Friendly and welcoming and offering either a take away or sit down meal - there is seating both inside and out. The service is friendly and unhurried. The menu is small and selective with a range of jacket potatoes, salads and specials of the day. There are some delicious home made takes to follow. A great place for a light lunch.

The Barge in Bude is AMAZING! I stumbled across it when walking with my dog! It’s beautiful inside and out! I needed the toilet and the lovely guy that works there, offered to hold my dog for me whilst I went. He couldn’t have been more helpful, especially when I was trying to book a table for my family for late lunch. I had a lush cream tea sat outside on the picnic benches…with a beautiful setting by the canal and looking out to the beach and the sea! I read my book peacefully and it was lovely and tranquil! Great menu! I was very impressed! 5* from me and my dog! 😃

I have been to the barge many times. I like the location, the menu, the lovely resident dog and the prices. However I will not be returning !!!! On my last visit at lunchtime and meeting a friend for her birthday. we only wanted a snack.. On the menu next to each other was a teacake and crumpets. I ordered crumpets and my friend the teacakes. The server said that because it was after 11.30 I could not have crumpets but the teacakes my friend wanted was ok to order. I said that they were on the same menu, so please ask the chef to do the crumpets. She returned and said the chef would not do the crumpets at 11.30. I therefore had to sit and watch my friend eat whilst I had a cup of tea.. When I got home I phoned the barge and spoke to the owner. She said that staff were scared of the chef and did not want to upset her with the crumpets order. She did not offer me a complimentary snack or actually apologise for the awkward situation. Who is running this business ? The owner or the chef. As an employee the chef should do as she is told surely !!!! On principal I will not be visiting the barge again

I am a regular visitor to the Barge, which is delightfully situated on the canal which is popular with visitors, walkers and many locals. The fish and chip lunch is superb, fresh line caught fish from Bude bay by a local fisherman, when available, cooked on board and eaten fresh. Beautiful light batter and served with perfect chips that are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The flavourful coffee is roasted and sourced locally. Staff are friendly and helpful and know their menus very well. Come the colder days and the log burner in the corner sends out warmth and the wonderful smell of burning logs. It is dog friendly for well behaved pets and owners. Clean, quaint, friendly and welcoming. A wonderful place for lunch after a brisk walk along the canal to the lock gates and back.

What a delightful find. We are glad we walked by the other café'. A warm welcome given. A very comfy barge we sat at the front of the boat which I imagine would be even better in the warm non breezy days as the sides can be opened. The food and drink were very good. And they welcomed all ages. 3 young men visited for food and it was clear it was their first outing out without parents. It was a joy to watch and listen to them looking at the menu and totting up how much it costs. For a drink they said "water is free" so to bring the cost down they went for that option along with a breakfast. The lady serving was helpful and patient with them. It reminded us of times gone by when we took my younger brother-in-law out to a restaurant for the first time. Happy memories.

We visited the Barge on a wet and windy Saturday lunchtime. Feeling a bit miserable in the rain and seeking refuge, we rang the Barge to check if they took dogs and had a table free since it was the nearest cafe that was open. A very friendly voice said they'd have a table free in about 15mins so they'd reserve it for us. What a happy turn of events as this cafe is really lovely. The barge itself is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail, the staff are lovely and the food delicious. Tables were sanitised well, spaced apart and all covid precautions in place. Sadly we can't make this a regular lunchtime stop as we're on holiday (although that's probably a good thing for our waistlines, the cakes are irresistible!) but we'll definitely be back when we next visit Bude.

Stopped here for a coffee after walking up to compass point. We had a coffee and cake each. Very nice it was too. Service was very good and the view sitting on their benches was great. Did get a bit busy while we were there and there was a delay. But as they are serving from a window in a barge I thought they coped very well. The food I saw served up looked good. Will try next time. We were still content after our breakfast on this visit.

Our first stop on holiday was here and definitely worth it. Friendly staff. Outdoor seating looking over the beach. Our family of four ordered the breakfast ciabatta and a couple of bacon rolls. Very filling and set us up for the day.

Well, actually just go down a few steps into this wonderful place. A cafe on a barge, just lovely ! We were a group of 4 with three dogs between us and we were all made to feel very welcome. My husband was the only one to order a scone with his tea. That soon changed when it turned up, obviously home made, warm, and with ample jam and cream. Two more were promptly ordered, my husband doesn’t share !! The dogs were given a biscuit each too. All in all, a great experience.....thank you

We went for brunch - 3 wanting breakfasts and 1 wanting the lunch menu. We didn't realise that they don't serve both at the same time but the staff were lovely and we all managed to eat. It's lovely to be in a little barge on the canal and the food was really good. Definitely worth a visit - but quite small so I would imagine you would need to book in the summer.

Great setting and fab views of the canal and sands of Summerleaze. If you like being surrounded by water with its changing colour and nature, and being lulled by a gentle sway, this is the place to be! There is a wide range of cakes to tempt and vegetarian and vegan needs are well considered too. All tables have a great view and have interesting nautical maps of harbours and the like. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive to needs and happy to accommodate a request from two weak-tea drinkers to provide a single green tea bag with two cups and a pot of hot water, for which we were very grateful :) Dogs are well received and can enjoy the companionship of other doggie friends. Our (on loan) dog also welcomed the loving attention from a fellow visitor thinking back fondly to her own no-longer around labby. .

The Barge provides great food in a friendly atmosphere. There is a good menu and whilst when busy there is a wait, the food arrived hot and tasted great. Can recommend the fish and chips.

We visit the Barge quite regularly as it is comfortable and dog friendly. However on this occasion we were left extremely disappointed with the quality of food. After a 5 mile coastal walk we treated ourselves to lunch on the Barge. My husband ordered a chicken & garlic ciabatta roll which was ok but had more mayonnaise than chicken! I ordered a crab sandwich which I’d had on a previous occasion and enjoyed. Unfortunately what was served to me on this particular day was very poor. Thick margarine and an orange slushy paste, no sign of any white crab meat whatsoever. I returned this back to the waitress who informed me it was ‘50/50’. She returned the same plate/sandwich back to me, with a sprinkling of white crab meat inside (barely half a teaspoon) I’m not quite sure what was going on behind the scenes on this day but we certainly won’t eat at this establishment anymore. They charged me £9.00 for the poor excuse of a crab sandwich. With the beautiful local produce available in our county this establishment has a lot to learn!

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.

Haven't stayed, but excellent range of well-kept cask ales including normally a couple from Penzance Brewing Co in Crowlas, near Penzance.

What a gem! We had no idea where to go for lunch but chose the shed; a great choice! The steak was so good and the sole cooked to perfection. Great wine, appetisers and dessert to boot. Fantastic value and the service was great Thank you so much.
