What can I say? I was extremely disapointed at the time we had to wait given they were only serving ourselves. I had asked if I could have a basic salad and a side of chips instead of the salad that came with a meat option, I thought it would be simple to do ( just not inclduing the meat) but the answer was ''no'' My husbands meal was a roast, it was awful the beef was so rare it was raw! he could not eat it, the veg he had were over cooked and mushy - What a shame I expected so much more.

Decided to book a weekend away and someone had recommended The Bayley Arms as it had been taken over by a couple of local chaps and despite the previous bad reviews prior to them taking over I can only say that my wife and I had a most enjoyable week end away. The rooms were very clean, bedding, towels and overall room. Tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely welcome pack with a personal hand written note which really sealed the deal for us. I wish the chaps well and hope that my very honest and recent review helps.

We booked the hotel for two nights as we were attending a wedding at a local venue. We waited at least 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us to check in but the pub was busy ! The manager gave us the keys for room 7 … so we proceeded up the stairs … the carpet was dirty walls white washed. We opened the door to the most horrendous smell … the window was open and due to the rural location of the hotel we wondered whether it was outside… but it wasn’t! It smelled like raw sewage coming from the tired, grubby bathroom. The room was very small and had no wardrobe but a rail for clothes! We could not have put our clothes in this room they would have smelled awful … there was no way we could stay here! My husband went back down to reception but the staff would not speak to us the manager just ignored us! My husband said could we have another room but again was ignored!!! We were furious but what could we do … we left and drove home to drive back again the following morning for the wedding. We found alternative accommodation for the Saturday night! I have contacted booking.com who I booked with and they will not give a refund ! I would avoid this hotel unless you like basic, dirty accommodation and have no sense of smell not forgetting rude, ignorant staff!!!!

Me and my family went for a walk and decided to pop in this pub for a drink on our way back. Upon entering, we walked into an empty pub and was not very nicely greeted by a male member of staff who may have been the manager. We had walked past the covid sign in details station by accident and was very quickly told ‘you cannot just walk in to any pub like that nowadays’ in not a nice manner. This was an accident as i’m not sure many others have done. Upon filling out the details, we ordered at the bar 3 drinks. One was for a family member sat outside the pub who did not want to enter due to covid and too many of us being in the pub. However, the same male member of staff then insisted that the family member sat outside waiting for a drink MUST enter the pub and fill out the covid sign in. This makes no sense whatsoever as by entering the pub to do this you are putting someone at more risk. But the staff member would not pour a drink for the family member otherwise. We have been out in other pubs and this has never been the case. The whole experience despite being just a pop in for a quick drink was awful. The same member of staff never once used a please or thank you and was quite clear fed up which in some cases we could fully understand given the past 18 months in hospitality however, there was just no need for the rudeness in his approach. It did actually put a dampner on what had been a very nice walk.

Worst place I have ever been!! No customer service skills at all, no organisation skills at all. Such a shame when it used to be so lovely...... Double booked a family meal the night before our wedding (which was at the Shireburn, thank goodness), even though we had booked all their accommodation and it was done in 2018, it was somehow double booked with another wedding party. So after telling our family and wedding party we had a separate eating room booked and a special menu just for us, making it extra special, they had double booked us!!!! Devastated doesn’t even come close, how embarrassing! To make it all worse the accommodation was just as much a mess up too..... The week before our wedding we received an email to say they were going to cancel our accommodation as our guests hadn’t rang to confirm rooms & give card details. To note.... we had paid £320 deposit (£20 for each room) and our guests had all rung and been given mixed information, including ‘our system is down, but don’t worry you are in the paper diary’. However I still got in contact with guests staying and explained they needed to ring, which they did. Some room were un-occupied which the Bayley Arms were informed about. There was one room that our guests hasn’t rang and confirmed so we knew this would be cancelled as that is what the Bayley Arms had told us. A week after we decided to contact the Bayley Arms to find out when we would be refunded our deposit, seen as all our guests had been charged full and we hadn’t heard from them. To our calculations we were due £180 as we had taken 9 rooms over the weekend, the ones that had no guests staying in we presumed we would lose the deposit on, although with the absolute mess up of meal and booking of rooms, a full refund of £320 would have been nice. But to our disgust they wanted to charge us for the room that hadn’t been confirmed even though they told us it would be cancelled if they did not receive card details from our guest. I would have rung and told them myself we weren’t using it if I didn’t think it was going to be already cancelled by them. So they have refunded £92.50. They have refused to refund anymore...... thats £227.50 they have had off us!!!!!!!! I would never usually complain or give negative feedback but the service has been so poor and so horrible through-out.

