Beautiful food, generous portions and all very reasonably priced. The service was absolutely great too. Lovely homely feel to the place, cosy and friendly. Great place for a family meal (we went for my mother's birthday) we had a party of 12 plus a toddler and everyone enjoyed. Will definitely come back again - I'd come back for the amazing homemade chips alone!

We had the best welcome at The Bear for our friend's birthday lunch. Nothing was too much trouble and the are good gluten free options. Prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous. We were waited on so well, our waiter/ barman was brilliant and provided us with everything we needed and more. We will be returning. Thankyou

The food here was very average. The 'pie' is a pastry case filled with stew with a pre baked puff pastry topper so you didn't get that nice gooey pastry. One person opted for the Mezze plater to try and be a bit healthier and almost eveything on it was deep fried (including the bread!!) or out of a jar. Falafels were incredibly dry. Roast dinner however wasn't bad.

We arrived half way through an England v Wales Rugby game, the pub had a great atmosphere full of locals and a separate dining area for our booked table. We came up on Sunday for lunch. My family live in Llantrisant and had heard good things. I had travelled down from Guildford. The pub setting is lovely. It’s old and just how I like it. Old, but clean and welcoming. 200 years old I believe? It was my cousins 40th birthday and we chose to come here. We were welcomed in and shown to our table. At the time the pub was not too busy but it got busy later on and that is always a good indication. We were able to order drinks at the bar and then went to the carvery. A good selection of meat. Gammon, pork, Turkey, rare and well done beef. I had the well done beef. It was absolutely gorgeous. Also opted for some pork. Vegetables were served to us on the table. Absolutely no complaints at all. If I could have eaten the roast twice over I would have done. Everything was perfect. And then on to dessert. Hard hard choice. I went with key lime pie as it’s quite hard to find in the UK. I have already said to my family that we need to go back just for pie. It’s just like they make it in Florida. Absolutely beautiful. Not too overpowering with lime but flavoursome. Everyone left happy and full. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and as I have said earlier, an indication of how good somewhere is is how busy it is and this place was full. Thank you for having us. I will be back even if it is for a slice of pie

Very generous portions and the garlic mushrooms were to die for. Only downside was the lack of gravy with the main course but this was soon rectified when more was requested. Probably one of the best dinners we have had for a long time, was very busy which is to be expected when an establishment is making food like this, wonderful service from the barmaid who even though she was busy nothing was too much trouble, the friendly chef serving the Carvery, and the waitresses were lovely too! Excellent meat portions and superb gravy, desserts outstanding, the only tiny negative and this is nit picking is it’s a bit cramped but the food and service more than makes up for this Will certainly be returning

The Bear offers a good value Sunday carvery. A choice of 4 meats. It's really nice to be able to choose pink beef, a rarity at carveries where it's normally grey. The pudding is included in the cost, if you're too full, they'll let you take it home. It's nice to have crunchy pork crackling on offer. The roast potatoes seem deep fried which could be better. Rude and aggressive owner Colin towards me in front of my 14 year old daughter, my partner and a bar full of customers. I popped in to speak to him to arrange a cancer charity night after it had been previously arranged by my brother with Colin the owner. I also had messaged the pubs Facebook page thinking I was talking with the owners a few days previously and was given the times they were open on the Saturday and Sunday to pop in to speak to them. Ordered drinks and asked to speak to Colin as had been arranged. Bar staff said he was in the kitchen and they would get him. When he came out he treated me unbelievably rudely and disrespectfully. He told me we were in the wrong pub, that it was another local pub we had arranged it with. He was looking at his bar staff for answers as I told him I'd been messaging someone from there yesterday. He insinuated I am a liar telling me they know nothing about it, someone's on a windup and the pub isn't even on Facebook. Then proceeded to aggressively say to me "What's my name then? What's my name?!" Then he walked away back the way he came. Disgusting unprofessional attitude from this business. Beware if you go to this pub politely asking if it's ok to speak to them about a charity night or if they are too busy. The response I got was disgusting.

