The Banff Springs Hotel in Aberdeenshire

We had the most amazing afternoon tea experience in the Bubble. We can't praise the Banff Springs highly enough. This was a mini 'hen party ' and so much thought had gone into making this so special for the bride to be. Beautifully decorated, Beth and her team looked after us so well. The quality of the food and drinks was outstanding. A lovely afternoon was had by all. Highly recommend! A big thank you to all involved!

My wife and I had one night's stay on a stop over. The room had a lovely sea view and was cosy and warm on arrival. An unusual but very welcome thing these days. The room was very clean with tasteful and modern decor - as was the whole hotel. We had dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning. The quality of food was excellent and professionally presented. The staff were very friendly and efficient and made us feel very welcome. The overall cost of our stay was very reasonable and we would not hesitate to return. Highly recommended.

A fantastic festive lunch this year. Plentiful food and really delicious. The baked camembert was a popular starter too.

Turned up without a booking. They were happy to seat the three of us and provide a high chair. Excellent decor and very friendly helpful staff. Great choice of food and all we had was very tasty. Highly recommend.

I wanted to take my Aunties out for their lunch (one had just turned 91yrs young) I rang and asked for a window table in the bar. On arrival they explained that they had moved us to the restaurant, same menu available and given us the best table. The menu was plentiful, the service was excellent and the food (we chose from the light lunch options: sandwich, salad and crisps + a drink). The filling in the sandwich was not only very tasty but in abundance too Price was as expected and will definitely be going back

Just back from a great 2 day Hogmanay package @ the Banff Springs. 5 couples and what a fab time we had. The staff were amazing from housekeeping, reception, bar and waiting staff @ breakfast and evening and the super events team, all so friendly, fun and professional. ( hope I haven’t missed anyone out.) The food was also first class so hats off to the chef(s). Thank you Banff Springs for contributing to such a memorable festive party weekend.

Yippee, Banff springs hotel have updated their menu, similar to their pre Covid menu. Food now served in the restaurant only and the bar is exactly that, a bar. Food was superb, and once again the staff were outstanding, Beth the restaurant manager was very much in control and was her usual exceptional high standard. They also have a festive menu too. Our first night my partner had macaroni with bacon and I had a filet steak, both were delicious. Our second night we both had the trio of meats from their festive menu, once again it was truly delicious. Well done team, and thank you Springs for getting things back to how they were.

My husband and I have been going to the bar and restaurant for many years now. The hotel itself and staff are lovely and can’t fault the team at all. We had family up and as always as a goodbye meal we always take them to the springs as we call it. Now we had hear that there had been some changes but it didn’t put us off as it was one of our favourite places to eat. Well what can I say, it was appalling, to cut a long story short the food we ordered was freezing cold or undercooked, 5 times we had to send something back as it wasn’t good. Can I say I have never once had to complain about any meals we have had up until this point. The lass that was on that night I must admit she was very apologetic and we cam to an agreement that I would only pay for the drinks we had consumed as none of the food was eaten. Then just as we were going to leave we noticed one of the owners or the owner was seen talking to the young lady we had just dealt with, he was looking as us then just left. He didn’t have the decency to come and apologise or anything. This is the last time we will visit the hotel for a meal. Talking to some of the locals the following day and they also said they were none to pleased either, they said they have had many different chefs now and not even some of the locals are not happy. I’m very sad about this as it was always fantastic food. And the prices have shot up,£ 80 for a tomahawk steak 😱

We were looking forwards to dinner at the Banff Springs after visiting a few years ago. We had so high hopes as the cost had inflated so much since our last visit. So sad to say the Cullen Skink which could once be compared to the best was disappointing, I have done better at home. The wraps for the chicken fajita came out cold and the chicken wasn’t sizzling, as did the baked ! Camembert. Bruschetta was just sliced French stick…Which were all sent back….. The mains came out, cold broccoli, Luke warm cod and fish pie…. Asked to see chef to be told he was agency and didn’t want to speak to us. Asked to speak to the manager and the waitress said she was the duty manager, we agreed to pay for our drinks and left Hungry and dissatisfied …….

