Came here for Sunday lunch, yesterday 5th May, and it was really lovely. My son in law had booked quite late so we were given the first 12 O'Clock slot, which was actually ok as the grandchildren eat early anyway. We were greeted by the very friendly landlady who showed us to our dog friendly table 😊 and she even brought treats for our pooch! The lunch was delicious. The roast beef cooked to our liking. The sticky toffee pudding was just fab! Lovely place, fab service, delish food! Would definitely recommend.

We hadn't booked and arrived at what was obviously a busy time when the landlady was juggling a number of customers - but she couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Lovely pub with lots of character but the land lady was very hostile which made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome throughout our time there. We were given a passive aggressive lecture about keeping control of our children before we had even sat down and there were multiple off hand comments that we hadn’t spent enough whilst we were there to cover the cost of opening the skittle alley. We had paid the hire charge, all ordered a meal for lunch and had a drink each!

We've frequented this pub for over five years. The chef is friendly and hospitable, but after numerous off-handed remarks from the Landlady, being humiliated for not having booked (even when the pub is empty) failing to order enough food to warrant our having a table and complaining about being busy or no-shows, we will no longer return. After a hard week of working we go to the pub to relax and wind down, but end up stressed when visiting this establishment. We regularly walk our dogs in the hills behind and we sometimes make a spur of the moment decision to eat and grab a drink for which we should not be made uncomfortable. There's a friendlier pub just a few yards down the road.

I came in soaking wet and cold and left with a smile. After getting caught in some showers after walking most of the day I really needed a drink. Some places would frown upon people tuning up like that however from the moment I walked in I felt better. The kind lady behind the bar was very understanding and made sure I had a seat and felt welcome. She was polite and friendly which goes a long way. The selection of drinks was great fairly vast. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming. August 9th. We'd originally planned to eat at the Salt Shack on Hayling Island, however the traffic getting onto Hayling put a spanner in Plan A. Arrived at approximately 13:45 & greeted by Lorraine who advised us that she was working solo & as such, asking for patience re speed of service 😊👍. We opted to sit outside in the picturesque garden with my 2 dogs. Food quickly chosen, ordered & arrived no more than 10 minutes later, with the dogs also treated to a snackeroo of turkey 😊👍. It's good to observe at 1st hand that this ' traditional ' pub is popular . In my mind ( & this is an observation, not a criticism), the pub has huge potential to be even better..👍👍

I was with the party of 8 who arrived after our walk on a hot summer's day to just have a quick drink. Sue G is absolutely right. The Landlady was appalling, so hostile towards us. 8 of us wanted to stop for a drink, 4 left immediately when she started ranting at us for just turning up without booking. Most pubs won't accept cash but presenting a card was wrong so we were lectured on what it costs her to process a card payment. We didn't mind waiting to be served but we felt we were an imposition and an inconvenience to her. We certainly weren't welcome to eat there and had I not already ordered my drink (with lecture being given at the same time as to how inconsiderate we had been not to book in advance) I would have walked out too. The place was empty, plenty of tables inside as well as outside. If a pub can't cope with people just turning up for a quick drink then what is it's purpose? So many better places to visit close by.

Visited after a walk hoping for a drink. Very unhospitable welcome causing half the group to leave with out a drink. Informed the pub was very busy and so we would not be able to sit inside or have hot drinks. While there were some diners the bar was empty with no other customers waiting service and there were plenty of empty seats. Although we wanted to sit in the garden anyway this was not welcoming. We were also informed booking was required at this pub for groups to attend for a drink. Obviously impossible to do this when out for a walk or cycle ride as you do not know what time you will arrive or how many people may want a drink. Also not sure how booking would have made it easier for landlady to serve us drinks. Best to avoid this pub for a group drink after walking or cycling in this lovely area Plenty of other welcoming pubs i near by

Visited on a Saturday night when they were extremely busy. This did not distract them from being warmly welcoming and dealing with our orders swiftly. The food was utterly superb. We only had two courses: fish and chips then dessert. The fish was unbelievably fresh, cooked to perfection in a wonderfully light batter. The fruit crumble received rave reviews and they offer a good selection of ice creams. We all had a lovely evening and were extremely impressed with the way the chef produced such high quality meals despite being so very busy. Very reasonable prices too. We had pre-booked a table for the family on Mother's Day. When we booked on the phone we were told we COULD pre-order if we wanted to. This was definately framed as optional NOT a requirement. When we arrived we were greeted by a very rude, aggressive person who told us that as we had not pre-ordered (despite having booked a table) they would "do their best to accommodate us". I am surprised that if it was that important to pre-order that no-one called to confirm. This person asked us repeatedly when the rest of our party would arrive, they were 8 minutes late and we were easily finished 30 mins before we needed to vacate the table. We asked for water for the table, the same person then told us that they would only provide glasses for people who were "definately going to actually drink water" because they would run out of glasses. This person has clearly never had any customer service training, they were aggressive, rude and clearly extremely stressed. They ran around the restaurant talking at customers in a raised voice and generally making a vary nasty atmosphere. I understand that it was probably a busier day for them but if you can't handle 120 covers for lunch then don't book in that many. They completely ruined what was otherwise a very pleasant family lunch. The food was good and the serving staff were lovely and clearly mortified by the behaviour of this person. It comes to something when the teenage staff are embarrassed by the managers poor service. Overall I would say if you can go for a meal there when this person is not there it might be worth a shot, otherwise I would avoid.

Very friendly village shop. Operates as a mini market and cafe. Enjoyed my takeaway cup of tea!

Good Choice of food which was tasty! I was Disappointed that the "Only" fish (& chips) that was available was Cod; as this place came up as a "fish & chips" restaurant in Google Maps! I had the Thick Nutella Milk Shake. It was Delicious!! Friendly Staff. Was busy for a Tuesday afternoon!
