Found the Old Elm via the Good Beer Guide and rang them to confirm a slot for Sunday lunch. Not a problem with booking and they are also dog friendly too. We tried the Wye Valley HPA when we arrived it was in perfect condition. We had pre ordered our meat choices when we rang and our dinners came in around 10 mins. The food was excellent we had beef and lamb and there was loads together with loads of fresh veg. It was all round superb and great value. We finished off with a couple of puddings that were too superb. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

Never left a bad review before but thought I had to in this case- came to the elm with a group of my friends expecting to sit outside and have a nice break. One of my friends tried to open the umbrella (it was a very sunny day, also no sign to say don’t open!) followed by an immediate bang on the window, which startled those around us. The owner then came out and was rather rude, called us cheeky for wanting to sit and have a nice meal (that we never got to order) and told us it would be a good idea we should leave, we never even had the chance to sit down. Am disappointed by this experience as we have had good experiences previously.

Ate here with a large group of friends, the staff were great and really friendly and accommodating. They moved us outside as it was warm, good food and quick and really well priced. Would recommend

Great village pub with friendly staff and nice food. I go often and always enjoy the experience. Sunday lunch is fantastic but you need to book as it's nearly always full.

Today we have had a beautiful Sunday lunch here. A lovely restaurant and staff are so so friendly and best of all it is dog friendly! When they say dog friendly, they don’t just mean they tolerate them, they get fussed and they have their own menu. Our Sunday lunches were lovely, a good range of veg and a good amount of gravy and all at a reasonable price. Next time we are in the area, we will definitely visit again.

Went on Easter Sunday for evening dinner. We had booked as the pub can be (and was) very busy. We had a lovely roast dinner ( lamb and chicken) with six veg, Yorkshire pudding and lots of thick tasty gravy. Staff efficient and friendly. For those who are interested the pub is dog friendly.

Poor/very disappointing-wont visit again under this management unless major improvement! Such shame as our family try support local business in Churchdown!! Family been visiting the previously named Bat n Ball for decades n Old Elm pub pre-Covid and always lovely food/ambiance as was Thursday quiz nite with curry!! Has Old Elm been taken over recently? I am no hotel inspector……but entrance hall from car park dark/gloomy as was restaurant! Filthy carpet in entrance was very off putting! Asked waitress if one of ceiling lights could be on as so dark in restaurant on a sunny Sunday lunch could hardly see food-waitress said ceiling lights broken! ( So bad for visually impaired guests) Air con ceiling unit near our table stained with drinks/dirt! Disabled toilet/nappy changing area window/tile grout mouldy and part ceiling not painted-“weird stickers” on wall-not nice hygienic toilet facility for disabled or child nappy changing area:( My chair seat pads loose and trapped my finger!! Sunday roast lunch looked nice when arrived with lots meat/veg n potatoes etc but lamb fatty/didn’t taste like roast lamb and mint sauce tasted strange not like mint sauce-couldn’t taste difference between roast beef and roast lamb?? :( Didn’t bother have desert as put off by then! A friend went week before, ordered chilli con carne with rice and so dry couldn’t eat!! I rarely write negative reviews but had too this time!!

Was dreading this a bit after previous reviews. Not sure what happened there... my genuine experience was really positive. It's a bit run down in places and things like the laminated menus are a bit old-fashioned. We were there on a Friday night before Halloween. Lots of decs for the kids. Dinner by candlelight. Decent choices - including plenty of GF and veggie and vegan options. The food was good pub grub. I had a steak pie and chips £15 - really good chunks of beef, light pastry top, Al dente veggies, delicious thick cut chips in a lovely gravy. Kids loved their fish and fries. Friend had a vegan tart which she said was lovely. Good and reasonably priced kids puddings. I didn't have high hopes given the reviews but it was reasonably priced, hearty pub fare. Loads of games for the kids or for families to play together Staff were lovely - friendly, asked how our meals were several times, ordered promptly, answered gluten allergy questions and were helpful. Also played along with Halloween fun. There are far too many local pubs which have been turned into w@nky foodie venues selling pate on toast for £18 a pop and artisan bread for £8 a basket. They have their place and I'm a foodie so I love fine dining. But sometimes, you just want a bloody good pie And somewhere to let the kids be kids 👍👍👍

