the worst place I have been to we only ordered two deserts which wherent there after half an hour so went up to staff and they said it was ready and they would bring it now ,after another ten minutes it still wasn’t there so I went to get it myself and my bowl was covered in tomato sauce (I had dessert) I asked for it to be remade ,the cutlery wasn’t given to us to we went to get it ourselves where flies flew out.the brownie was rock solid and tasted burnt and the the rest was cold and the icecream had melted .

This is possible the best weatherspoons I've ever been in. The staff were so lovely, and really tried to accommodate us with the rugby match (management please replace the remote!!) The food was okay for a weatherspoons and the service was excellent. It's also a lovely looking pub. Recommended

Staff are sweating like pigs can see the sweat dripping from their forehead rolls and took 20 minutes to bring me a Pepsi max and a smoothie now my son is screaming and shouting and crying because he wanted his smoothie

We was disappointed. We both had mix grill. The peppercorn sauce pot was covered with sauce all around handle and outside the pot. Looked like we was given someone's left over sauce. The food was luke warm. Chips was even colder. The knife and fork We was given was dirty. We therefore did not enjoy our lunch.

This is a Wetherspoons so like most people I have tried food all over the UK in their various pubs but this was by a long chalk the best breakfast I have tried in any of them!

Generally clean and pleasant but some bar staff dont know their whisky from their gin and this can prove irritating when you have to almost do their job for them. Food is cheap and cheerful and despite, in some cases, being incompetent, staff are always freindly and upbeat.

Barnaby loved this…3 hot chocolates….so far!! Pancakes and full English were tasty and quick. Friendly staff and so polite and helpful.

Probably one of the nicest places to go, staff always welcoming and the food comes with no complaints. Always a place to go with family and friends.

Remembrance Sunday got the 11.10 a.m before the rush. Order was taken wrong, slow staff. Not milk nor hot chocolate. Food came kids had lovely looking scrambled, me and my partner had not scrambled eggs. No toast for kids as the server did not add the. On no mushrooms on our breakfast, the lady brought the toast outturn can make with 2 raw mushrooms 1 I could see had not been washed. Then tell me that's normal, raw mushroom ?? No tomatoes either, other people had cook mushrooms and tomatoes, just absolutely un organise. Manger was rude and stats he know how to cook mushrooms and that's normal,

I’ve never been a big fan of food at spoons. But I was told to give this one a go and I’m glad I did. This is by far the best spoons for food. Have been back quite a few times since because it’s cheap but still good food and a good menu choice. Nice atmosphere as well.

We go here for breakfast most mornings. The staff are generally helpful but it’s always a lucky dip when it comes down to the food between what you ordered and what you get, what you paid yesterday, today and tomorrow who knows. The manageress is the only thing that is constant. Constantly rude to staff in front of customers. Constantly rude to customers. If you complain the consistent reply is : if you don’t like it then don’t come here. If you don’t like my answer, don’t come here. This used to be a place to go for good food, atmosphere and drinks. Now most people go there just to support the staff.

I ordered a meal at this venue while waiting for a bus . I was i had a clear view of the open kitchen and seen that all the large table orders were being served first and my solo order was left till last . When I actually got my order an item was missing , the waitress was going to return my meal to the kitchen but.i didn't have time to wait because of my bus link , I requested a full refund which I was told would be issued . On seeing my bank statement the next day I noticed that the order was not fully refunded. Only 75 % was actually refunded . Be very wary of this pub they certainly can't be trusted to give you what you ordered or charge you the correct amount.

Arranged to meet granddaughter for breakfast, today. Notice on door saying no food today!! What is going on? We went 2 weeks ago and sign on door sorry no hot drinks due to technical fault.

Nice pub with excellent noisy outside area outside. Inside is freezing cold in the evenings bring a blanket for the air conditioning!. Don't sit anywhere near the glass crockery area late as you will be bombarded with smashing bottles and general noise from the" clearing up area".

