Seafood platter was amazing. Excellent seafood and our main server was lovely and very helpful

Great atmosphere, kids entertainment for Easter, however the smell outside was awful, went as a family of 8, and sat outside to supervise kids, the drains need to be addressed asap! Food wise very expensive, a bowl of nachos £9, no extras, no guacamole or chillis, chips 4.95 , nothing special!! A pint of cider and a large wine £15, I think they are overpriced but a nice outside area for kids , minus the stink

Went Wednesday night, after waiting half an hour after being seated for someone to take our order, I went to the bar to order myself. We both had lamb chops , all I can say is worst meal I have had in a long time ! The chops were over cooked however, the fat in near the bone was not even rendered, and there was no taste to them at all. No staff came to ask if the meal was ok . We left most of the meal ,we couldn’t even eat the chips as the chops had been placed on top and had made them soggy . I thought this was supposed to be a cut above your usual pub grub but, even spoons turn out better at a far cheaper price .

I really like the Barley. It’s a perfect halfway meeting point for friends and I who travel in. The food is delightful as is the service. Special shout out to Angela who clearly loves what she does. A great host. Really friendly and professional. Highly recommend.

Compartimos un filete baguette con piel en papas fritas, ya que no teníamos suficiente hambre para uno cada uno y estaba delicioso. La camarera amable y servicial nos compró un plato extra sin duda La comida estaba caliente, abundante y sabroso. Muy buena relación calidad-precio. Los baños estaban impecables. Vale la pena el desvío de 5 minutos. Muy recomendable

My family and I visited for my mums birthday meal yesterday. The food was all delicious, and no complaints other than the chips being overdone on a couple dishes, which was rectified quickly. However, the service for drinks was slow and no one checked on us at any point. Our second round of drinks was completely forgotten and I had to go up and ask for them, in which one of the young servers sincerely apologised. It appears that the two young ladies working front of house were new and lacked supervision. Food was excellent but service needs improvement.

Had a lovely meal tonight, chicken shish kebab….highly recommend! Also 2 x ham & chips with egg & pineapple (the other 2 guests)! Fabulous service from Angela and Izzy, even checking if there was any honeycomb cheesecake…..to die for!!! Been her several times and have never been let down, will most definitely be back! Thankyou all

Had seafood tagliatelle as I had it before and it was amazing lots of different seafood food and the sauce was delicious. However this time there was only salmon and probably 3/4 large prawns, it was cooked in a creamy sauce which I didn’t really enjoy. Also the food in general needs to be hot not warm. I paid £20 for the tagliatelle which was overpriced and very disappointing.

El servicio fue insuperable, muy atento e incluso nos movió mesas para darnos más espacio, sin que ni siquiera pidiéramos. Mi amigo había pedido los panes calientes después de comer allí antes. Cuando llegó, ella amablemente señaló que le faltaba cierto pan que realmente le había gustado anteriormente, la comida se llevó y regresó con una explicación de por qué no se había servido en primer lugar, nada era demasiado problema. La comida que tuvimos fue de primera categoría, el brisket de carne era hermoso, el shish de pollo era increíble y el pastel muy bueno. La única crítica sería que los platos de pescado no son suficientes. 1 pieza de lubina y 1 pieza de salmón en otro plato no era sustancial, pero dondequiera que pida pescado, siempre se sirve pequeño. 2 piezas de pescado sería una porción mucho mejor. El personal era muy amable y se unió a nuestra broma, y no nos apresuró mientras resolvíamos la factura y esperamos taxis, a pesar de que éramos los últimos clientes en llegar. Definitivamente volveré, gracias por una comida encantadora y noche.

