Had a couple of pints here before a concert at the nearby football stadium. As expected, it was busy, but the staff were working like trojans to serve the punters. A pub I would love to revisit at some stage in the future, if you're in the area please give it a chance.

I booked for a baby-shower for August 20+ people. Firstly the communication was poor. After going in myself I finally booked and paid a £200 deposit. Only to receive a txt msg saying the baby shower has to be cancelled. No phone call or apology initially. Very poor customer service. If you wish to hold an event here I’d advise against it!

I tried to book this hotel 12 months ago as we were going to Villa Park to see Bruce Springsteen. However it was fully booked but Michelle said they would contact me should there be any cancellations. We did not think we would hear anything further. But to our delight and amazement we subsequently got a phone call from Michelle. There had been a cancellation and she had taken the time and trouble to contact us and we booked immediately A great decision. The Aston Tavern is quirky and stunning. It has been lovingly and expertly restored to its former glory as a Victorian tavern by its wonderful and expertly caring owners. The friendly and efficient service given by Michelle and all the staff could not be faulted. We give this wonderful and unique Victorian tavern the highest recommendation possible. Arrived early and was welcomed with open arms to park up (plenty of parking for guests) Met by Michelle whose Dad, I think, runs and owns the Aston Tavern which was renovated from top to bottom after being derelict for time. The decor and rooms from the bar up to the rooms themselves are just Victorian period nod quality. The room itself was immaculate and fittings incredible. Considering the bar, outside courtyard and garden were full to the brim of Villa fans on matchday we still felt tucked away and in a private space. The bar staff, general staff and breakfast staff were professional and quick to serve and just chat. CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH!!

Me and my partner visited over Easter bank holiday weekend staying the night before Cadburys world the next day. Building is beautiful, very secure parking. Gorgeously decorated and very homely. Rooms were pristine - clean, well decorated, plenty of tea/coffee/biscuits/toiletries. Requested wine in the room upon arrival and was left exactly this in ice buckets with glasses ready for when we got in. Greeted by the owner and introduced to his family , offered a tour and history of the building but unfortunately didn’t have time as we were heading out. The owner was so friendly and made us feel very welcome, as we were leaving early the next day he made us breakfast personally for when we were wanting to leave. Breakfast selection was amazing fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, conserves, toasts and full English and pastries were all available. He also offered us to take some away in Tupperware for our trip out. We went for a meal out and after having booked our taxi was late, the owners wife took us personally to the venue for our meal. We were totally spoiled and had a lovely time in a beautiful hotel. Would recommend this to anyone!

I have been here a couple of times on post Aston Villa match days.I have to say it seems to be run by over zealous security on the days in question who seem to make up entry rules from match to match. The actual pub is quite nice to be fair but save yourself a lot of hassle if you are an Aston Villa supporter and go to the Aston Social Club just up the road where they are much more welcoming.

I visited The Aston Tavern Hotel to book my daughter’s baby shower. I asked if 18th April was available which I was told it was. The events administrator showed me the diary and told me that the booking would be secured with a £75 deposit which I did. Since the booking which I made in January I was told told that there was an Aston Villa home match on that day. I enquired to see if the booking would still go ahead. I was then told no it couldn’t, even though the booking had been confirmed. I had already got invites for friends & family printed which are no use now. I have raised the question of having the cost of these invites refunded but I have been I cannot. I discussed the bad practice of taking a booking without having match dates in the diary in preparation and was told my Monel that this is maybe something that needs to be put onto the website!! I really think it does as my whole experience with this place has been very disorganised and negative. Very disappointed as I really wanted my daughters baby shower here. Never mind, someone else has got the booking now and I shall be sure to give them a better review than this. Just a tip- don’t accept bookings & take peoples bookings on a match day when you obviously favour the football fans.

