Will never go back to this Pub. The toilets were a mess. The owner was rude and unhelpful, and the staff were and not very friendly swept off the feet. Compare to the other pubs in Portobello, this one is ranked at the bottom.

Shocked to see conspiracy theory nonsense displayed in the window. The pub is not great anyway, but this is unacceptable

Bar clean enough Drinks/prices were reasonable/staff friendly Visited twice in different months Ladies toilets were a let down/put off! Although appeared clean enough with soaps, sanitizer, towels etc toilet seats were neither on nor off and could have caused someone a bad experience/accident. Seats were of cheap material and damaged to the effect it made the toilets look very unclean. Very off putting to anyone having to use them!! Therefore off putting on any return visits to the establishment.

Doesn't look too great from outside, but nice enough decor. Clean, and quick service, always a plus with kids! Went in for lunch with and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fish and chips was excellent, and the kids loved the mac cheese, and burger. Will go back.

The Beaten Docket is in the middle of Portobello on the High Street and can't be missed, as it is opposite Bath Lane and Greggs that leads on to the promenade and beach. The tenants have a 15 year lease on this pub, which is owned by a gentleman from Belfast who is keen on horse racing and this is evidenced by various pictures around the pub. I believe that he owns race horses and the pub is named after so many lost bets (beaten dockets!). The menu has the usual favourites on it and I opted for a 6oz steak cheese burger with chips, salad and salsa at £5.95 which didn't disappoint. The chips are cut with the skins on, were very good and complimented the burger which hit the spot. It's a friendly, clean, well maintained pub that is popular with locals and it deserves to be ranked higher than it is on Tripadvisor. I would recommend it to anyone and would happily visit again.

Passed this pub often on the way to the beach/promenade etc but this was the first time we ventured in. Went in for Sunday Lunch and were impressed by the helpful and attentive staff looking after their various customers. Food was good too, nothing fancy just good honest plain fare........

Had an extremely tasty lunch today .Starters were haggis fritters in peppercorn sauce and a bruschetta. Followed by tasty , hot chicken curry. Great value and super service , attentive and fast. Lovely to se a pub selling such good quality food. Was impressed to see a couple of single ladies quite happily sitting having a quiet drink on their own. A shelf of books was there if you fancied a bit of a read with your meal. Not been before but heard good things and will so be back ! Thank you and see you soon.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

We approached the café at 9am with laundry and were greeted by four Scottish Terriers who were apparently running the place, until Graham arrived up the stairs to ask what the heck we wanted...and we knew immediately we were in the right place! I've read some of the reviews, and if you don't understand Graham in the first 5 seconds of him opening his mouth, you don't deserve to be there...and I am pretty sure Graham will know/sense it himself. I think he relishes poor reviews. But we felt immediately at home, and once we passed the "test", Graham was the perfect host. I had to put up with insults on my lack of fashion sense and some uncomfortable history lessons regarding the villainy of George Washington, but my wife and I would not trade our experience for anything! Graham practically did our laundry for us, made us coffee, and even gave me a lovely (empty) can of haggis. Thank you for the experience Graham! I hope you enjoy the US Dollar Bill (with Washington on it)...and I won't forget that American history is really Scottish history!

Booked in the restaurant for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We weren’t staying at the hotel but did add that we were celebrating upon booking. We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.
