A welcome surprise to visit the bay horse it has been a long time ago when I was in here

Perfect place to go locally, the recent refurbishment makes the place so relaxing and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming! Definitely my new fave spot for a quick drink or a nice Sunday afternoon visit

Hi I've given a 4 star as I've read review on a few and are very good. I understand its under new management the last time we came it was absolutely terrible coming from a family of chefs 👩‍🍳 it was a zero star 🌟 so was wondering if you are open on a lunchtime and if so what time do you serve from and till as we would like to give you a try. Thankyou

my wife and i called into bay horse yesterday the 11/03/2022 for lunch we hadn't been since the new owners had taken over and as the black board said outside (we serve fantastic food) from start to finish it was a great experience. the young lady serving us was friendly and very helpful my wife had cottage pie and i had fish and chips ,the fish is sourced from our Doncaster fish market and wow when it arrived to our table you could smell the aroma of the fish and it felt like it had just been caught and brought to the table, overall a fantastic experience and the sweets were great too first class i would definitely recommend the bay horse.

My local pub, lovely friendly atmosphere, the landlady Bev is a diamond.

Intimidating, constant fighting.. think that about sums this place up.. never again 😒

Nine of us Visited on Wednesday for Christmas dinner and had an absolutely fantastic three course meal. The staff were so accommodating giving us excellent service and great food. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Great Christmas lunch for 18 people at Bay horse, Hatfield Doncaster, enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal, big thank you to Darren and his team for making our family welcome and feeding us delicious home cooked food with all the trimmings 👍👍

Lovely lunch but far too many herbs in the food overpowering but nice would recomend more simple but great that it was home made chips

Been today for lunch and had a lovely meal, my fiance had fajita chicken burger and he was really impressed it was actual chicken breast and not frozen chicken, being vegetarian/pescatarian I was happy to see I could have something other than fish and chips or a jack fruit burger which is a 👍 for me and I had a tasty vegetarian lasagne and it was enjoyable the only 1 thing that let it down was the veggies could have done with cooking a lil longer but it didn't change the fact I enjoyed my lunch 😋

Went on Wednesday for my sister in law's birthday as we have used the Bay Horse on many occasions. The new manager come over to introduce himself to us and straight away got into our bad books by criticizing South Yorkshire people. (he is from York) We ordered our meals and was not really impressed on the quality (the chips were nice) the mushy peas were more like a puree or pea soup and my chicken pie tasted more like steak and ale pie as I have never seen chicken pie with black gravy. After settling the bill it was observed by several people the manner in which this guy handles his staff, almost to the point of bullying. Sorry Bay Horse but you have lost some good customers.

Hatfield is the village I grew up in. Have been here hundreds of times and decided to try since it’s recently been taken over. Tuesday 6pm and there were lots of tables reserved at that time including ours. The young man behind the bar was very busy taking drink orders,food orders and running into kitchen to answer customers queries. We ordered a gammon, a pie and salmon. I believe the food was ready way before it made it to our table as the food was cold. My gammon had been cooked folded over so was undercooked in the middle. My fried egg was rock solid and chips were cold. Next meal was pie and yes there was lots of meat inside but the pastry was dried out and rock hard ~ my friend left the pastry. Her veg was luke warm and cold chips. The salmon was overcooked and cold plus some of the chips were raw. 2 of us decided on pudding. There was no crumble as they’d run out of fruit and another dessert wasn’t available. My friend had the cookie dough which made been heated in the oven until it resembled a puréed cookie! Now I know a family member of mine makes these and they are delicious but this was soggy and burnt the chocolate. We asked for coffee and had it practically thrown at us by a lady from the kitchen who was clearly harassed. I have since discovered it wasn’t the normal cook and perhaps they were understaffed but the quality of the food served on Tuesday was not nice. The landlord appeared from upstairs as everyone had been fed and the tables were cleared When I went to pay the landlord asked if everything was ok “I said it wasn’t good” he said “right do you want a receipt?????” Didn’t know what to say to that so we left. We will not be returning.

Great night for karaoke lovers.