I have waited a few days to post this so that I have time to write the full story of our experience. As a family of 17 (9 adults 8 children) we booked up for the 3pm sitting of Christmas Dinner, at a cost of £49.99 per adult and £29.99 per child. We received an email a few weeks before, asking for our pre order, and promising a ‘magical’ experience. It was far from magical. We arrived in plenty of time, all being there for twenty to three. At three o’clock somebody came over and explained that the one o’clock sitting were still sitting, and that therefore dinner would be about 20-30 minutes late. We said this was fine.At 4 o’clock we were still all sat in the bar, not knowing what was happening, all hungry and with children getting bored. I went in to ask and was advised that lots of staff had called in sick and so they were struggling, but we would be called through in 5 minutes. Again I said this was fine, I understand, it was just that the children were getting a bit fed up.We were eventually called through just before half past four.As we sat down the waitress bought over two miniature bottles of Prosecco, between 9 adults, to apologise for the lateness. There was no table service for drinks, which was no problem, we were more happy to go to the bar. There was one member of staff behind the bar, Hannah, who worked incredibly hard under a lot of stress. I was asked by another gentleman behind the bar if I was being served, to which I replied that I was, but I had a large order so Hannah might want some help, to which he replied in a minute, and walked away. When we sat down for food there was bread on the table, which people started eating as we were all hungry. When the starters came out we asked for some more bread, and was told there was no more. They did eventually bring out some extra bread however. Some of the children had ordered garlic bread as a starter. This was bought out on two plates between the five of them, one slice each. When the waitress was challenged we were met with an abrupt “it’s only a starter” and then her walking away. I then asked to speak to the person in charge, and stated that not only is one slice of garlic bread not a sufficient amount, but that’s it’s unacceptable that they didn’t even get a plate each! She was incredibly rude, and just snapped “what do you want then, more plates? Fine” To her credit she then went and got 3 more plates and handed them to me.On my my way back to the table I was met by the lady mentioned (I didn’t get her name unfortunately) and the chef, talking about me. I went over to introduce myself as the person complaining. The chef was very polite, and explained that it had been an incredibly stressful day and that they were struggling. I said that I fully understand, and explained my issues again. He did then offer to “throw them some frozen stuff in” if they wanted more food.Unfortunately at this point I did lose my temper slightly with he last I had spoken to before. She was clearly and understandably very stressed, however this meant she was being very short and rude with me and members of my family, which is not acceptable.Eventually the main courses came out.The meat was cold, the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were cold. The plates themselves were cold.We were given one small gravy boat between 17 people, two small dishes of sprouts and two small dishes of vegetables. The sprouts were so undercooked they were inedible. We were given 2 further gravy boats when we asked.By now unfortunately we were all fed up, and most of us could not face eating the substandard food in front of us.Outside other customers were complaining to the chef, and his attitude at this point was “fine, if you don’t like it then leave”As a family we then decided that this would be the best thing. I went and advised the chef that we would be leaving, without our final two course, and without paying our remaining bill. His response was “fine, bye”I understand that it was a stressful day for them, and that staff shortages made it even more difficult. In my opinion though the whole situation was handled incredibly badly. No real apologies or explanations were made, instead we just experienced rudeness.Speaking to other customers they all felt the same.I’m very disappointed without experience. I held my friends afternoon tea baby shower here last year, and it was absolutely amazing, and so I had high hopes for our Christmas Dinner. We will never return here.

Ciertamente no necesito robar 6 y me fui y nunca gastaré otro centavo aquí. Si alguien va aquí. .

Hidden underneath the M6 Motorway in the industrial enclave of Aston is a historical treasure that you have to seek and you shall find. Painstakingly restored by the owner, the former derelict Aston Tavern is now an extremely cool boutique hotel / pub / events venue. The fact that it is 5 minutes walk from Villa park so if you're like me, a football fan from Devon then this is just perfect. However, it's not just the location that does it but the story behind the whole venture, explained to be personally by the cheeky yet extremely likeable owner, Paul who tells it as it is and that's fine by me. The rooms are class and no expense or endeavour has been spared to create a Victorian resurrection, from the ornate bathrooms to the period furniture and little touches including the bed linen standards. The breakfast was superb, and the staff are the salt of the Earth type that are obviously moulded in the image of the Boss. Yes, match day is manic and you will wait at the bar for that short period the masses arrive but you will anywhere 90 minutes before kick off that's not really the goal of this place. The Aston Tavern has so much more to offer, in fact, it's a little piece of history brought back to life in a genuine way that stands out against the fakery of the modern age. Two visits in and I'm a genuine supporter now.

