Have travelled N & S Wales and it’s so hard to find good, proper food without chips. And then….Bingo! We had 2 roast chicken dinners on a Wednesday (!) for £7.95 each at this absolutely brilliant find. Real food, piping hot, friendly very very reasonable prices.

Perfect for eating very good homemade food. Competitive prices, no alcohol license.

Good quality, homemade, wholesome food, served with a smile and a chat if you want one, and at a very reasonable price. It's good to know these types of cafe's still exist. I chose The Aspidistra as a place to meet up with old friends who we hadn't seen for a while, due to the distances involved. I randomly picked it online mainly due to the variety on the home made menu and it's name! We were greeted like old friends by the waitress and although they were already busy at 12am she found us a suitable table. I must admit to being a little disappointed by the absence of an Aspidistra. However, on mentioning this, she did point out a rather unloved and half dead specimen behind me, which was leaning precariously on a broken table. This caused great hilarity in our group and set the tone for the rest of our visit which was full of laughter and rather raucous. The staff went to great trouble to ensure that any requests were catered for, such at lactose intolerance and offered extra gravy at no cost. The food was excellent for the price with all fresh ingredients. We were allowed to rest in between courses and didn't feel rushed which was nice as it was a cold wet day and 2 of us have mobility problems. The Aspidistra is obviously very popular with locals too. I would imagine it is down to the great welcome ( or over friendliness as deemed by some reviewers) given by the waitress and other staff to all their customers! Slight downside was that we had to clean our own table with wet wipes and the table cloth was rather old and tired looking. We will definitely be returning if they'll have us! I might even take them a nice healthy aspidistra and bring the old one home for some TLC!😂

Just had a wonderful Christmas Lunch, food piping hot, delicious + plenty of it (took some home!) Staff couldn't have been more helpful or accomodating (my friend uses a wheelchair). Thank you 😊

Last minute stop in llandrinndod and this place is a gem of a find. Took me back to proper cafes of my child hood and food and service was brilliant. Don't ever change. Loved it.

Sitting here, having just had the most wonderful lunch. Cod in crispy batter + chips + salad, for me + my friend had home cooked ham + egg + chips - she said the ham was excellent (can vouch for that 😄) + egg was so clean + perfectly cooked. Staff couldn't be more helpful or accomodating (my friend uses a wheelchair). Thank you 😊

Great food in here today. Lovely omelette and my friend had a jacket potato. They even made a delicious iced coffee. Friendly staff and reasonable prices Would recommend to you all and I'll definitely be there again x

A wonderful welcoming friendly cafe. Staff are so nice. Homemade food sourced from local ingredients. Ice-cream is Marios which is perfection. Parking outside. All on one level. We had sherry trifle and 🍒 and ice cream pancakes. So perfect. I highly recommend a visit here.

Superb friendly cafe. Welcoming. Pancakes with ice cream wow. It was a wonderful American vanilla Ice. Perfect. Jan Sponge with custard melted in the mouth. Excellent covid arrangements. Parking outside. Buses as well and trains. All on one level. Toilet is not accessible.

Most of the staff were friendly but it took ages for my toastie to arrive and when it came it hadn't been cut, being plonked down in front of me. I had to ask for a knife which was brought grudgingly, nor was I provided with a paper napkin, although other cuatomers were. Food was only very average.

great place for lunch ...great menu nothing fancy and incredible prices ...nothing was too much bother for the staff ...you can alter menu to suit what you would like ...not sure why one reviewer thought it strange that whilst taking order the lady sat down with them ...its called friendly service !!!! perhaps where they come from that doesnt happen ...all i can say is we thought it was brilliant ...in fact so good we went back next day

I saw some of the reviews rating this place highly, but I thought the food was just average really. Service was fine, but it was a bit weird that the staff sat at our table taking the order.

This unassuming restaurant, quietly serves excellent homemade, hearty meals with excellent service and all at a fantastic price.

We live locally and if we eat out for breakfast/lunch, we always choose here. Good, traditional well priced food, highly recommended

Our regular for coffee. A mug of milky for less than £2 served by friendly staff. Can't say better than that!

Located just off the main road this is a simple cafe with unpretentious aspirations. Food is freshly cooked. The soup was wholesome and very delicious. Service is factually direct but friendly and there is no pressure for you to vacate the premises. Appears to be widely used by regular locals.

This is a cosy little cafe with good food and excellent staff. You are guaranteed a friendly welcome, prompt service and a very reasonable bill. I would highly recommend Apidistra to anyone. There is plenty of choice and it is all very well prepared.

...the best bacon sandwich I think I've ever had. Thick cut top-quality succulent bacon (and plenty ofd it) between two slices of soft, tasty brown bread. It goes to show there's nothing to beat good quality ingredients. Free coffee refills too - and a friendly smile. Thank you, Aspidistra!

We stopped at Llandrindod on our way to North Wales. We have been to the Aspidistra before, and we're please to see it hasn't changed.

This is obviously a well-loved local refreshment stop for many locals, as well as being a conveniently located eaterie for visitors to the town. Decent range of food and drink at very reasonable prices, in clean, unfussy surroundings.

Passing The Aspidistra on a Friday lunchtime, it looked full of locals, which we took to be a good sign. We shared a table, and soon got chatting. The Aspidistra is a popular local haunt, with an old fashioned menu and old fashioned prices to match. Most dishes - fish n chips, lasagne, were £5.95, with roasts at £6.95. The food was wholesome, the staff friendly and there was a jolly atmosphere as we chatted to locals, who make it a regular trip on Fridays particularly, but I'm sure it would be good any day of the week. Nothing pretentious here.

A small cafe with good menu and wonderful staff. We arrived just before closing time after lunch and the,staff welcomed us in to the cafe. The food was very hot and served to the table very quickly after our order had been taken. Good selection of drinks, cakes and meals. Mmthe staff however were marvellous.

Absolutely love the breakfasts here, served all day. Hot and freshly cooked and never too greasy. Tea is included in the price and it is wonderfully affordable. Brilliant homemade cakes too. :-)

If you want the best luncheon meal in Llandrindod Wells visit the Aspidistra, I have been to all the other restaurants in Llandrindod and some are very good indeed but in my opinion for top quality food and friendly helpful staff go to the Aspidistra. Try it and you will see what I mean. Douglas.

Excellent fish and chips for under £6. Friendly cafe with excellent service. Compare this with some hotels where fish and chips around double the price. Shortage of pubs in the town but this cafe fitted the bill nicely. All homemade food.

We ate here at lunchtime and enjoyed it so much that we came back for breakfast! Very tasty food at a fair price served by friendly staff - what is there not to like?

When we travel up to Llandrindod we always have our lunch here. It's a traditional cafe with a good choice of food.

Friendly staff, first class food never anything served cold or inappropriately heated. Good All Day Breakfasts but also serve daily Roasts. Their sweet speciality is a choice of lovely pancakes; a portion is two. Accessible to wheelchair users and zimmer frame users but electric scooters not so. Everyone helpful. Only comment about cafe is that though very clean wax table clothes make it look a bit like a 'workingmans caff' which is a tremendous shame!

If you are looking for a value for money feed in this town, with tasty food, then this would fit the bill.

We went as 5 friends for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the range of dishes, the modest prices, the polite, helpful and friendly staff. All 5 mains were hot, decent sized portions and real chips ( not the current fad for reconstituted ). The sweets were all good size, very reasonably priced and great tasting. Well recommended. A busy place so some waiting expected.

A lovely little place that provides perfectly adequate food for not all that much, and seems to have friendly staff, friendly clientele and a perfect attitude. What more could you want?
