Got a small fish it was the size of the palm of my hand I was charged £5 never go there again couldn’t believe the size couldn’t eat it didn’t smell fresh

under new management,so hopefully the last owner never has any input as he was not suitable to run a bath.will give the new place a try.

Food has been going down hill for a while now until its just inedible so stopped going, I'm hearing a lot of people saying exactly the same, iv found hairs in my chips before but then again I'm not surprised the girls behind the counter all have there hair loose pulled forward draping into your food especially the blond haired one. Surely health & safety says hair has to be tied back and all times and in a hair net whilst working with food ?? Suppose from looking at your other reviews you won't have to worry soon as therel be no customers left to server See pictures of my burnt fish & chips **** edit after owners reply -- you have had a girl called Lisa work there for years she may not be blond at the minute as she changes from blonde to dark and back, last time i see her she was blonde with her long her loose pulled forward over her shoulder leaning forwards into someone's food she was wrapping this is NOT hygienic sort ur staff out with her nets but obviously u won't need one will u

Used to best chippy around now it's hit and miss. Don't bother going in to order you'll be met be miserable argumentative staff mainly the lady with tattood face. Update: when my main issues were staff attitudes and therefore resulting in poor service and dropped food quality you've proved my point with your reply.

Been going here since I was a child and it’s always been amazing as soon as I opened my food today after I collected I just knew it had changed something. Fish stuck together, where’s the fish boxes gone? couldn’t even peel the paper off it was that greasy and soggy, chips are brown and weird and the mushy peas were all hard. Then when my boyfriend was eating it he pulled a full hair out of the batter! Curry is bland and the gravy lumpy, honestly couldn’t have said any of it was nice unfortunately Update: why would I lie about that, I’m not after anything but you need to know and so do others that’s what a review is. Chill out MATE.

Bought a Donner meat and chips tonight got home it was rank the meat was so dry and crispy it was disgusting, wont be ordering here again

Over £12 for a large fish is absolutely shocking, it isn't even that big either

Everyone has a bad day,had a sample of donor meat last week absolutely gorgeous 5*couldn't wait to buy one, went and bought one last night,it came out of the warmer and was not a patch on the sample, please do the kebab fresh and earn some brownie points, I have been telling everyone how gorgeous it was but now disappointed 😞😞

Was going to order 2 x fish & chips tonight, as we often do from the Avenue, until we discovered how much the price has suddenly increased. Love the fish & chips, but not @ £30 Have been going to the Avenue for over 40 yrs, when Sava owned it and continued to support the new owners and were happy too, but the price hike is too much.

We have recently changed chip shop due to the standard of the previous one. The Avenue was recommended to us by a customer in the previous one. My husband usually goes in but I decided to get our last minute dinner. From the moment I went in the atmosphere was cheerful and the smell of the food was gorgeous. I went with one meal in mind but watching what others were getting and the aroma in the place made it difficult to stick to the plan! I was served by two lovely ladies called Clare and a younger lady called Katy (I think 🤔). They did mention that the food may be slightly more expensive but the portions were huge! I actually thought the price was very good. The place looked clean and the service was great. The customers chatted with each other while waiting and the general consensus was, that the quality of the Avenue's service was excellent. This is now our regular chippy! Oh and the chips are so well cooked and tasty. 😋

Owner is the most miserable person I have ever known, never says hello goodbye or anything ,don't know how his staff put up with him I got banned for asking why his prices all most doubled for his mini fish dinner

We have been going here for years. My husband came home last night since it has been under new manager saying we won't be going back there again. It is such a shame as the food is quite good. The owner has started a separate charge for rice/ chips with a meal. I totally understand prices have had to go up as they would not be able to continue there business. But, when my husband asked if the price was right for one Chinese meal and a small portion of chips. The manager said " if you don't like my prices you can go elsewhere!" He only queried it as he thought £12.80 was a little steep.And last week the card machine took £47.00 ( three payments by mistake.) So, he is within his rights to check. We are going to vote with our feet!

just bought a large chips which were dark brown, greasy, floppy and soggy and a cost of £3.80 disgusting went straight in the bin will not be going again

We have been going to The Avenue for years and found out the hard way that there are new owners. We have never had to throw away chips, they were soggy, floppy, brown and some were raw inside. The large fish was the size of a small. The price had jumped up too. Very disappointed, will not be returning.

The fish has improved but the chips are a soggy mess and the new prices from the new owner are just not affordable also the new owners have done away with pensioners fish and chips a wrong move in my opinion.The new owner is not engaging at front of house. Update - as you can see the owner is in denial I said the fish was much improved However his attitude is abisimal and need’s to take constructive criticism and not berate anyone who leaves a negative view so I say to him go and work on your chips as for being barred because of the review I left trust me whilst your still the owner I won’t be returning I’ll be going to Giorgio’s in Claughton fantastic fish and crispy fries 👍

Chicken curry £9 and it was barely edible, small fish dinner greasy and went in the bin, female staff looked like she wanted you dead, don't know what the fuss is about regarding the Avenue chippy we will never return.

I got pie and chips but the card machine wouldn't work,the young lady said that I could have my order and pay tomorrow,I was amazed,its the first time I have ever been to this place,I went back the next day and paid,hats off to the young lady 💯💯💯👍👍👍👍

Fast service and always good quality food

Why close the app? was always useful for ordering and then collecting and getting the 15% discount. Now only left with Uber Eats to order and the prices are rip off through their app with all the costs added. Favourite place to order from so five stars for food but disappointed the app has gone

Love this Chippy. The food is fabulous and the team are so lovely. Curry sauce is gorgeous and reminds me of back in the 70s. Proper homemade. Fish savoury is a lovely reminder of being a kid. Highly recommend

Just had fish & chips delivered! Best fish & chips we have ever had! Huge portions! Batter was incredibly light and not at all greasy! Only down side - We couldn’t finish it all! Definitely going back soon!

Lovely chippy, beautiful food and fresh fish. That was my review of the Avenue chippy a few years ago. And then we come on 2 years later, I have just had the worst fish and chips i have ever eaten. The chips when the old owner had it were superb, absolutely cooked to perfection. The peas were absolutely disgusting and a bright grreen colour. The chips were white, greasy and undercooked, the curry was full of lumps and the meal has just cost me £9, never going there again. If the new owner wants to succeed then he needs to up his game. Just to make sure people know where I mean and get the right shop, I have added a pic of the front. Smart replies by the owner will not help his business, nor will his disgusting chips, or lumpy curry.

Got a lot better recently. Great portion sizes. I left a review a couple months back when the chips were clumped together and sausages undercooked but has been great lately.

Just got my Thursday night fish and chips from the Avenue and it was delightful. Great service great food much impressed will definitely recommend to all my friends and family

I used to really like this place but it has changed hands and now I am not so sure. The fish and chips were okay but the batter wasn't crisp enough. The mushy peas gave the impression that Halloween had come early. They were an unearthly bright green almost fluorescent colour. Didn't taste as good as the ones we used to have either.

Great chippy, some of the best fish & chips we’ve ever had, always freshly cooked. Staff always friendly. Travel up from Leicester every10 days or so to visit elderly patents & always get fish & chips as a lunchtime treat.

If you are like ur fish and chips this is a very good choice.

Fish always freshly cooked, only good quality fish used, batter is always crispy chips are very good. I pass two takeaways to use this one. Staff excellent, standard of cleanliness is excellent , I would not go anywhere else.
