We’ve eaten at the Barley a few times and always have the best experience. Food is amazing, service is always outstanding and such a great atmosphere. We went for a family birthday meal yesterday evening and was another fantastic evening. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and shoutout to Nad as nothing was too much trouble - moving us to a different table so we had better space for a pram, always checking if we needed anything else..thank you for being a great host even when it was so busy! When we were first arrived we were greeted by a young man on the bar (didn’t get his name) but just wanted to mention how great his customer service was..warm welcome, got us drinks at our table straight away and sorted us with a high chair and colouring straight away for our toddler! Thank you for a great evening and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great local place to eat out.

Visited on Friday with my sister for the first time. Looked after by a very attentive Nao. Gorgeous tasty food, large portions. Very good idea with the doggy bags. Just disappointed that there wasn't much vegetarian choice.

I honestly love this place. We have eaten here multiple times. So when it came to our wedding we thought The Barley would be perfect. We hired the marquee and the outside bar. We initially wanted a hog roast and got persuaded to do the hot meats at night which in all honesty was a complete waste of money. The venue is amazing. Decorated beautifully. Day buffet amazing. You will need to pay extra for the heater though even after £6500 your guests will be cold. Evening buffet was a shit show. I asked for it to be out at 7 due to having an early reception. To be told No. It comes out at 8. (It didn't) By 9pm it was gone. When you pay for 130 evening guests to eat at £13.95 a head and only 10 did its disgraceful. For my guests to be stood in a que to get food and it be taken away because the chef wants to go home and wants everything cleaned and packed away is beyond a joke. So they made a killing that night never mind they had to keep the outside bar open which we said from the beginning. Can you cater for this amount to be told yes and it didn't happen it was very disappointing. We used to go 2 to 3 times a month. After our wedding we haven't been back which is very upsetting. I absolutly loved the place before, now not so much. Yes the food is amazing which is why I booked it, but to not even get food on your wedding night is a joke.

Booked weeks in advance for tonight’s birthday meal. Called more than once this week to make sure we would be able to have the seafood platter. Got promised that it does not run out or we wouldn’t have to pre order this for them to reserve one. To arrive at 6:00 to be told they are not available. We did ask them to call us if this would be the case if possible.

Really good service and food would visit again.

This establishment is absolutely spot on. It's spotlessly clean with great friendly staff and locals. There's a very good selection of beers, lagers, and ciders. I had Guinness, which was liquid silk. I honestly can't think of enough superlatives to describe the food. We'll done Adam and the rest of the team.

Food was lovely and staff friendly . My only complaint is that they was not very amenable when it came to the menu. We asked if we could exchange the chips for mash pototoe with our chosen dish and told NO we couldn’t alter the dish in any way. So we had to order a separate portion of mash potatoe at extra cost obviously.😡 Then asked to add onion onto the burger and again told No because it doesn’t come with onion and we carnt alter or add anything. Not like we was asking for much , a couple of slices of onion . Really 😡 Another asked if we cud have pulled pork on a bread cake instead of a burger. Which they did serve on the menu but again told NO because that wasn’t the dish on the menu and if they wanted the pulled pork they wud have to have it as it was served and not on a bread cake. Don’t get me wrong the food was all delicious but if u have someone who is a little fussy with there food this is not the place for you. They were not helpful at all in finding something that they could eat. It really wouldn’t have been a big thing to slightly alter things, we wasn’t asking for a big change . Instead of making it a nice experience, they just made things awkward.

Myself and my wife wanted to treat ourselves and eat our for breakfast and on 29/8/24 arrived at 9AM which is the advertised opening time. Upon arrival we where told as we where been taken to our seats that the chef had no turned up at this point and it was almost made a joke of by the host. No ETA was given for the chef’s arrival either and with that in mind we would have expected that a chef who worked in a restaurant that opened at 9AM to have been present much earlier to prepare everything in advance ready for that day. We decided to leave and went elsewhere but myself and my wife where very disappointed and would seriously have to think about if we ever come back as we travelled specifically to eat there and nothing was posted on any of the socials to state there would be a delay on that day.

The chef and food are brilliant. However the whole establishment is let down by one team member, who is very unhelpful and quite frankly rude.

Really nice food, always busy when I have been in, so definitely book in advance. A little expensive.

