The Ber Street Kitchen in Norwich

We were looking for a late lunch in Norwich after a long and delayed train journey. We saw the good reviews online and visited the website, which confirmed they open until 5. We walked nearly a mile to get there and arrived at 3.30, to find them closing up. We asked if anywhere else nearby did food but they said not. Ended up with a take away pizza from round the corner. Very disappointing. Phone before you visit, Don't rely on their website.

We sat in the gorgeously green secret garden out at the back for a Sunday breakfast that solved every craving! Bacon and maple syrup pancakes and a full English that was definitely FULL, including black pudding Bon Bon’s and bubble and squeak ones too! The coffee was also delicious! 👌🏻 The chef popped out a few times to chat and she was really lovely too, thank you to you and your team 🫶🏻✨

Despite living close this was our first visit. It’s a lovely little place, nicely done, simple. Food was amazing and service great. Hope to go back to try Sunday lunch sometime soon. Highly recommend.

I have been to Ber Street Cafe a few times and although there is always a good selection of food including snacks/cake I’m always astonished by the attitude of the staff working there. Every time I’ve visited I have always felt like a ‘burden to them’. I visited the cafe on Tuesday to enquire if there was a table for myself and my Husband for Tea and Cake and there was no nice normal greeting of Hello’ ‘Welcome’ or ‘Good Afternoon’, instead the male staff member just barked ‘have you booked?!!!!’ to which we replied ‘no but we were looking for a quick snack and drink. He then replied loudly and bluntly ‘we don’t have space!!’. We totally would’ve been more understanding if the reply was ‘i’m so sorry but we are completely booked today’ but there was nothing of the sort and we were just spoken to in a rude and blunt manner. I’ve given this place plenty of chances to see if the attitude and behaviour of staff improves and it just doesn’t. Having read previous reviews this seems to be a common thing. I certainly won’t bother anymore to give this place my business and I won’t recommend to friends or family.

I was intrigued by this location, having been personally recommended, and highly reviewed. Upon entering I was treated and said I hadn’t booked. The staff guided me to a vacant position. It was busy and the atmosphere feeling comfortable. I ordered the full English and a drink. The drink and food came very quickly and delivered in a friendly manner. The food itself was well presented with perfect poached eggs and tasty bacon. The downside being deep fried black pudding bites, and deep fried mushrooms. Breakfast overall 6/10

Very busy, wasn’t greeted with a hello. Took ages to get my drinks, they arrived at the same time as my breakfast. I had wanted to go here for ages and was looking forward to it but won’t ever go back. Breakfast was ok. I felt as if they couldn’t cope with how busy it was even though they welcome walk ins.

We decided to try Ber Street Kitchen after struggling to book our group size with our first choice, and boy am I glad we did! The afternoon teas were plentiful, delicious and fantastic value for price. The team were so friendly too, and the astmophere very cosy. Two of our group were dairy-free, and they were well accommodated for and very happy with their afternoon teas. We came on a Sunday when others were ordering roasts, and said we would all have to come back to try them too.

Visited for one full and one veggie breakfast. Cafe is really nice, but quite small relative to its popularity so worth booking ahead. Everything was spot on and the artwork is hilarious.

Interesting menu - in a good way, with old favourites and more varied choices. Really nice feel to the cafe with upbeat staff and happy clients. Staff made us feel very welcome and looked after us very well.

3 of us dined for lunch today, we ate around 1 o clock it's now nearly 7 o clock and I'm still full! We all had a roast dinner. No pudding needed! It was gorgeous! Lots of meat, big yorkie cauliflower cheese roast potatoes mash potato one half of a whole carrot, same of a parsnip and crackling. Extra vegetables on the side included. Worth the money and hats off to the cook. Very impressed and will return! Thank u so much! X

Best breakfast in Norwich! The service was friendly from the time we entered to the time we left, fry up was the best I've ever had! We opted for the extra large one at £13.50 - let's just say won't need to eat for the rest of the day! The black pudding bon bons are amazing 👏 Will definitely return.

Tried to get a seat with an elderly family member on a hot day. We sat at a table with no reservation signs, relieved to get in from the heat. A staff member came over to us and abruptly and somewhat rudely told us everything was reserved. So we left. If this guy had been in any way polite or apologetic, we might have taken his offer to sit on the baking hot pavement side table that was free, but we declined. So, on basis of the welcome we recieved I would not recommend. It's a good 10 minute walk out of the main city center so if you are going to bother trying I would call to book. Maybe the other staff are nicer and we got unlucky.