Food was ok I guess I had fish and chips , the chips were over done fish was ok . There were 2 large parties in so this may have contributed would like to try it again. I would have the steak next time👍

We went last night to for a family meal to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Wow the food is absolutely amazing. We all chose a different variety of meals but I chose the Sunday lunch and it was superb and the gravy was amazing. The staff are fantastic we were served by Nad he was excellent and really looked after us. My only complaint was the live singer Marcus. He was ok but he set up in the same area in which we were dining and literally minutes after we started eating he started to sing! It was far too loud and we literally couldn’t hear each other when we spoke he was asked several times to turn his volume down but he ignored the requests. After we finished our meal Nad suggested moving out of that room to another table. It was a good move as we then could have a conversation again. The music was still too loud but bare able. We then moved on to desserts and omg the cheesecake is to die for. If we hadn’t been given the choice to move we would have left which would’ve spoilt our evening. We will definitely be visiting again we love it at The Barley ( just not when live music in on 🥲)

Came for the quiz tonight, lovely greeting on arrival. The quiz host Nad was entertaining as ever and went round all the teams engaging with them, everyone appeared in great spirits, lots of laughs throughout the evening and the music choices were spot on. Staff and customers chatting with each other throughout the evening created a brilliant atmosphere.

We had a beautiful family meal tonight for my 50th Birthday. The food was amazing and our server today was called Katie and she was very friendly and helpful. We will be visiting again very soon.

First time here for our 1st Wedding Anniversary after hearing all good things and the food was lovely 😍, I was slightly disappointed when my seafood kebab came plain with no glaze as I've been healthy eating and loosing weight so felt like I'd ordered the Slimmers World option but it was well cooked and tasty 😊 I'm not a chip lover but they were home cooked and far to greasy for my taste anyway. My starter was amazing 👏 garlic mushrooms 🍄 on ciabatta was so tasty 😋 John had lamb kofta starter and chicken kebab main and loved every mouthful 😋 The service was really good, pleasant and friendly throughout and I felt guilty for my moan lol 😆 x Lovely place and so very different from how it used to be when I used to go to The Travellers years ago, unrecognisable. Lovely place ♥️

Went for breakfast. Bacon burnt, sausage poor meat. Mushrooms burnt to a crisp. Had a latte. Expected fresh coffee. Tasted nothing like real coffee. Suspect it was from a cheap coffee machine with artificial milk. Won’t be going for breakfast again

Pub itself is lovely as was the service but the breakfast was awful, worst I’ve ever had. Poached eggs hard in middle couldn’t cut thru cut the mushroom it was like a piece of rubber, sausage and bacon dry like they had been left out for hours. Just really dissapointing for the price.

Terrible Management, the owners are great but are not present, new chef terrible, the younger staff are amazing and have to take all the pain for the inadequacies of the current management, such a shame as was a great bar and restaurant, the last 9 staff to leave all cited one person as their reason to go, very sad. Update****** Spoke to you Adam over 10 days ago and the promised phone call regarding your investigation has never happened, I think you continually enforce my argument

Went for Sunday lunch, only had pork and turkey left so I said could I have a bit of both please, the unfriendly waitress said yes that’s fine, the food came but but I couldn’t see any veg and thought it must be coming in a separate dish, but no that was it, about a table spoonful of peas and carrots, apparently cauliflower can be purchased at an additional £4.50, when the bill came I’d been charged £4.00 for extra meat which didn’t ask for, I simply said could I have a bit of both, she knew what I meant but decided to not say anything, when I explained this to the unfriendly waitress she said we don’t do that, she could have told me as I was ordering, we’ve never been before and won’t be going again, I’m not to £4.00 but it’s the principal of been ripped off, the food was ok but no better than other local places for half the price

Just had a meal here. Wife ordered the pork cheeks, but she got beef. I had fish and chips, the fish was lovely the chips was scabby not there normal standard. Ended up being seated upstairs where you feel you've been forgotten about. Also the menu isn't what was last advertised, missing piggy burger, Chinese chicken curry and a few more dishes

Excellent food and pleasant surroundings, staff are attentive, friendly and polite. Highly recommend a visit, gets busy at peak times so booking usually required.

Average bar and restaurant pretending to be something special, which it isn't. You are completely ignored on entry before a stem "Have you got a booking?". Maybe try 'Welcome to the Barley', or even 'Hello, how are you?' We're then told the menu changes tomorrow so half the dishes are off while we get rid of what's left. I found the experience totally underwhelming and have had better experiences in Wetherspoon's. Won't be back.