There is an array of roasties, parsnip crisps, stuffing and other accomplements. You can have as much gravy as you wish with little individual pots to take back to the table. The piping hot veg is on the table when you return from the carvery. Drinks are really reasonable and the choice of 10 + deserts is unbelievable. Very cozy pub particularly when the fire is on. I know from previous visits that the steaks are great including the peppercorn sauce. Colin is a great guy who works very hard to maintain the high standards. The waitress's were very friendly too. What a Sunday lunch, just as good as a home cooked roast, and probably a bit better, especially the meat! There was rare beef, well done beef, pork, and turkey. Portions were generous, the rare beef was to die for and cut thick enough (but I'm sure could be cut to your liking). You go to the carvery area for your meat, yorkshire, roasties, potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing, gravy, sauces and pork crackling. You can even take a jug of the lovely home made gravy back to the table. Veg is brought to the table in hot metal covered dishes. Today there were sprouts, carrots, peas and cabbage, all cooked nicely, and there's more than you can eat. There were around 10 dessert options to choose from, including crumble and custard, trifle, ice cream, and cheesecake. One of our party couldn't manage dessert so the staff kindly offered to put one in a container to take away!! Overall this was a lovely Sunday roast, you can put as little or as much as you want on your plate, drinks were very reasonable, and at under £10 for two courses, it's the best Sunday lunch I've had out for a long time. We'll definitely be back.

I don't like giving bad reviews, but sometimes it's the only way management can rectify any problems which are experienced by customers. My rating of ** (poor) is not for the food - the Sunday lunch is thoroughly recommended as we experienced this on a previous visit - hence our booking for today (Sunday 5th March). In fairness the staff are friendly but it can get extremely busy on Sundays! We had made a booking for 2.30pm but the table was not ready so we waited for a table to become available. Other customers were in the same boat and once tables become available, they were shown to them. However, people who had tables reserved for times after ours were shown to them, and I had to twice remind staff we were still waiting. We decided enough was enough and was about to leave when we were shown to a table and decided to queue at the carvery. It was jam packed with people queuing , so that was the final straw for us so we went home hungry and prepared our own Sunday evening meal. It's a shame because the food here is good but it has put us off from ever returning back.

2nd time weve been here for Sunday Lunch and impressed again by the food and service. Its a really busy place but all the staff/girls were friendly and helpful considering the amount of pressure they were under.Sunday Lunch is a carvery and although the food isnt refined - its tasty wholesome stuff with a choice of 5 or 6 meats, roasties etc and the veg which came directly to the table was pipping hot!!A choice of puddings are available - I had the chololate orange cake with cream which was to die for.All washed down with a pint of guiness - Lovely. The bear itself has an old pub type feeling which we found very pleasant and I guess it wont suit all tastes as its a far cry from the beafeaters and harvesters but a great alternative and fantastic service and value.AND all that food and pudding for under a tenner! I nearly fell off my chair. We will definitly be going back. Thank you.

Went for a sunday lunch after reading excellent reviews!! Once entering the premises there was a total mix up with the seating arrangement, I ordered a latte but was brought a black coffee.!!! We were not told it was a sort of carvery. Once we had stood waiting by the counter which was actually the door to the lounge for over 10 mins we finally got served with over cooked roasts, undercooked parsnips and cold stuffing, we then return to our table to find our vegetables were on the table in a little turin, there was hardly enough for one alone two. We spoke to the waitressess explaining our food was cold which she replied she would rectify this, when it was returned a few minutes later it was still cold!!!! The couple on the next table agreed that theirs was the same. The afters were included in the price so we decided to have home made apple crumble and custard which was not only cold but also burnt. I just could not believe this. The gentleman on the next table ordered a sweet with custard, when asked would he like it warm or cold he replied i would like it warmer than my dinner was. It came back cold which beggared belief. If you are thinking of going there i would truly think again.

Nous avons mangé 2 fois dans ce sympathique pub et avons les deux fois apprécié la bonne humeur et l'ambiance très agréable. Le patron-cuisinier est aux petits oignons pour ses clients et le choix de plats est varié.

Enjoyed good service from friendly staff who were very helpful. The food was delicious and reasonably priced in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Unusual pub grub menu which was a delight as it included traditional casual dining plus some extra treats. It's a busy pub grub kind of venue but the food raises the game somewhat.

A choice of meats in ample supply and freshly cooked choice of vegetables. As much pork crackling as you can bear and the usual desserts, also in ample portions. I enjoyed it so much, I can't wait to go back.

Lovely little pub / eatery... dogs welcome in the bar area, nice big comfy sofas, huge fireplace which I bet looks and feels lovely in the cold winter months, staff lovely and pleasant.. went with a friend for a quiet meal, the finish cooking at 9pm and we were a little late but the chef still cooked for us which I thought was really nice of them, I had the Rump cooked to medium and it was perfectly cooked, lovely home made chips, very tasty , I will definitely be going here again

Love this place. Friendly little village pub with loads of character. Whether it's out straight from work with friends for food and a pint, a Saturday session to watch the rugby, live music on the weekends or Sunday dinner with the family this place is hard to beat.As far as Sunday dinner is concerned, Colin's mustardy ham, rare beef, secret recipe gravy and chocolate orange sponge cake are the highlights and the crackling is the best I've ever had.Try one of the Glamorgan ales brewed just the other side of the common. "Cwrw Gorslas" mmmm! There's a real fire for the winter and a beer garden for the summer, the pub's got it all.Really excellent value, phone ahead because space is limited.

Great value food, Carvery was delicious, but the gravy was spicy and wasn't labeled which my girlfriend didn't like and had poured it all over food which was a shame.

This is our number one choice for Sunday dinner. The carvery is excellent, always cooked to perfection and diners are served with a side dish of freshly cooked veg. The two course dinner, including desserts is less than tenner. Local (very) beers are available and the staff are lovely.

My comments are limited to the two times I've used this local gem. On both occasions I went here it was a Thursday, I believe, and the whole pub was all mine. Service was polite and friendly from the attractive young lady who served me. The pints were superb, me being a real ale fanatic. A real pub atmosphere is a great plus. The food - First time I had the large gammon, and made the mistake of ordering garlic bread. Second time I tried the home made pie, and made the mistake of ordering chips. Both times I struggled to walk out, because I didn't want to leave a morsel. The food was amazing to say the least. And very, very generous portions. So now, I'm planning a day off my schedule to go back and stuff myself to the limit again. Excellent memory of fantastic pub food. See you soon, Bear Inn, I promise.

Me and the rest of my family have been going to the beat for years and we are still fascinated by how good the food is. I'm not a big fan of the menu but I have only ever eat on the actual menu once the rest of the time we only went on Sunday's. If you live near the llantrisant area please come here!

Eaten in here a few times over the years although not for a few years now. Seems to have gone down a bit in the meantime although to be fair it was exceptional previously. Now more your typical pub grub. Staff are excellent, very helpful, friendly and cheery. Musical entertainment for the night was excellent. I agree with the previous reviews mentioning the access past the bar - not the best and find we comment on it every time so it must be annoying us.

Mediocre at best...Boiled Ham was off colour, chips (whilst plentiful) were not so appetising...steak and ale pie was topped off by a pallid looking misfitting lid of frozen puff pastry? Great hosts nonetheless, and a superb real log fire...good choice of beers too. Heard the curry is good but didn't follow up...it was...dunno what to say...want to try again but maybe not...awkward, really wanted to like this place!

seems to be a feature of Llantrisant pubs that there is a always a throng around the bar - despite room enough to sit away. This is intimidating if one simply wishes to buy a drink & pay for a meal. It's a particular problem in this pub, as it's always a squeeze getting from front door to rooms where food is served. Food is fine but we found everything had a hint of mint on one occasion. Do try & get there early when our pals perform as Hot Club Gallois/Royal Scam/Mike Morgan.

Sandwiches bulked out with lettuce, tomato and cucumber, then info on the table telling customers, you have an hour at the table unless their not busy,,,more info on the table telling customers if they want the coffee and cake special , which is only on for an hour in the morning you actually only have 45 minutes so they can clear for lunch 😂. So while our sandwiches were ok at £8.50 each,we won't be returning it's not worth the journey to be watching the clock and having the threat of being asked to leave because your time's up at the table

Booked here for one night when travelling down to Cornwall. Was surprised at the lovely setting this place is at. Although we asked for a ground floor room due to my disability, we were given a first-floor room. Luckily, I managed up the stairs. It was a spacious room, with tea/coffee facilities and an ensuite bathroom. Staff were attentive, and the food was also a good standard. With a good size garden and even a dog walking field, this place was ideal for what we wanted. Breakfast the following morning was a decent size, served inside the inn. With eating outside the night before, I didn't see inside. It was a lovely old style pub inside, with the same great staff as the night before. If it wasn't for the room mix up I would have gave 5 stars.
