Really great pub Chinese. Food delicious. The place to get your Chinese in the Dover area. Highly recommended. It's great to have a proper drink with your meal2

We had a chinese meal delivered last Sunday evening. We are very local to the premises and this was our first meal from The Archer, as our regular takeaway The Oriental was closed (for holiday). To be honest the quality was poor, as was the quantity of certain dishes and value for money was extremely disappointing. Although local we will not be returning for the above reasons.

By far the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. Everything tasty and piping hot. Collected within 20 minutes of ordering. Friendly staff. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Starting at the Holiday Inn for work and looking for something other than the dire Bella Italia in the lobby, I walked about four minutes to find the Archer. They have a small but effective Chinese menu and from what I tried on a quiet Monday night it is very good. The food was fresh and tasty and the staff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. I will definitely go again if I’m staying in the hotel and I’d recommend it.

I wanted to find a good fish and chips in Dover. Unfortunately, the Owner changed 2 months ago without ant communication on it. It is now a very bad « buffet » you order by ticking a paper with a « too » long list of dishies. And if you do not finish your plate, you pay for it and can not bring it home. It is amazing. I do not recommend, except the kind waitress who was sorry.

Having big the new Moonflower Chinese up there was amazing the food was wonderful and so was the atmosphere! All the staff were lovely and welcoming! Especially Fan!

Had a lovely meal from the recently opened moonflower in the Archer Pub, was absolutely lovely, excellent food and excellent staff that also run the bar, our waitress Rose was very polite and really put herself out to give us great service. We took our 89 year old Aunt for lunch and drinks. Food was delicious and the staff are friendly, helpful and well in tune to their customers needs. A big thank you to Jordan behind the bar for all his assistance.

Lovely evening celebrating our friend’s 60th! Very welcoming pub! Spotlessly clean, especially the toilets. Buffet was lovely! Plenty of room and great singer (booked by our friend’s son). Jordan the owner was a delight to chat to, as we’re all the friendly bar staff. Will definitely return.

We stopped here for dinner after a full day at Dover Castle. Lovely food, really friendly staff, reasonably priced and quick service. Would really recommend.

I have to say the food was amazing, good quality and no small portions. The only drawback was slow service, the poor waitress was rushed off her feet but sadly the wait for dessert was too long for us.

We stopped in on the way to our BnB. What a pleasure. Staff was welcoming. Other guests were accommodating of our family access issues. And THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. Well worth a visit and a great meal.

Unfortunately they don't always have a chef. Then when they do it is pot luck whether the food is any good.

We found the place because it's on the way to Dover. We wanted to eat, especially since we'd read on Tripadvisor the food was good. Nobody said anything of the restaurant only serving food on certain days. Not during the week. That said, the Hobgoblin was excellent, and the owner was ever so helpful and kind.

We went for dinner, as the reviews seemed good. Terrible idea, we walked in and it was disgusting. There were gum stains on the carpet, no clean place to sit, and it looked like a kids camp had run through but hadn’t been cleaned (especially worrying as by the time we walked in kid friendly time was hours past, meaning it had probably been sitting in that state with no one caring for ages).

Lovely friendly staff & atmosphere. Good food which is cooked to order & excellent value for money!! They also do hobgoblin on tap which is a rare bonus!

Visited the Archer for Sunday lunch. The Pub has been under new management for three months now...Wow! The roast beef dinner was amazing, like a home cooked dinner. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, comfortably attentive, polite and friendly.

We went here for dinner. We had the chicken parmagiana with salade and chips. Nicelly done. Friendly staff. Tip: leave room for dessert it is worth it ;)

Nipped in to the Archers just for a quick pint but ended staying for a very nice meal as well . Well impressedwith the service and friendly manor of all the staff . Recommendedto anyone local or from further afield just travelling through. A credit to local publicans.

Stayed at the Ramada but wanted to eat in the local area. The pub the archer is across the road from the hotel. The pub accommodates the locals with sport and entertainment. The food was extremely good, I had the specials menu which was a delicious veal steak. Well worth a visit, food very fairly priced and excellent. The specials board adds something a bit different from the traditional pub food on offer.

Poor food. No service. Food was luke warm and bland. Definitely one place to avoid. Lots of bad language coming from behind the bar. Not very professional.

Had a lovely meal here with my partner. We arrived in the late evening were we were greeted by a lovely lady who took our order. The food was amazing. Hazelnut mushrooms and Stilton sauce were full of flavour and the garlic bread my partner had was the best we have had. I then had a steak and ale suet, which was beautifully presented and rich in flavour and my partner had chicken, bacon and bbq sauce which she really enjoyed. Overall food was top notch and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be going again.