A return visit for us that was so utterly disappointing in so many ways. I shall start from the beginning: 1. The waitress wanted to take our drinks order before we had even sat down, I asked her to give us a few moments to get settled and lol at the menu. Said waitress then completely forgot about us until we flagged her down 20 mins later. 2. Our toddler daughter has severe food allergies. I’d read online that you can ask for the allergy binder to see what allergens are in each of the food items. We received this binder without fuss, and ordered her a children’s meal that was safe to eat. When it came time to order dessert, we asked the waitress (different lady who was now serving us) for the binder. She went away and came back a few minutes later and told us there was no such binder. We explained we had already looked through it for the main, so it absolutely does exist. She went away again and came back, saying her manager wouldn’t let us see the binder as the information is out of date. I was absolutely horrified. Our daughter had already eaten her main meal that we had ordered on the basis that the information in the binder was correct. FOOD ALLERGIES ARE NOT A JOKE!!! 3. After placing our food order, we waited an hour and 15 minutes for it to come. We had asked for our daughters meal to come first, as soon as it was ready. This didn’t happen, we had one very hangry toddler on our hands. There was no apology for the serious delay in our food being served. 4. My brother ordered a burger which was so overcooked and burnt, it was completely inedible, he managed to eat a quarter of it before giving up. He took it out of the bun and it was so black, it looked like a lump of coal. My mum ordered the pork roast, the meat was so fatty it made her feel ill, and put her off the rest of her meal. No one ever came over to us to check how our meal was. They also didn’t ask how it was when they came to take our plates. 5. When we asked for the bill, it was taken to the wrong table, who said it wasn’t their bill, but that they were ready to receive their bill. The server then went on to serve those customers, and never bothered to bring our bill. After dealing with the large party who wanted to split their bill about 10 ways, we eventually managed to flag the waiter down, who nonchalantly said ‘oh that’s whose bill it was’. We’d been waiting at least another 20 minutes. My family had travelled 2 hours to visit for lunch, to celebrate my birthday. The whole experience left me totally embarrassed that I’d picked such an awful place to take them and I couldn’t wait to leave. After this absolutely dire experience, we won’t be back.

When the owner (whom we’ll just call basil faulty, not to be rude just because it will sum him up). took over this place he made waves, it was a breath of fresh air for the village but over the years he seems to have lost interest in the villagers other than the usual bar flies that linger out the back swearing for the alcohol not the venue or the food. The food is no longer great and the staff have all lost their smiles. ‘They’ even seem to question the whole bar service at tables only thing as odd. While I’m on this, I walk into the bar stand and I’m told take a seat and someone will be over, take a seat and then wait aimlessly for someone to come and take my order then disappear for an age until they come back with drinks and to seek payment. We aren’t on the continent. It’s time to forget the whole Covid thing and go back to being a village pub. I’m stood there, don’t send me away as I won’t be back. Outside the children’s play equipment is broken with exposed nails everywhere. The garden, both front and back haven’t seen a strimmer or mower so far this summer with thistles and broken glass and rubbish littering the floor. The pub is tired and dirty with a gross red collapsing red chair in one of the toilets and mold on the wall, almost like the bat and ball was before it became the Elm I don’t write reviews and visit this place often to give it a second chance, it’s on its tenth now and I’m still left wanting. Please bring back the local pub that we once had, we deserve better. To the owner, I’ve said all this to you and I know that others have too, I feel it’s time to take note. I’ve been here tonight since 1630 it isn’t busy at all, and yet at 1800 I’m still waiting to be served. We won’t be back and I’ll tell who ever will listen how bad it’s got.