Went for Katsu curry. Food was cold and tasteless. Shan’t make same mistake again!! The Bear is very variable with some meals good and some terrible. Going there is a real lottery

We had a meal here following a visit to Longleat. The bar staff and waitresses were very friendly and helpful. We could not fault the food or drink, and the prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately we had just missed the 2pm to 5pm afternoon deal, but even so the cost was inexpensive. We would recommend this venue.

Cod & chips, mushing peas with sides of bread and butter and curry sauce and refillable tea or coffee. For the price I couldn’t believe how good the quality of the food was. All for less than a tenner! Couldn’t fault it! I’ve paid twice as much for worse food and service in other places before now. Keep up the good work The Bear in Melksham.

Toilets out of order and Scott behind the bar no please no thank you and no personally it's a really nice spoons it's a pity the staff has let it down

My boyfriend and I came to the pub for a meal recently and considering we were one of the very few customers there, our meal was missing several items (extras) which we paid for. I asked the server for them, politely and she proceeded to walk behind us to the kitchen to get them. Yet from where we were sitting we could overhear her complaining rather loudly and making fun at myself and my boyfriend to the kitchen staff across the gantry. The member of staff on the other side also joined in and they were watching us while they did this. Afterwards the server didn't do a check back to see if everything was ok rather she continued to make obnoxious comments as she passed. Now, I work in the food industry myself, as does my boyfriend, and so we do understand sometimes staff can let off steam by making jokes with each other (yes sometimes about difficult customers) that being said it's unacceptable to do behaviour like this in front of the customers themselves. We tried our best not to be too 'difficult' but at the same time we paid for the food so it's not too hard to expect us to receive it... Despite all this, the food was actually really good, unfortunately the staff let themselves down by behaving in a hostile way to its customers.

Called in with my wife for the first visit and happily suprised with the swift service and friendly staff. Decent prices for both food and drinks and one of the better Weatherspoons we have visited. Called in again the next day with Ex - Army mates and sat in the beer garden for a couple of hours - everyone really enjoyed the place.

Quite a good Wetherspoons but still the worst bacon butty in history. Undercooked bacon on limp white bread. Tried it years ago a d gave up. Tried again this week and no change. Bet the management never had or they'd get a grip and do something.

Weatherspoons bars by nature are poor, this certainly no exception to the rule. Even more souless than your usual 'spoons' but with even worse service, cleanliness, staff. Must surely only still be open because the other pubs in Melksham are worse.

We visited here as a family of four, we were staying near by in Devizes and having ate at a Wetherspoon the night before and being really impressed we decided to eat here..... I wish we hadn’t bothered. The seating area outside was busy but inside was really quiet. We found a table, the floor was filthy around us as was the table. A manager cleaned the one next to us so I asked for our table to be wiped which she did. We ordered our food via the app we had downloaded the night before. The drinks arrived quickly as did the food. The food was awful - I had the same thing I ordered the night before and it was nothing like what I had. It was warm at best and really disappointing. My partner and sons all had pizzas, they were all undercooked. The bottom was just dough you could stretch it, it was that undercooked. We asked for them to be replaced (the young lad we asked WOW absolutely no customer service) just threw them in the bin and walked off..... new pizzas did arrive, same again undercooked and absolutely smothered in stringy cheese. My youngest son took one bite and chocked on the cheese. My partner asked to speak to the manager and we asked for a refund (non of the food had been eaten) she did refund the pizzas however there was no apology or even common courtesy. Definitely will not be visiting here again!!

well we thought we'd take advantage of the 50% off, and take recently widowed stepmum out. rang and asked a table to be reserved. 'no problem' was told. we arrived at said time, no table, luckily a table came free so we were pointed to it. member of staff then promptly told us how busy they were and had no staff and hadn't had a day off for nearly 3 weeks.first Argument at 18:00, (Tuesday evening)lots of shouting and swearing and embarrassed apologies to the stepmum. oh lord, ran out of chips, everything with mash or jkt potato, fair enough, then ran out of 6x, then at 18:30 ish fight no2, I say fight it was just more shouting and swearing and very unseemly. i know this is spoons, but family meal at 18:00, come on!! wee ate and left, enough was enough....

