This pub has recently had a facelift, and boy does it show. It looks fantastic. The staff are very welcoming, I didn’t have an alcoholic drink but other customers seemed happy with their drinks. The food holy smokes the food was amazing, very well presented and tasted brilliantly. Overall very successful visit. I know the new landlady so I’ll be back multiple times! Good job folks

Called in for tea yesterday and we were so impressed! It’s now under new management and has been beautifully refurbished. The menu is not traditional but new and exciting - definitely worth a try. We ordered the flavoured chicken wings, jalapeño poppers & smashed burgers and they were all delicious. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

New food offer is fantastic, really is nothing like it in the local area. The smashed burger tasted so good, it was so flavourful with sweet bacon, tangy pickled onion, spicy bbq sauce. The chicken tenders with honey buffalo sauce were excellent as well. I highly recommend a visit. I’ll certainly be back.

Very disappointed with our meal tonight. Staff pleasant but food not good and poor value for money. The couscous salad was really bad and the portions of chicken really small. The peppercorn sauce was weak and overpriced at £2.95!.

After a couple recent positive visits for food and drinks I thought we could arrange a long awaited family get together to Celebrate so many missed special occasions over the last few months .. we decided to use the marquee area ( even though the rest of the pub take hygiene VERY seriously). Ben and Kerry suggested a buffet due to numbers, I even met with the chef to choose options ! Boy we were not disappointed.. the food was lush ... freshly prepared and served with a smile and an attentive service ! This was not an ordinary boring buffet !! It was fresh and varied and I’ve never sent compliments to the chef for a buffet before . We’re really grateful to the team at The Bay for making our day so special . Means a lot xxx

We went here today for my dad's birthday, we all ordered very different meals. We had starters and mains. For starters we had prawn cocktail, garlic flatbread, and fish goujon sandwich which was delicious, just the right amount to enjoy. The mains we had gammon, rump steak, fish and chips, cheese and onion pie and chicken burger. All homemade, fresh and the best we've eaten in a while. Even my brother said "wow" he was impressed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, even on top of their Covid-19 guidance which makes you feel a lot safer eating here. Both chefs are brilliant and heard nothing but good things from everyone. All staff made sure we was topped up on drinks and made us feel welcome. Definitely will be heading back there very soon.

What a treat - new management and new chef delivering top class food at local pub prices ! The fish and chips was up there with the best I've had - large fish, crispy batter and great mushy meas. Hubby had sausage and mash which he devoured ..came with lashings of gravy - with a shine on - having recently watched mastechef I understand this is what a top class gravy should look like ! I was looking everywhere in London for the beef my mother used to cook. It's going to be a budget to go from London to the Bay Horse to eat it again.... The vegetables... HEAVEN! Vine, desserts, decoration...everything was just perfect and scrumptious. Christmas this year for me was on the 12th of December! Thanks to the Bay Horse Inn for such a great time! We called in for a bite a few nights ago and have to say the food was excellent. Our last visit was fine, typical pub grub, but on this occasion it really impressed us. Called in with my husband and our two grandchildren for tea as we thought it looked like a nice little pub. We were shown to a table and ordered drinks and our meal after 15 mns or so our meals arrived. The grandchildren had spaghetti & meatballs which were ok. My husband had steak & ale pie which was ok but they are only small portions with a few chips and a small amount of mixed vegetable. I ordered cheese & onion pie which I expected (as you would) to contain cheese & onion. How wrong can you be? It contained about 3 pieces of onion, I could not see or taste any cheese, it consisted of what seemed to be left over mashed potato in a pastry crust the top of which I could barely get my knife through. I spoke to a member of staff about it not saying the pie contained potato on the menu and was offered an alternative. As my husband and grandchildren were already served with their meals it would have meant me sitting with no meal whilst they ate theirs and then them having to wait for me to have mine so declined the offer. The worst pie I have EVER had in my 60+ years.

The very real Secret Santa Ltd decided to call into the Bay Horse Inn today as we'd heard the food was excellent from a few sources. The place from the outside looked warm and welcoming, great gardens and tidy car park. Once we were in the pub looked fantastic - we have been in before last year sometime - But now under new management. We were shown to a great corner table for the Secret Santa "posse" to order the food and start on our drinks and Christmassy discussions :-) The landlady - I think served us and was brilliant there were 4 adults and a 8 & 3/4 year old with us and we all had really amazing starters (Garlic bread, Cheese garlic bread, delicious prawn cocktail (I had that :-) ) and a couple of Pate starters - Hidden in the corner we all had a taste of each others, as you do .. Really nice. And then Plate meat pie for me, Steak in ale pie for the wife, a curry for the daughter and gammon and egg for her partner .. I have NEVER seen a piece of plate meat pie as large - but it tasted really nice too as did everyone else's. What we ordered was quite traditional admittedly but there was LOTS on offer and the place clean, bright, inviting and warm. Highly recommended as to be honest … I need to go back and try that Chicken curry my daughter had. Oh and Secret Santa ? Well we give every single under privileged child in Blackburn and Darwen and balanced sack of presents to open on Christmas day morning. Due to a plethora of good pubs in the area, I hadn't been to the Bay Horse for a good few years and the food then had been really not that great. Went on Sunday as the Traders Arms in Mellor was too busy to fit us in and found that the food was surprisingly good. Both chaps in our party had plate meat pie which was sizeable and tasted good they said. My friend and I had fish and chips. Now the chips were not great for any of us - they were either over cooked or had been left to sit under a hot lamp for a bit and were quite hard. Also, clearly only frozen chips to begin with - it would be nicer if they were homemade. But the fish was honestly the best battered fish I have had for a long time, it was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. I'd go again just for that and give the benefit of the doubt over the chips - the place was quite busy so maybe that was the reason.

