I can’t talk enough about how brilliant the staff are here. Customer service was brilliant and the food was delicious. Shout out to Dan the chef! Jayde, Georgie, Lisa and Jenna were so welcoming, nothing too much trouble and thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Definitely be coming back and recommending to others!

I went to the Deer’s rest with three friends on a Sunday evening for dinner, drinks and a catch up. The staff were friendly, service was excellent and the food was delicious. We will definitely come again. A big thank you to Dan, Codie, Lisa, Jayde and Jessica!

Terrible. Just terrible. I went with my family. I ordered a dinner and when it got there it had hairs on it. It was also cold. The staff we're incredibly rude and looked at me with a death stare when I asked for a glass if water for my 4 year old son. And also when my food got there I asked where the sauces were and that said "it's right there" in a very rude tone. And lastly when I had some of the sauce (ketchup) it made me feel sick and later that day I was sick in the toilet. If I could I would give it 0/5 stars

Emma and Jenna were amazing a bundle of laughs Steak great Sticky toffee pudding with custard (cold) how I like it Perfection!

We came in on a Thursday evening walk in table of 9 the bar staff were absolutely amazing to us have a joke even when one of the party ordered cold custard 🤮🤮🤮

Tried Deers Rest for a 2nd time, as our first experience wasn't very good. Now there are new staff and manager it's improved immensely. Food was great, cooked fresh nice and hot. I come here alone and with my family and we always feel welcome. I've always found it very friendly and the bar staff always do their best. Recently Lisa and Rachel served me and when I asked for a complicated food order for my child they were more than accommodating. I love coming here, as does my family. Thank you guys.

Myself and my family visited the deers rest at the weekend and have to say we really was pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed the most amazing family funday there. The staff were amazing so tentative and friendly. The food was lovely and the areas were clean and clear. Only downside was that the kids and husband didn’t want to leave 😂

Regular visitor to the deers rest, friendly staff and good quality beer. Machines and pool table are aways in good condition and available to use. Great food and drinks deal. Mason is lovely and friendly and always happy to help.

I held my sons 18th birthday party here and the staff was extremely helpful setting it all up for me and making sure we all had a good time it was a brilliant night everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time I also had my mums wake here back in September last year and I can’t thank the staff and everyone enough for there support and fantastic customer service always happy and smart

Came here for lunch with my daughter and grandson. Had a lovely lunch but the main thing was the service from Rachel was amazing. She went above and beyond. She brought round some colouring books and pencils for my grandson, asked us if there was anything else we needed. I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. Really really impressed.

We met up as a group for a dinner . The food was nice, nothing special and a little overpriced for what we had. The evening was tarred by the over enthusiastic manager asking for trip advisor reviews. Pacing back and forth leaving us feeling rushed on well 3 course BUT We actually had to leave the restaurant when a group ot 20+ people came into the restaurant area and started moving the furniture around to make a long table. Yes guy this is whilst the food service is in full swing in the restaurant at around 21.15 .. not the Bar. They wasn't there to eat so they shouldn't have been in this area The manager seemed not to care and let them run amoc . They seemed to take over the area. Not good Not satisfied at all with the whole ambiance of place Will.not return

From the moment we walked in staff were friendly and accommodating. Cody and Nicky gave my niece a colouring book and pencils and went to find a children’s menu. Food was perfect and then we had desert which went down great as well. They even brought out Xmas decorations for the littleun to colour in. Checked to make sure we had everything by we needed. Nothing was too much. Always enjoy going here when I get the chance as staff are so friendly, all decorated for xmas as well and nice and warm on a winters day! Fully recommend

Terrible! No customer service, food 1.5 hours late and was appalling (my mother in law was sick for 2 days after). It was a horrible experience. I complained and they never did anything. Stay away. Destroyed day for a 16th bday!

We had a lovely visit at The Deers Rest with friends. The pub was clean and tidy, the staff were so welcoming and the food and drinks were great. Really good value for money. We will certainly visit again soon.