Been here before and the foos was awesome but since the change in chef the foods gone downhill, the food this visit just taste like it had been warmed up and not fresh. The staff where lovely though

Great atmosphere, food and attentive service by Angela. I had the Mussels in sauce stater which was top notch. Restaurant facilities were spotless. Six people 8n our party and no complaints from anyone. Good parking and accessibility.

Visted yesterday for mum's pre-birthday lunch. Ordered 3 different meals, all large portions, was able to take home some of the chicken kebab, which was absolutely delicious 😋. Front of house staff were lovely, happy, polite and efficient. Just on downside, personally thought music was a bit loud side for chatting over our meal. But will be back again for the lovely food 💯

Our booking was for 3.30pm we didn’t get to order till after 4pm, half of the menu was not available. When it was served up one of the meals was wrong and it took 2 attempts to get it right. The plates were barely warm. The service was very slow. We have been here many times and had good food and service , I don’t think will be visiting again, all in all a very disappointing experience.

Brisket was never slow roasted you could not even cut it and the gravy on the lamb shank was very watery. All our loaded chips had been microwaved and where just a solid block could not eat as single chips

This was such an amazing pub, loved coming to events here and doing the Wednesday quiz , the bar staff are always friendly and the quiz host was always welcoming, and chatty. So when we saw the latest Facebook post saying “welcome our new quiz host, bringing fresh energy” we were shocked and then I found it laughable as I’ve seen more energy in nursing home… I’m sure the owners must have typed in quiz master on Temu and this is what they received. The quiz used to be humorous and people would get involved, with everyone lending a hand trying to pronounce the obscure wording of questions but now it’s just monotone and lackluster. Also the way the new manager spoke to the bar staff was unprofessional and rude. Not to mention being abrupt with customers over reserved seating. Such a shame

Just enjoyed another lunch at the Barley. First class service, great meal the slow cooked brisket is excellent. Good quality all round. If you haven't eaten here yet you need to try it out.

We visited here in December after seeing the Godzilla platter on Facebook and it was brilliant. We had starters, kids meals and the platter plenty of drinks food service was spot on. This then led us to return back for a birthday meal in January. Which was just after the week closure. On ordering we found all the big platters had been removed which was dis hearting at first as we travelled for them but we thought ok we will try the normal menu. We had the mussels to start and they were nice and creamy but full of large chunks of salt which just changed the whole taste. We had a kebab and salmon for main. The salmon was served with plain potatoes no seasoning, no sauce just a slab of samon with some plain boiled potatoes. For me this would stop us returning as it was basic pub food which we could just get down the road and would not have to travel to visit. However staff absolutely fantastic on every occasion always going above and beyond. But bring back your platters or something special because without that you risk just falling back to a basic pub food.

Called in for breakfast. Pub is nice inside but the carpark was a bit scruffy. Tea was served in a small cup 10 minutes before the food. The milk was in a little Jug. It was old and split in the tea. The breakfast sausage were awful and as I don't like cherry tomatoes or black pudding , this made my meal on the poor side. The bacon and toast was nice. Beans were mushy and served in a pan. Overall not the best meal and I am not a fussy eater. £22 in all.

We have been here before and booked again last weekend for a family birthday meal and was hugely disappointed. A new chef has recently been appointed which has not only led to a change in the menu but to a massive decline in the quality of the food. Certain items were not available, pasta included, which makes up a large proportion on the menu. We waited over an hour for our mains to arrive and there were only 3 tables occupied. When the meals did arrive, one was the wrong meal completely, another was cold and a 3rd was so overbooked that the burger was crispy. When the correct meal was brought out an element was missing. We have never sent food back before but did this time for one of them as it was cold. When it was returned the remaining items that should have been in the plate were there but the steak was cold. It wasn’t just our table, out of the 3 tables occupied, 1 returned both their meals and left paying only for their drinks, we were given a huge discount on our bill and left without ordering desserts and coffee and the 3rd table decided they weren’t going to order food after all having seen what was happening. It’s such same because the food there used to be exceptional but we won’t be returning and have advised friends and family not to either. We felt so sorry for the waiting staff, they were going backwards and forwards to the kitchen with food and having to take all the complaints from customers. We were told they had had 14 complaints over the previous 2 days. Simply not good enough.