This place could be great, but every time we visit it is let down by poor service. On this occasion it was perhaps the worst, with the young waitress non-attentive, miserable and rude. Food was nice with large portions, old fashioned chips lovely. But having to get up to go to the bar for drinks as waitress never returned, never being asked if food was OK, or coming back to take desert order, led to us all leaving early to go to Tesco to get a cream cake.

Very disappointed! Food average and server extremely rude! Whatever happened to customer service! The young girl just plonked our plates down, didn’t check if everything was okay, and was generally unpleasant when we had to catch her attention to ask for anything. We entered the premises from the back car park entrance and noticed how scruffy it was with cigarette ends everywhere!

Came for a family friends catch up and their beer garden was the perfect place to do that! It was sunny and there was a great selection of tables in the sun so we could make the most of our British summer. The food was really nice pub grub along with great friendly service and a good selection of drinks to suit everyone. We were really looked after by all the staff but especially Dan the manager couldn't do enough for us. Will not hesitate to do another get together here again!

Love this pub! The food is always nice with big portions, good range of drink, the staff are friendly, especially Dan the manager is always greeting me with a big smile, and I can always get a table as they have such a huge pub garden with plenty of sunny tables to enjoy the weather (when we have it!). An absolute delight! A pub with a good family-friendly atmosphere and staff who were welcoming and pleasantly cheeky. We were served with a waitress by the name of Chloe who was a veritable whirlwind of efficiency and customer-first attitude and very much enjoyed the camaraderie displayed by the staff behind the bar. …highly recommended and will be back for more. My children also very much enjoyed the facilites out in the rear and loved the magic-barman who was full to cheeky comedic tricks to keep them smiling. One warning from my young daughter……if you try their burger with bacon you may never eat anywhere else👍

Visited on a Monday evening, was nice to find a place that serves food on a Monday as a lot places don’t nowadays. Hadn’t booked but were seated in good time and served at the table. Had the Monday special of a curry and a drink for £8.50. Very big portions and homemade curry was very tasty and very good Value for the price paid

Dreadful service and arrogance from the management. Refused to serve desserts after 8 :30 . Only interested in the quiz and not in the customers the owner was particularly rude will not be going back there again

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!! The food was perfectly fine except for the refusal to serve us dessert at 8:30 with no warning, because they were apparently too busy but found time to play the quiz that was being held! Staff and management were very rude and disrespectful and for an old dingy pub that serves average food it’s definitely not worth the disappointment!!

5 of us went for dinner yesterday after hearing that the food was very nice, we thought we’d try it and what a mistake that was, the food was as expected yet we were refused desert at 8:30pm even though the menu says food is served until 9pm, we had no prior warning to say this would be the case and according the the serving staff it was because they were too busy with the quiz! We asked to speak with the manager who told us they were completely out of deserts- HOW RIDICULOUS? The so called manager was playing the quiz also which is why our service was awful. Then when we spoke with him he was rude and ignorant, raising his voice and waving his hands around… We then spoke with the owner who was equally as rude and clearly had no customer service skills what so ever- when another customer agreed with what we were saying he upright told her not to bother coming back again.