Le personnel du pub The Archer est particulièrement sympathique et avenant. Ils ont répondu avec gentillesse à notre demande de budget limité dans le cadre d'un voyage scolaire. L'ambiance est très animée et bon enfant. Le repas est bien cuisiné et les portions généreuses ont rassasié les ados que nous accompagnions. A noter le parking pour garer nos minibus et la proximité avec Douvres et son port pour la traversée. Bref, une soirée réussie.

Popped in the other evening to see if things have improved since last time . The pub was not very busy in fact no more that ten people in . The place looked fantastic and felt clean and the restaurant although closed looked nice . We will hopefully come back again when its a little more busy .

We were looking for somewhere to go for lunch on a Monday and found that the Archer was one of only a few places open on that day. The staff were really friendly, the food was excellent and good value, and the atmosphere relaxed. Overall really good value for money. Will certainly go back.

Really freshly cooked food,good service and friendly staff

We decided at short notice to go out for Sunday.lunch. We went to the nearest pub, but it was fully booked. Having seen reasonable reviews on this site, we decided to try "The Archer" . As we entered the bar the " landlady" approached us and took us to the restaurant, which was empty, we were given the menu, which had not only three roasts but other dishes as well. We ordered and had an exceptionally good couple of meals, well cooked,well presented, of good size and good value. The service was efficient without being pushy and done with good humour. We will definitely return

Have eaten lunch twice here last week, one mid week and sunday lunch and it was delicious. The staff are really friendly and there is a nice welcoming atmosphere. I can't big the food up enough.

Coming back from our journey in the wonderful Cotswolds, along the road to Dover, we found this beatiful english pub. Finally after more than one week in England we had very good food, we recommend it to everyone. A Salmon slices garnished with vegetables softly flavored with capers and lemon. To all italian people (but not only) directed to Dover Ferry Terminal it's a Is a good opportunity for a good meal. Please avoid having lunch/dinner on board the ship.

We cam hrere for a live gig as we love folk music and we weren't dissapointed! From the outside the place looks somewhat non descript, perhaps even uninviting. Once you enter it still has all the hallmarks of a local pub for local people but don't let any of that put you off. We were very impressed with the whole experience!

The beer was OK, we didn't eat here as the wifi was erratic and it was a bit of a barn of a place, quite handy just off the A2 though

Easy parking on the front, great food and friendly staff. Outside smoking area covered, tables for outdoor eating and drinking clean and well kept area. Food was great value for money and well presented.

We came on a wednesday evening. The pub was open and the billboard outside said the kitchen was open. But no, the kitchen was closed. That wasn't the information on TripAdvisor. How poor: of you closed the kitchen you tell it on internet! 40 minutes walking for nothing.!! Be aware of you chose this restaurant.

We have eaten in the restaurant several times since it reopened under new management last October. There is a very wide variety of meals on the menu and lots of choice (I am a very fussy eater and rarely have much choice of meals I like so this was very welcome). This evening we had two courses, both of which were delicious, but we have also had desserts on previous visits which were also very good especially the lemon posset. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and service is good. Prices are very reasonable and portions are very large. Look forward to going again!

We have now eaten at the Archer several times since the restaurant reopened and we have been really niceimpressed with the quality of the food whether it was the lovely roast dinner with lots of fresh vegetable and cauliflower cheese or the lovely lunch time menu the sausage sandwichs with coleslaw and salad was lovely.Great restaurant food with pub size portions highly recommended *****

My partner and I came for dinner again after going a few months ago. We had seen some negative comments on here so weren't sure what to expect. However, we were not disappointed. The menu is really varied and the food was delicious. I had a burger and it was obviously homemade and really good. The chips are also great. The service was great and the food came quickly. The price is so reasonable. We will definitely be back - nothing but good feedback from us.

We revently visited the archer public house for lunch i fancied a light vite so i ordered a Cheese ploughmans lunch.... OMG ! the amount of food that arrived on our table was out of this world. All of the fresh and good quality. My partner had the steak and chips also lovely. The staff were very attentive and offered to box up the food i had left on my plate. Nice touch. 10/10 for the bar restaurant and staff

Me and 10 friends came to pub today for her birthday. Food was lovely, pizza, burgers, hunters chicken, the special of the day- muscles were delicious! Kids menu was great. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Will defo return and highly recommend.

This was the second time we had eaten at The Archer, but it will be some time before we try it again. The service was very slow, it took 45 mins before we received our meal, and as before the fish was off as was the soup. Why was the soup off? It was still midday and not busy. And as mentioned below, the ploughmans was very poor. No way should it have been served with sliced white bread!