We booked a family evening meal here to complete our holiday in Banff. The food was excellent and the choice comprehensive. Yes it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Great views overlooking the sea and lovely surroundings. Service wasn't constantly checking on us, which we prefer (nothing worse than having to tell the waiter every five minutes that everything's okay). There was a delay between courses, but apologies were brought by the manager and free drinks offered - again we hadn't really noticed and it was nice to have a break between courses. We had three courses each (four adults) and a drink each - the bill was just shy of £200, but taste, quality and presentation couldn't be faulted. Worth a visit for that special meal.

Just returned from our third visit to the Banff Springs. The hotel is well decorated throughout and the rooms are lovely. No noise in the corridor at all. The food is excellent and the staff are all extremely attentive especially Beth and Laura. Amazing views especially at sunset. Great location with a large car park. We will be back to this great hotel.

Had lunches several occasions a few years ago. Dreamed of staying in the hotel for years. Booked a couple of nights with our greyhound, Molly On arrival, room was disappointment. Was described as best room in hotel. Extra charges because of this. OK! It was so dark had to have lights on all day. Brown wall, brown headboard. Brown wooden furniture throughout the room. Room was room 35, one of the 2 dog "friendly" rooms in the hotel. It was the only place in the whole hotel we could take our dog, through on alleyway to separate entrance to our room. Coffee machine in room. No instructions. Googled instructions. Still did not work. Took to reception next morning for examination. Returned to us 1600. Still did not work. That morning went for breakfast. Poor reception. They said we had not booked a time. When asked on checking in , I had said 0730-0800. Obviously had not registered. Even repeated second morning. Hassle from waiter who led us to a table saying "Follow me 'quickly ' ". There was no-one else there! Breakfast was slow , but basically ok, but minimal content. On the first night the TV was drowned out by noise coming from the bathroom. A fan had switched on outside the Window it went on and off. Sometimes at 4am. Could not close the window to reduce noise. Reported to reception. Nothing done to fix. We had intended to eat in the hotel, but menus had so little choice and were severely overpriced, we went elsewhere. Indian Garden and Galley Whitehills. So, you might appreciate why we will never be back to this place again.

Spent 4 days at this fab hotel .Newly refurbished and spotless. Hand sanitizer at the entrance We were bed and breakfast so didnt eat in the restaurant Breakfast was lovely and freshly made The smoked haddock was very nice but full Scottish available also Plenty places to eat or takeaway and lovely beaches all around . Visit the harbour at Portsoy where the last episode of peaky blinders was filmed. Cant wait to go back

What’s happened…? I’ve had countless lunches and dinners here. It was always good - with a fabulous and varied menu. I ignored reports that it’s not the same anymore. Sadly after a dinner here the reporters were correct. Hardly anyone else eating, limited menu, over priced, food not good enough. Baked Camembert - too much for one and accompanying bread hard and difficult to bite - resembled dry stale bread. Steak - over salted and medium to well done not medium rare as requested. Staff friendly but despite answering honestly when asked about our meal no reduction in price offered. I was asked if I’d like another steak - I was okay with the one I had - just very disappointing. Come on guys - you did it well before. You need to do better.

My partner and I were very disappointed with our meal, we booked dinner in the restaurant and despite them appearing not very busy we had a lengthy wait for our meal. The food really wasn’t up to scratch and was vastly overpriced. We last ate there in October 21 and had a great meal so was very surprised at how poor our meal was. The waiting staff were all lovely and attentive. Won’t be back in a hurry !

A nice hotel with lovely views of the ocean but a little bit remote. The staff were really friendly but were slow to serve at the bar and not very attentive in the restaurant at dinner. We didn’t have breakfast, we thought it was included in our rate but it wasn’t and we felt £12.95 pp, per day a bit excessive bearing in mind we were staying 5 nights. Not much room to store clothes, had to ask for extra hangers and bathrobe. Room was cleaned every day with fresh towels, water, tea & shortbread refreshed daily.

We were out for a family meal recently at the Banff Springs and were shocked by how quiet it was for a Sunday lunchtime. We soon realised why after reading thru the menu, the prices have vastly increased throughout the whole menu. We cannot fault the food but there was no atmosphere and the service could have been better considering the place was not even half full. It’s a shame but we will not be rushing back.