A couple of weeks ago, after being recommended by some friends, we decided to give The Bay Horse chippy tea deal a whirl (only available Fridays). Food was excellent, as was the service. However the 4 of us were horrified when we got the bill - £1 extra each for mushy peas & £1 extra each for gravy!!! Come on you guys, who on earth offers a chippy tea without mushy peas & who on earth would serve up a steak pudding without gravy?? Such a shame as the food was scrummy but not worth the extra few quid piled on to our bill for what are surely the basics of a ‘chippy tea’. Sorry to report, but we’ll be giving it a miss when we’re next in the area.

Called in on a Wintery Monday Afternoon for a spot of lunch with my Partner and our Friends, on entering we were surprised to see the place was a hive of activity a lot of people sat eating lunch, we were greeted immediately and shown to a lovely table near an open fire which very welcoming, we were informed that there would be a very slight delay due to volume of diners but were offered a drink which was brought immediatly to our table, our food order was taken just 10 minutes later, myself and Simon my partner ordered the Fish & Chips, Matt ordered the Chicken Sizzler and Julie had the Bay Burger, well what can i say, within 25 minutes our food was brought to the table with the sizzler living up to its name piping hot and taking centre stage, the food was wonderful, the Fish was excellent and was accompanied with Handcut chips and mushy peas, the Bay Burger was huge and came also with chips, salad and some wonderful onion rings, portion size was quite large and you certainly know you have had lunch, a little too large would be my only critique. We were offered deserts and Coffees, i had a lovely Latte and Matt had the Apple Pie, again really tasty. The Lady who served us was lovely and i have no hesitations in recommending The Bay Horse for great food and a warm friendly atmosphere.

We had originally intended stopping elsewhere but that was closed so decided to stop here, the very full car park initially made me wonder whether it was a good decision but when we got inside the place was basically empty bar one other couple and a man and dog who were obviously regulars and a couple of pool players - why all the cars I don't know, but maybe they should wonder if that is what might put people off stopping. Anyway, I am so glad we stopped, the food was delicious, service delightful and attentive and we had a really nice meal. It was Sunday just after lunchtime so I was surprised that there was no traditional sunday lunch on offer but the food we had was lovely. I had the steak and onion ciabatta roll with chips, salad and coleslaw, hubby had the steak and chicken sizzler which he chose with half and half (half chips half rice) both were really nice and we chose Apple pie and icecream for hubby, and with custard for myself, came hot (as it had just been homemade and just out of the oven) "could have been sweeter" said hubby but we both liked it all the same. The staff were attentive and came to ask if everything was all right, we had our order taken at the table and paid at the end, an amount that was reasonable for the food we had eaten. I would definitely go there again. Ten out of Ten for food and staff.

I don’t normally write reviews but felt after reading the reviews on here I had to. I’m shocked it has had so many 5* as in opinion it’s lucky to have 1. From the moment we walked in (no greeting) I knew we should have just walked straight out. Considering the website says newly refurbished, I was shocked (maybe 18 months ago). Plus I think they need to employ a cleaner as there are cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and dust on the windowsills. Anyway, we ordered our food. Starter was average with the side dressing of salad being out of date by a good week. The main wasn’t much better. I had the fish and chips and the wife had the burger. My mushy peas looked a week old, had better fish and chips from a chippy and my wife’s chips where undercooked and still raw. No one even came over to ask how our meal was which was no shock considering the poor quality of food. Upon paying I was expecting a smile and a “how was everything sir” hahaha got nothing but the bill placed in front of me and change placed in my palm. I’m still shocked this place has an excellent rating. Do yourself a favour and look else where if you’re wanting a good, fresh cooked meal.

Firstly me and my friend walked in and were seated, 10/15 minutes later someone came over to take our order, despite us not being given menus in the first place. Our food then took over an hour to arrive and when it did arrive it was average food. The table sat across from me and my friend were also very annoyed at the food, and how long it took to come, and they let the waiter know about this once he asked how everything was with their meals when they had finished. I think the waiter knew me and my friend would of had the same opinions that this table had, so he simply didn't even choose to ask us if everything had been okay with our meals at the end, he just chose to give us the bill. Will not be returning in the future.