Had food at The Bay Horse Inn today, steak and onion baguette with home made chunky chips and side salad that also had fresh fruit on. All the food here is cooked fresh to order, no where else offers that around here. It does mean you wait a little longer for your food but it's well worth it. Oh and try there home made onion rings absolutely gowjas!! Thank you to all the staff Stacey, Jamie Maria and Laura all very friendly and passionate about their work.

Friendly helpful staff. Rescued us when q for food at our nearby campsite was over an hour. Kids would have preferred plain rather than “deathly onion gravy” (I liked it!)

Had the Steak and Ale pie and I can honestly say it's one of the nicest pies I have ever had. Lovely little pub for either food or just a drink Attentive host , and friendly staff. Will definitely be back very soon.

Went today for Sunday lunch . Lovely clean pub with all COVID restrictions enforced which is good . Staff are lovely and very friendly . And very attentive .Darren the owner came and introduced himself . Very nice guy with loads of ideas and full of enthusiasm for the place as he’s not long taken over it . Food is amazing with good portions and not long to wait . And the deserts are stunning the lemon cake was massive and my partner couldn’t decide between milk or white chocolate millionaire short bread so he had both . Lol Empty plates all round except the mother in law that couldn’t manage all hers . Will definitely go back couldn’t fault the place . Thanks Darren and team hopefully be back soon.

Visited during the last phase of lock-down. We were greeted at the door by a friendly and welcoming member of staff who talked us through the Covid precautions. The menu offered plenty of variety and the freshly cooked food was of a high standard and well presented. A most enjoyable visit which we hope to repeat in the near future. Thank you to all staff, both front of house and behind the scenes!

We ordered our food and then shortly after all the power went off in the kitchen. Darren the landlord was very apologetic. Then he and the chef, Dan came up with a plan and we got our food. All of which was excellent, especially the rabbit pie, which this place used to be famous for and it did not disappoint. All the staff are extremely friendly and have no hesitation in recommending this place.

Very well lit up pub staff were ok when they got to know you but if your like me get panicky with panic attacks then this pub isn't for you I felt like I was being watched all the time and not by staff but the customers especially since i was on my own i didn't feel comfortable outside area is great for us smokers or who just want to chill if it wasn't for the staff i would have give a 2 stars due to the customers making me feel unwelcome

Really friendly locals with lots to advise about local points of interest. Handling the covid restrictions really well. Just really nice.

Very late review but came here for our Christmas work party. The meals were pre ordered and arrived quickly when you were all seated. There was lots of food and all home cooked. Desserts were equally as nice. Would recommend

We stayed at Hatfield water park camping and called for tea, taking advantage of eat out to help out. I was impressed with the efforts the staff went to to keep the tables and environment clean. I noticed they carefully sanitised each placemat, table and menu. They bar staff were brilliant, staying ‘back’ as customers learned the expectation of staying in their place to order drinks. Traditional pub fare of pies, battered fish, lasagne... all the better for getting the reduction on our bill. Be sure to phone and book, they were busy.

Great food often visit with my Mam and family, the beef and lamb we had was cooked to perfection! Very friendly staff we are always met with a polite word and a smile. One of the best local Sunday dinner’s around. Thank you

we called on a Friday evening for the famously Good Rabbit Pie there was lots of space the after xmas lull ?, the Pie and the Chips and the roast Potatoes are good but the other vegetables were disappointing . The new decor is pleasant but not the increased prices.

Food was lovely Linzi our server was amazing checking both our meals are as we wanted them. Even getting us drinks to save us going to the bar while eating. Thanks

I came in for Sunday Dinner and was given the warmest welcome from the staff. My table was set within minutes of me entering by the two waitresses. As I settled in I was asked for what I would like to eat as they had a variety of options. The food was absolutely outstanding. We Will definitely be back again for Sunday dinner.