This spoons is a very good! Especially compared to a lot of others in the area such as Devizes and Trowbridge. The inside is very family oriented and the outside area is huge and very well decorated. There is a strong nightlife atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. Pints and grub as expected for a spoons!

The burguer bun was dry and super old.... The food came in 4 minutes, so it has been clearly microwaved, chicken though, beef Rock tough with no salt and pepper. I visited on Tuesday 25 February eveningManagement please do a favour to this pub, sack the chef!! Now!!!! I am saying that because I am a chef as well, so I know how it works in kitchens. Disgusting food!!!!!!

Food was decent. But ordered a Gin Fizz on the app and it wasn't one when it came. Went up to the bar and a man who was possibly the manger made me another one which was also not a gin fizz. I pointed it out on the menue what it should be and he dismissed me. Clearly he doesn't know his own menue. Gave up at that point. Not the normal Weatherspoon customer survive I have come to know.

I love wetherspoons .but moving from melton Mowbray to here what a shock. Food and beer rubbish . What's gone wrong. Asked why so cold said its on timer. Every one in coats. No manager t to talk to. One staff when busy . Sorry but this is slave labour will find some way else same. Also toiltets are a Graceg. Avoid drugs

Popped in for a quick coffee while waiting for the bus. Friendly member of staff served me. Nice clean place which was is quite well lit for a Wetherspoons, normally a head torch or light from the iPhone is needed,why are they always dark inside?Gents loos could have had a better clean and soap top up but generally nice place.The man sat on a table opposite me had to send his meal back as it was not hot,bit surprising as not many people were eating so it should have been hot straight from the kitchen.Spoons known for cold plates warm food on occasions.Still love Spoons VFM.

I go to the Melksham Wetherspoons pretty much every Sunday morning and you know what you’re getting with Wetherspoons so although never amazing there’s never been reason to complain until recently. We order a vegan brunch that on the menu stated two sausages. It came with one. Not a big problem (or so I thought). I mentioned to a lad passing by if he could just check with the kitchen as I thought there should be two sausages. What happened after literally got my blood boiling. He never came back to us and then as we were getting ready to leave he came back to clear the table. I asked him about the sausage and he said he’d checked with kitchen and it was one sausage. I got the menu and politely pointed out the menu stated two so perhaps they would like to look at that and maybe change if that was the case. He just shrugged his shoulders and said the spec says one so.....(trailing off) I said I wondered what the trade description act would have to say about that and he replied I can go and get you the spec if you don’t believe me. What do you want me to do about it. I was so dumbstruck I went home and wrote to them detailing my visit. Nobody came back to me so in my head I gave them 2 weeks to get back to me before I put on here at how awful their customer service is. Absolutely disgraceful - not what it used to be and I can see other restaurant groups overtaking them soon

The only great thing in here recently is the staff, the new ones are learning baby steps but the long term ones especially the young blonde "manager" i believe With tattoos is great.

We ordering using the Wetherspoon app which was easy and the drinks and food arrived very quickly.The pub was clean and there were plenty of toilets upstairs which were also very clean. There was a lot of choice on the menu and the food was tasty, well presented and arrived hot.My only “disappointment” was that we weren’t brought any salt and that they don’t do coleslaw,which every other Wetherspoon I have visited does, however it obviously wasn’t the end of the world! Great pub grub at a reasonable price, we will return next time we are in the area.

Went with partner for a steak.Love this place for food. As usual good quality, perfectly cooked, hot and excellent value. Garden a bit untidy with a lot of litter around but very few staff for a Saturday evening. Lots of people and families having food poor staff running around trying to serve drinks, serve food, clear up bar and tables. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for food if it meant more staff.

Working away has its downside however when there are six of you looking for a good night out for a reasonable price you can’t beat a Weatherspoon pub.

