to stop for a lunch time drink on our week off. Due to us having a daughter/pram. But more than happy to serve a man who shortly after passed out on the outside of the pub. Poor

Teach the bouncers what fashion sense is, declined entry for wearing cargos because they have “elastic” on the ankles, but let girls in with everything hanging out and lad wearing trainers🤣 sort yourselves out

Absolutely shocking. There was an announcement from the compare on Friday that there is 5 minutes before the bar closes. Thought ok time for the last drink. I requested if I could have another drink and the mouth from the barmaid. Why have you waited till now. I said the guy on the microphone asked if anyone wants a drink the bar closes in 5 minutes. I said no bother and turned around. She then stood behind me saying tick tock tick tock. I asked if she was speaking to me. Then I can’t repeat what she said on here. If management reads this please train your staff because they are Ferrell 😏😏

Drinking and dancing, what not to like.

Sorry I didn't know they served food if so from what I seen on the rest of the premises I would say 5 stars. So here goes

The service initially made a good impression, with a knowledgeable barmaid taking our order. However, a confusion occurred when I ordered singles, thinking I ordered doubles. The barmaid attempted to charge us for two singles per drink instead of a double for each of the 4 drinks. A simple resolution would have been to void the round and reprocess the order. Instead, the barmaid proceeded to make rude & derogatory comments, attempting to provoke a reaction. Despite staying calm, we were asked to leave. This not only soured our experience but also caused the pub to miss out on about three more rounds, and they had to dispose of the drinks.

Came in for a drink, went to the bar when the bar maid was unexpectedly rude to me also kept agruing continously.The atmosphere was pretty much empty and loud. Rubbish music, can't hear the football!! Came here many times before and have never been treated like this before but definitely won't be returning and will be advise my friends and family about my experience!!

Queue to serve, just gone. Fantastic service in all honesty. Lots of people waiting, all served tout suite. Marvelous.

The nights at the Berkeley are fantastic and the dj is brilliant at karaoke 🎤 nearly every night I recommend this place for very good entertainment for the whole family and friends alike its the place to be from Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday nights well worth a vist good atmosphere with the locals in Wigan,? Came here with my partner for a last drink before home... took a self photo of us, but because of the obvious trouble they have in here and around the centre these days, a simple own photo prompted the female bar 'manager' to follow my partner out of the pub accusing of taking footage, and th re tern ing to smash her phone.. very unfriendly place these days.. won't visit again..stay away from this place

It's a good pub very popular with the older generation in the afternoon. Service is always good and everyone praises the regular staff. Prices very reasonable compared to others close by. Toilets always clean. A seat near the French windows is good for people watching and believe me that in Wigan there are some sights. Minus one star as not dog friendly. If a dog causes a problem ask them to leave. Let the friendly ones in. 😃

Not great with the pub being darker than this photo actually shows during the daytime, and people being more pished than I’m used to (with not much room to move) — but they get three stars for having Heineken 0.0 on draught (otherwise it would’ve just been two lol)

Always call in here when we go to Wigan. Didn't eat here, so I can't rate the food. If the queing for your turn at the bar worked half as well as they thought it did, then it would be a good idea. It's wasn't by the way. WFT happened to the bar staff knowing whose next🤔🫣

Pub has a no hat policy. Barmaid was unnecessarily rude as I had a hat on (hot day) and did not explain the policy, which another customer kindly explained was for security. Horrible introduction to the pub which I will not use again.Quite happy to go hatless, but not when treated with such rudeness.

Good place for socialising with friends and watching sport. Didn't have anything to eat but have heard its OK.

Saturday night, busy but still got served quite quickly, DJ playing music we all liked. No youngsters in there causing drama, good night.

Great, lively pub in general. Come here quite a lot as it is cheap and usually has a good atmosphere. Bit of a concerning experience tonight, though. Ordered 2 Kronenbourg. Was given two Strongbow. Easy mistake to make as it was loud in there- no big deal. After my mate and I had taken a sip each and realised we'd been given cider, I took the drinks back to the bar. The lady who served us was mortified and really apologetic. However, another woman- who I presume was the Supervisor- decided to intervene. She immediately told me that I had accepted the drinks as sold and therefore they could not be exchanged. I politely explained that I had asked for Kronenbourg and had been given Strongbow. She asked if I had taken a sip of either drink. I replied that my friend and I had each taken a small sip before realising we'd been served cider. She replied that she therefore could not accept the returned drinks as, due to us having taken a sip, they could not be resold (bit weird). She further argued that, as we had been charged Strongbow prices, it would not be possible to make any kind of exchange. I tried to reiterate, again, that I had not ordered Strongbow but had been served it anyway. She retorted that the drinks were in Strongbow glasses and so I should have realised the mistake before accepting them. Obviously, anyone who has ever been in a pub will know that you don't always get the drink you ordered in a matching glass. The most concerning part of all was that she went on to advise me that the two drinks would need to be poured away as wastage and the full cost would be taken out of the wages of the staff member who served me. I, and other customers next to me at the bar, protested the unfairness of this. The "Supervisor" spat back- as if to justify it- that any wastage that she was responsible for would come out of her wages regardless. The lady who served me seemed very embarrassed and said she would just take the cost out of her wages. The whole thing was handled shockingly by the "Supervisor" who, to be fair, should be miles away from any kind of customer service. I can only hope that the way the poor lady who served me was treated is not representative of the way staff are generally treated at The Berkeley.

Good pub, close to wallgate station, which is across the road, a large interior offers plenty of space to enjoy a drink. 4 ales on offer.

One of the better pubs in town, but a terrible choice in lagers, fosters is a poor beer.

Good place, very hard working staff. The owner, not the Landord and Land lady needs to sort out the audio system, full bose system in that place and it doesn't work! Pathetic!

One of the better pubs in Wigan Town Centre. Good prices. Visit every week if I can. Update. Refused entry last night 7/5/22 as caps not allowed to be worn after 7pm at weekends. I've had my cap most visits over last few years during weekday and daytime visits. My cap together with the rest of me, my partner and our friends will no longer be visiting this pub. Spent thousands in there but no more cash from us.

Very busy good Friday but service was brilliant

Went on the weekend and if you like being like a pack of sardines then it's your place everyone is touching and seen a few old men making the most of it going past young ladies trying to have a grope and the girls not being able to stop it or turn due to the conditions of having no room to move and as for the dance floor it it fair clear but if you played GTA that is the dance floor nobody dances right just that cringe GTA style movement

I brought my boyfriend into Wigan as he's never been before and is from Birmingham. As soon as we got to the door and my boyfriend spoke, the security instantly became very uneasy and defensive, saying instantly we were not allowed in. I then presented my drivers license to prove I was of age but without even looking they told me it was not my ID. I did try to defend my case as it was in fact my ID and we just wanted a quick pint before our meal. The security then said we were not welcome and would take both of our IDs off of us if we continue. We had no choice to leave. This upset my boyfriend as he did not feel welcome in Wigan, never mind just this venue. Luckily all of the other venues around Wigan were extremely welcoming and we had a great night. However we do not feel welcome to ever step into the Berkeley after this.

Great Landlord Great location, feels like you're in a social club, for all ages. Top Pub Pity Wigan town centre is in such a mess(Wallgate) filthy street ,druggies hanging around every vacant door space. Police happy to leave them there, so that they can see them on CCTV. That doesn't make you feel any safer though. Clean up our town centre.

Great town centre pub traditional decor ..always a warm welcome very spacious ..Roy and his team are always friendly and great atmosphere and the beer is great Wainwright's..pendle witch ...!!

No food, no wifi, on the other hand beer is good.