Went to see sentinel force, but didn't really enjoy it, more drum and bass,had a young child for an hour, paid £15 pound per person,it wasn't worth the money that we paid , people was walking in at the side entrance and didn't pay,no one was walking around to make sure that everyone had paid

We had a reservation for sun 23rd May, a table of 4. Covid rules getting into pub was spot on we were seated then began our ordering via mobile, drinks and food. Was really surprised at the menu, but obviously due to just reopening with...

Saddened to write that this was the service we returned to after a long time of lockdown. We text our first order which was served promptly. The cokes were however flat. We then text our second order of drinks to which didn't show up and had to be reminded in a subsequent text. In this text, we ordered our meals to which three items were missing, meaning two of us had to sit and wait whilst everyone else sat and ate theirs. Even AFTER being advised of the mess up, one meal didn't turn up. This was after taking my personal phone to the till to read the text message-simply no excuse.The cokes that were served in pint glasses hardly reached three-quarters full and one that was asked without ice, arrived with ice.I'm usually reluctant to writing poor comments, especially as we are learning to live through COVID-19, however after having our order in plain text, there isn't really an excuse to get it wrong. There was no form of apology or complementary drinks 'on the house' as a token of apology. We won't be visiting again.

Firstly the lack of staff wearing masks was a major red flag, I don’t believe any staff were wearing masks nor was social distancing really enforced between “regulars” and the 2 hour time limit only applied to those who were not “regulars”. After following the instructions and texting our order as requested, we waited 2 hours for mains after asking 5 TIMES only after the 5th time were we informed the ticket hadn’t gone through... no apology was offered and the waitress basically laughed when we had waited 2 hours for food that wasn’t coming. Rubbish customer service, no apology and no discount offered. Then to be told the food could be ready in 10 minutes tells you a lot about the quality and type of food being cooked.... I would not give them the time of day, the worst service ever received... also they do a collection service for food by a bingo call out which is not always clear... also I believe it should be TABLE SERVICE in line with the covid guidelines so failures in every layer and no soap in the ladies toilets especially at this time! Disgusting all round!

Had a fabulous afternoon for lunch and drinks 1st May 2021. Very well organised , text your order and then your table number is called for you to collect drinks. Food was very tasty and arrived piping hot , didn’t wait long for orders and bar and waiting staff very friendly, will definitely visit again . Thank you for a very enjoyable afternoon .

Been coming here for years so as lockdown eases we popped down and was lucky enough to get a table . We ordered our drinks by text and had a short wait of about 20 minutes . The manager and staff do a great job . We booked a table for Saturday in which we was seated and ordered drinks again same wait but the pub was very busy . As drinks are. Called out we order our next drink thinking we would wait a while but they came out straight away . All in all they are really busy so a little wait is worth it . Thanks to all the staff we will be back . Cheers

Returned here for second time since lockdown was lifted, 1st visit was good (although they had no Crisps in stock, and food was stopped early) This visit was not good. We ordered via text when we arrived, ordered Crisps and 3 drinks. Waited 15 mins then staff member said there were no salt and vinegar Crisps, we changed flavour, she then returned to say they had no Coors beer, we changed that. Got our drinks then ordered straight away in the hope we would get drink by the time we finished. We didn't. Then ordered food and drinks, waited over 1 hour having received no food or drinks, our number was called and we were told that the wait would be another 15 mins, we told them to give us our drinks whilst we wait for food. Another 25 mins later we recieved one of the food items but not the other 2 meals. When the other food was ready mine was obviously cold. All in all it took over an hour and 40 mins to get 2 burgers and 1 side. During waiting for this, 3 tables left as they had been waiting the same time for thier first round of drinks. I know how pubs are run as both my mum and sister have pubs, I do no understand what's going on here. Not enough staff for sure, but I don't understand whats going on in their kitchen either. They need to have a serious re-think on how they are running and staffing their pub because right now it is definitely not working.