The pizzas are great and really good value for money. I would highly recommend them. You can order them with a drink included. It was quiet when we visited and the food and drinks were prompt. We used the app to order.

To many people Wetherspoons is the pub equivalent of Aldi, a cheap 'n' cheerful chain for the masses. Sure, the toilets and table tops aren't always cleaned as regularly as you might like. Sure, the staff are young and not always knowledgeable or helpful. I definitely wouldn't drink here in the evening - it's not my crowd. However, you simply cannot deny the merits of the breakfasts. It speaks volumes that when I visited the Melksham Wetherspoons (housed in an attractive old pub) at 10am on a weekday, both inside and outside was packed with people breakfasting, while the more expensive and upmarket cafes elsewhere were empty. Between two of us we polished off three breakfasts and unlimited coffees for under £15. The poached eggs were obviously not done individually by hand but guess what? They were nice and runny in the middle. The hollandaise had split and was a little too cool but had a nice flavour. The 'maple syrup' with the pancakes was not pure maple syrup but at under £2 with some fresh blueberries, who cares? The garden was full of flowers (and wasps!). It was a sunny morning. I enjoyed myself immensely and will definitely go again to try the Miners Benedict ( poached eggs, hollandaise and black pudding - yum!) The menu is broad and caters to all tastes, and the prices definitely cater to all wallets. Wetherspoons does what it says on the tin.

The tables were never cleared all day but when we went to the loo they cleared everything including our drinks

I absolutely loved my recent visit to spoons. A few pints of carling went down a treat along with my English fish and chips. Brexit does truly mean Brexit. Staff were really friendly, especially the barman whose name was Kyle I believe who went out of his way to give me an outstanding experience with the most nicely poured Carlings I've ever had.

Great food, good value for money for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks. Comes highly recommended. Visit here at least once a week. Curry night is a good night to visit and the fish and chips on a Friday is very good. Also an outside area to sit. Its a shame this place is not dog friendly as we will probably visit more.

Attitude of bar staff was disgraceful, got told we were talking too loud and told that if we continued we would be kicked out.

visited on friday evening. we sat on a table and we ordered some food. we sat at a dirty table( there were used plates, dirty cutlerings and 5-6 dirty glasses). we thought that someone was going to clean it when the food arrived. after about 15 minutes came a weitress (young and skinny) with our food, she put the food on the filthyest table of the pub, she saw that the table was full of dirty plates from the previous customers, and she just left saying... ENJOY YOUR MEAL.

I have been a regular at this wetherspoons since it opened and recently the the evening service has deteriorated. The bar staff are now more concerned with table service and wandering around than serving behind the bar. The choice of guest ale was one, doombar was off, another customer only got his third choice, where as in Devizes there was a good choice of guest ale.

The Bear, Weatherspoon in Melksham. Busiest place to eat. I look around and realise these are the people who vote leave and will probably vote for Farage. The place is mediocre at best, tables are filthy, gen Z staff are sultry and disinterested. Food is bland, cold and miserable. This is the UK in the 2020s.

Went to this place for a coffee to meet a friend. We both ended up having a lovely tasty breakfast. Veggie breakfast was lovely. Ended up going again a couple days later with husband and had the same experience. Highly recommend

the Bear or should be the bare, tatty furniture, poor service,not enough staff, on this visit run out of clean cups! no glasses for water, no brown sugar, one of the worst "spoons" I've been in.

Friendly service from young lady behind bar. Good selection of food at good prices and a good selection of beer. Food arrived in good time a d looked good. Alas my wife's burger was undercooked and pink inside which put her off the rest if the main meal. We were still peckish so had a pud,the crumble looked like it had done 10 rounds with Tyson then jumped in and put into a microwave. Luckily the young girl apologised and it was sorted.

Called in for quick drink... as a white wine drinker I tolerate the Pinot in here but they didn't have any.... can have from a bottle but only if I buy a bottle!!!! Offered shiraz.... errr no... white wine please... only chardonnay on tap which I hate.. so hubby sat with pint... me? Tapping on my phone.... a suitable alternative should be available surely? What if we were here for a meal.... not happy!!

