There is a large board on the wall next to the bar stating all real ale is £2.20 per pint "Mon to Wed". We went in on a Tue and where charged the full price per pint and when we queried this, the young lady behind the bar said it meant Mon and Wed, not Tue!!! Bar staff were also unaware of the CAMRA discount advertised on a different board! We drank up and left as we really couldn't be bothered to argue the point - shame really as the pub itself seemed OK on a quiet night, but could be a different matter at weekends.

Worked our way along the various bars & deviated from the norm ending up in the Bay Horse, pleasant couple of drinks, prices on a par with every where else, not too rowdy & pleasant decor compared to some we'd visited, was rather late but no bother which is is rarity for this town!

Like a number of pubs in Bishop Auckland they need up dating. This pub was great a few years ago however it has lost its sparkle lately, its plus points are there have been some good live bands on week ends. But the management should be more strict as regards who they admit as there are sometimes some dubious characters, who can make life uncomfortable.

A typical Bishop Auckland pub although a bit on the expensive side. We've been here before as a family and the landlady was lovely ... so we decided to go back again for a light lunch. Walk in, the barmaid smiles at me and says "we don't allow children". No signs on the door saying that, no explanations, just a rather rude girl who seemed to take a dislike to me. Never going back.
