Coffee was far too sweet, obviously with added sugar so unsuitable if you prefer a bitter taste. Food was underwhelming and bland.

On a whim coming out of the farmshop we decided to pop in for a quick coffee. When we were sat out at our table, which was super quick, we decided a bite to eat as food being ordered looked fabulous as it was being served. We ordered a Bacon sandwich on granary and 2 poached eggs on granary. The service was extremely quick and found the staff attentative and polite. The sandwich was beautifully fresh and filled with thick slices of delicious bacon. The poached eggs....WOW ! 11/10. I know it's down to personal preferences but, AMAZING. Can only say firm white, the most delicious oozing, gooeyness bright yellow yolk on perfectly toasted bread. Butter was on the side if you choose not to have the butter and decorated with pea shoots and cherry tomato. Definitely will order again. The coffee, Latte and Americano was brought to us in minutes of ordering and piping hot. Can highly recommend The Barnyard, spotlessly clean and felt extremely Covid safe with their distancing, sanitising , QR check in etc. Don't walk past, see for yourselves. Biggest mistake is we've not been in before.

We have been to this cafe on several occasions and have always been happy with the food, drinks and service however, last time the scones were really crumbly and really dry and the coffee was cold. After doing our weekly shop we gave it another try this morning. We order 2 decaf coffees with milk on the side and scones. When it arrived the milk didn’t even colour the coffee so we asked for more milk. The scones were again cold dry and very crumbly and the butter supplied hardly covered one half. We both said the coffee tasted strange but thought they may have been using a different brand. On receiving the bill the milk had been charged as extra and when we queried this we were told we had been given oat milk as the waitress thought that’s was what we ordered! After speaking to the owner she did apologise and cancelled the bill but we will not be returning as some of the staff clearly do not understand customers requirements. On a final note some of the waitresses are disinfecting everything but we watched two separate staff clean the tables but not the chairs .

The food hall is a good place to shop as it has a range of foodstuff you don't normally see in supermarkets. It is pleasant after shopping to go and have a coffee/tea and something to eat. We have never had a full meal there though there is a comprehensive menu. The building is a little rural but this adds to its charm. Staff are friendly.

Stopped in for breakfast as traffic was bad. Ordered the Barnyard breakfast. Beans were cold, hash brown was soggy, mushrooms were old, sausage was burnt. The eggs were well cooked. Overall a pretty rubbish breakfast and clearly cooked by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. A real shame as it’s a lovely building and surrounding area.

Lovely surroundings and very nicely designed and furnished. Tea was very nice and high quality as was the coffee. Good staff all round. What let this place down for me was the food. I ordered a falafel sandwich with yoghurt dressing rocket and pepper. I was initially concerned about the amount of yoghurt dressing there might be but actually I thought there wasn't enough. The falafel was quite wet and more of a chickpea stew and coleslaw was trying to be too fancy and missed the mark a bit for me. (Small portions in general) Overall perfectly mediocre.

There were 5 of us in all. We had an excellent breakfast. Probably spent £8-9 per head including drinks. The cafe is actually in the grounds of a farm and the entrance is just on the Ongar side of the bridge that goes over the A12' Although it was well-directed on the Sat-nav, there is no sign at the entrance. You will see a sign for the cafe about 200 yards up the farm entrance.

We were visiting the Calcot Farm shop and had decided to lunch in their Barnyard Cafe and are delighted we did. What a find. A batch of freshly cooked cheese scones were just being put on the counter - they were awesome. The menu is vast you are totally spoilt for choice. We had their spicy parsnip soup with granary bread - stunning flavour. We will be sampling more from their menu a definite regular visit will be made.

