Wow just wow never experienced anything like this. The barmaid was so unprofessional speaking how customers did her head in and how she wanted them to leave cause they asked to much of her when they asked for mayo and ice in their drink My food was just left on bar for me to pick up not served to me. On half hour wait for my food to be cleared the barmaid was then rude as hell. Not a happy customer. She was too busy flirting and chatting a man to be concerned with her customers.

The pub has very recently reopened and we went in for Sunday lunch. The decor has been given a cohesive makeover and now has a very comfortable feel. The clutter of ice cream freezers and bar islands have been removed so there’s more space for additional tables but nothing is crammed in. The whole experience was lovely and relaxed. The food was great too, big portions, well cooked. . Will definitely be back to try more of the menu and I highly recommend. They are also very child friendly.

This was a very welcoming pub as soon as we turned up the bar person was happy the waiters was happy and pleasant it was a bit of wait on food at one point thought we had been forgotten the food we had was a lamb sunday dinner which was very nice loads of tables outside where we sat some dogs chatting back and forth but was a nice setup little play area for the small ones and a good sized car park around the back of the pub.

On the website it states most of the menu can be made gluten free,, see picture below, when I asked, I was told the only option was jacket potato. Not impressed. The rest of the part had the burger and all day breakfast which they said was good. The side salad was fresh and tasty. The capacino coffee had lumps of dried milk in it.

Booked for a nice Father's Day family lunch. Turned up on time to be told that there was an hour's wait for food despite the booking. With a 3 year old in tow that wasn't happening and the day was ruined. Emailed and asked for an explanation but that was ignored.

I was very disappointed with the meal that I had. The menu states hand coated beer battered cod served with triple cooked potato scallop chips and real ale scented mushy peas. What I actually got was a small piece of shop packet fish, French fries and garden peas. The all day breakfast my wife had was also missing the hash browns. I’m local and was looking to find a nice local pub. But I must say my expectations did not match what I got and certainly didn’t warrant the £70+ I spent. I also emailed to voice my disappointment and didn’t receive a reply.

Sunday Lunch. I was very hopeful on going back to The Bell after a couple of years absence however I am Heartily disappointed. I chose it deliberately for being a dog friendly pub. And indeed my friends dog behaved beautifully and was no trouble. However the service and food were really very bad. The young lad tried his best, the girl at the till was rude, dismissive and had no clue how to communicate with customers. The food was not good, but eatable, however the Cauliflower cheese was simply dreadful...I don't know how anyone is brave enough to put it out. We did not elect to have a dessert, and by the looks of a couple who did we made the correct decision. Trying to pay the bill was a disaster. I was treated very badly. They clearly had problems but had no customer service skills to know how to handle the situation and there appeared to be no responsible adult running the place. I think by having the bouncy castle, car wash, being dog friendly and having a community hub they are trying but they need some serious training, a replacement chef and clear management to star to get it right. Less is sometimes more!! I will not be going back.

Nice setting, very clean and friendly staff. A very decent pint of Wye Valley beer. The menu was limited, which is not a bad thing, but then you would expect what there was to be good! Mine was fine but my wife's plate was just terrible. Over cooked fish and undercooked, tasteless, noodles. She left most of it, just inedible. I complained to the staff who just sort of shrugged. Not even a 'sorry you didnt enjoy your meal' Another one off the list as far as food is concerned.

We had a very nice Mother's Day meal and afternoon here over the weekend. The roasts were lovely and the team were pretty swift to get things we asked for - well done and they were quite a young bunch. The manager/landlord kindly lent the kids a pack of cards and that kept them quiet whilst we waited, which wasn't too long on a very busy day. The desserts were plentiful and I can vouch that the crumble was delicious.

The vegan Sunday roast was very underwhelming, quite basic and lacking much flavour (basically it was pastry stuffed with beetroot and a slice of melted cheese with potatoes and side steamed carrots, green beans and white cabbage). However, the most ridiculous dish is the vegan apple crumble dessert, it was whipped cream, cooked fruit, and raw oats poured on top (see pic). Dessert you wouldn't serve in your own house. There's a very long way to go to bring the vegan food and options to the standards of the non vegan food especially when same price paid (£17!) and we all know beef is not cheaper than beetroot. Nice working crew despite unexperienced (their first day). The place is cosy and beautiful in a sunny day

The Bell was a great meeting place for Sunday lunch for friends coming from Malvern/ Bristol/ the Cotswolds. We really enjoyed the roast dinners, generous portions with lots of extra fresh veg. Then crumble and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, all seemed freshly home made and not ‘bought in’ . Excellent cappuccinos. Our young waiter and waitress were very helpful and attentive. We sat in the conservatory with lovely views across the fields, the restaurant has atmosphere but was not too noisy or cramped. Would definitely return.

We visited on a weekday evening. One of our party was gluten free and there was nothing they could be provided to eat (out of stock/unavailable menu items etc). Staff need training - one asked if the gluten free was ‘intolerance or allergy’. That is a massive warning bell. But to top it off the person with a good intolerance was invited to check in the kitchen to see if there was anything they could eat! Needless to say, we left after eating nothing and went to a nearby pub/restaurant and was served a variety of suitable food and very safely.

Nice pub, very friendly staff, good selection of beer. I'd never order food in this place again. We all know the times are hard and general costs go up. But you cannot charge £13 for a portion of curry consisting of half a can of chickpeas, cheap store-bought sauce, soggy poppadom and microwaved rice. Not a single piece of vegetable in my curry. The worst pub food I've ever had. I really like to support the local and independent but I think there is a limit. I'd definitely go back for drinks but not food.

Finally got around to trying this out under the new management and wondering why this has not had more good reviews. Our experience was excellent. The menu is clearly still developing, but vegetarian choices in particular are creative and excellent with good portion sizes, so well worth a try whether or not you are a confirmed V, and ice creams are to die for. Also run various regular events (Quiz, steak and curry nights). Will definitely be visiting again.

Dreadful menu especially considering the glamouress photos on their website. A choice of a burger or sausage and mash is literally all there is. This place could be a gold mine but it’s new ownership clearly hasn’t a clue. Update. New menu available shortly after. Menu looks good but prices will put a lot of past and future customers off. £18.50 for a burger, £1.50 more expensive than the Ivy! Ate there at the weekend, a special which was chicken and pesto pasta, chicken was nicely cooked but the pasta was very overcooked and the sauce a little bland: my friends bagel was good apparently. Work to be done.

Dropped in last weekend as local, considered eating but basic pub and menu. Had couple of drinks fine in garden. Noticed tonight the new menu… prices seem very high far the basic pub food on offer in the area/pub itself. More expensive than other seemingly higher end food places around, so unlikely to eat here. Sure tenants/owners will consider as they move forwards and will adjust if needed.

Visited a few weeks ago for a meal. Waited over an hour before we even got our starters, other customers came and ate and left before we got served. Finally got told they were a chef down but not really a good enough excuse as they shouldn't have taken so many tables if they couldn't cope. My chicken bake pie thing was I'm sure made using sandwich chicken meat, the lettuce on all the salads was chopped up and left in a ball without separating any of the leaves, my grandmothers salmon was overdone and the prawns were like leather. Waited a very long time for all the food for it to be below average. Would've left for another pub was it not that we were on a time crunch

Having emailed The Bell with feedback and given the opportunity to remedy, they have chosen not to provide any customer service by acknowledging or responding. I feel I have no other choice but to warn others to chose an alternative establishment - there are plenty of pubs, restaurants, cafe's in Cheltenham and surrounding suburbs. I hope while saddening to scribe, people find this review helpful when selecting a pub to dine at, in Cheltenham :(