After having had an operation on my face and not feeling my best I decided to go to have my dinner at the Old Elm. I have been there before on many occasions and in general the food was okay although far from perfect. I have had incidents in the past where some of the staff have been rude to me and at 7pm one Monday night when I had walked some distance to eat there was not greeted with 'Good Evening ' or even ' Hello ' but just ' The kitchen is closed... we have run out of food! ' When I said I had walked for 40 minutes was told by Dan the barman... " What do you want me to do, carry you home on my back?!" I have heard other people complain that he has been rude to them also. Tonight though, the 23rd June I was made to feel like I was in the way because it was their Quiz Night. Finally I did have a table for 1 and just had a small meal but behind me there were 3 couples dining and there was some unrest going on with raised voices as they were told at 8.45pm that they could not have any dessert because they had nothing left! Then the one barman ( I believe his name is Scott) was called and he sarcastically said to them when they reminded him that they should serve food until 9pm, " What do you want me to do, magic food up out of nowhere?!" They then asked for the Manager and I told them he was the owner - he took a very long time to come and then proceeded to argue with the customers in a very rude and aggressive manner. Only the 7 of us in the room so not a huge amount of witnesses to his awful behaviour. I actually decided to tell him that his staff member was VERY rude to those customers and he then turned on me... pointing a pen in my face and said very nastily " Have you paid your bill?" " Don't ever come back! " I told him not to point his pen in my face! He then said " Pay the bill and leave or just leave and I will pay your bill"... an extremely nasty egotistical piece of work with zero manners! Matt is his name and just because he owns the pub he thinks that it is okay to treat people like dirt! I have struggled anyway sometimes with dirty tables, caked on food from the previous diners, filthy chairs, the staining is beyond belief and have mentioned it several times but been told that they can do nothing.... actually they don't care! Most of the staff think it is okay to stand around gossiping at the bar when people want to pay their bill or order something else and I have literally had to put my hand up or even go up to the bar to get any attention from anyone. If you search these reviews you will see many many unhappy customers who have pointed out several awful things that have happened to them. Well I did pay for my meal today but only because I wouldn't want a single thing from Matt who needs to work on his ego and manners if he wants to continue to work in the hospitality industry with any success. I wasn't a valued customer as I am over 50, don't drink as I am usually driving and have a small appetite - he wants the big rowdy groups in there who drink a lot but at the end of the day it is just a pub! If you want really quality food and top customer service from every single member of staff go to Morans in the Bath Road in Cheltenham where they never fail to do their best at any time of the day and where the food really is freshly cooked. If I could give zero for The Old Elm I certainly would! I don't usually write reviews but I could not let this behaviour go...

Recommended to visit by friends positives : lovely staff team, all vigilant checking on customers, fantastic service. Great home cooked foods, delicious! Also such a nice touch that kitchen staff deliver food to table. Slight personal moan - husband would prefer choice of not having the gravy being poured over his chips with pie he had, would have preferred no gravy on those perfect chips, just on pie! Customer preference. Slight negatives: quite loud music when busy (would prefer music as background) with lots of people talking and the acoustics, think just a notch down would make such a difference. Also lighting seems overly bright with 6 big main lights on, especially with fairy lights and candles too; maybe you think it’s needed but softer bulbs in them or other think would make it much more ambient, less “ cafe like “ even for those just drinking - understand need for more maybe in bar but less so in larger main pub/ eating. Went to the Elm on Sunday with friends and kids for a Sunday drink , we went to the bar and was told to go outside and someone will come and take your order, which they did , when we required another order of drinks we went inside to order and again was told to go outside and someone would come and take our order ??? Waiting staff didnt come round and ask so we were forced to go inside to order! Again on the third order i had to go inside to try and order from the bar which was empty but again was told to go outside ???? The waitress came out to take the drinks order of 2 drinks , nearly 20 minutes later the drinks still hadnt arrived so i went inside to find out where they were and saw them sitting o. The bar ??? I said to the waitress "oh there they are , i may as well pay for them while im here" , and the bloke behind the bar jumps in with " NO , IVE TOLD YOU 3 TIMES WE'LL COME OUTSIDE !" , i replied to him, "there's 2 tables ,drinking, out the front , 1 table out the back and 2 eating in here , your hardly busy for the drinks to take 20mins to arrive !" ? For which his reply was " well if you dont , either, f*****g like it , or , dont like it go somewhere else "! ???????????? With this we left disgusted, and prior to this we as a family and friends ate and drank at the Elm quite often , as of Sunday we will never set foot anywhere near the place , apparently he is like this often ???? The Best and Worst forms of advertising for any establishment is word of mouth ! If this is his attitude to the people who pay his wages and keep the establishment afloat im surprised its still open !????Good luck if you set foot in the place , you run a gauntlet !!!!!

