We paid for a superior room, requested a ground floor.. which we got. however they are only standard.. but unable to refund the differnce..The excuse was that somebody had booked the ground floor room!!!! & therefore we had to pay for superior . The only plus with this hotel is that it is in town. wont be staying her again... The rooms are very basic, ..

We visit here once a year when my MG is being serviced up the road. Five years ago we had a Sunday lunch here, I didn't write a review but I remember it as being most acceptable. We now call in for a drink, usually on a Friday and the welcome we receive is like that of old friends. The beer is not to our taste but there are a good selection of Gin & Tonic and, more importantly, a friendly face from the landlord.

We visited this pub last night to watch a football match and confirmed with the lady behind the bar that it was ok to watch it. After buying a drink and watching the first 20 minutes of it, the bar maid wanted to switch channels to another match. I have no problem with them wanting to show a more popular match but do have a problem in that we were not told this in the beginning. Had we been told when we 1st walked in, we could have found somewhere else to watch it. Food used to be excellent but the last 3 times we have eaten here it has been quite poor, so much so that we chose to eat at home last night rather than eat there. It is also sometimes like a playground in there with noisy children running around at all hours. With so much competition in the area, there are far better pubs to go to.

Massive yorkshires and excellent gravy all for £9.50 and you also get a choice of pudding, again a good portion. We were staying at Stoke Rochford Hall for a couple of days and found this lovely little pub 3/4 mile off the A1 at South Witham. We had a great meal there, reasonable price, friendly hosts who were very welcoming.

My husband and I were looking forward to a rare evening out without the children and were left wishing we had eaten else where. My starter which was described as creamy garlic mushrooms on ciabatta bread turned out to be breaded mushrooms straight out of the freezer bag. The delay between the starter and main was hard to understand given there were less than 10 people in the restaurant. On arrival of my main, the plaice was evidently over cooked and rubbery with a lukewarm hollandaise sauce. On being asked if everything was ok by the waitress I explained the fish had been overlooked and she took it way offering to get it replaced but given we had already waited at least 25 minutes between courses I said I would do without. She did however take it off the final bill. On trying to pay the bill we asked several times and were again left waiting. Overall a very disappointing meal and it will be long time before I venture back there.

Sunday lunch carvery set up in small room at back acting as restaurant probably seating no more than 20. It was all laid out with chef in attendance carving a good choice of 4 meats. The veg was wonderful, lots of choice and really well cooked. The roast potatoes were probably the best we've ever had eating out for Sunday lunch they were crispy and really tasty. We had a quite superb Sunday lunch at the Angel Inn today, from their fabulous carvery. The meat and poulty on offer - a choice of four - were beautifully-cooked, and chef Shaun Mason even offers a choice of beef joints, cooked to suit all tastes. The vegetables were freshly cooked, and the roast potatoes, gravy and Yorkshire puddings were just lovely - far better than we can cook at home. A great range of tasty puddings - Shaun was a pastry chef at the Royal Household - finished off a lovely experience for our young family of four. And, at £9.50 a head, we think it offered superb value given the quality. As always, Steven and Vicky, looking after the front of house aspects, gave us a very warm welcome.