Used to come here back in the day when it was a proper spit and sawdust pub and was my second home, now it’s a Wetherspoons. Sad to say it’s lost all it’s character and characters but spoon’s have done an excellent job of tarting the place up and you can’t really fault it on its range of drinks and food.All in all well done Spoons, would recommend for a cheap eat.

Firstly was asked for ID after previously being served here multiple times, male waiter was completely abrupt about the situation and wouldn’t listen. Secondly the burger I ordered wasn’t even cooked properly, red meat all the way through I’d might as well just chomp on a cow. Won’t be returning again.

Visited this establishment for the first time, the pub itself was clean (though the table we sat at could have done with a wipe over and the toilets needed a bit of attention, in particular the taps, only one of which seemed to work and it sprayed me!) and the staff pleasant. We ordered using the app which was very helpful.

Great value for money. Good basic breakfast but could have done with fried bread. Loved the unlimited coffee refills. However, closer attention to cleaning down tables needed.

My fiancee and I called in for our evening meal as we did 11 months earlier when we got engaged. Still friendly charming staff, and lovely food. We were very pleased.

I attended a family function at this venue and quite frankly i was embarased to be there with my own family. My dad always takes care of the booking and for the 2nd year running, staff ballsed it up. Also the food was shockingly awfull, i wouldnt of offered it to a homeless person.!! The christmas dinner looked nothing like the menu and was practically inedible.!! You could of filled potholes with the mash potato and the turkey was chewy and tasteless. 1 meal was sent back 3 times before it came out right, another came out half hour after all the others, when it came to the bill they tryed charging for an extra meal we never had. Not once did any member of staff attempt to ask if everything was ok with meal. I dont think i shall be visiting again, i would rather starve.!!

Visited for lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was busy but not heaving. We ordered quickly and the food was great value for money. The Friday deal of fish and chips with a drink is so cheap. Sadly my cutlery was dirty as was the table. The whole place is starting to look a little run down. You cannot beat this place for value for money.

Been here several times, yes it’s hit and miss all the time for food. Chicken was served cold and they heated it up once again in a microwave. It was awful. Manager offered a free desert at half the price of the Chicken meal, so we said ok for 2 deserts at the price of the meal. We were refused 2 deserts as company policy only allows 1 dessert even though we were paying double. Please sort your policies out and make sure you have a decent cook. Yes I said cook not chef.

Went to the Bear for the Curry Club. This is the first time we had eaten here for over a year as had not been impressed with the food last time (this is my local Wetherspoons). The food came out very hot and was tasty, the portions were a good size and good value for money. The only issue that prevents me from given it a 5 is the apparent lack of staff. It was a busy lunchtime but at most only 2 staff on the bar and the wait for service was longer than I expected. The tables were also not being cleared or wiped. Apart from this it was an enjoyable experience and we would eat here again.

Whilst in Melksham popped in for a bite to eat. Although lunch time still found a table, ordered our food and drinks and food was served within 15 minutes,both our meals pannini and fish & chips was hot and tasted good.

Have visited this venue several time and have to say it is our favourite Wetherspoons pub. The layout of the venue is very good, it has a lot of character. The food is always of a top quality. It is 'mid range' food at cheap eats' price. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have a charming outdoor garden when the weather suits. Top marks to the manager and the staff.

Called in 4 us for breakfast at 0800 on bank holiday Monday. The premises opened 5 minutes early and the the staff were very polite and ready to serve, which they did very efficiently.

Visited here bank holiday monday in August. Think it has had a recent refurb. Lovely clean bright interior and a beautiful large garden area. We ordered Rump steak which was perfectly cooked and very good quality tender steak. Also ordered Empire burger =Very, very tasty. Have to say the pictures in the photo gallery are old and I did not see anyy food waste or litter anywhere in either the inside of the pub or in the garden, Staff were very friendly and efficient. All served with a smile. Came and checked after about 5 minutes if all was ok. Will definatly visit again. I was very impressed with the quality of the food and also cheap prices. Have always avoided Witherspoons for food but now will visit more often. Such great value and choice.