Im a key worker and have been working all through the pandemic, this was my first night out in well over a year, i took time off work to have a late celebration for my 40th my big mistake was going to this pub we arrived at 6pm ordered our drinks an hour had passed by so politely asked where our drinks was the woman said im sorry we are busy i was totally understanding another 20mins had passed so i again politely asked once more if our drinks was ready and again i was told no, now its 7.45 and had enough so i asked again this time i was told they called my number 3 times and my beers was on the bar, so i said well I dont know how i didnt hear you as my table was next to where they was serving the drinks, i then waited another 10 minutes for them to come back with no drinks i said where are my drinks she said they are flat now i then said that's fine i will still drink them, to be honest at this point I would of drunk anything, then from no where the woman who manages the pub come e running up to me shouting you are not getting a drink now get lost leave your barred i couldn't believe it i never moaned once i was polite and understanding of their stress, but the fact is they don't want to be open poor service, poor attitude if you want to go out and have a good night please for your own good go somewhere else.Im well to offer some advice to the manager1 learn customer skills 2 make sure you have enough staff as you take bookings so you know roughly the numbers3 let customers know when booking that the wait time is 1hr 30 minutes for a drink4 if this is all to much i advice you close until a new manager is appointed or you learn how to run a businessHope my words have been heard good luck for the future

We came to this pub with our booking which was 3pm we ordered our drinks as soon as we sat down .we received our drinks at 4.20pm.we decided to order and next lot of drinks straight away after receiving a drinks at 4:20 and we didn’t get them drinks until 6 pm we then decided to order food with more drinks at 6 pm and we didn’t get her food until 7:10 along with the drinks. I’ll give this a one star rating and that’s being good because I think the service was disgusting the order was terrible I felt that the staff were looking after their locals many people were walking out many people huffing and puffing where you’re supposed to come and relax and enjoy your drink and your food with your family I’m sorry I wouldn’t recommend your pub to anyone very disappointed I think you need to rethink your organisation of how you bring the food out and how people get served.And when you get your staff asking to write a review it’s a bit of a joke yes you want us to write review but really do you want this kind of review maybe if you up your game looked after your customers then you would get a good review

Visited this pub for the first time yesterday with a couple of friends. We sat outside under the marquee. They have a fantastic set up and have clearly worked very hard to re open following the guidelines. The staff were all very professional, friendly and provided a great service especially under these current circumstances. Such a lovely outdoor area so will certainly be returning again. Thank you to everyone who made our first visit a great one. See you all soon- we will be booking in for lunch next time. The menu looked amazing. I have been here many times and will continue to go here as long as I live in the local area.The atmosphere is always cheerful and relaxed from bar staff and the locals. Even when the pub is busy, the staff are always going all out to make sure everyone is happy.The food is of a great standard and has always been cooked with care. The steak especially is fantastic! I have been here both with friends and with family and my visit has been fantastic every time. We held a fundraiser there for my mum to raise money for Macmillan and the staff set up a private marquee for us all to be there and made us feel very welcome helping with everytuing we needed throughout the afternoon.Thank you, we will be visiting again very soon!!

Me my family went their as they do all day breakfast... Big mistake over priced for one. but food was terrible bacon looked grey and sausage were so hard so they were over cooked and crispy fryed egg. They need someone who can cook this was one of my top 10 worse breakfast waste of money

Awful experience. Tried to complain directly on marstons web. Limited to 1200 word/digits and timed out!

We had to queue for ages to get first drink as only using one till for everything. Queued again to order the meal for another 20 mins. Waited over an hour for our meals and when they arrived the meals you could tell the meal portions were a lot smaller than normal times. I understand that the government is paying half of the cost of the meal at the moment but sadly it did not live up to the price. I feel they are taking advantage. Minimal options and even less on the desserts were available.