Went for breakfast waited for the people in front to order their food, which was quite a long time. When I was served was told breakfast had finished and people in front were the last order. I was with my two small children and there was no one behind me. I understand there needs to be a cutoff but thought was harsh considering the wait. Not very friendly and left with my daughter crying

Started off in the Barnyard cafe for lunch. Staff friendly and efficient. Had a baked potato with Tuna Mayo; was very tasty & the skin nice & crispy. Pot of Earl Grey tea; stayed hot throughout my meal. Served in a nice white teapot as opposed to the usual silver leaking teapots you get elsewhere. Located right next door to the Calcott Hall Farm shop; one of my favourite places to shop for fresh veg, fish & lots of interesting jars of things to buy etc.. they also stock Bottles of Brentwood beer which is nice to buy as a present for someone. Go for lunch in the cafe then have a look round the farm shop. A very nice relaxing couple of hours. There's a play area for children right next to the cafe.

Visited for breakfast! English breakfast - cocktail size sausage, reheated bacon resulting in cardboard texture, shrivelled mushrooms, raw hash brown! Vine cherry tomatoes and poached egg were ok! Served with a slice of toast, a cube of butter so hard could not spread and no exaggeration 1/2 a teaspoon of tomato and half a teaspoon of brown sauce in individual pots! Eggs benedict served on toasted ciabatta I can only assume so old could not actually cut with the knife provided! Such a shame as has the potential to be so good with the local produce available and the setting!

I cannot knock this place as the breakfast was ok, but for the money I wanted more than ok. The sausages were not available on the day we went, so extra bacon was served in its place. I don't think it was the dry cure from the farm shop as it had the usual white residue of standard processed bacon and the reason for my comment of only OK. Seats darned uncomfortable but at least it wont keep you sitting there for to long.

Staff very rude. We arrived at 11.15am and were talking to friends. We then went to order our breakfast at 11.32am which our children were looking forward to. We were told that it was too late in a very abrupt manner. However I was informed that I could order lunch despite it clearly indicating on the menu that lunch doesn't start until 12pm ??? We left and went to Brentwood Kitchen where they were very accommodating and the food was lovely. Would highly recommend Brentwood Kitchen but definitely not The Barnyard Café.

Having looked on Trip Adviser, we chose this cafe to stop for breakfast on our journey up to Suffolk. We arrived just as they opened and, fancying a cooked breakfast, as there was no cooked menu on the wall we sat at a table where the menu was provided. Having made our choice we waited for one of the several young ladies chatting together to take our order. And we waited. And waited. We were the only customers, and by the time we had waited a quarter of an hour, and the staff were still just chatting together, we had had enough and got up to leave. When I mentioned it was because we had waited too long, I was told 'it's order at the counter'. As the menus were on the tables, and there was nothing to say it was only counter service, I asked how we were supposed to know that. 'It's how we work' was the reply. Having waited so long on our own with nothing said by the staff who were not otherwise engaged, we were too annoyed to start again, so we ate breakfast at a much less inviting roadside cafe a few miles away.

On a holiday in England, my husband and I met up with my mother, brother and sister-in-law to have breakfast at Calcott Hall Farm's Barnyard Cafe, near to Brentwood in Essex. It was very nice and modern inside and full of daylight which is nice as I like to see what I'm eating. We all ordered a traditional English breakfast, except for my mother who just wanted toast. We didn't have to wait too long for our breakfasts, although I was surprised that they were not all delivered at the same time. They forgot my mother's toast, so she received hers last of all. The breakfast was very good. I had asked for a latte coffee to be delivered at the same time as my breakfast, as the others all had their drinks delivered in advance. I like to drink whilst I am eating so asked for it to be brought at the same time as the food. However, they forgot. So, since the chairs were heavy to move and the cafe was quite crowded, I refrained from going up to the counter to ask for my coffee to be brought and I just kept looking their way, hoping the two girls who served us would remember. It didn't happen. So, after eating my breakfast, I did go to the counter and they gave me my latte. It was nice to have it afterwards, but I would have enjoyed it ,more if it had been delivered with my food as I had requested.

My wife and I often drink coffee in various Costas and enjoy them. We have decaf coffee and usually coconut milk latte. We went to the Costa in Shenfield and ordered the above. It was so weak it was like drinking hot milk. My wife complained and the server very kindly put an extra shot of coffee in each cup, but not much difference. £8 wasted.