Had a gorgeous meal here last night, the place is clean and well thought out and the service was first class ! The food was delicious and portions were plentiful. Highly recommend! We will be returning again!! Thankyou for a lovely evening.

This was our second time visiting The Barley and yet again the food was amazing! We shared a Chicken Shish and the Lamb Chops as we couldn't decide and both were absolutely beaut! Staff were really friendly and atmosphere is great would highly recommend!!

Sunday lunch awful, unless you like frozen veg etc, Yorkshire pudding just full of fresh air, chicken you can not cut with a knife, sorry not at all good & was so looking forward to going, my husband had pie well what can I say besides shop bought 🤮

Food took a long time to come, although they were busy for a Thursday evening. It was what we ordered but a little disappointing. My pork was ver nice but the noodles were very wet and made the pork soggy. The crispy chicken salad had too many croutons and not enough chicken and the paella was also very runny.

Listen this is the nicest restaurant in the area fantastic food ,great atmosphere, the only drawback which frustrates me to put on here because we have most of our birthdays and anniversary meals here and I tell everyone I know to try the food out because it's awesome, we've known Sam for years ,it's just the table service that could do with a little brush up imho we have to wait a little too long , but that's really nit picking because we keep heading back because the food is bloody brilliant, I hope this review is taken in the correct way as its intended and no way is it a dig whatsoever.

Attended a wedding on Saturday and have to say it was brilliant. Great service from the staff assigned. Want to give a big shout out to Nads who always puts the graft in to ensure people are having a great time!

Went to a wedding held here and the guests were treated like second class citizens. Told they couldn't use the indoor loos, then when some guests tried to order food (because the buffet was terrible, bland with soggy quiche and very meagre certainly not enough to cater for the amount of people attending and what was ordered and paid for) they were told that they couldn't. Actual staff in the marquee were lovely.

My husband and I decided to try this bar after recommendations from a friend. It did not disappoint, although a little pricey it was definitely worth it. The staff were friendly and the place was welcoming. I started with the pulled pork soft tacos. They were so flavoursome, wish I'd ordered more! I then had the marinated chicken burger, which again was full of flavour, and the homemade chips were beautiful. My husband ordered the mixed grill, and OMG, it was massive. It came out on a butchers block. My husband actually struggled with it, but everything he did manage to eat he said was amazing.

Came here for a wedding yesterday and what a wonderful day. Shout out to Nad for sorting it. Always goes above and beyond to ensure guests are looked after. Not sure if they Taylor’s must have been at a different wedding as the food was delicious and sufficient. The only issue I would say is that people were piling their plates too high and unfortunately I was seeing a lot of it wasted. The venue is gorgeous and all of the staff were going above and beyond to cater for everyone’s needs at the wedding. Slight misunderstanding at the main bar inside but once explained properly everything was fine. Yet again thank you Nad for making my sister in law’s wedding day rather special !

Every time we come the food is absolutely stunning. Our server Nad is so lovely and always very helpful.

We went here for a wedding, so we were in the marquee, key points about our visit: The bar staff in the marquee were lovely and helpful The bar staff in the pub were rude and not helpful at all, given that the wedding party was there from 3pm until early hours they said they wouldn't to do any other food than the buffet, not even a bowl of chips to eat on the benches outside A number of guests were told they couldn't use the indoor toilets and had to walk past the pub to the outdoor block The buffet was dire, quiche was the worst we have ever tasted, the sandwiches were just bland and flavourless (single slice of think ham, what seems to be tuna but didn't taste of anything, and pre granted plastic cheese mixed with mayonnaise), there were no serving implements so bowls of lukewarm chips (that tasted like the ones you got for school dinners) were served up by grabbing a handful straight out of the bowl, and there was nowhere near enough food for the number of people catered for, the buffet was literally empty within half an hour (except for the quiche which people did not want to eat) The place is completely inaccessible for anyone in a wheelchair four or five steps down to the marquee, a step up into the marquee, if you need the loo it's 2 steps up to the outdoor block. The locals obviously don't like wedding parties as a few of them were downright rude to members of the party and expected to be served before them when they first arrived and went into the pub. I'm sure if you were to go to the Barley for a meal in the restaurant the food may be nice and the staff would be friendly, but I won't be finding out.

Brilliant place hid away. Nad served us and he was absolutely incredible. The food was exactly what we wanted and comforting as you need. Would recommend without doubt.