We were down in Dover to visit the Transport Museum so had sussed out 'The Archer' as a local place to have lunch. We arrived as they opened and were warmly greeted as we entered. We started a tab when we ordered our drinks at the bar. The menus were presented with information about certain items not being available which was a disappointment. In the main the food was perfectly acceptable pub grub but two of our group ordered ploughman's which were described as coming with rolls. Unfortunately, they were served with pappy white sliced bread (which completely killed it for me -especially as they hadn't even had chance to run out of supplies at 12 noon) and the Stilton was not as soft and crumbly as one might hope. On the positive side, the waitress/bar person was very friendly and efficient, the tables were clean and so were the toilets. If I lived nearer, I'd probably visit again but I do think whoever does the catering ordering needs to sharpen up because the small things that let this place down were solely down to the shortcomings of the missing menu items.

As a walking group we have a pub meal most Wednesdays and after a couple of changes of ownership we ate at the Archer earlier in the year. We were disappointed both in the menu content and the fact that we were greeted with a list of items that were not available. However we decided to give it a second chance and nine of us went for lunch today. We got our own menus and when the waitress arrived she greeted us with a list of items not available! Not to be beaten we ordered and waited some considerable time for our meal.Some of the meals were acceptable but there were issues with nearly half of them. A ploughmans billed with a country roll and apple slices arrived with neither and the two slices of basic supermarket white sliced bread and huge sliced pickle onion did not compensate. Meat pie with fresh vegetables arrived with frozen peas and no gravy and the scampi was of a really cheap catering variety.We told the waitress of our concerns and all she could offer was to say that she would tell "him" whoever he was. Needless to say that we will not be giving the Archer another chance.

We visited our local pub for Sunday lunch, we were not expecting anything great as we've been to places locally for lunch and have always been disappointed. We ordered our roast beef and pork dinners, food was served promptly with plenty of veg on the side. It was the best roast dinner out in a long time, it more than exceeded our expectations. We will be going again and will recommend to friend and family.

Ate lunch here today, had a brie and bacon burger. chips were great, burger was fantastic. Menu looks very good will return to try other dishes. Service was friendly and welcoming, in a nice relaxed setting. Food was priced well and very cheap for the quality received.

The pub is under new ownership and have refurbished and re-opened the kitchen! We ate in there on Saturday and the food was brilliant, so reasonably priced and the staff were brilliant! Great to see a lovely local pub back to its best!

Unfortunately the restaurant is closed and has been for a while which is a pity. Its still worth a visit though as it is a friendly well kept pub, great staff and the beer is well presented

Not the sort of place to go to on the off-chance. The Restaurant has been closed for some months, although the pub remains, broadly, open (with only occasionally closing the toilets or not having any beer).A shame, because the food was actually good. However, my track record as a local is actually getting food on about half the occasions I've been in. Pattern of closing earlier than advertised / randomly not opening at all / or just being closed for months.The pub itself tends to run for the benefit of the staff rather than the customers.

Friendly local pub, reasonable choice of real ale for me & friendly staff. Excellent food & well priced. Would recommend if staying at the Ramada which is 5 minutes walk away.

Popped in for a child free lunch. Just turned 12, so very quiet. Met by a very friendly bar lady and shown into the restaurant. Had a great starter, followed by an equally great main. Would have had a desert, but way too full.An excellent meal, with a very decent bill to boot.Highly recommended...

Years ago the Archer had a reputation for being a bit rough so it's a place we avoided, however we kept hearing great reviews so decided to give it a go. We were pleasantly surprised, the decor was clean bright and bistro like and the food was superb, the menu was extensive, I had a bbq chicken pizza which was massive and delicious, the lasagna was home made and also good, the prices were really good including the price of the wine. The waitress was friendly and very helpful. We will certainly go again and thoroughly recommend it if you want good quality pub food in a pleasant environment at a reasonable price.

We were a large party of 10, so we pre-ordered our food, when it arrived it was piping hot and freshly cooked. The desserts were delicious. The waiting staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble. The re-fillable soft drinks (coke, lemonade etc) were a great idea, and cost effective at £2.45. All in all it was a lovely evening you should try it for yourselves.

I was a bit worried about going here for lunch due to a few bad reviews on here but I needn't have worried , from the minute we walked through the door the service was excellent from both waitresses ... helpful chatty and very good at their job.we had the three courses which was excellent value for money.Everything was fresh food nothing processed (my biggest bugbear) even homemade Yorkshire pudding ! very good sized portions all served piping hot .. oh and the best gravy !! I understand there are new owners and a new chef which are both putting their mark on the place !! so please ignore the negative reviews on here and go and try for yourselves... we will be back one evening

Chose this pub since it was close to the hotel we stayed in. Food was well presented and plenty of it albeit a little restricted on choice. The menui listed a prawn starter of prawns, avocado and crevette. When it came it was just a prawn cocktail and a little dissapointing. To the pubs credit the refunded the starter when questioned, but lacked the chance to explain the change at the point of order.

