The Battered Cod in Manchester

We first phoned for a takeaway here 2 weeks ago when our regular chippy was closed. We've been so happy, we're staying!They were immediately helpful & friendly on the phone, reassuring us that their chips are cooked separately in veggie-friendly oil (rare, but important as one of us is vegan). We phoned around 7.30 (having phoned 3 other unsuitable places before!) & they were due to close at 8.0 but were relaxed and happy to allow us time to get there.The chips were delicious, even towards the end of service. The fish batter (for the one of us that eats fish) was crunchy & tasty and the fish (huge haddock) was succulent. Mushy peas were lovely too. The cost was reasonable and the portions were generous.Our experience has been consistently good on 3 consecutive occasions, and we're staying!Highly recommended! Thanks!

Visité anoche como pedido para llevar. Pedí 2 pescados ligeramente rebozados con porciones separadas de patatas fritas, un pudín de bistec y guisantes blandos. El pescado estaba delicioso, no suele ser un amante de la masa, pero este era muy ligero y sabroso. Las patatas fritas estaban muy bien y los guisantes blandos también. Regresaré aquí. Sí, definitivamente.

A good value, family run cafe. Our family were fed and looked after for all day breakfasts during our stay in Northenden. They have a flexible approach to individual preferences on the plate! Thank you very much!

I visit often and I'm never disappointed. The addition of black pudding to the cooked breakfast is fantastic and always well cooked. You want a hangover cure or belly filler of a weekend (or weekday!) then go here, Simple as that.

Had an evening meal here yesterday and breakfast today, can't fault it. Generous portions served with a smile, wish I lived near enough to go every day..

Love this place, so much better, and cheaper, than anything else local. Always friendly and my son gets offered chips on a stick while we wait.

We eat breakfast in the good catch every weekend and always enjoy the experience. The lady owner is very pleasant and engaging making for a very pleasant atmosphere. The food is freshly cooked, high quality and very reasonably priced.

Visiting Manchester and happened upon this place. Good and cheap fish and chips. Cash only! Eat in or take out.

Almorcé aquí con amigos. Buena altura en pasta fue sugerida con mucha variedad de tamaños diferentes, pescado, etc. Pequeño, alegre y muy exigente en café con sillas de colores. La comida fue traído a la mesa y comimos con platos adecuados y cubiertos. La señora muy amable nos trajo la comida! Buena relación calidad-precio.

Visit this place often for breakfast at the weekends and it never fails to disappoint. Hearty sized fry up, well cooked and affordable. Staff are great too!

Recently changed from the battered cos, decided to give this a try for takeaway and was pleasantly surprised with the fresh chips, lovely tasty, quality mushy peas, gravy had a nice consistency and a real flavour to it, worth a visit, and opens beyond 2 o'clock which is great for a chip shop

Best fish and chips in Manchester, official ! Every time we pass through Northenden we call here, outstanding every time, thank you.

The chef (also, he told me, owner) went out of his way to come around to our table to be aggressive after I'd politely asked the waiter whether our food was on the grill yet. I'd asked as we had decided to leave if it hadn't been started but if it had, we would stay so as not to waste it. The chef came from behind the counter to shout at us, I'm not even exaggerating. I asked if he were the owner as I obviously wished to complain. He said he was. Really the most shocking attitude I have ever encountered as a customer and I'd suggest that if you can't handle the pressure of having around 5 customers waiting for breakfast, then perhaps you should have a career rethink.