We went today for lunch we thought we’d take advantage of eatout helpout 50% off so we arrived at 1.45pm order our lunch, 3 starters mushrooms, chicken dippers, potato wedges, fish and chips mushy peas, 3 cokes came too £18So happy with the price we chose to it outside has its in the 80’s today, anyway got a buzzer and we waited and waited and waited 1 hour 15 mins later and 3 trips inside to talk to girls behind the bar 1st one said the ticket machine in the kitchen wasn’t working their not getting all the orders!!! 30mins into waiting 20 mins later 2nd girl said the same thing! And that my order is just being cooked, fuming wasn’t the word, I appreciated they was short staffed! So didn’t rant and rave, 10 mins later only starters came, 5 mushrooms in a bowl! 2 chicken dippers chicken salad see better days and potato wedges which weren’t to bad, by this point our drinks were warm ask for ice they had run out, still waiting for fish and chips no show! By that point we had been waiting 1our 15mins so ask the waitress for refund she couldn’t apologise enough felt so sorry for, she gave me my refund, she shaking i ask her if she was ok? And she she suffered from anxiety and its going through the roof she looked like she was going to burst into tears, really felt sorry for her, there was 3 girls working and the pub was very busy, kitchen staff is dreadful awful food! Would never return!!!

Fed up with the lockdown? Irritated by all the petty rules and regulations that 'lifting the lockdown' is bringing with it?This pub won't spare you all the inconvenience but they make every effort to reduce it to a minimum. When we came in we were asked to give name and phone number, which were written down in a book with the assurance that the information would be destroyed after a couple of weeks. That was it. The tables were slightly further apart and the single-use menus were swiftly but politely snatched from our grasp as soon as we'd ordered at the bar in the traditional way. But apart from that you felt that you were almost back to normal (the real normal, that is, not the new one). The service was friendly, the food tasty. And the beer - why is it that it always seems to taste better in a pub than at home? This pub (like, I suspect, most others at the moment) could do with many more customers. Help them get back on their feet. 

I’ve now been to the Deer’s Rest on three occasions. Before Christmas with friends for brunch. With my mum for lunch during the week and today with my fiancé as a last minute decision for a Sunday lunch. None of us have ever been disappointed! The food has been hot, lovely, served quickly and considering the price you pay, you get a lot of it too! On each occasion, it’s been either fairly busy to really busy but with a really lovely atmosphere. It’s probably “our local” in terms of location but we rarely used it before, that’s definitely about to change. If you haven’t been to the Deer’s Rest yet, the decor is not the only thing to have changed. It’s a really nice place to go, nice place to eat with lovely food and nice staff. You will be surprised x

Went for lunch here today. Never again. The fish and chips was the worst I have ever eaten in my life - soggy, greasy batter, cold, hard piece of something which remotely resembled fish in the middle of the batter and over cooked chips. I cannot even begin to describe how bad the fish tasted.I saw the "chef" walking out of the kitchen, so called her over and explained that the food was inedible - she did nothing and appeared to not care at all. She took the fish to the kitchen and then disappeared. We had already paid for the food and I thought she would come back and do something to rectify the situation, but we didn't see her again.As we were leaving, I thought somebody else should be told that about the disgusting food we had been served, so I told the bar staff who offered us a free dessert, but to be honest, we didn't want anything else from their kitchen. I will never eat here again.

Went on a sunday to enjoy lunch with my friend. I ordered the gammon egg and chips and he ordered the steak (after 2 meals he asked for had ran out) although we arrived at 2pm. At the same time as ordering mains we ordered dessert and I ordered apple pie whilst he ordered cheesecake. The mains came within 10 minutes and tasted adequate. After 45 minutes of finishing our mains, my dessert came. I asked about my friends and he said it was not on the order. We showed the receipt and the server gave us an odd look and said he didnt know what to do. I asked for a manager and he disappeared into the kitchen. He came out 15 minutes later and said they would make it and then 25 minutes after this the dessert arrived. Waiting 1 hour and a half after mains for a dessert in my opinion was not acceptable and we were disappointed as it is a nice and clean pub with plenty to offer.