I called ber street first thing in the morning to be told they don’t take bookings for tables, but there were plenty of tables outside. Though they couldn’t guarantee- which is fair enough. When I arrived Justin, the manager, I found to be rude. He said no tables, and we are no longer serving. I explained that I called but he made no apology and continued to show a rude attitude. What a shame as I hear the food is good, but the manager ruined the vibe. I hope no one else has this experience.

Super friendly staff and totally delicious well presented food. Would recommend, for breakfast I enjoyed the forestiere, a wonderful vegetarian version of eggs benedict with wild mushrooms.

Had a visit here due to reading good reviews. Food was nice and fresh and well cooked. I had the egg and bacon bap and friends had the egg and mushroom bap. The young man who was serving was very happy and helpful, a credit to Bet Street Kitchen.

We booked ahead for a Sunday roast as a family of four. Albeit a small dining area the staff were so attentive and the food came out quickly after ordering. One of the best roasts I have had to date, loads of meat, and sides of vegetables, well priced and even a little lollipop on the house for the children as a treat. We will definitely return.

We often visit Ber Street Kitchen, its our favourite place in the city for Breakfast. Would recommend

First, let me be fair and start by saying had my experience not been marred, this would’ve received a 4-5 star for the food. I cannot complain with what I ate and I can’t complain at the person serving us. My complaint is that our table was backing onto a couple with a dog. We arrived and had to ask the chef to excuse us so we could sit at our table, and he moved and went back to the kitchen. That was not before feeding the dog a treat by hand and I didn’t see any hand washing between the dog taking a treat from his hand and cooking again. He could’ve done it, I just didn’t see it. My real complaint however comes with the couple who insisted on holding their dog at table height, which made it no more than two foot from my face, at eye level. I had to actually physically move the table myself to create a comfortable gap between me and the dog, who if was called Gene Simmons, he could’ve licked the sausage from my fork. When the dog was eventually put on the floor for a few seconds, it was allowed to come and sniff round our feet, while the couple who owned Mutley just smirked as if to say ‘how cute’. I love dogs, I really do. But to keep an animal on the table and have it sniffing around other guests is incredibly weird and off putting. I find this a shame, because once I forgot about the possible lack of hand washing in between feeding hounds, the food was very very good. I don’t really have much bad to say about it. I would definitely go again for the food, but I would ask that if the owners read this, please could they consider adding some rules to their dog policy if they are going to allow them at tables. Like not allowing them off the floor, and not interfering with people who don’t want to interact with them. Nobody wants to look like the unreasonable idiot in that situation so I wasn’t going to speak to staff about it, and I wasn’t going to speak to the customer about it, I shouldn’t be in that situation. Not that this person probably would’ve allowed me to, they liked the sound of their own voice! I simply moved our table away from the situation and blocked out the sounds of Scooby slobbering behind me at ear level. Chef loves a dog though! Another came in and he was straight over with the hand fed treats. Maybe run a kennel as a side line? Anyway, very good food, I will be back and hopefully I won’t have the same marred experience. Woof.

Came here on the 18/02/2022 for breakfast. It wasn't my first time here, have been several times before and never had a bad visit. Nice variety on the menu and the portions are huge. Well worth the money. The staff didn't rush us and will recommend to friends and family. Would advise to book!

Being new to Norwich I was tipped off to this place by a local as it’s slightly out of the centre but obviously not so much of a secret to the locals as I was very lucky to get a table mid week at lunchtime. Most of the people had reservations and I could see why. People after me who hadn’t booked weren’t as lucky. I was there for coffee but the food looked amazing and it was clear that lots were regulars and the mid week fare of different hashes and proper meals rather than light bites (although they did have sandwich and other savoury options too) were going down a storm. I’ve heard the roast on a Sunday is a winner too…so lots of excuses to go back on different days but I’ll make sure I book!

I cannot recommend Ber St Kitchen enough. The food (and I’ve tried most of it now) is consistently delicious, I’ve never had anything that I haven’t loved whether it’s to eat in or takeaway. The service is fantastic as well, all the staff (including kitchen staff) are all so friendly and welcoming. And the best bit is they are really dog friendly as well. I can honestly say that this is mine (and my dog Jenny) favourite place for lunch. Be warned though, everyone else has also realised how fabulous it is so you will probably need to book.