I’d like to be able to review the food but unfortunately the kitchen was closed (on a Bank holiday Sunday whilst the village was buzzing). I phoned the evening before our visit to book a table and was told to call back, when I did there was no answer. I called the on the day and was told to just turn up. When we arrived the kitchen had been closed due to staff shortages. That I can forgive, goodness we all have issues with staff sometimes. What is inexcusable is the rudeness of the member of staff who basically just said it’s tough and there’s nothing she can do about it. We collected our things and promptly left. I won’t be posting a review of the food in the future as you can be sure we won’t be returning! Our experience of this venue has been brilliant in the past but what a let down now. It’s amazing the difference an attitude can make. Even the other customers looked shocked at the ladies rudeness (what little customers there were anyway).

This place has had a chequered history but seems to be on the up again. The interior is as welcoming and comfortable as before whether drinking or dining. They have a better than average selection of ales. The menu is sensibly limited but with enough choice of the usual bar fare at reasonable prices. They have a good selection of sandwiches. The waitress was pleasant and helpful but a bit rushed at times. Our food came quickly and was well presented and cooked. No complaints. So definetly worth a visit once more if you are in the area.

Although the food came at different times the service itself was brilliant with the man behind the bar checking everything was okay and constantly being there if we wanted any sources etc. Shout out to the chef who’s clearly been working a long time as 16 dishes were brought out as promptly as possible with no mistakes and all absolutely delicious (which yes I can say as I ate everyone’s food) the burgers were amazing however I would also rate the cheesy garlic bread with garlic mayo very highly. The restaurant was empty at 6 pm on Mother's Day? You could hear a pin drop. Luckily we had music on our phones to provide some ambience and we lit our own candle. We were told we could only order from the Mother's Day set menu which we thought odd but fair enough. All the mum's got a free glass of prosecco which was nice even if the glasses were covered in a thick layer of dust.

We were a party of 6 that had booked a meal for 7:30pm Friday just gone. The pub was not busy at all with only a handful of tables occupied. Once we had placed out orders for starters and mains we waited patiently for the first course to arrive. The first course arrived at 8:50pm which was quite frankly ridiculous. I have visited England a number of times, dating back to my first visit in 1975. At that time, inns like the Bayley Arms were not noted for either their food or rooms. As smoking was then allowed in pubs and hotel bars, staying in someplace like the Bayley Arms would have left you smelling and tasting like an ashtray. Oh, how things have changed today. We were visiting Ciltheroe, England with another family member and it was recommended that we stay in the Bayley Arms, which is located in Hurst Green (home of Stonyhurst Hall), about 6 miles to the west of Clitheroe. The building (we were told) dates to the 17th century and houses a pub/restaurant on the main floor with rooms above. The main floor of the building retains much of the charm of old pubs, although the fireplaces are now all electric or gas. The rooms above have been mostly modernized, but be warned: there are no telephones, the televisions are small and the WiFi could use some upgrading. However, they are spacious, very clean and most have nice views of the surrounding houses and fields. The real surprise came at our first dinner at the Bayley Arms. The menu is extensive and offers a credible number of local dishes (meat or fish pies, local beef and chicken), as well several burgers and pizzas. However, this is not tourist "pub" food, but very well prepared dishes, using excellent ingredients and beautifully served. Whoever is in the kitchen knows what they are doing as every meal we've eaten here has so far exceeded our expectations. The prices will also seem attractive to most anyone coming from a more urban area: most mains range between 10 and 16 pounds, sides around 5 pounds as are desserts. With wine or beer, we mostly managed to get by on under 20 pounds per person. In London, you could easily spend double this amount for a far less attractive meal. The restaurant is located next to the bar area, which looks much like you would expect, including the patrons who are accustomed to having their dogs join them for a beer. English beer selections have improved over the years and several local brews are on offer. They are not quite like craft beers in the U.S., but still quite good. However, if you don't fancy beer, the Bayley Arms also offers a wide selection of wine, as well as distilled beverages. For anyone traveling in the area, I would highly recommend a stay at the Bayley Arms (about 80 pounds at night, including VAT)

Arrived around 2pm on Thursday between Xmas and NY. It's a lovely little pub with roaring fires and nicely decorated. The service seemed under pressure and very slow. The waiting staff seemed stressed and didn't offer a warm welcoming country pub greeting you may expect. They were busy and had been very busy all day by all accounts. The staff were polite but that was it. We ordered food for 6 of us. The standard of the cuisine was again not at the level I expected. I ordered shredded hoisin duck on Granary bread. What arrived was initially white bread then after sending it back two blobs of gloopy duck on two triangles of plain brown bread with a pile of lettuce on the side. Disappointing for £8 (inc chips)We had to ask for options for Gluten Free for my Mum the waiter said he would have most things made suitable for a Gf diet, She opted for soup which arrived with croutons, it was bland and boring. We also enquired if the chips were Gluten free (not cooked in contaminated fat) but disappointing they were not suitable. My daughter had an artisan pizza which looked and smelled amazing but was burnt on part of it and was not pleasant. They forgot most of the extras we had ordered, beans for the little one, portions of chips etc, croutons on soup, wrong bread. It just seemed as tho they were a little out of their depth with the covers they were experiencing. The location is perfect for walkers or visitors to Stonyhurst College and I could imagine enjoying an evening with a bottle of wine next to the fire. I will definitely visit again and give them another go, maybe at a less hectic period next time.