Visited Monday evening. It was busy but good atmosphere. Very friendly staff and quick to serve as well. Had the lamb chops. Really tasty. My husband had the seafood paella and that was lovely too. Will definitely be back. Reasonable prices too.

Went for a meal for my dad's birthday. Majority of the food was really nice. The staff were very friendly but maybe a bit inexperienced? It was quite busy though. Overall an enjoyable meal and would recommend/visit again.

I had slow cooked beef brisket, amazing and would recommend to everyone to try My friends had the chicken shish kebabs which I also tried, again, great! Disappointing Visit to The Barley My recent visit to The Barley - Bar & Restaurant was a frustrating experience. Despite initially being told they were fully booked, we were eventually allowed to eat outside. However, attentive service was sorely lacking throughout the evening. Our food order was delivered to the wrong table, and the steak arrived overcooked. No staff inquired about our satisfaction until we flagged down a waiter. Additionally, a sauce we ordered was initially omitted and then added with a surprising bill adjustment request, despite being part of the original order. The mixed grill (£40) and other mains (£10-£15 each) were underwhelming, and the overall cost for two people (£100+) felt excessive considering the quality. A meager £20 discount was offered as an apology, which seemed insufficient given the numerous shortcomings. The pub's online presence creates a more enticing atmosphere than the reality we experienced. While the waiter seemed apologetic, the limited managerial response left a negative impression. In summary, I cannot recommend The Barley based on this experience. The inattentive service, overcooked food, and questionable pricing detracted significantly from the overall dining experience.

Fabulous breakfast ,great service from Nad.lovely comfortable place, only gave 3 stars for atmospere as there were only one other couple in at time we visited would love to go back on a night for a meal .

Great little place. Met up with a friend and we had some light bites. Great food, great service, great selection. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Would recommend.

Just had a steak and donna kebab there nan bread was cold kebab was over cooked to the point it was dry and the donna was like rubber and chips were very greesy mentioned this on our way out all i got was sorry you didnt enjoy your meal bye it was like we have your money now so go iv eaten there a few times but the attitude of the staff has put me off

First time visit so glad we went. Not the cheapest in the area but that's a good thing as hopefully will keep certain clientele away 😉. We both had stake, 12o/z sirloin & 10o/z t-bone. Both were cooked to perfection. Will definitely be going again to try some of the other dosh6as they looked amazing 👏

Great pub stopover in our motorhome. We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely. Not a huge choice for veggies but we had the burger which was very nice! Our waiter was friendly and chatty. We had a quiet nights sleep in a secure parking area. We were even given keys to very nice loos to use overnight. Ring ahead to check availability (space and table) as they get busy, even midweek.

Couple of visits now and both do not dispapoint! Amazing sea food and service.

We were served by Nad tonight (08/06) and I have to say the food and service was amazing! It was out first time here for an 80th birthday and there was 8 of us. The service was still just as good and the food could not be faulted. We'll happily return.

I was so looking forward to a meal at the Barley. I heard nothing but good comments about the food . I went last Wednesday 29th of May with my wife and 6 friends. I decided to have the Paella which according to the menu consisted of mussels , prawns and 3 types of fish. The 3 prawns were lovely. The three types of fish were each about the size of 2 oxo cubes. There were 3 prawn shells and about 8 or 10 mussel shells on top of the dish. Having eaten the prawns and fish, I looked for the mussels but didn't find any . I would have complained but I'd eaten most of the meal and we were celebrating a friends birthday, I didn't want to cause a fuss . At over £ 19 this wasn't value for money. I can only think the mussels were taken out of their shells and were missed when plating up. I may go back and hope this was a one off. A big disappointment

I contacted 31.05.2024 at 8.55am to book a table for 10 people 02.06.24 (60th birthday) Adam was very polite and informed me that the largest table they did was for 8 people … I said fine that’s ok could you do me 2 tables for 5 people side by side ….. Adam agin politely informed me “No” as the two 5 tables were in separate rooms. basically you are declining and a accommodating a booking for 10 people at about a £650 income!! I said to Adam “so I should book elsewhere” his response …. “Sorry… Bye” You were highly recommended to me but you advised me to take my custom elsewhere??!! Extremely surprised and disappointed.