Hubbie and I had an excellent lunch at The Archer Friday. Very Good Food with a lovely atmosphere and pleasant attentive staff. Had Hunters Chicken which was the best we have had. The chips here are the best.

First time in this place since the re vamp, and i couldn't fault it, warm and welcoming, friendly atmosphere, and food was excellent. Definitely recommend it and will be going again.

We were a bit concerned about the bad reviews on here but I think these must be about a different place. We found the welcome from the staff and locals very friendly. The beer was excellent as was the food which was piping hot. Would like to thank the staff for a very pleasant evening and would recommend it if you are in the area. Sorry we didn't come across this place earlier in our stay in Whitfield.

The worst Sunday roast ever! Tough cabbage, burnt Yorkshires, soggy nut roast & tough fatty beef. Poor service when I complained to the waitress as to why the food was not eaten, said oh thats ok....Err no it's really not! The table next to us also complained to no avail. I have eaten here often over the years but will not be doing so in future. This was a birthday meal and spoilt the day.

Can't really complain , food was great but biggest let down is not enough ales ,also they really need to try and have music all weekends not one in four

This is my second review of this establishment. The first time I said that though the food was good, the visit was spoiled by the surroundings.This time it is the opposite experience. They have refurbished the restaurant area, making it more separate from the bar. This is a definite improvement, however, under new management (and clearly new chef) the food quality was unacceptable.We both had Turkey, and is was clear that the slices were not from any real Turkey cooked on the premises, but sliced cooked meat brought in. We were given three small roast potatoes along with veg. The cauliflower cheese was inedible as the cauli was too undercooked. The gravy was thin and added nothing to the taste.We didn't complain, we just paid up and left. We won't be returning there, and having spoken to a few friends who had similar experiences, we aren't alone in that.Although the waitresses were nice enough, there was very little atmosphere. Diners on another table complained about their meals to the waitress.

We met family here on Sunday 27th Dec. The food was good (Sunday roast - gammon, beef, turkey), and the price very reasonable. The cake portions were huge. Everyone said they enjoyed the food.The venue opened a little later than it said on the website at 11:45. The bar and eating area were nice, I would say the rest rooms need updating. We would definitely visit here again.

We always come to the pub for a meal on a friday night, since the new owners have taken over the food is not the same we had a sunday roast and it was warm meat bit tough, the portions have gone smaller, the stuff are very helpfull and there if you need anything, do hope it gets better as we use the pub as our local.

We went to the archer for my partners birthday. There was a group of 11 of us. The staff were friendly and really helpful. The restaurant was clean and food was lovely. Would definitely recommend. Good value for money.

Many times I've eaten at this pub, so new owners thought we would give it a go, sunday lunch was not up to the standard that we were use to, hunt the prawns in the prawn cocktail, tasteless soup and no more homemade bread, beef was tough and the watery gravy was awful after what use to be served, staff were as friendly as always and gothat extra bit to make you feel welcome, over all disappointed but hopefully comments will be taken on board,

After a very bad journey by road from Scotland found our bungalow without power. We had been told by friends that we could get a nice meal at this venue. After shopping in Dover we decided to visit for lunch. This is a typical English Pub, reasonable prices, average food served by friendly staff slightly scruffy decor.

We had Sunday Dinner here this evening with my 2 grandchildren. This is our first visit since the change of owners.On arrival there was no high chair as requested at the time of booking. Undeterred Nathan apologised and promptly retrieved one from another of his restaurants and also gave us our drinks. I liked the fact he spoke to us , apologised and sorted the issue. Excellent customer service.It was a little slow in getting menus which we had to ask for. On ordering the roast it was not noted on the menu if you wanted more than one choice of the 3 meats you paid £2 extra, it looked liked you had a choice of 2 / 3 meats. Perhaps this can be clarified on the menu.We ordered 2 roasts , 2 kiddies roasts and 2 nut roasts. Gammon was particularly nice and the nut roast was delicious. Kiddies meals and ours were a decent helping with separate dishes of broccoli/carrot / peas and cauliflower cheese. All the veg was piping hot and was the right amount. Extra condiments offered but declined. It was so nice to have fresh vegetables rather than Iceland veg served up like well known carveries serve.We had apple crumble and custard which was piping hot again. I would have preferred some cinnamon and more texture in the crumble ( like oats) but was still nice. The kids had a huge sundae and it was nice the waitress double checked which flavour ice cream the kids wanted.On collecting the bill it seems that desert for kids is not included in the kids roast. Please can you clarify this on the menu . I did ask at the time of booking and was told it did.We left feeling nicely full of a good home cooked hot Sunday dinner .I would be more than happy to return.
