Decent boozer, close to Sydney Gardens, with choice of ales and ciders and some comfy furniture for those who prefer sofas as well as more conventional tables and chairs. Decorated with antique advertising posters.

A stone's-throw from Sydney Gdns & Holborn Museum is a quaint li'l pub with a cosy, "home"-ly feel, if a tad dark (decor in dark red). Has a decent pool table! Some great open-air outdoor seating in the rear (off-street). No immediate parking, but at the other end of the lane (outside the Pultrney Arms pub!) there are spaces along that road. Drink selection: pretty good. Service: friendly. Atmosphere: varies through the week & time of day, nothing bad, never "rowdy", can get a bit animated when busy,.. They have a big screen, too!!! ..and a "lounge" area, with sofas!! Overall, a comfy place for a pint, bar snacks, & a game of pool. No frills.

Stopped in with my family for a beer after the rugby. Wish we hadn't bothered. Filthy miserable pub, even more miserable landlord, he quite obviously detests children and made that quite apparent. Making snide remarks to my oblivious three year old daughter who had ever so slightly wronged him by standing in his way. Heaven forbid! Stayed for one drink and then left, wiping our feet on the way out.

Popped in here for a quick pint as I had a few minutes to kill before a meeting. But I never even made it to the bar. The landlord was drunk and in a foul mood, very rude, and some old gits who seem to be the landlord's friends were gathered around the pool table and so drunk, they were just entering the 'I'm invincible' stage of drunkenness and were challenging everyone to a fight.

Really enjoyed my Sunday roast in this local pub, today they had 3 meats plus all the usual additions and 7 veg to choose from including a really good cauliflower cheese, they carve the meats and you help yourself to everything else, you can even go up and help yourself to extra veg with no extra charge and all for £14.95 - with no extra charge for the more expensive meats! Friendly atmosphere and I will definitely be going back!

Such a lovely place to be. Felt so welcomed by the staff and also the various regular customers in the pub- had a lovely game of pool too on the pool table in the main room! Also enjoyed an Inch's cider, which many central bath pubs don't offer (they usually only offer thatchers gold or haze, which annoys me as we are still in Somerset in Bath!!!) All in all I loved it here, as much as if not more than I did when I visited a year or so back! 10/10 on atmosphere, kindness, hospitality, facilities... Now my favourite pub in Bath as of today❤️😊

Crikey, it's bad. Completely dead at 5pm on a Thursday (having just come from the Pulteney Arms down the road which was doing a roaring trade) with just a few silent saddos drowning their sorrows at the bar whilst staring at their screens. Even the barman was watching a film on his iPad when we came in! The whole place looks tired and smells damp and old and there was an almost comic leak coming from above the door in about five places. It's clear no investment has been made for many years. I can't believe pubs this bad still exist, especially in such a desirable location! One to avoid.

What a rush, my head feels light, and my hands heavy. Clearly this place has been designed by Jenny Prankster. Toppility turvy glasses and sofas with teeth marks in. I’m in for a treat. The curry club, wow wee. So spicy my bum burns thinking about it. But my god is it tasty. Like a sexy fire dancing on my tongue. The vibes here remind me of childhood, lots of men and lots of beer. Those were the days. Time hop! Bye bye Saxons, Bon voyage Romans. Hello Tony the bullet dodger. Why do they call him that? Dodges bullets doesn’t he. Quite the riot of a man. Promised he’d teach me the piccalo in exchange for me winning a game of pool. In conclusion, this pub reminds me of a dream I once had. Peter Kay was chasing me around a meadow with a pointy stick, trying to get me to shave his back. All in all 10/10.

I regularly visit The Barley Mow and enjoy their Sunday carvery. Usually greeted with a friendly atmosphere this last Sunday (3rd February) was very different. When we arrived at 2pm, a very drunk man was asleep on the bar and after an hour or so of napping, he woke and continued drinking. A short time later a physical altercation broke out between the sleepy man and another and it was very unpleasant to watch. The chef ran out of the kitchen to help break up the fight, along with another patron - while the barman just watched. Neither person involved in the fight was asked to leave, the sleeping man left of his own accord (now very very drunk) while the other was able to continue drinking. Why is behaviour like this acceptable at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon in what is supposedly a welcoming, family friendly pub? I was shocked that none of the pub staff took control of the situation or demonstrated that behaviour such as that wouldn't be tolerated. When we arrived at 2pm there was a young family enjoying a game of pool and I am just grateful that they had left by the time this ridiculous show occurred. Really let down by this pub and will think twice before visiting again.

Found the place by accident...Strange heavy atmoshere...and a odd smell...silent fertive customers who seems to resent our presence as if we had interupted something and stopped them in the middle of something else ...not a great experience...very grumpy landlord...I assume he was the landlord one never knows...says it's free house.. when it's a punch pub according to one bispeckled regular...who in his taciturn way had overheard our conversation...and told us in no uncertain terms that it's not a free house ...which is misleading...it's a old fashioned tied local pub nothing to recommend it

I took my family and in-laws to the Barley Mow for the Sunday Carvery (a bit nervous as I had many keen cooks including myself to impress), but happy to report that the WHOLE carvery was really excellent, and lots of it too! It's often the case with a Sunday carvery that veg and meat is a bit overcooked, small plates and so on - not so at The Barley. Their chef had obviously slow cooked the quality meat joints to perfection; the wide vegetable selection including swede, perfect red cabbage, cauli, parnips, carrots and more were also cooked deliciously and had lovely flavouring, plus fluffy & crispy roast potatoes and yorkshire pud - and all washed down with some good Ales and Wine with friendly & efficient service! For the amount we paid (£12.95 and £6.95 OAPs) with tons on the plate, who could ask for more?? Writing this has made me hungry! Needless to say, we're going back very soon.