We go to the Banff Springs regularly. I was shocked at the price increases while there on Sunday, i.e. roast beef £26.95. While I appreciate the cost of supplies have increased I don’t think the price hikes can be justified. The food was good but certainly not worth the cost. Also all soft drinks were small bottles also vastly overpriced.

Dropped in for drinks and had an early dinner while here. Sat on the outside patio area, which just about overlooked the sea from our seat and was a nice setting. Service was a bit slow to be honest but the prices were reasonable. We booked for a meal for the restaurant reopening at 5pm and at quarter past, had to chase up a menu, which was pretty good but not as extensive as other establishments in the town. Our meals were good, Vegetarian Thai stir fry and Chicken Maryland while nice pudding to follow. The reception and toilets were very clean and the staff friendly. My only real gripe was the very slow service.

It was recommended by friends so my wife and I visited for lunch and though it was wonderful. Brilliant views and great selection on the menu and the staff were really friendly and polite we are sure to go back.

We were quickly welcomed and seated beside the window, our orders were quickly taken and served. A choice of more than one soup would have been appreciated, but we were satisfied with our meals. The servers were helpful and good at their jobs.

The Brie starters were first class but the haggis bonbons were tiny and over cooked. The main courses were not very exciting. Roast chicken was skinless chicken fillets and a bit dry. The fish and chips was the poorest of the mains, a little piece of fish and horrible skinny fries. Very disappointing.

To say it was disappointing would be an understatement, the food was very poor and certainly not what I expected of a 4 star hotel , ordered fish and chips no option on the fish breaded only so that made feel it was already bought in and not fresh, as it couldn’t be done in batter. When it arrived with a few thin chips which were obviously frozen out of a bag , it looked like something from school dinners many years ago, Nothing to accompany the fish and chips , no salad, no peas, nothing , the presentation was extremely poor.

We went here at 5pm on a Saturday night and we were almost the only ones there but before we left at 7pm the place was full which shows that the hotel must be very popular. The food and service was excellent just as it was when we visited earlier in the year. Will definitely return.

We booked a party of 12 for my parents 70th birthday. The hotel itself offers a warm welcome on what was a wet and windy evening. Service is very good with attentive friendly staff i particularly liked the option to pre order your choices from their extensive menu a few days prior to your booking online which allows time to choose and less of a wait once you arrive. Food was of a high standard and i believe all our party was delighted, however there was a dissapointing issue with the dishes containing laungoustine as the intestine had not been removed which makes them quite unpleasant to eat. One of our party returned his main course for this reason and although the food was removed from our bill and he was offered another choice, by this time his meal was ruined. Not realy acceptable from a hotel which boasts some fantastic local fish dishes on thier menu.

Great location for hotel staff very polite and helpful food fantastic had sea view which was great had everything you needed in room would for sure recommend this place.

Interesting history with impressive architecture. Room,however, shows its age and is overpriced. Very small bathroom in the suite we were in. Very noisy! Had trouble sleeping due to the noise from a wedding. Staff is very nice . The Willow Spa is under construction which we were informed of after our stone massages were booked. Massages were done in a converted guest room. The pool area is nice. We chose to shower in the spa area since our room bathroom was just too small! The 1888 Chop House was the Highlight of our stay . Get the Brant Lake Wagyu Fillet- WOW !

My friend and I were doing a NEOS road trip and made a beeline for lunch to the Banff Springs Hotel as we always had a good meal there. We decided to eat in the bar. We were greeted and shown to a table and given menus. Since we were also on our way to Portsoy for an ice cream we decided to have a light lunch. The waitress came over to take our order wearing a dirty skirt which could have been wiped clean. She asked if we were ready to order and we both said we couldn’t make our mind up. The waitress about turned and walked away, no words of “I’ll give you a few minutes”, nothing. We both looked at each other saying “how rude”. I ordered prawn Marie rose sandwiches on brown bread and a sharing portion of sweet potato fries. The sandwich was served with coleslaw which can only be said came straight from a catering box. The sandwich had so much butter spread on it I couldn’t taste the prawns. I had to separate the sandwich and remove the butter. I then found shell from prawns. The sandwich was not good and I ended up leaving half. This was a very disappointing visit and leaves me wondering about returning.

