I went with my grandparents to have a meal on a Thursday. Even though my grandfather did not have his steak pie I still enjoyed me lovely chicken with cheese and bacon on it. The atmosphere could do with some changing and also the layout of the building. All in all I would still highly recommend that you are to come here!

Had lunch here on Sunday with family. There were 10 of us. The food and service were both excellent. Spoke to the chef as we really liked his broccoli & leek cheese side dish and his Cornish roast potatoes.

My wife and myself go out most sundays for sunday lunch , we tend to find somewhere we like and it becomes a sort of regular weekly vist but we decided we would try somewhere new for a change and picked here . Pub is olde world cottage feel and quite cosy and friendly , seen proprietor about our booking and show out into a small side room which felt and looked like a country kitchen style cafe with plastic table clothes place was empty except for us . Waitress was nice and took our order both opting for roast beef. Food arrived and while there was nothing much wrong with it it was a nothing great dinner with lots of frozen veg instead of fresh frozen Yorkshire and tastless chewy beef no wonder place was empty . Will not return .

Called into The Bear today for the first time. One word - Wow! The Sunday lunch was superb, so much beef and vegetables. Even cooked some chicken nuggets for my children, who are fussy eaters. Will definitely be going back again.

My Niece tool me out for Sunday Lunch for birthday treat. We led to our table by the waitress who looked after us well but was not overly intrusive. It was Delicious we both had the beef dinners and they were just as you would hope a traditional lunch would be Roast beef, roast potatoes, parsnips peas, carrots, cabbage with a really tasty gravy and horseradish sauce. It was a substantial lunch and left us full to the brim. We had chocolate pudding and spotted dick to dessert both were really well made. The chocolate pudding was light and mmmmmmmmmagically chocolatey and the spotted dick was perfect. The latte coffee was perfection and it was a very civilised way to have lunch all for a £10 for 2 courses. The waitress and bar staff were friendly and helpful.

Have eaten here for Sunday lunch and for main menu food. Sunday lunch - oh my! Stunning! Best Sunday lunch I have tasted out. Main meals are large and a lovely variety of meals to choose from. Very reasonable prices, owner and chef are so friendly and welcoming. Stunning pub which is now our favourite and most recommended pub.

Called in for mid-week supper with the family as I couldn't be bothered to cook! Food was ok, very basic and nothing wrong with it really - very basic pub grub. I must say the fish fingers that came with the children's meal were appalling - grey and tasteless inside - could hardly see any fish inside them, horrid!! (why do so many pubs give rubbish food for our children?!) My main issue with the food was the price - many meals over £10, very expensive for the quality / how basic the meals. Don't mind paying if the food is worth it. We will definitely be making the Ivor Arms our local - much better quality food there!!

65th birthday party, booked for 7.30pm, No sign of food till 9.15pm, that was the prawn cocktail starters unfortunately had run out of tomatoes, do you want to run a tab while you wait, glad I didn't, the opposite table jokingly asked if he could borrow a razor as he had waited so long he required a shave, really bad never ever again, can onestly say the worst in all my 65yrs.

Lovely pub and atmosphere but food was not too a good standard and one meal was forgotten about. The staff seemed unaware when we required something and unfortunately we were not impressed. Quite pricey.

The Sunday Carvery was great will go there again. Plenty of home cooked food. It's in a small village with a free car park at the bottom of the hill from the pub. Prices are reasonable £33 for 3 people and two courses, it's advisable to book a table.

This isnt a 5* resturant its a nice little village pub which serves nice pub grub and a decent pint.Recently started spending more time in the area i enjoy a pint here once or twice a week and have eaten here numerous times without disappointment. Sunday lunch is good as is nornal menu, reasonably priced food and good quality.Sometimes bar service can be slow due to it getting busy but thats the only minor negative i can think of for my review

Father's Day lunch here unfortunately was a nightmare. arrived at 1.45pm for a 2pm table, shown to our table at 3pm and only after asking when we could have our table 3 times and even then only getting a table once we said we were going to leave! Staff constantly walking past us and ignoring us. No apology for the delay. Apparently people at our table who had it before us were sitting there chatting after their food and the staff didn't want to ask them to move to the bar - which when you think about it, if you are running a professional establishment, is ridiculous! We eventually had our food at 3.20pm which was sadly seriously not worth waiting for! The Yorkshire pudding was burnt, the roast potato was burnt and gravy tasteless. My son's chicken, he said, was the driest chicken he's ever had. One positive was the beef itself was nice. We had to literally cover our food with salt and pepper to make it taste better. Nobody collected our plates and nobody asked for our desert order (2 course set menu) so we just paid and left. Maybe it was because of Father's Day and they couldn't cope or had overbooked but we definitely are put off from ever going here again. The look of place is nice and it has a nice atmosphere; maybe on a normal day it's better..... we will never get to know now though, after our bad experience; not willing to take the chance.

Sunday lunch is superb, choice of roasts and plenty of veg and potatoes and gravy. Ceri is a wonderful chef and the service is great. Often pop in on a friday lunchtime for the lite bites Fish & Chips just enough for a light lunch and how does she make that batter, its fab.

Visited for lunch whilst exploring local pubs. The food was excellent and didn't come out of a freezer. The vegetarian options were great, and the pies are also a brilliant choice. Will definitely re-visit.

Always the food is good. I eat here regularly and the reason is that the standard of food is good as is the cleanliness. Also children's food is not frozen food deep fried but good fresh food(usually a little on the large side)It is a child friendly pub however! If you eat around the bar area be warned-the language from some of the clientele is quite ripe! Not for childrens ears but you can sit in the dining area out of harms way and there is a little play area out the back. It is good value for miney.

We as a family visited the bear twice in one week, the evening meal we had scampi chips and big burgers in a bun the children kiddies meals. On the following sunday it was sunday roast either lamb, beef or pork, it was delicious. The pub itself was set out olde worlde style with distressed wooden beams and a roaring log fire ( it was cold outside )the atmosphere there was great, a good selection of beers , it was a typical country pub you would take overseas visitors toand make them jealous.there is a childrens play area also.

Friendly welcome ALWAYS. Great food ALWAYS. Happy to come here for Sunday dinner all the time as we knew were not going to be disappointed .

I used to love this restaurant years ago, so persuaded my husband whilst visiting Pontypridd after living away for many years to have lunch here. An absolute disaster!! The Manager looked stressed and didn’t know where to sit us (or the couple in front of us) and eventually we were shown to the area upstairs. A number of people arrived after us, we chose to sit at one of the tables laid with a nice white tablecloth. Eventually the waitress arrived -but moved us to a bare table explaining that the table we were at was for “afternoon tea” only! We were finally asked for our order after other people had given theirs. The couple in front of us having almost the same non-existent service-then walked out. We gave our order for our first and main course together with a request for wine to accompany it. After half an hour the waitress having served other tables then finally brought our two glasses of water …and gave them to the next table! We asked if we could at least have our previously ordered glasses of wine whilst waiting…. Still Nothing arrived! We then reluctantly decided to follow our fellow diners example and leave which is what we did. Such a disappointment! We will never go there again!

This popped up so I posted a review about my feelings on the place which are valid but out of date. I used to really like your place so hope it is open again soon and back to how it was at the start.

Called here this morning for a quick coffee break whilst out walking (keeping our steps up) and just wanted to say we were served by the most lovely young man, I didn’t take his name but he was very tall with brown hair and a beard, he was really kind and so I wanted to leave a positive post for him, he deserves some recognition for being so helpful and pleasant.