Came here for my mother's birthday meal and she really loves this place and keeps recommending this to myself and others. There's a new chef now and the quality of food and options available are now nowhere near the standard they were previously. I had the lamb burger and riata which was dry and exceptionally burnt and leathery on the bottom. Led me to believe that this may have been warmed up due to contracting stomach cramps through the night. There was no pasta of any type available on the night which gives the impression that the chef can't make pasta or hasn't bought enough inventory. My father had to return his food back due to the chips being cold and when it was returned he also had the rest of the missing bits of the Surf and Turf added which were missing from the beginning. My partner ordered the jumbo beer battered haddock which wasn't jumbo by any means and didn't come with the tartare sauce despite saying so on the menu and had to ask for this. All in all the food was abysmal and nothing like the quality we had heard about before, and other parties behind us were also returning the food back due to being leathery and unable to eat it and this can only be put down to the new chef and lack of disregard to quality and safe food. The front of house staff however were fantastic and did everything in their power to make our stay as enjoyable and pleasant as possible and this review is in no way, shape or form a reflection of their efforts and hard work. They received 5 stars however the food (and subsequently the chef) received 1 star, less custom and recommendations from ourselves to other to avoid coming here for food in the future.

0-10 .....we Will never go again . Me and my wife Had our Christmas Dinner 2024. We arrived at 12:15 for our 12:30 booking. We was taken to our table and around and 14:00 was brought our starter STONE COLD only a SWIFT hour and a half wate from us sitting down.... it got to 15:00 we'd had enough we got up to go. Everyone that was sat upstairs had the same experience. Some didn't get anything.. For the price we paid £180. For us both it was Disgusting we should have had Preseco on arrival didn't even get that. Absolutely ruined our Christmas Day out. Please please don't waste your money just don't go........... I'll be telling everyone I know to stay away.

Second timing visiting and did not disappoint! Came for a Christmas meal with friends which was their first visit and we had the best evening. Atmosphere was great, the restaurant was nice and warm and was created straight away on arrival. The food was outstanding compliments to the chef please because all our meals we was own away with, would highly recommend the beef brisket or just anything that comes with the chips… they are home made and delicious! And the services 100/10! We was served by Ellie C, she listen and didn’t judge 😉 to our requests and went above and beyond. I wish she could have pulled up a seat and sat with us! Definitely will be returning thank you!

Bit of a random menu some like it some like smaller themed rather than random and volume. Simple things of the food are not at the same standard as the complicated parts of the plate which let's it down a little if the price was 20% cheaper I would expect it. Service was good bit of accommodation to guest types needs a tactic view over strategy especially if busy.

The food was fine, the service was awful. Nearly an hour wait for food then rushed to finish as the table was booked for another party after ours. We weren't late, the food was delayed, when this was pointed out, we were told very flippantly that we would have been informed we only had the table for 2 hours when we booked it. We weren't but then we also weren't informed our food would take an hour which was the actual reason we were rushed to leave the table. If this is the standard of customer service normally I have no idea how they're still open. Avoid at busy times as they clearly can't cope and take it out on their customers

The Barley is a real gem, hidden away off the road it has lovely outdoor seating for the summer & also serves some of the best pub grub you could wish for!. Staff are always welcoming & happy, great pub!!

Absolutely amazing place to visit. The staff are attentive and welcoming, the atmosphere is warm and homely, and the food...wow! The portion sizes are large and the food so tasty and amazing value for money. We expected finding a flaw but we really couldn't, hats off to all who work there, definately made it a place to go. Will definately be coming back.

We visited on Saturday and immediately booked again in a couple of weeks. The food is excellent, the portions are huge. I had the mixed grill and had to bring half of it home with me. The whole place is clean and tidy. Gets busy so I recommend booking in advance.

We’ve eaten at the Barley a few times and always have the best experience. Food is amazing, service is always outstanding and such a great atmosphere. We went for a family birthday meal yesterday evening and was another fantastic evening. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and shoutout to Nad as nothing was too much trouble - moving us to a different table so we had better space for a pram, always checking if we needed anything else..thank you for being a great host even when it was so busy! When we were first arrived we were greeted by a young man on the bar (didn’t get his name) but just wanted to mention how great his customer service was..warm welcome, got us drinks at our table straight away and sorted us with a high chair and colouring straight away for our toddler! Thank you for a great evening and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great local place to eat out.