The food was really nice what let our visit down was the poor service. Was seated to a table and told they would come back for our drink choices, no one come back. Had to ask them to take our order after 20 mins still sat with no drinks. No one come To clear our plates had to go back Up to bar to ask for desserts. Enjoyed our food but don’t know if we would rush back based on the slow service a shame.

Do not even try this place. 1st choice, not available, 2nd choice not available, 3rd choice not available. Unless you want chips and a burger don’t go!!!!

IT was the first time we had been to The Barley. And it was great plenty to eat and drink. The food was great The service was excellent . Definitely going back.

My first time here and it was brilliant. Nad on the bar was so welcoming, very friendly and helpful. I chose 3 dishes from the small plates and they were NOT small but that is certainly not a bad thing. I love the small plate idea so you can have a few dishes as the menu is so good you can't make your mind up! Can't wait to come back for the Sunday roast :)

First visit to the Barley and wow, what a gem of a place it is. Food was excellent with service to match. Staff really friendly and helpful. Mixed grill was a beast of a plate full so make sure you're hungry if you order this. Everyone enjoyed the food enormously. My new go to place.

Fantastic meal in lovely surrounds. Only fault you don’t get a hand written / till bill, £15 for 3 drinks pint of Guiness £5.50, half of Madri £2.85 and an orange and lemonade £5.90. Orange and lemonade extortionate price for a soft drink.

The food here is amazing, tried a few different things now and they have all been gorgeous, the staff are great and the place is nice and relaxing, good choice of beers and hot drinks. All round a really nice eating experience.

Booked a table for 5 people and a dog 1 week ago for tonight This morning we were told that they can ony seat 4 people when accompanied by a dog. Poor customer experience. Won't be giving them another chance. With or without a dog

Been looking to visit this pub for months due to their social media piccies and uploads. Finally got round to going for my dad’s birthday this evening and wow! What an amazing homely pub, with proper home cooked meals. Mixed grill was amazing, half leg duck with Chinese noodles, beef brisket, all just phenomenal. Compliments to the chef!! The staff were fabulous too. Every waiter/waitress that came to the table was very friendly chatty, even helped with our choice of food because we were all so undecided. You’re all a credit to the restaurant. Thank you for a lovely meal, will 100% be visiting again.

Food was outstanding, fresh, amazingly cooked & plated beautifully. Hosts were so hospitable and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble for these guys even in a busy environment. Can't wait to go back.

1st time vist as it states in their menu food is cooked fresh so it is definitely worth the wait sat in the conservatory comfortable seating nice 0.0 lager on draft. Seafood paella Ham hock Kids sausage and chips Steak and donner kebab Homemade chips

Came here a couple of weeks ago and had a meal from the main menu which was really quite nice. Decided to return for Sunday lunch, unfortunately we were very disappointed. Meat was tough, the vegetables were really unpleasant, like the mix ones you get frozen. Stuffing balls clearly frozen ones and literally just a spoon of mash alongside red cabbage, it really was not nice at all. Yorkshire puddings were nice but that's as much as I can say. Such a shame but we definitely won't be returning for Sunday lunch again.

i asked for a children meal, i am an adult. i did this because i have a eating disorder and they said im not allowed. so i had to get chips which i didn’t want , we felt like walking out and we should of. the workers was rude and when we asked for stuff they came out 10 minutes after. 1/5

We visited at lunch time on 26th March for my birthday! My mum had the moroccan lamb, I had the mushroom risotto, my sister had the veggie burger and my little one had sausage and chips. We added some dirty fries on but definitely didn't need them, the portions were huge! Not complaining though as it all tasted amazing, we were so impressed! The waiters were lovely and could tell they enjoyed and cared about their job. Me and my partner are planning on booking the Marquee for our wedding and this visit solidified the fact we've made a good decision! Definitely will be back. Thank you! X

I brought my mum for lunch and I wasn’t disappointed great find. The lunch was amazing and you won’t go away hungry. Adam and his staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. An amazing pub it’s worth a visit. Thankyou again and I will be back.

Family Birthday get together (Lunchtime) Lovely warm Welcome on Arrival taken to our table where drinks were ordered and brought to us. Food arrived and it didn't disappoint,we ordered Chicken Shish,Barley Burger,Chicken Sandwich and a portion of skinny fries for the Grandaughter. Everything was Fresh beautifully cooked and presented not possible to complain about anything. Definitely our " New to go to Pub." Great Atmosphere Friendly Staff!
