The food, staff and atmosphere was great. Took a long time to get food but there was a big rugby match at the time. Very crowded. Burger and beer were great, very nice to hang out and have a beer with friends.

If your idea of a good night out is an overrated, crowded and expensive bar serving mediocre drinks, then this is the perfect place for you! The staff have no concept 'time', they serve people based on them shouting or waving their arms directly in their face - not on you waiting patiently and trying to catch their eye. The cocktails are overly sweet and contain barely any alcohol - even during happy hour they aren't worth it. Alongside this it appears that no-one tells anyone else what's available and what has run out, leading to a general look of confusion on the servers face whatever you order: "Coffee? I don't think we serve that.......... oh I am stood by a pile of coffee beans so yes I suppose we can. You want an espresso maritini? We are out of coffee...!" The only positive of this place is that empty glasses are swiftly taken off your table..... wow what a selling point.

I went to The Bear for a friend from works birthday lunch. I had a run in with a member of staff who was very rude to me. This lead to another member of staff having to pick up the pieces and be over friendly. The pizza was AWFUL. I ordered proscuitto which turned out to be ham and the cheese was in thick chunks placed on top.

We went in with a party of 6 for lunch last Friday and the staff were friendly and the burgers were good. We looked at the cocktail menu and are considering going in for 2 for 1 happy hour next week. The only negative comment I have is that when we asked for water they came back with bottles of still water so they could charge us. OBVIOUSLY we only wanted tap water. We felt like they were trying to make as much money from us as possible because we had the Taste Card, which is little silly because... well obviously we are using the Taste Card to try and save money! Great bar and social scene.

I have always been visiting the Bear Pub for a salad to take out, but my visit today left me quite disappointed. The staff have changed and for the same price of £5 they are now not filling up the salad bowl. Sorry, but this needs to be re-considered

Great food and drink, Great service. Great music. The food was so good. I ordered a pizza and was told it had a gluten free base, which I thought would be tasteless, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. The friends I was with ordered fish and chips and the Bear burger. I've never had so much food envy in my life. Luckily I got to taste them both, and they did not disappoint. The staff are friendly, and the mix of music caters for everyone. I'll definitely be back!

Pop in for a quick Pint or cocktail - service is reasonably friendly although clientèle is generally going to smashed. Thought maybe it would be a good idea to sit down for dinner. Tried a selection of the dishes as there were several of us - each one disappointed - the best thing on the menu were the Pizzas but the bases were overcooked - although I like crispy bases so it didn't fuss me. What was more annoying the Burgers were incredibly overcooked - I would understand this if I was at a mates BBQ in the middle of July and the chef had a few too many but in a Central London Restaurant overcooked frazzled burgers are just plain unacceptable. I'm hesitant about rating this 2 stars out of 5 but for me it fails to achieve 3 stars because the music playing in the venue is just so damn bad. Commercial loud music making it impossible to hear the people at your table - So by the time you have tried to finish off the below par food and washed it down with the generic selection of beers you are keen to leave the premises just so you can hear your friends talk again.

Short and sweet review, this one. I was expecting the typical 'bar' type place so prevalent in Clerkenwell as a colleague and I stopped by for lunch on a rainy Friday. Was I wasn't expecting was a true British pub service, with tasty, filling pub meals and decent beer. Furthermore, and what prompted me to write this review - the service was exceptional. The lady behind the bar was a proper pub landlady type, who would of been as much at home in your east London local than the trendy settings of Clerkenwell. You could tell she obviously cared what both us and her other customers were experiencing at lunch, which is a rare thing to see these days. Well done, Bear Bar. I'll be back!