We were fortunate to visit here on a clear sunny day; the views from the hotel were wonderful. The restaurant provides good views from most seats. The food featured a light lunch menu, regular menu, and a chef's specials menu; no shortage of choice. We opted for soup and a light follower. All nicely done. Service was efficient and accommodating. Plenty of parking available out front.

Offered a good standard of meal in nice surroundings.there is a good choice of British dishes, mainly. I had fish and chips and my wife had roast chicken. Both were well prepared and tasty. The price was reasonable for an up market establishment. The drinks were a pint of lager and a pint of soda and lime. The soda cost £5.00,which is extortionate. It left a bad taste in the mouth, which was unfortunate as we had enjoyed the meal.

Went here whilst on holiday for an evening meal. The hotel is stunning. We dined in the evening overlooking the sea at sunset. Truly amazing! The food was excellent and service was speedy with very polite staff. You will not be disappointed

Would have stayed here, but it looked awful on google streetview. Fortunately it has been considerably updated since then and looks much better.

Avocado and smoked salmon salad ticks all my boxes. I can’t eat bread but swap that for sweet potato fries. I love (but also need) ‘healthy’ food to stay well. This meal means I can look forward to eating out. Thank you Banff Springs. You know healthy food can be delicious too!

We came here in April with cousins as a treat for all. The food was excellent and the views over the coast were lovely. The décor was rather dated, but this added to the charm. I loved my lamb, delicious. Well done :)

We arrived here by chance really and was not expecting much. However our mains were Devine tender beef and my wife had a fantastic steak pie. Desert was excellent. This is far far better than a lot of other local places. Will I go back Definitely. Have to mention staff young and very nice.

Although booked in advance my vegan afternoon tea was really poor. Unimaginative and stodgy. On a previous occasion much better. However, when I called in to complain I spoke to the duty manager who hadn't bothered to follow up in any way and was offered no redress - not even a free coffee! Not impressed.

Very modern hotel with great friendly staff, efficient service, great value and an all round fantastic weekend break. There’s something here for everyone even the dog.....

Booked a table for 4, Saturday 16th March after a recommendation about its food. 2 x pidgeon starters, 1 x Cullen Skink and 1 x pulled pork and Yorkshire pudding git us off to a great start. For mains 2 x duck dishes, 1 x Fish Pie and 1 x Venison medallions . Each and every dish was finished and given high ratings. The wine list is varied and averagely priced. Waitress service was very good and although a young team they performed extremely professionally.

Over the last few months we have visited this restaurant several times, each time i have chosen something different from the menu and have not been disappointed. Found the food to be of good quality and staff very helpful and friendly.

My wife and I were visiting our friends from Portgordon for the weekend six of us had dinner at the hotel and what a good choice of venue the hotel restaurant and bar are to the highest standard as was the food I had monkfish others had stake we all enjoyed our dinner and look forward to my next trip north and another dinner at the hotel

It's a while since we've been to the Springs, due to disappointing experiences in the past. However, we went for lunch on Saturday and were very happy with not only the food, but also the great service. What a difference! Every single member of staff welcomed us with a smile, were attentive, and offered a very good service. We won't be waiting so long this time before returning.

Just been to the Banff Springs Hotel for a fillet steak, which was absolutely superb. Cooked to perfection and accompanied by the most delicious mushrooms, homemade onion rings, baked tomato, green veg and home made chips. Great service too!

We had our xmas night out in the Banff springs last night and I honestly say it was one of the best Christmas dinners I have ever had. The service was also on point and the band for the evening entertainment was brilliant. I would highly recommend. Well done

Booked it over the phone a few days before as we had heard it was worth a visit. On arrival a table in the foyer was reserved for us and had a great view out to sea with the fire behind us. When the food came out it didn’t look like much but there was more than enough. Sandwiches weren’t amazing but they were ok. The rest scones, Christmas cake etc were really nice. Had to ask a few times for more tea/coffee other than that was a nice afternoon and wasn’t expensive.