We were at the Aston tavern at the weekend for a friends wedding, absolutely beautiful place, decor was stunning and elegant, the outside space was nice and the disco room, must say i was shocked at the toilets, they are shocking, no porcelain bowl but wood with a hole in it, they were so out of place with the rest of the place. We had a great night but there was a few issues, firstly one the girls serving the food was eating a pork cobs as she was serving us, as a lot of us at the wedding were from the food industry we knew this was a no no, staff from the bar were coming out, getting food and taking it back inside, eating it on the way, the staff behind the bar were not very friendly, no smiles, just miserable. My friend and I went to get some cake, when we returned to our table our nearly full drinks were gone, we'd only been gone 5 minutes, I complained at the bar and was given refills and again later this happened again when we went to get the toilet, the nice girl behind the bar assured us that the glass collectors had gone home, so we could only think that one of the guessed had cleared them away. On the whole it was a great night in a beautiful place but apart from one hard working friendly member of staff ( the beautiful bi racial girl) the rest were miserable unprofessional employees.

Initially our party was to be placed in the bar are, understandably, as we were a small group. However, our party quickly grew to over 20 and there was no problem in moving us to one of their private dining halls.

We couldn't fault this place and it's warm welcoming interior and exterior. Will definitely be back soon, highly recommend!

The interior of the newly refurbished Aston Tavern is beautiful, its finished to a very high standard and the decor is very 1930 chic, however the latte was a sachet cappuccino and had never met a barrista, the owner appeared friendly but let himself down with, I felt a visit back to 1970's humour, service was slow although we were the only ones there when it arrived it was average but the price did not reflect how average, needs work staff wise but venue fab

When I was visiting the Aston neighborhood, I passed this Tavern. I really wanted to go inside only by looking at the exterior. Inside the decorations and furniture and the bar and couches, all were amazing. Really loved it. So victorian style. The staff was great, excellent. We had a place near the fireplace. Awesome. The tea was good too. The manager of the Tavern came to greet us and he even showed us around the tavern. He was so kind. He even allowed me to take pictures till my hearts content. (cuz I loved the furniture a lot). It's near a park, lovely. So yeah, thumbs up. It's a great place for relaxation and you can really have a private talk without being disturbed by a neighbouring table. Recommend.

Tucked away in the Aston area of Birmingham. The decor is so in keeping with the nature and history of the building. Atmosphere set - the food is spot on and the service excellent. Has what appear to be excellent function rooms and staff indicated that there would be rooms available to stay in over night shortly.

Visited here for a family get together, and i was very impressed, the bar has comfortable leather chairs and sofas, and antique items dotted about making it a very nice room, the garden is set out very nicely with a central fountain and nice seats. The whole pub is to a very high standard, which I must admit you would not expect to see a pub like this in Aston.

What a beautiful place. My husband took me as a surprise and when you arrive the surrounding area is not pretty - lots of busy roads but that just makes it even better when you walk in. I'm in love with every piece of furniture. Everything is unique and antique. Really enjoyed the classical background music which fit wonderfully with the venue. I will definitely be bringing people back and already thinking it would be a great place for a party or even a wedding if I wasn't already married! The afternoon tea was delicious and beautifully presented. I have very high expect and I was scared it wouldn't match up to the location but all the tiny cakes were so flavoursome and the clotted cream was top quality which is always important to me! I am an afternoon tea fanatic! The staff were all delightful and offered more water for my tea without asking which has never happened and I didn't actually take them up on it because the pot was massive which also never happens! Loved the China wear. Wanted to take everything home including the fixtures and fittings! I really hope this place does well because whoever did it up has done an incredible job. Just the kind of place I'd love to set up. Can't wait to go back!

Aston Tavern has been very tastefully refurbished, lots of comfy leather sofas and chairs, lovely decor and friendly staff. Its in a rough area but the pub itself is a touch of class. The pub is rarely busy, hence the short opening hours, but that along with the classical music creates a very relaxing atmosphere.

I'm not sure how anyone could have made this diamond wedding celebration for 30 people anymore special for my mom and dad. Sarah greeted them at the door and rang a bell that came through to the wonderfully decorated private function room to ensure the slideshow on the large screen was timed to perfection . The afternoon tea was so well prepared, and presented . Great venue, great staff, great food .... What more can I say !!

