Food had improved since last visit tasty and ample portion a little on the pricey side for pub food

Good food and it’s lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. Right by the river, popular place.

To be added to must-visit pubs while in Isle of Wight. Also, not everyday you get to be in a pub that looks like a museum! Maybe it's just my love for nautical stuff but I loved this place as soon as I stepped in. Gorgeous! Spacious place for families and small gatherings. Wonderful menu but make sure you check Today's Special Boards as well. Super generous portions and tasty food. Quick service and oh, definitely will be back again. P.s. I have not seen such wide variety of options for vegetarians and vegans in a long time (while having a meat at the pub).

I dream about the chilli con carne that had from here. I've tried to re-create it so many times but its never the same. If I lived nearer, I'd eat there every day.

Food was very average, I didn't like that you had to go up and order and pay for everything separately, took away the dining experience, otherwise was ok I guess

Every time I've been it's decent sized portions, nice service, nice food and fair price. Good spot alongside the medina.

Typical English pub. Has a ship kind of vibe. Good place for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with pub style drinking. Food is decent. Won’t call it out of this world. They have specials every day so might be worth ordering one of those dishes. Prices are reasonable and service is really fast. Seating is good and suitable for family, friends, couples or large groups. Have a full veggie and vegan section. Other meats include chicken, lamb, beef pork and fish.

Enjoyed a lovely Birthday lunch for my Mum here. Great food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Good price and large potions.

I love eating at The Bargeman's. The food is really good. I haven't had a disappointing meal in all the years I've been coming here ( about 15 years) It's great for couples, family gatherings, or meeting up with friends. Highly recommend.

Good food, large selection of ales, more than 40 wines from reasonably priced to top French vintages. Something for everyone.

You certainly get what you pay for, what we ate was certainly worth every penny. The food was excellent.

Top class pub in the centre of the town by the water. Can get crowded because most people know how good it is. Best nearest pub for the music festival goers

What a great place to go for a meal. Portion size was possibly too big, not something you normally say, but, well presented, fantastic tasty food. We will definitely be going back. 100% recommend this bar.

Been to this pub many times . Great range of real ales great atmosphere. The food is always good. Small parking area but there is a car park very close by so not really a problem Chris C

Lovely lunchtime atmosphere, great specials board ....throughly enjoyed our meals.

Quite a nice place. Food is ok and priced accordingly. Service is fairly good. There was a slight miscommunication when ordering at the bar but the waitress and kitchen staff were happy to correct after serving food. Generally it's a nice easy place to eat. Parking is limited but there is a short stay car park nearby which offers 1 hour for free.

Definitely get your money's worth. Ordered a starter the Mac and Chips and it was bigger than my main meal. Food was good and tasty and decent portion sizes. I had a meal from the specials boards which was very good but spicy

Food reasonably priced. Quite a lot of potato on fish pie fair amount of prawns but not much else fish wise.

FANTASTIC food and HUGE portions. Great value for money. Good range of real ales. Very authentic decor Staff very pleasant 😊 and efficient Tables make it a bit difficult to get past as close to ones neighbours table but that's the only niggle. Defo would recommend for any event

Have used for about 15 years every time we go over to island sometimes 3 times a year excellent food and portions.

A nice place to sit outside when the sun is out, just people watching whilst having a drink. Inside is dark style wooden, and the bar is made from the wood of the closed down prison! You need to book a table if going on a weekend evening, but you never get rushed off your table to get the next group in. You can eat and drink or just have a drink, a solid go to pub. There is limited parking next to The Bargemans but there is a car park nearby.

A lovely pub with great service. The main course food was delicious with generous portions at a great price. We were disappointed with the ice cream sundaes. The ice cream had little flavour (particularly the blueberry swirl and honeycomb) meaning 3 of us ended up leaving a lot (as the portions were big). I think you need to pick another ice-cream supplier

Didn't eat. Coffees & soft drinks for a meeting. Warm enough to sit outside. Always a good spot, by the river. Roadworks atm. next to the pub. Good..cuts down the usual traffic! Nice atmosphere inside & out, on a quiet weekday afternoon.

I stayed in Newport for five days and went to the Bargemans for most of my evening meals as I found that it was the best place to eat in Newport. Delicious food, particularly Pie of The Day. You could tell that the veg was fresh and generous portions. The service was excellent and although I was on my own I felt there was a nice relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely go there again when I next come over to stay.

First time here, came for lunch. Lovely grub, great service, relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely pub located next to the river. Lots of seating both inside and out. Orders are placed inside and despite it being fairly busy they were served in quick time. Fish finger sandwiches were delicious. Staff were very pleasant and added to the overall experience.

An atmospheric English pub with a marine theme

Great food, great drinks, lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, one of the waiters did serve me the wrong food (I will not name them for his own sake). I ordered the garlic chicken (which was very delicious), but I ended up with the barbecue chicken melt. I DO NOT enjoy gluten free food, and was very disappointed to find out that my order had been misplaced. 6/10, would like to know how the waiter misplaced my order. Thank you!

Had a nice meal with friends. Good service and atmosphere. Always a good sign when the first time you realise what the time is, is when they call last orders.

Only given 4 stars for food as I thought it was overpriced, and not many options for gluten free. I guess the price reflects the location. Would come again but not to eat.

Excellent traditional Riverside pub with good food, a great place to have breakfast.

The bargemans caters from individuals to very large groups. The food is served in a reasonable amount of time and to a high standard. The menu is quite comprehensive and caters for most people dietary preferences. The management and staff are hard-working and strive to make a positive experience for everyone. The bars are beautifully decked out with very interesting authentic items relaiting to the sea, charts, paintings ornaments, etc. There is a large bar area where children under the age of 14 can sit with adults. There is plenty of outside seeting, which is set by the river medina. Small amount of carparking, but there are plenty of carparks nearby.

Possibly the best pub on the island. Friendly, good food, great choice of ales, spacious, music some evenings, and I can see my boat from the place. What more could you want?

Went here while on holiday. The staff where super friendly and polite. The food was exceptional good. So good we went back the following night. Good selection of beverages. Only down side is the smokers and vapers all gather at the outside entrance making you have to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke and smelly vape clouds. On the second visit we did find a gate at the front. Defo recomend a visit here

Really nice meal and drink here the other night. Got there just after 6pm and got drinks from the bar. The pub very quickly filled with lots of people ordering food at the bar. We ordered off the app and the food arrived within 15 mins. Wonderful food, piping hot and attentive service clearing away plates etc afterwards. Very nice atmosphere and busy for a Thursday.

Terrible walked in tonight with our little one not greeted by any staff we were looking for a table asked a member of staff he pointed to a 6 seater table we didnt want to sit at a 6 seater table when there was only 3 of us so we found a 2 seater table with a highchair Instantly a young lady from the bar said your not allowed to sit at the bar with a child as its our policy we walked out and did not stay very unwelcoming staff could have found us a suitable table very bad organisation!

First time in IOW and have to say I would 100% come back here. The food and service was great.

We visit regularly on our Boat trips, the food and drinks choices are always varied and haven't ever had cause to complain! Today we were looked after by Rhianon who was wonderful and even gave us extra strawberries ! Thankyou for a wonderful afternoon!