We stopped for lunch at the start of our holidays and I can only say I am glad we did. This was by far the best homemade Steak Pie that I have ever tasted it was absolutely perfect.Service was prompt and polite surroundings were fine and we all really enjoyed the lunch. If you were looking for a fault the only down side was the cost - much higher than a normal pub lunch, that said - it really was worth the extra cost as it was delicious.

My mum, sister and I visited The Bay Horse yesterday and enjoyed a lovely lunch. I had read good reviews on here, and the on perusing the menu it seemed to serve the type of lunch we wanted. We all enjoyed hot ciabatta sandwiches with both skinny fries and chunky chips, which were served with salad (with a lovely dressing) and coleslaw. We also shared a bottle of chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Very nice homely pub, which was full of diners by the time we left. Will definitely visit again!

While it might have been quiet, we held out hope for this little pub. However, it wasn't 100% we found the manager rather rude, and while the food was nice, the tuna & cheese melt really needed cheese in order to live upto it's name, and the food was only just hot. I would visit again, it wouldn't however be my first choice.

Our family stopped here by chance for lunch soon after leaving the M6, after a long drive up from the south en route to a weekend in the Yorkshire Dales, and what an inspired decision this proved to be. The Bay Horse offered everything we'd hoped to find for our pub lunch: welcoming and attentive service from the two ladies running the pub; an attractive and extensive menu of home-cooked meals, and tremendous value at £11.95 for two courses (with the option of adding a dessert for another £1 ... although sadly we didn't have room for that); food well cooked and presented, served promptly; and an interesting choice of locally-brewed Thwaites draught beers, including an extraordinary coconut-flavoured brew called Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Altogether a great welcome to the region ... and after looking it up on TripAdvisor after returning home, I'm not at all surprised to find that the Bay Horse is so highly-rated by local folk and other customers.

Came for a Fathers Day meal. Stunning value for money. 2 courses for 12 quid and dessert an extra pound. Food - no complaints. Nachos to start with ... excellent salsa. If picky, a little more cheese and more evenly spread.Duck spring rolls and garlic mushrooms next. Both excellent.Black pudding salad went down well with daughter. I had fish and chips which had an excellent batter.Opted for sticky toffee pudding and syrup sponge, both with custard. Very tasty but the syrup pudding was thermo-nuclear in temperature. Overall a very enjoyable meal. Specials looked interesting too.Well worth a visit.

Passed this pub several times and commented how welcoming it looked. Called in on spec at lunchtime, staff very friendly and attentive. Took advantage of the two courses for £11.95, starters were great and my husband's main course fish and chips, I ordered cheese and onion pie, unfortunately this was mainly potato with a cheese topping, very disappointing. Mentioned to the staff that it was very bland, appreciated that once a pie is made there is little that can be done to rectify but do feel it could have been reflected in the bill or a the very least a complimentary coffee offered. Surely it is better to have customers leaving feeling satisfied rather than dissapointed. Too much competition in the RibbleValley valley for this.

We went to the Bay Horse on the 20/05/207 as a birthday treat for my daughter. There were four of us in the party me, my wife, my daughter and my son in law. This was the first time we had been to the Bay Horse but you can bet it won't be the last!! The staff were friendly from the start and we were seated promptly. The food I have got to say was first class everything was homemade which is a nice change these days. The steak pie was excellent and was told the bay burger was great( it looked huge!) my daughter said it was the best cheese pie she had tasted so full compliments to Ian the chef. We will certainly be recommending this place to all our family and friends. Helen, Peter and their family should be proud of the business they have built up and the staff they have, fab place!

Few tables reserved but please to say we were found a table straight away. Specials menu for Sunday , always like a Sunday roast, so job done. Food was served quickly and looked amazing, beef was lovely, veg very fresh and cooked spot on, Yorkshire pud too. We both thoroughly enjoy it, even managed a sweet. Beer garden available for the summer days. Would I go again , you bet I would. Can't wait. Well done all

Its obvious that this place is for locals has you step a foot in the door, but that did not stop the locals from being friendly. The bar staff being warm and welcoming and the meals from being hearty , hot and extremely good for money .. for example two large glasses of wine , a pint of larger , two starters and two main meals came to only £38 . We will be returning but next time with the family . Oh and another thing desserts are only £1 extra and that is just amazing if you ask me , next time i will give one a try .

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

Spent an evening here with some friends, staying elsewhere. First up, it's uphill, and I mean uphill, to get here but the views and the service were easily worth it. Kaitlyn (really hope I remembered this right) properly looked after us. Thank you.

Great food, great service, reasonably priced. Would recommend. I ordered the ox cheek pie and husband ordered the fish and chips which were both lovely, being really picky the mash were a bit on the dry side, but I would still recommend.

This was not our first visit to the Calf’s Head but it has to be the best meal we have ever had. It was a large family gathering and despite the size of the party the service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully not in the too distant future.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen
