Poor menu choices.prawn cocktail thrown together with tiny shrimps.Pie ok but no better than Greg’s chicken bake. The Angel lager was branded stuff worse than foster’s. The waiting staff nice enough but simply plate carriers.Portion of chips added to the pie was measly with about 6 good chips with the rest looked liked been in the hold for hours. This used to be a great pub food outlet moving to bistro level food.

We booked for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day. To be fair we only booked earlier that week so could only get an early table at 12 noon. We checked out the menu and thought it was a tad expensive (£27 for 2 courses) for some of our party so emailed asking if we could just have one course and what the cost would be but they didn’t even bother to reply. When we arrived we were shown to The Barn Restaurant which was very dark and dreary and looked like an overflow place to eat. The tables were set with napkins, knife and fork but no salt or pepper. We were asked if we would like to order drinks without a drinks menu, I asked if they had one and the young lady had to keep going to ask another server every question we asked her. We were told they did not have a printed drinks menu and if I asked for something she would let us know if they had it!!! I asked about red wine and again she had to ask! We were given 2 menus between 3 of us. I asked if we could just have one course and was told yes we didn’t ask how much one course would cost BIG MISTAKE! Our food arrived very quickly 3 Sunday lunches, pink beef, lamb, pork. We had to ask for salt and pepper. The food was not particularly hot but I thought it was tasty but my husband thought it was under seasoned and my beef was extremely pink but ok for me but very grisly. Definitely NOT worth what they charged us. Having a butchers shop we know our meat. The food was really cold by the time we finished it. We were not asked if the food was ok and my husband had to ask for a second drink. We decided only to go for 1 course and give the bakers in the village some customer for dessert. At no time were we told that the 2 course choice was much better value for money and stupidly we didn’t ask! We asked for the bill and we were totally shocked 😳 . They charged us £26 for the beef, we think £25 for the lamb and £22 for the pork because the girl whipped the bill away as soon as we paid. Had we known this would have definitely gone for 2 courses . Upon leaving I questioned the cost to be told with a smirk that yes that was the price! I genuinely think that any server with any morals should have told us this when we asked about just having 1 course. The management of the establishment should be ashamed of their staff training and over all customer service when charging luxury prices. As I told the young lady with the smirk, I would not eat there again.

Superb quality Sunday lunch!! We booked for 12 for an early lunch as we prefer to be in & out before places get rammed. It was very quiet for well over an hour as I suspect most folk were put off by the snow… not us! We travelled all the way from the coast to feed our faces!! 2 set menu prices for a 2 course (£28) or 3 course (£34) meal. Good range to suit all.. 7/8 choices per course apart from dessert which had 5 choices including cheese board. Husband plumped for the 3 course and had carrot & butternut squash soup with a poppyseed roll, roast beef and all the trimmings finished with apple crumble & custard. I had the 2 course - mushroom, butternut squash & chestnut wellington and all the trimmings finished with sticky toffee pudding. Every course was exceptional! Staff were attentive & speedy to bring out the food. The kitchen here serve restaurant quality food… it’s elevated beyond your typical ’pub grub’. Very reasonably priced as well. It was almost full as we left.. chatting to some of the other customers around us on the way out, they go most Sundays.. and we now know why!! Sshhhhhhhh! Don’t tell a soul. Keep this gem of a place a tightly guarded secret!!

We had a delicious evening meal at the Angel. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. In the lead up to Christmas it can be difficult to find somewhere that serves high quality food. The Angel also uses local produce and the menu was really interesting without being too extensive. A highlight was the roasted cauliflower starter and the fish iwith our main course was beautifully cooked . The goose and ham pie was abslotely delicious and all the veg was cooked to perfection with lots of seasonal ingredients. We can't recommend the food highly enough.

We visited the Angel following a recommendation from friends and quite frankly we’re disappointed with some of the experience. The establishment itself whilst historic and traditional is in need of some TLC both internally and externally. Inside the bar eating area was busy and vibrant. Staff were friendly and attentive. Disappointing that they had “run out” of Champagne given that it is the run up to Christmas and we were looking to celebrate. Our table was in what is essentially the main entrance area which was separate from all other diners however it was quite comfortable and warmed by the log fire. The menu was ok and the wine list quite limited although we did enjoy a nice Amarone. The starters were fine but we had to return all four main courses as they were served cold including the accompanying additional veg, this was rectified but I like my food hot and it wasn’t. Had this not have been the case VFM was ok. Don’t think we’ll be rushing back.

We stayed here for the night last month and were really disappointed. The girl on reception was really nice and took me to our room the stairs carpet should have been thrown out it was so black and greasy. There was no mention that the rooms were all dog friendly when we booked and the smell of dog was overpowering when we opened the wardrobe think someone had a dog sleeping in there. Our evening meal was alright but nothing special and during the night my Husband who has bad asthma got really bad due to the dogs. He was bad in the morning so we didn't bother with breakfast just had coffee. We told the girl on reception and she asked if my Husband had asthma and said she would have been the same. I wrote to the manager when we returned to tell her what we thought but received no reply. All I can say is if you want a nice break in clean surroundings and don't like the smell of wet dogs avoid this place.

We stayed overnight as part of a walking tour. We did not have a great experience....The room was small but made smaller by the presence of bunk beds iin addition to the Queen size bed. It barely left us room to turn around in. The main issue we had was that the place had a grimy look to it. The floors had carpets in the dining area which were nearly black from foot traffic, beer and whatever else...the bedroom was also grimy...not dusty or anything, but just grimy... The meals do not look like those on Tripadvisor....so don't be deceived. It wasn't horrible, but it could be called ok. We were disappointed that our tour company chose The Angel Inn for our accommodation in Corbridge.