Firstly, the food we had was in the most part good. The waiters and waitresses were good and we have no complaints about them. We booked a table for 13 of us and we were asked to give our orders in beforehand, which is fine. We went to the pub a couple of days before our meal and gave in our orders. A young waiter then came and seen us to tell us that due to the menu changing, most of the starters we chose were not available. This is confusing as both the menu given to diners and the menu on their website have the starter choices. Anyway, we queried this and a more senior staff member came out to see us and told us he would honour our starter choices. Which we were grateful for, as without these starters, the choice is very limited. We arrived at the pub a few days later, with menus on the table (which was odd) and a waitress then came up and told us we had to amend our starter choices as some of the starters were unavailable. My wife queried this and explained that we were told that our choices would be honoured. My wife then went to see the owner, who was very rude and did not apologise for their mistake. My wife asked as they had made this mistake if he would make any concessions with the cost, as the starters available were very limited and more costly than our original choices, and to be frank, were inferior choices to our original choices. The owner told my wife there were to be no concessions and we could either accept this decision or leave the pub. As it was my mum's 75th birthday celebration, we had no choice but to stay. This family event was even more important as it was the first time the family had got together since my sister suddenly died aged 53 on May 15th. This whole episode and the owners attitude ruined our evening. If you are going to change your menus then do it, don't faff around and have menus with starters which are unavailable in your pub or on your website. Put a plan together and set a date for the change, don't remove items from the menu before it has changed. The food generally was good, the waiters were good, the pub is let down by poor management and a complete lack of communication.

Booked a table for early Sunday evening, although it was very quiet we waited almost an hour for our food. The burger was dry with almost no discernible cheese, the salmon tasted of mackerel which was also on the menu.

The staff are wonderful, always friendly and interested. Food, massive and gorgeous portions - had to ask for a smaller breakfast on my second day. Rooms are quality and comfy. The pub itself is quirky and fun, real heart of community but with a very welcoming atmosphere. Can't wait to be back , will aim for the wine and food tasting night next time!

Although the beer was air-conditioned the customers had to sweat it out. The atmosphere was great. My girlfriend and I ran a jazz club in the Mural Room on Wednesday evenings. It was a terrific pub back then 65 years ago

I was pleased to get a seat for the 1st England euro 2020 game vs Croatia. It wasn't the best angle but it was a good atmosphere with good social distancing and decent ale. Good service and will be back again to eat.

Visited this pub with my sister who had moved near there recently a fantastic steak pie wit real rump steak amazing gravy and lots of veg . They do a takeaway which will be very handy for my sister. Also a good library of books which can be swapped and lots of board games. Lovely landlord and staff

My absolute favourite is the 4 meat Sunday lunch which is huge and absolutely delicious....extra gravy....extra sauce nothing is to much trouble, and to top it off The house wine is fabulous! This pub / restaurant has amazing atmosphere, really attentive and great staff and the food can’t be faulted....:not often I can lavish such praise on a place!

Wife ordered 2 meals to be delivered and right on time which was a good start.The meals when unwrapped were generous to say the least and looked amazing. Needless to say the meals were as good as they looked and extremely good value for money. Will definitely be ordering again and look forward to visiting when lockdown ends

Went to the Old Elm Inn for the first time today after many recommendations & we weren't disappointed. Lovely, friendly staff & a gorgeous huge proper home cooked roast dinner. The owners & staff have obviously taken Covid restrictions very seriously as tables were spaced well unlike some other venues. Felt very assured that we were being looked after. Thank you very much!

I came here on a Sunday evening for the roast as a close friend recommended this place to us and it was amazing!! The food was perfect and tasted great! And the staff went above and beyond to help and serve us. They are very friendly and the portion size of the roast was massive and amazing value for money. We had Ross as our server and her was brilliant, a real asset to the company. The service was so quick as well, the food and the atmosphere was outstandingCannot wait to come back after lockdown, this place will be my new local ❤️

This week has been half term.... lots of depressing news with bad weather and lock downs. However, I have been to the Old Elm to eat 4 times this week with friends and family and I can say... (I) every time the food has been fantastic (sirloin steak was fantastic - steak pie always great, good flexibility to change the menu to fit the tastes of my fussy children !!); (ii) the service is great - particularly Sam; and (iii) great Covid safety measures. The Old Elm is a great asset to Churchdown. good food, great service.