We booked for a family celebration 'afternoon tea' at this wonderful venue (I know its Aston but the building has been renovated extended and beautifully furnished - you must visit) We had a private function room at the back with a log burning fire- nothing was too much trouble - they even have facilities for a computer linked side show on a drop down screen. Afternoon tea (or coffee) served on china crockery just as good as Fortnum and Mason in London except the building is nicer. Visit its well worth the detour.

Visited the winter wonderland here today .... what a shambles. The craft fayre was lovely but after paying £5 in to see father Christmas we waited in the freezing cold for more than an hour when we had enough ...I think we would have been in that queue for at least another half hour. 2 cups if tea to keep warm a shocking £8...on leaving g I decided to tell one of the members of staff how disappointed we were and she said 'yes we've already been told' as if to say stop going on about it...they missed a trick here today if they had done a better job and not been so overpriced with the drinks they might have earned themselves some new customers as the place has been done up lovely . But I'm afraid at those ridiculous prices I would not encourage them very very disappointing

The website looks professional and the photos show the excellent result of before and after a total refurbishment. I remember the pub being open on my way to games at Villa Park in the 1970’s with my dad and I remember it being derelict for decades, so I was really looking forward to going there before and after the rugby on 26/9/15.

A group of 6 of us attended the aston tavern before and after a rugby World Cup game and were completely disappointed and underwhelmed. The tickets for the day cost £15 and included "all you can eat". WELL, firstly before the game the queue for the food took over an hour, and they were only serving hamburgers, and the hun eat hamburgers I have ever seen at that! None of the staff seemed to know what was going on either!! And pints were £6 each which seemed ridiculous.

I would suggest that you only go here if you want to be ripped off and have awful food and pay ridiculous prices for your beer, particularly on match days. I was there with mates for the rugby over the weekend and it was an expensive shambles, never to be repeated. This is a great pity as it is newly refurbished and very close to the Aston Villa ground, but they really need to pull their socks up!

They advertised it as an ALL DAY ALL YOU CAN EAT BARBEQUE for the Saturday of the South Africa v Samoa rugby match at the Aston Villa ground - food, beer and rugby before, during and after the match. FOOD: before the match it took 1 hour and 35 minutes of queuing to get to the food and then all that was available were hamburgers, and not very nice ones! So a lot of people could not even get to the food before they had to leave for the game! There were many very unhappy people. After the match they served baked potatoes, baked beans, cheese, rolls, pasta and some salads, but it all ran out quite quickly with totally inadequate replenishment and the quality was very poor, using the cheapest possible pork sausages. And this was for the small charge of £18.00 per person (including booking and ticket scan fees, or should that be scam?), for which you got about £2 worth of food! BEER: absolutely outrageous at £5.90 per pint, and shows that they were just trying to rip off a captive audience. RUGBY: the bar area was packed for the England v Wales game with dirty glasses and plates scattered everywhere and no-one making any effort to clean it up, so the whole process was very uncomfortable.

Well what an interesting Wednesday Afternoon, we visited this newly refurbished establishment and we couldn't believe what a treasure it was. It has all been refurbed in traditional, tasteful style. We unfortunately were the only customers, but as the extensive works are ongoing it could be a while until this is functioning fully. We had a very reasonably priced afternoon tea with Prosecco and it was surprisingly extremely good. I have enjoyed afternoon tea in some of the more prestigious venues and suffice to say this was comparative on all levels.

The hotel did offer breakfast as an optional extra but The Floating Coffee Co was recommended to me by a colleague. A quick search on Google maps said it was a 10 minute walk along the canal from the hotel. The menu had plenty of choice for breakfast items with the usual tea, coffee and fruit juices. The staff were friendly and pleasant and we didn't have to wait long to order and the breakfast was ready less than 10 minutes later. A decent portion to set us up for the day and we were so impressed we went back the next morning too.

8/10/2024 5-5:30pm I’m a regular here and I do like it but i had a bad experience today. There were two young people working a boy and a girl the girl was very rude she was talking about customers loudly and making fun of them and just stood in a corner chatting the whole time while her colleague did all the work. she even talked about me out loud because she had a problem with me sitting down before ordering (i was looking at the app to see what they had and couldn’t decide and i also needed to do something important first) she needs to be trained properly or find another job