We finally managed to have breakfast here before it gets too cold to eat outside. Stunning! There is a great choice of traditional and special breakfast - we had the haddock hash that came with spinach leeks bacon potatoes poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Huge portion with everything very well cooked fresh. Coffee excellent too. Prices offer unbelievable value. Young staff very professional and friendly. Now probably our favourite breakfast in Norwich - slightly out from the centre but well worth seeking it out.

A problem created by me when booking was immediately resolved by the very friendly and helpful staff. The food was great as was the service. My wife and I will deffo be returning to Ber Street Kitchen next time we are in the City

Visited at 8.30 on a Saturday morning with my family of 4. Place was not even half full, but was turned away and told “we’re fully booked”. Passed again 30 minutes later, and they were still half empty. Either their “bookings” were invisible, or they just didn’t like the look of my autistic child and decided to turn us away.

At last ..!! A cafe that is not overpriced, the food is delicious, the coffee was HOT. We all had the pancakes a very large portion, with crispy bacon. Not pretentious in anyway. Will be back very soon.

Having not been able to get booked in on a couple of occasions we booked well ahead this time, (they were having to turn ‘walk-ins’ away). There is a wide choice of breakfasts and drinks so everyone should be happy. Staff were pleasant and efficient with our order being taken and drinks quickly arriving. I went for the Full English which was everything it looked to be, good quality ingredients, cooked perfectly and plenty of it, anymore and you’d need a bigger plate. Sue had the Haddock Hash which arrived with a substantial Haddock fillet on the top of ‘the hash’, she was well impressed by both the taste and ingredients and was in fact defeated by the quantity. A Chai Latte & Flat White, both of decent quality finished off the meal, we were glad we were walking home. Certainly up there with the best breakfasts ‘up city’. Thanks to all the staff.

Probably one of the best, if not THE best, breakfasts I've ever had out. Generous portions for very reasonable prices. My partner had the full English and loved all of it (and he's a hard man to please). He especially liked the black pudding bon bons. I had the Portuguese hash and it was incredible!! Highly recommend booking a table if you plan on going (which you should).

After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to try this place out for a late breakfast, even though it is slightly out of town. It was one of the best full English breakfasts I've had, with the pork croquets and deep fried black pudding balls making it stand out particularly. My wife had smashed avocado on toast (As they had run out of smoked salmon) which was also particularly good. I would definitely recommend for breakfast/brunch. We went to Cafe 33 the day before, which was also very good, but here was even better.

Cannot begin to understand why this place has attracted any hype at all. Visited yesterday for breakfast. At £5.50 for a sausage/bacon/egg roll I was expecting something of good quality and reasonable size. One smallish sausage.One small piece of bacon (slightly overcooked).One small egg.Supermarket-standard bread roll.Really? Oh and Stokes' brown sauce is pretty foul compared with HP. Going back ? ........ chances of that are about as high as those of Norwich City winning the Premiership this season .....

We used BSK for some afternoon tea boxes for an afternoon lunch. My goodness they were amazing! So well put together, excellent value for money and they catered for several dietary requirements without any difficulty. The boxes went down a treat with the team, and the food was divine. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Just returned home after having a fabulous afternoon tea. Excellent range of delicious sandwiches, sausage rolls, cheese straws, scones and cakes all beautifully presented. Happy cheerful staff. A must go to cafe.

The food here was amazing, but the service was terrible and really let the place down. The waitress literally threw cutlery onto the table for us, forgot parts of our order and then refused to split the bill (we only wanted to split it in two!). Such a shame as otherwise this place is lovely.

There's really only one word to describe the roast dinner: Amazing. To be honest, I;m not a massive fan of the roast dinner in general, this may have converted me! We had a takeaway mixed meat roast dinner with for two. Ready to pick up on time, piping hot and pretty much every vegetable side accompaniment you can imagine plus the best Yorkshire puddings and a very generous serving of gravy. Will definitely be back for more.

Went here for a brunch. Friendly welcome on arrival and this was the theme throughout. I enjoyed the Mushroom Forestiere, lovely fresh flavours and a generous portion for the price. Great local coffee. Cute little garden which when weather is warmer will be a great place to enjoy the sun. The menu is comprehensive with something to suit everyone. Places like this deserve to do well and we should all get behind them in these odd times.

Eaten here quite a few times now and always experienced fantastic service and brilliant food. Brought my friend for her first ever visit at the weekend sat in the rear garden which was lovely and peaceful away from busy street noise. Both ordered from the brunch menu which offers fantastic value with super fresh and tasty ingredients used. I enjoyed the Portuguese hash which is packed full of flavour and a very generous sized portion. We spotted a group opposite with the afternoon tea which looked fab, everything homemade and will be returning soon for this. If you are looking for a great independent that uses fresh ingredients with good choice on menu you will not be disappointed. Coffee excellent and supplied by strangers. Always book ahead

It was our first meal out since lockdown was eased and it was excellent. We were sat in the courtyard at the back which was really pleasant. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We both had the allotment brunch which was really nice, especially the vegetarian sausages. The table next to us had the BSK burgers which looked amazing too and made me regret my decision to become a vegatarian! I would definitely recommend - we will be back soon!

Treated my mum to a Sunday roast as she isn't going out at the minute but didn'twant to cook for a change and to quote her it made her week , didn't know what to expect but was great and we both really enjoyed our roast, ordering and pick up was all very easy and the food was brilliant will definitely be back again .

Needing a treat in Lockdown, we decided to book 2 takeaways with our favourite cafe. First order was from the ‘sharing meals for two’, opting for the Slow cooked Lamb kleftico and dauphinois potatoes with Veg. The other was for a Sunday lunch.However, instead of collecting and taking away to reheat and eat at home, we asked if on both occasions, our meals could be plated up, and we would eat them then and there, outside, parked up in our campervan! A cheeky request to a busy establishment, but they couldn’t have been more obliging and helpful, and did this for us, bringing the food out to the van door. As always, it was superb, plentiful and delicious.Many other establishments could learn from this place - Great food, good prices and fantastic customer service, even in the strange times we are living in!Needless to say, we will return again soon, thank you very much BSK!

The food here is amazing, the scotch eggs, sausage rolls and cakes are all equally great and id recommend them all. A must visit cafe.

You won’t be disappointedBob and I have just had the most amazing cook at home lamb shank dinner from BSK. The lamb was melt in the mouth tender and the dauphinois potato utterly divine. How do they do it? And even more- Lionel now has two delicious bones to gnaw.

I went to the Ber Street Kitchen today with a friend for afternoon tea. It was absolutely amazing. I am quite the expert on afternoon tea, having sampled it in almost all the local establishments offering it. This is the best I have ever had. The choice and quantity of food supplied was amazing and the service was perfect. I would recommend afternoon tea here to everyone and at £15 per head, it was an absolute bargain.

Tontamente pedí la comida equivocada y me la iba a comer, ¡pero cambiaron mi orden a la que quería e incluso la hicieron más particular para mi gusto exigente!Excelente servicio.Pero lo que realmente lo hizo increíble fue que la comida era increíblemente deliciosa, buenas raciones y excelentes precios.Sinceramente, volvería a ir!¡Más allá de 5 estrellas!

This place is so good we’ve been for breakfast, lunch, Sunday lunch and back again this Sunday for another wonderful roast. Fresh top quality ingredients served by friendly welcoming staff .. you can’t go wrong!!

Esta fue mi primera visita a la ciudad desde el cierre, una de las pocas comidas fuera y no me decepcionó. El desayuno era absolutamente delicioso, con mucha variedad y raciones enormes. La camarera fue muy amable y servicial, con un gran sentido del humor. Nos sentimos cómodos con el cumplimiento de los requisitos de COVID.

Go for breakfast! You won’t be disappointed! Great food and lovely atmosphere. We are a family of four- two adults and two children ( 5 and 7) and all enjoyed our meals.

La comida siempre es buena aquí. Pero lo que es decepcionante es que este es otro establecimiento de alimentos que no está haciendo lo suficiente en términos de garantizar que sus clientes sientan que está tomando suficientes medidas para mantener la seguridad de Covid. Los camareros / manipuladores de alimentos no se cubren la cara. Los cubiertos nos fueron entregados de una mesa que acaba de quedar libre (no pueden estar seguros de que los clientes anteriores no hayan manipulado los cubiertos). Me entregaron mi bebida, los meseros entregan la parte superior de la botella y la tapa, lo mismo con mi vaso. Esto deja al lado de lo que es un pequeño gran café con buena comida.En estos tiempos la higiene y las medidas extra visibles son vitales.

La primera vez que fui a Ber Street Kitchen hace un par de semanas para desayunar. Era brillante. El servicio fue de primera categoría por parte de la señora que trabajaba esa mañana (sábado 4 de septiembre), la comida estaba muy rica y estaban completamente seguros para Covid. Volvería totalmente y lo recomendaría!