Vine el martes por la noche con mi esposa a tomar una copa, fue bueno ver que había desinfectantes disponibles en todos los puntos de entrada, y un miembro joven del personal pidió nuestros datos de contacto para los registros de seguimiento. No estábamos planeando comer, pero notamos que tenían algunos especiales interesantes disponibles. Tuve las cuasilideas de Cajun, estaba muy bien presentado y tenía un buen toque de sabor. Nos sentimos bien atendidos por el personal y nos sirvieron en la mesa toda la noche. Esperamos volver pronto.

Reservamos una mesa a mitad de semana para aprovechar la oferta Out and About.Ambos pidieron bistec, pero Dios mío, eran horribles, muy masticables y las patatas fritas eran como bloques de patatas gigantes que no eran nada agradables. . . muy decepcionado, pero al menos no tuvimos que pagar todo o hubiéramos estado más enojados. .¡El mensaje es no pidas el bistec! !

Primera visita, a pesar de haber vivido en Churchdown durante 8 años, pero pensamos en intentarlo ya que la familia se quedaba y nos resultaba difícil encontrar un lugar que sirviera comida un domingo por la noche. Nos dieron un saludo muy amistoso al llegar y nos llevaron a una mesa limpia a cierta distancia de los clientes más cercanos. Nuestro pedido de bebidas se tomó con prontitud y las bebidas llegaron rápidamente. Del mismo modo la comida; mi primera opción de entrante no estaba disponible, así que me dieron la opción de elegir cualquier cosa en los otros menús. Cuando llegó la comida, muy caliente, las raciones eran muy generosas y absolutamente deliciosas. Mi hamburguesa era casera, carne de res muy magra, y ¡ay, las patatas fritas! Normalmente no soy un fanático de los chips, puedo tomarlos o dejarlos. Estos fueron sin duda los mejores que he probado en mi vida. Mi esposo tenía las 4 carnes asadas, y dijo que todo estaba realmente bueno. Nuestros invitados quedaron impresionados con el pescado que tenían: el filete de bacalao era enorme, con una masa muy ligera.El servicio fue atento en todo momento y no dudaría en recomendar este lugar. ¡Volveremos muy pronto!

Disfruté de un almuerzo aquí para celebrar el cumpleaños de un amigo. Puedo recomendar. Ambos nos decidimos por el sándwich de dedos de pescado y las patatas fritas. Las patatas fritas eran gruesas y caseras. La presentación fue tan buena como la cálida bienvenida y el servicio. Seguro impecable y bien organizado. Es bueno apoyar de nuevo a un pub local. Gracias. No creo que haya comido mal en el bar y lo he estado usando durante 20 años. El pastel de carne es maravilloso. Incluso tuve que comprar uno para llevárselo a un miembro de la familia cuando los visitamos, ya que habían disfrutado mucho la comida allí cuando nos visitaron.Como 'The Elm', el estilo es un poco diferente al de 'Bat and Ball', pero ciertamente es de muy buena calidad. El personal es excelente y muy servicial y amable. No soy un usuario de pub masivo, pero 'the Elm' es perfecto para lo que necesito.

Really great find thanks to trip advisor. First impression seemed like a chain pub, but it definitely isn’t. Really good homemade pub food, chunky chips perfect. Good atmosphere, and seemed to be a well loved local pub with dinning and cosy places. Also board games if you want to make a night of it

Everyone is allowed a opinion. The ‘yuk’ person needs to try this place again , I have been several times before and it’s far from ‘yuk’ .We went last weekend and it was ‘top’s’ brilliant lovely roast diner . No grumbles from us . Really quality and home made food .

Visité hoy por recomendación! El almuerzo asado fue atroz. Repollo azul? Cojeando cebollas fritas que no agregaron nada. ¡Queso de coliflor duro, sobre brócoli cocido! La carne de res y el cordero eran rebanadas gruesas de carne masticable sin sabor. ¿Y quién demonios deja la piel en las papas asadas? ? ? ? ¡La hamburguesa de mi hija estaba seca y había sido incinerada! Sinceramente asqueroso la peor comida que he comido 14 para un almuerzo asado wtf? ¡Nunca más volveré!

Tuvimos una fiesta de 7 y tuvimos que sentarnos en el bar ya que el restaurante estaba cerrado por una función. Así que estaba lleno y ruidoso.Tienen asientos en el bar que hacen que sea casi imposible llegar a él para hacer pedidos y obtener bebidas.Pero una vez que superamos ese obstáculo, la comida era muy buena. Teníamos pasteles de puerro y pollo, bistec y pescado y papas para niños. Todo muy bueno.No había una lista de vinos, por lo que ofrecían vinos por tipos, y Sauvignon resultó ser una fantástica Oyster Bay, ¿por qué no enumerar los vinos o ponerlos en una tabla por su nombre?Sin duda lo recomendaría, nos alojamos en el Holiday Inn y estaba a poca distancia en coche / taxi pero merece la pena.

15 of us for a birthday lunch. Food all arrived at same time. My steak pie very good, everyone else seemed happy enough. Staff all helpful and friendly. Excellent selection of beers.

Couldn't ask more from a village pub, everything you need every day of the week. Plenty of events ran on a weekly basis, atmosphere for a pub is second to none.

Have made a few visits now and have never had any complaints. The food is excellent especially the roast dinner, the staff friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great. Will be a regular from now on.

Popped in last week as my youngest sons team were the early kick off in Europe. Got a seat in front of a wonderful open fire,and had a cracking meal watching the match. Fully recommend the Freedom lager.

Booked a table for 13 family members 3 months in advance for a celebration. The reservation was checked a few weeks before and so we were very shocked to be told there was a function in the restaurant section and our table had not been reserved. We pulled tables together in the bar area which was very noisy and the elderly in particular found it impossible to hear with the background noise. The waitress went above and beyond to look after us and provide excellent table service. We had an enjoyable evening getting together as we live far apart from each other and do not get everyone together very often, the waitress was spectacular, it was a shame the evening was tainted with this complaint as we have met here for family meals before and been placed in the restaurant where it is quieter and a more relaxing evening. We will return for small social events, it is a nice place, but I will not book again when it is a large gathering.

Utterly fantastic village pub that has now become a personal favourite. Under the current landlord Matt, The Old Elm has gone from strength to strength. Having frequented many dodgy drinking establishments in the Gloucester area, I am always confident that I will have a wonderful time; whether having a meal (steak pie in particular), a quick drink up in the village with friends, or attending an event. Recently, the ‘Old Elm Dog Show’ was amazing, creating a brilliant atmosphere in the pub. The Elm has become the heartbeat of Churchdown!

What a great place! The food was superb and the ales on offer were excellent! Had a lovely time and finished off with a lovely glass of red.. the staff were very kind and genuine. I’ve recommended this to numerous friends and work colleagues who have loved it too.

Visited here a few times over the past year and is a great village pub with a great atmosphere. Music isnt loud at all and is what you would expect for a weekend night at a pub! The manager, landlord and bar staff are all very friendly and is an overall great pub! Is a must visit if in the Gloucestershire area

Great pub. Been regularly for the last few years since it became the Old Elm and its an absolute gem!! Matt the landlord has turned this place into something special. Food is great, good selection of ales, the bar staff are very friendly (Sam and Dan are fantastic). Went to my first curry and quiz night yesterday and had a great time. Had my 30th in there last year and can’t speak highly enough of everybody there!! Dog friendly as well which is great, my dog loves all the attention in there. The heartbeat of Churchdown nowadays!

A fantastic welcoming pub, in the heart of Churchdown. This is what the village has been crying out for, for years. Well done to Matt and his staff for being so welcoming and improving our options. Thursday night pub quiz a particular highlight!