The Bayley Arms is a jewel of Lancashire and offers a springboard to explore the Ribble Valley and Trough of Bowland with fabulous views of Pendle Hill where once the witches held sway. It is only about 12 minutes walk from Stonyhurst College - the Catholic public school school in a very Catholic part of Lancashire. So there are fabulous walks and scenery as long as it's not raining. The hospitality is first class with bistro type food, a well stocked bar, hearty breakfasts and comfortable bedrooms with refurbished bathrooms. Coffee and tea arrive on demand. The room rates are extremely reasonable but it is necessary to book well in advance of a visit as Stonyhurst parents tend to visit to see their sons and daughters at weekends.

We went for a meal here the other weekend, I'd never been, my partner chose it here as he'd been for a drink in the past & said it was a lovely pub.First impressions where very pleasing and it's decor is lovely. We sat on the restaurant side to the right of the bar. Staff where lovely & polite and very attentive. We had food from the offer board which was a good selection up to three courses and very reasonable price. The food was amazing! I had mushroom soup to start & steak pie for main, all freshly made and cooked to perfection....the steak pie was exactly that with so much meat in it. I had a large glass of red wine too .The atmosphere was lovely, plenty of people having a good time. Staff made sure you where happy and had everything you need. Was perfect....can't wait to go back. Thanks for the lovely meal Bayley Arms!

we actually booked, but it was so our group, knew where we were going this month.A very warm welcome on arrival, tables large, and seating was comfortable.menus and drinks orders given quickly. full menu available but we went for the two/three course menus. which were very good value, large appetite needed.good choice of starters and mains, if you have any room, the sweets are to die for.Large selection of beers, well looked after. the restaurant is comfy and a little more light and airy than the main bar area, but comfort is supreme. our group will be returning again soon.

Called into today for lunch with my family it was lovely, as was lunch when we had it there last week. Daniel and the lovely young lady behind the bar ( sorry forgot her name) made us so welcome and are lovely and friendly. I will highly recommend this place for a lovely meal and a lovely welcome. It is good value for money as well.

I'm giving a 'very good' for the warm welcome received. We stopped for a sandwich, chips and a drink. The ham was gorgeous but the bread not particularly fresh. Chips I think had been re-heated in a fryer ... Tasted a bit stale and greasy on the inside. They came quickly ... Would rather have waited for fresh chips. But we will definitely return and try a meal ... Another chance to impress cos we liked the staff!

We enjoyed our lunch in the pretty beer garden on the village side of the pub, which was perfect as we had three dogs with us. The menu has some very nice choices for lunch, including a range of light lunches, which are great value at £6.99 and include roast ham with egg and chips, pulled pork / beef brisket sandwiches, etc. Portion sizes were good. My pavlova dessert was lovely and huge. The service was helpful and friendly. Even better, I somehow ended up with two portions of ice team to go with my pavlova! The menu is ideal for lunch time. Would recommend and will be back.

Very nice premises in a great location just off the village centre. We went for a pleasant meal and had just that. Our reception was great, as we sat down at a table in the bar we were greeted with menus and our attention drawn to the specials and things which were not available. The wine list was produced on demand and was limited but satisfactory. Drinks were served promptly and our food order taken promptly without making us feel rushed. Thereafter the service was excellent. The starters field (mushrooms/duck spring rolls) were very good but one main course (suet pudding) was a little overcooked whereas the roast BBQ chicken was fine. Overall a pleasant experience without a spark to make it stand out from the ordinary.

We called into this pub this afternoon for a beer after a walk and had the best pint I have had in a long time. It is obviously run by a landlord and staff who care about the maintenance and quality of the beer that they serve and who run a really excellent pub. Additionally when I asked to buy one of the specialty pint glasses for a friend, I was given one at no charge. We will certainly return to The Bayley Arms when next in the area and will make sure that we leave time to eat there as well, as the food looked delicios. Thanks you to both the people concerned.

As a group of friends we tried the Bayley Arms at lunchtime this week - we were not disappointed - the menu choices must surely cater for just about everyone's taste, the food served was well prepared, plentiful and tasty! The staff who attended to us were most helpful; nothing was too much trouble along with creating a pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely eat there again and have no hesitation in recommending the Bayley Arms for others to try.