Visited on Friday with my sister for the first time. Looked after by a very attentive Nao. Gorgeous tasty food, large portions. Very good idea with the doggy bags. Just disappointed that there wasn't much vegetarian choice.

I honestly love this place. We have eaten here multiple times. So when it came to our wedding we thought The Barley would be perfect. We hired the marquee and the outside bar. We initially wanted a hog roast and got persuaded to do the hot meats at night which in all honesty was a complete waste of money. The venue is amazing. Decorated beautifully. Day buffet amazing. You will need to pay extra for the heater though even after £6500 your guests will be cold. Evening buffet was a shit show. I asked for it to be out at 7 due to having an early reception. To be told No. It comes out at 8. (It didn't) By 9pm it was gone. When you pay for 130 evening guests to eat at £13.95 a head and only 10 did its disgraceful. For my guests to be stood in a que to get food and it be taken away because the chef wants to go home and wants everything cleaned and packed away is beyond a joke. So they made a killing that night never mind they had to keep the outside bar open which we said from the beginning. Can you cater for this amount to be told yes and it didn't happen it was very disappointing. We used to go 2 to 3 times a month. After our wedding we haven't been back which is very upsetting. I absolutly loved the place before, now not so much. Yes the food is amazing which is why I booked it, but to not even get food on your wedding night is a joke.

Booked weeks in advance for tonight’s birthday meal. Called more than once this week to make sure we would be able to have the seafood platter. Got promised that it does not run out or we wouldn’t have to pre order this for them to reserve one. To arrive at 6:00 to be told they are not available. We did ask them to call us if this would be the case if possible.

This establishment is absolutely spot on. It's spotlessly clean with great friendly staff and locals. There's a very good selection of beers, lagers, and ciders. I had Guinness, which was liquid silk. I honestly can't think of enough superlatives to describe the food. We'll done Adam and the rest of the team.

Food was lovely and staff friendly . My only complaint is that they was not very amenable when it came to the menu. We asked if we could exchange the chips for mash pototoe with our chosen dish and told NO we couldn’t alter the dish in any way. So we had to order a separate portion of mash potatoe at extra cost obviously.😡 Then asked to add onion onto the burger and again told No because it doesn’t come with onion and we carnt alter or add anything. Not like we was asking for much , a couple of slices of onion . Really 😡 Another asked if we cud have pulled pork on a bread cake instead of a burger. Which they did serve on the menu but again told NO because that wasn’t the dish on the menu and if they wanted the pulled pork they wud have to have it as it was served and not on a bread cake. Don’t get me wrong the food was all delicious but if u have someone who is a little fussy with there food this is not the place for you. They were not helpful at all in finding something that they could eat. It really wouldn’t have been a big thing to slightly alter things, we wasn’t asking for a big change . Instead of making it a nice experience, they just made things awkward.

Myself and my wife wanted to treat ourselves and eat our for breakfast and on 29/8/24 arrived at 9AM which is the advertised opening time. Upon arrival we where told as we where been taken to our seats that the chef had no turned up at this point and it was almost made a joke of by the host. No ETA was given for the chef’s arrival either and with that in mind we would have expected that a chef who worked in a restaurant that opened at 9AM to have been present much earlier to prepare everything in advance ready for that day. We decided to leave and went elsewhere but myself and my wife where very disappointed and would seriously have to think about if we ever come back as we travelled specifically to eat there and nothing was posted on any of the socials to state there would be a delay on that day.

The chef and food are brilliant. However the whole establishment is let down by one team member, who is very unhelpful and quite frankly rude.

Had a gorgeous meal here last night, the place is clean and well thought out and the service was first class ! The food was delicious and portions were plentiful. Highly recommend! We will be returning again!! Thankyou for a lovely evening.

This was our second time visiting The Barley and yet again the food was amazing! We shared a Chicken Shish and the Lamb Chops as we couldn't decide and both were absolutely beaut! Staff were really friendly and atmosphere is great would highly recommend!!