We got great service at this weatherspoons and the food was very good. The only thing I can't understand is why Fish and Chips at Devizes is so much cheaper and at Malvern even cheaper. I would not put Melksham as a tourist area like Devizes and Malvern. No offence to Melksham we love our day there.

It's a Wetherspoons - you know the menu and quality of food by now! You get great great value for money HOWEVER when we arrived for breakfast the table was grubby and drink-stained - perhaps this should have warned us of what was to come.

Rude bar staff. Customer service was poor, got out straight ignored by bar staff after ordering food and drinks, asked member of staff for a straw to go with the drinks i just brought still had in hand she walked past obviously ignoring me, i asked a few times as she past she totally ignored me everytime. it was for a disabled member of the group who could not drink with out it or at this point i would of told her to put said straw where the sun doesn't shine, putting it nicely. The person she was then serving then decided to ask for me seeing my frustration and the situation, which like magic but with no puff of smoke or fairy wand sounds her hearing magically started working again just like that, she turnt round with a face like a baboons rear end which i put purely down to the annoyance that she had to actually deal with me after pretending to be hearing impaired the previous few minutes , she said coldly she wouldnt as she was serving her �. I found this ridiculous to say the least, i was served preivous my order was incomplete i wanted a straw. takes 2 seconds to hand over a straw, finally got a straw after a long wait. (If straws are going to be kept out of reach its only right staff are willing to hand paying customers them when requested) ............I wish it ended there but it didnt. I took some of the purchased drinks back to the table outside and returned for the rest when i get back to bar i catch the memeber of staff moaning about me asking for a straw after purchasing drinks.. As i walked past i made known that i heard her talking about me and i would be putting a complaint in at which she asked me to leave � safe to say i gave her some of her own treatment and stayed for my food and drink... Ridiculous experience over a straw. place needs friendlier bar staff if this individual is anything to go by. Waiter was spot on lovely lass and so food was okay but bar staff killed it. Customer service retraining required.

Always good value for money and a good cross section of people (Some spoons become dominated by red nosed boozers). Always clean and well presented and the staff tend to be friendly. We were impressed that a Mums group met with young pre- school kids in mid morning. Also notice that lots of older people meet for coffee. Only been here at night once: it was very busy but we were served speedily, which was a surprise because in most spoons it can become a bunfight when busy. Nice selection of beers, lots of drink offers and options and bottomless coffee. Don't use the garden if you dislike clouds of ciggy smoke.

Monday night after a hard day moving. The airconditioning was just perfect and the staff were very friendly. Really great food and arrived very quickly.

You know what you are getting with a Wetherspoons but The Bear is the best one I have been to. Staff always friendly and food always good and brought out quickly.

There was a group of 11 of us on a Friday night and we hadn’t made a booking.... we managed to find a section where we could kind of sit together as it was quite busy. We were on a tight schedule but our food came so quickly - it was very impressive. It was all very tasty too and great value for money - especially with the meal deals that come with drinks.

This is a great Wetherspoons clean tidy and large with a big lovely beer garden. Definitely the best pub in the town

I have been a local here for a while. The pub itself is being run quite smoothly and is being kept up together, tables are cleared fairly regularly and the food has improved. So this should be better than a 3 review.

Rather dull and drab, our table was not wiped and had sticky rings on it. The two young men at who were serving at the bar and bringing the meals were very pleasant and helpful.

No it’s not a posh place but you know you will get a good meal for a good price. Being veggie there’s a good range of options for crazy good prices.

Good food,a few different ciders,largers & ales, good atmosphere, friendly staff,a good pub overall.

Great place to get missed on the cheap. Food cheap not brilliant but cheap but not bad and not brilliant. Get drunk 1st lol