Not been for a long time and heard there was new owners since last time so gave it a try. Quite busy on arrival and food people where eating in the bar area looked and smelled lovely. Ordered drinks and were shown to our table in dining room. Handed menus and a specials menu. A very varied menu and something for most tastes. I tried the duck spring rolls with a plum sauce as a starter which where very good. I followed with a fish pie with carrots and mange tous and my wife had salmon which she described as amazing and finished the lot. Lovely girl from down under served /waited on us and is an asset to the Bayley Arms. Lovely meal all round and would recommend you giv.e it a try

We decided to try The Bayley Arms out again after a very unimpressive experience a number of years back after we heard it had changed hands. What a difference new ownership makes! The staff who served us couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The food was really great value and quality with the pizza, fish pie and suet puddings all being great - in fact nothing we had disappointed! The only tiny thing that means its a "very good" rather than "excellent" is the fact that our main courses arrived within seconds of our starters being finished and cleared away. Maybe we are just slow eaters All in all, a huge improvement on what was and we will definitely be visiting again soon. Thanks all.

We went for a meal with friends on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere is friendly relaxed and homely with plenty of room between tables and a traditional bar area with pool table....sadly lacking in many gastro pubs now. The food was very good. Beware the starter fish platter....it's huge!! We had that for a main meal and it was plenty. The duck spring rolls were so tasty and with the addition of crispy seaweed make a delicious starter. All our meals were faultless and the service was excellent...we didn't have to wait for anything. We will return soon!

Had lunch with a friend today (26th June 2016) and from the customer service to the food I couldn't fault it. My tuna steak was cooked exactly how I asked, practically fresh from the sea which I struggle to get from some of the more expensive fine diners I've frequented over the years! Loved it and will go back again and again.

Nice friendly pub, lovely ambience, good food and beer. Whole thing spoilt by the large sharing Mezze I ordered for us at £12.95 it was to say the least disappointing just a few pitta bread bits, olives, small bowl hummus , bowl of oil , not really a Mezze at all by any definition. Waitress was embarrassed to her credit and upon complaining price reduced to a small Mezze. Chips and pizza very nice. Shame really.

We had visited the bayley last year in the summer and was very let down by the service but we said we will give it another go as it has new owners and also been hearing alot of good reports. The food was second to none as it was last time, we had pizzas and burgers and they were all to die for (the thinnest pizzas ive ever had) the gourmet burgers are huge and the burger sauce is something else. The service was amazing, the pub looks amazing and we were all very happy we came back. We will be seeing you very soon.

The new owners working hard to make a difference and it shows - service levels at the bar are much improved- they've introduced some good food offers and the atmosphere is great once more..Regular live music too! Their new pizza oven is fab - really tasty pizzas. The food took a bit longer to arrive than was ideal but that just meant that we demolished them when they came. Shared a fish platter as well, which was also very good.. Thank you :)

We visited this pub a few times whilst preparing to get married at the Shireburn Arms down the road and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The welcome was always warm, as was the pub as it's got a fine log fire. Overall, well worth a visit for a pint and some food. We didn't stay over so cannot vouch for the rooms but freidns did and were very happy with them.

Booked for 5 of us for Mothers Day. We arrived to a warm welcome and were quickly seated and given menus. Our drinks order was taken and arrived promptly followed by our order being taken - this is where the positive points come to an end.Our starters took 45 minutes to arrive with the large party behind us being served starters and mains before we got our starters. These were very non descript and certainly nothing to write home about but we were very hungry by now.Our mains took a further 20 minutes to arrive after our starters were cleared but it allowed us time to have a family catchup.4 of us had ordered roast beef (one well done) and one roast pork. When they arrived they were gristly, dry and tough with only my husband planning to chew and finish his. Not once were we asked if everything was ok.By now there was another large party within earshot so I went to the bar to express our concerns. The gentleman who spoke to me stressed that they had been serving the meat all day with no complaints (no one around us ordered the Sunday roast) but that he would refund 3 of the meals - this wasn't what I wanted. He also said that he would come to our table to look at the meat we had left. He did come to our table to take me in the kitchen and show me 3 pieces of meat with no fat on them but not the rest of the joint I hasten to add!He never came anywhere near us after that leaving his waitress to clear our table and when we asked for the bill, 4 main courses had been deducted - I would rather have had an apology and been offered a dessert maybe.I did not expect to be taken to be humiliated.A lesson in customer service required I think but we won't be returning

Walked in to the most amazing "pub" - roaring log fire, candle lit and a warm and buzzy atmosphere. The restaurant is at the back and what a delight! I live just outside London where this would be described as a gastropub. The food was amazing- the steak melted in my mouth and the chips were even better than my mums. Breakfast was wonderful too. The wine list could be a little broader but other than that - fantastic!