Booked for a table of three for lunch. Lovely, spacious, relaxed dining experience in the newly developed area and attentive staff on hand at all times. We took a while to choose and the waitress was so accommodating of our indecisiveness and gave us plenty of time with a smile. The reason for our indecisiveness? Such a large menu to choose from with lots of options from light lunch to full dinner - spoiled for choice! Went for the panini with sweet potato chips and everything was excellent. First choice in the area for lunch or dinner, never a disappointment.

Stayed at the Banff Springs Hotel for a family trip of a lifetime! The qualtiy of service Throughout our stay and the breathtaking views and grounds were all that we imagined it would be! Our family will never forget this amazing stay! Price was a shocker but this was a once in a lifetime experience for us, so gratefull to have lived this Great Canadian Adventure ! Would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant, with a great view of the Moray coastline. Service was very good and meal was excellent. Hotel facilities were modern.

I visited this restaurant with my brother and sister-in-law who live in Buckie as they said it was the best culinary experience along that section of the Moray Firth.

We were staying in Banff self catering and chose a meal out here having been to the ‘real’ Banff Springs Hotel in Canada 20 years ago. We can now say we’ve done both! We were not disappointed being warmly welcomed and then seated with a fine view of the setting sun. We had starters and main, drinks and coffee for just over £60 which is very reasonable. The food was good, well presented and portion sizes were just right, nothing wasted. The coffee was good and served in the lounge at our request. It made for a fine finish to a fine day, thank you.

Breakfast is made to order but have had better. Dinner was disappointing. However their afternoon teas are well worth a try especially the cocktail one

First time at the Banff springs for lunch. Really enjoyed the meal with a varied menu. I chose the chicken stroganoff and it was lovely with a lovely creamy sauce. Service was great and the restaurant was warm and inviting. Definitely return.

Beautifully cooked fish, well presented. I had the trio of desserts - lovely. Wine list was adequate and reasonably priced- it included suggestions for wine matching to the food on the menu which was a good idea. Staff were helpful and professional. Would recommend.

I have eaten many times at the Banff Springs and can honestly say that each time I go, the food and service is just as good as the previous visit.Normally my friends and i take a different eating place every month and each time, we always say the Banff Springs is the best. The food is always very well cooked, presented well and the service is just right. Whoever does the front of house training deserves a medal. It's good to have attentive service without being a nuisance and I always walk away feeling like I have been very well looked after.......of course totally stuffed as well!!!The kitchen also deserves a special mention. I have eaten here many times and not once has anything been not right. The food is always cooked to perfection, full of flavour and thoroughly enjoyable. To never have an "off" night is pretty hard going, I for one appreciate the hard work and effort you put in to preparing, cooking and serving your food. Bearing in mind every time I have eaten here the restaurant has been fully booked!Will defo be back, in fact, think I must be overdue a visit so might just get the friends steered for another meal.Keep up the fantastic work guys.

We used to go here for a Sunday carvery every year when we came up north for a family holiday and it used to be a real event. Sadly the room it was hosted in has been changed and although the view in the bar is stunning the TVs were on on the background and with the exception of one waitress thought the service was poor. The portions of meat from the carvery have been reduced and all in all it used to be something I would get dressed up for now I just chucked on my trainers and jeans. Still a nice view and as said one waitress made an effort otherwise I would have rated it much worse. Please if you are going to make the bar with the view your dining spot switch the TVs off!

Nephew had his wedding here lovely attentive staff willing to go the extra mile..Bar staff friendly food was delicious and served in good time.Lovely decorated with comfy seating in the lounge area.Staff kindly called a taxi which came to collect very quickly. Would recommend.

Lovely hotel with beautiful views over the bay (not all rooms). Good bar area with plenty of seating. Our room was immaculate and spacious. We had an evening meal and it was superb. Great choice on the menu with locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast was excellent also with a good choice. The staff were all very polite. There was a wedding being held the night we were there but if we hadn't seen the bride we would not have been aware of this. If we are in this area again we would certainly stay at the Banff Springs again and we would highly recommend it.