Ate here while staying at Hatfield activity centre. Lovely walk from there and warm greeting on arrival. Excellent menu with amazing home made pies a specialty. Husband opted for steak and ale pie while I had salmon in a prawn sauce. Both were served piping hot and were absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Worth a drive out or a visit if staying at the site. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Went for Sunday lunch as heard the food had improved , the carrots were nearly raw the rest of the veg nearly dried out, the mash lumpy & dry .And when I commented to the waitress she spoke to the manager who in a very loud voice asked other members of staff to try the carrots . After standing starring at our table for 5/10 mins she came across & offered me a coffee & I replied no as the meal was disgusting & dry to which she then started to get loud & nasty saying she would take the meal off the bill & that was slapped on the table in minutes. So taking that as a sign we were to leave my daughter noticed they took the wrong meal off the bill . That was a red rag to the bull she got louder & louder so I told my daughter to leave it as she made herself look a t**t only to be told loudly that the only person who was a t**t was me for saying the meal was disgusting then in chimes the brave guy who thought he was hard to start on two women . I have never felt so sorry for the staff who work for a woman like that

Since Christine has taken the reigns at The Bay Horse it’s gone from rubbish to fantastic, she is putting her heart and soul into building up a good trade, and it’s working all the food is spot on and is very fresh and hot, it’s one of the very few places where you can get Steak & Kidney pie and even Rabbit Pie! You do need to book if you don’t be prepared for a fair wait....

We were regulars here but after Andy left and a new landlord arrived we went only once and it was awful. However following a tasteful refurbishment and the arrival of a new Landlady we have again become regulars. The food is good and the staff are very welcoming.

Just had Sunday lunch - 10/10 absolutely delicious, the pub has had a refurb, it is so much better, friendly staff, good service, superb food. We will certainly start going again more often.

We haven't been for such along time then took the opportunity to eat when told it was under new management. WOW.... Lovely new decor, new function room. Chris the manager, what a genuine lovely woman. Made us feel like one of the regulars as soon as we came in. Friendly staff delicious home cooked food. Hence why we have booked in for Sunday lunch. Would highly recommend this place.

Recently refurbished but still has the same pub like charm. The food is first class home cooking although the menu is now smaller but it’s the quality that counts not the quantity. Advisable to book in advance for a very enjoyable meal.

Firstly a huge thank you to the New Landlady who kindly held the kitchen open so my parents who are visiting from abroad could have lunch! The food , staff and atmosphere was top notch! A good pub with at least one real beer. The pub is the nearest to Bentley Railway Station. The pub is about half way between the station and bus stops. Hot food is only served on Sunday afternoons. Pub games are played here.

We have been here before the choice is good with a largevariety of home cooked meals, real chips. The pub is only small as is the carpark but a really nice place to eat. Iwould recommend the lasagne, the others hadbeef in red wine, beef and stilton pie and spinach and ricotta cannelloni, all said it wasgoid. Very reasonably priced goid service andgoid bread and pudding.

Went on a Saturday afternoon, place was fairly quiet. Comfortable surrounding and ambience. Drinks were prompt. Food order was quite quick. I had ham and eggs with chips. Ham was nice, egg was great, the chips were out of this world! Spot on chunky chips, perfectly cooked and yummy. Well worth the trip on their own. Well done, we will be back soon

Friendly and efficient service, the pub is well run, clean and offers a fantastic atmosphere especially at peak times such as evening and weekends. There is live entertainment on Sundays and disco karaoke on Friday and Saturday as well as a comprehensive selection of drinks both soft and alcoholic. The interior decor has a cosy traditional character to it you could only find in a British pub which elevates your sense of satisfaction. Highly recommended

Amazing place to be if you want down to earth people and a good night. . I haven't been in for some years.. but after meeting the landlord tonight I thought he was very nice and genuine 😊.. The music and entertainment was good and the drink prices were really good also.. I would definitely recommend to anyone and will be making an appearance again soon.. Thank you to the staff there as well.. I've really enjoyed the experience. 👍

Rude staff and regulars. Will never step foot in there again. I entered on the phone trying to locate a friend I was meeting there and was greeted with "toilet is £1", then some verbal abuse, including the c-word. Quite scruffy inside and an odd smell, too. Avoid.
