We saw this cute little cafe on Tripadvisor and thought we'd give it a try for their Afternoon Tea. We phoned a day in advance to book it and we were asked about allergies and sandwich preferences by a very friendly staff member. On arrival the next day we were shown to our reserved table and the Afternoon Tea tower soon arrived with a great selection of sandwiches cakes and scones. All the offerings tasted freshly made and delicious and they even offered to box up anything we couldn't manage to eat to take home. We both would highly recommend this cafe for their Afternoon Tea and their excellent customer service...bonus also dog friendly.

Immediately recognisable right by the prominent Clock Tower that dominates Broad St in the Mid Wales town of Knighton Clock Tower Tea Rooms offers a limited range of home made hot foods and drinks. Our late lunch meant missing out on soup and quiche but we were not disappointed with the chilli jacket and the ham and cheese toastie. The ingredients for the tea room menu are carefully sourced locally and this simple secret results the tasty temptations on offer. The tea room is entered via the town’s ‘multi store’. Toilets are accessed via two steep staircases which have narrow treads and would pose issue for those with lesser ability to ascend. Walkers are welcome

The soup (vegetable) was hot and tasty served with a bread roll and butter, the toasty was very good with the cheese being really tasty and the bacon was a real rasher not the wafer thin stuff sometimes dished up. I visited the Clock Tower Tea Rooms a number of times when I lived in Knighton. Each time for something different. Its a typical olde worlde type eatery with bone china cups and teapots ... very Miss Marple. I found the breakfast very good and service quite swift. On one occasion I treated a friend to afternoon cream tea. It was a disappointment because the scones were flavourless and the cream tasted synthetic. On another occasion I called in for a light lunch. It was of average quality so rather overtook the nice ambience of the place in the experience I wanted which was a shame as it was a treat to myself. It may well be that the food quality has been improved now. To conclude, whereas this place has a lot going for it in terms of ambience etc it is rather let down on its food and on each occasion I did not find the staff very friendly. Curt would be a better word. I observed while I was there that the staff greeted people they knew with a much friendlier attitude so maybe its a case of not liking strangers very much... but I lived in Knighton 5 years and passed their window daily so I hardly could call myself a stranger. This is probably a good place to go as a day out group or lunching with friends. It is better not to be alone (as I was) but to have company that you are enjoying so that the service etc becomes a secondary experience.

I was visiting the area with my partner and came across this lovely little tearoom. You enter through a hardware and gift shop which is quite unique. We were welcomed by the friendly staff and sat by the window overlooking the clock tower. There was a good a varied menu on offer and there were several other customers in at the time. The lady on the next table told us the food was very good and she eats there most days. We ordered a scone with jam and cream each and a pot of tea for two. The scones were really good and tasty with plenty of jam and cream, YUMMY! The tea was also very nice and it was just what we needed to re-fuel us until the evening. We were made to feel very welcome and we stayed for over an hour chatting to the lady on the next table and the staff. Somehow through the conversation we ended up talking about a gadget this lady had. She said, 'I don't suppose you will ever have seen or heard about one of these'. I forget what she called it but when she described it as a twig with notches on and another stick which you rub across the notches, before she had finished I said, 'does it make a propeller turn on the end by any chance?' 'Oh!, your the first person I have come across who has seen one' she said. I explained to her that I had been making and selling these for 29 years and I market it as a 'Magic Propeller'. The staff were very interested in our conversation and I explained that I make and sell traditional wooden toys for a living. I told the lady that I would send her one and also one to the tearoom. It was a shame because I always carry some of these with me when I go away but had left them in the hotel we were staying at in Much Wenlock. Anyway we had a delightful time at this tearoom and left feeling very thankful that we had discovered it. The following day I decided that we would do a detour on our way back to Cumbria that would take us back to this gem so that I could deliver the 'Magic Propellers' I had promised to send them. As we passed the window the manager saw us and waved, as we entered she made us feel like we had known her for years. 'Back again so soon' she said. I told her that I had decided to deliver the 'Magic Propellers' instead of posting them. It was really an excuse to return and this time we had toasted teacakes and coffee. The coffee was not as good as the tea though. I do realise that these small tearooms can't always have a proper 'expresso' coffee machine and that they use powdered coffee to make some drinks. It was not as strong as I would have liked, but acceptable and did not warrant a complaint. It certainly was not 'Horrible' as another customer has commented. In summing up I would recommend this tearoom as it offers good food and friendly service at very reasonable prices.

One was sent back to be made stronger but came back with powder still stuck to the spoon, and the powder was white. Needless to say 2 of the 3 lattes were left. The hot chocolate I would describe as cocoa with no sugar. Wouldn't visit again although the tea cakes were nice.