When we arrived we were impressed with pub. Looks nice. Lady behind the bar was lovely- very friendly. Ordered the food and it was a good price. They were the positives!The food was very disappointing. Kids meals were very poor. Pizza was very tough. Veg was cold. Chicken dippers were overly fried. Wife had roast dinner. Was really cold. Meat was very tasteless. Veg was over cooked. I had a pie- which was filed with very little meat. Nothing was hot.We were left with dirty plates on our table for ages. Had to go and ask for kids puddings, but our dirty plates were left on the table as the had to run (literally) back to the kitchen to collect more food. Later on I took my son to the loo, and the men’s were not clean.Very disappointing all together.

Really can't fault this place, excellent service, excellent food and very friendly staff. Went with 4 adults and 2 children age 3 and 2, Staff was very good with the children and interacted with us all, will definitively be returning and highly recommend this place.

The other day we went to the deers rest (the bear) and it was such a brilliant experience! The young lad behind the bar gave us excellent customer service making us feel very relaxed and finally very welcome . The food overall was quite nice, we had the lamb shank and mixed grill so that was really nice not to mention well presented . Popped in for a quick bite on Sunday Evening, the pub wasn’t very busy and we had to wait ages for the food to arrive, we all had ordered burgers of a different kind.The meals were ok but at the lower end of acceptable pub fair, on the up side the staff were very friendly and helpful but overall it wasn’t great.We will give it another go in the future but for the record it will always be the Bear to me

Just visited this restaurant and was very disappointed, we both ordered the roast, although the service was quick, but to be honest it wasn’t very busy. If you like “al dente” veg then this is the place to eat, I don’t like my veg like a load of mush, but I do like them to be cooked a bit, this were just blanched!Not for us.

Well I been saying to my partner about going to the deer rest and we never got round so this time I said to her we be going out for lunch as we both are home so that what we did snd for the price of the lunch and drinks was not to bad I was like that good u won’t find any other place in the area that is cheap but not that cheap to turn around to say no not again we both been there twice and every time we go there we get good customer service and they are very busy and they are nice people and the what u won’t wen going out for food there a play area for the kids to play in car par there as well and it worth the money for what u get as well so let me say if u got out try there and see what u think ok it may not be everyone choice but u only pay for what u get and yes it a marstons pub and grub

We went to the deers rest the other day and had some food, it was rather nice and the service from Kyle was absolutely spectacular due to him bringing out the food and being friendly in general. It made us feel warm and welcome inside and will definitely be coming back! Well done to russ and the team for giving an amazing service. The staff deserve credit where its due.

Came here on 30/08/19 with my daughter for lunch and all I can say it was disappointing. Ordered food, starter and main course, 35 mins later the starter hadn’t arrived so I asked and the excuse I got was that the chef was new and thought the starter and main course were to arrive together. Doh! What kind of chef doesn’t know the meaning of starter and main course. 30 mins later I am told that there is no rump steak, so I have to wait another 30 mins for my salad. Not a complimentary drink or offer to refund my food was offered. I can say that is was a daunting experience. Bad customer service and the waitress believed that because she was calling me my lovely, would make up for it all. This place is in dire need of customer relationship management. All u get are old men talking about chocolate bars and drinking themselves stupid and bad service. Don’t waste your time. Don’t waste your time coming here.

We arranged a school reunion at what was the Bear public house and were very disappointed on all aspects.With over 20 friends meeting there we all agreed that the general service was poor and very slow with little customer service or a smile.Some asked for coffee at about 10 pm but were told that the coffee machine was switched off!!

Yesterday the pub hosted my Dad's wake. We were very impressed by Russel and the team who were friendly and welcoming and the buffet was fantastic value for money. Certainly will use them again.