Don’t be fooled by the front of this well located establishment. We stopped over for lunch on our way to Bamburgh on 31/8. The outside seating was busy with people having a drink so we thought we would join them. We ordered a cappuccino and a coke, chickpea and red pepper sandwich with soup that we didn’t want and a roast beef sandwich. I always say you should speak direct to the staff to resolve your issues before heading for a poor review. Everyone should get a chance to right a wrong but this place didn’t want to listen. I was as greeted at the bar as an inconvenience. The staff clearly have a good rapport together that unfortunately was the focus of their day with customers a necessary evil to their fun behind the bar. I wanted the sandwich that was listed with soup but we didn’t want the soup. After much discussion (and laughter) they didn’t know how to till this up so I just said tell the kitchen not to send the soup and paid for both, it was just easier! Then I asked what type of bread did it come on? Reply: bread 🤦‍♂️. More discussions and immature behaviour between staff lead to a response: white followed by brown I suppose! The food arrived but the drinks hadn’t. I asked the server if she could chase the drinks up. My wife took a bite of her chick pea and red pepper sandwich. The chick peas were rock hard and I mean as if they were dry and not soaked. They were as hard as stone. We asked the server if she could send it back to the chef. On her return she advised that the chef could do another and without the chickpea! So a red pepper sandwich it was to be. As the server left we reminded her for a second time that the drinks hadn’t arrived. She returned with a pepper sandwich 5 minutes later. Still no drinks🤷‍♂️ whilst this is all happening I have eaten my roast beef sandwich which was nice and the reason for scoring 2 and not 1. So with my meal finished and my wife forcing a red pepper sandwich down another person came out to ask what drinks we thought we had ordered. I produced my receipt and gave it to her. Food eating had stopped 10 minutes since when the drinks came. No word from the server who left as quickly as she came. So we have the drinks but no sugar for the coffee or a teaspoon to stir. Back to the bar I went for my 7th interaction. The server behind the bar sternly retorted, your drinks have gone out. I said I know but we don’t have sugar or a spoon. These were promptly thrown at me. I can assure you at no point was I rude or impatient with any server and left completely bewildered with the whole experience.

The staff were lovely, so friendly and efficient. They ensured that a disabled parking space would be available for my husband, in fact they went above and beyond. A let down. Such a nice place to visit, but our lunch was distinctly average. 3 x fish finger buns which had hardly any fish inside the batter. £10 for the offering, terrible value. The beef sandwich was a little nicer, with some substance to it, but again a bit of a let down. Will not return as it is terrible value for poor food, not much more to say sadly. A very nice ambience in the restaurant/bar, but it really needs some thought behind the lunch time snacks.

Communication with the manager Kevin, Lily and the rest of his team was excellent. Very tired place - the carpet, if you can really call it that, is like that of a 1970's nightclub - thin, and greasy black trail from door to reception and all the way up the stairs - gruesome. The staff were helpful but over-worked I think. Place very quiet in the evening when other restaurants in town were pretty busy i.e: very little available unless you had booked. Breakfast was sad and pretty grim. We had toast and croissant. I am not sure what they are using as butter but it is solid and crumbles like a cheshire cheese when cut. Only booked here for a couple of nights and ate elsewhere in the evening. We would have stayed in a b & b but most seem reluctant to have you for only a couple of nights so we couldn't get in. However there is light on the horizon - I hear another newly refurbished pub is going to be doing accommodation so that sound promising.

Breakfast was also a very good offering, especially the eggs with smoked salmon.

Nearly stayed the night here but found much better accommodation and price at the Wheatsheaf hotel further up the street. Called in for a drink en route to a restaurant and was charged £12.50 for a large wine. As someone who travels a lot with work and regularly drinks in Newcastle City centre, this is the most expensive glass of wine I have paid (outside of London). I queried it with the staff and was shown the pricelist to prove it was correct. I had already taken a drink or would have rejected it. Avoid drinking here as they also serve low quality ales at premium prices too. Cold, uncomfortable bar area, means the quality and pricing are at odds with each other. The bar surrounds old, mis matched tables and chairs, and the ambience is poor. There are better places in Corbridge that charge a fair and reasonable price. Won't be back

Wish we had read the previous Trip Advisor reviews before eating here. It was our first visit since lockdown and standards have fallen. The food is very overpriced for what you get, in terms of quality and taste and if visiting Corbridge I would definitely advise eating at one of the other establishments such as the Black Bull. Having read the managers stand off responses to any criticism and his unwillingness to address this in any positive manner there seems little point in even contacting him. Our opinions seem to agree with many other comments on here.

We visited as a party of 6. A very disappointing experience. First of all we were shown to a table in the dog room, which unless you have a dog with you is pretty awful with hairs embedded into the carpet etc. However this issue was quickly resolved and we were shown to another table in the bar area. Ordering the food and actually getting some drinks was a fairly complex matter too with the waitress to her own admission not understanding the menu. But instead of finding out for us she just kept smiling and saying she didn't know. Once ordered the food arrived fairly quickly. We all had soup for starter which was fine but the main courses were very disappointing, and poor value. There was a January sale menu, which was very misleading. One of the offers was a beef pie main and soup starter which was reduced from £32 to £16, given the soup alone was £6 there is no way the meat pie was originally £26! The pie itself was ok but the accompanying veg was very poor and the potatoes cold and dry. The fish n chips ordered were very average for the price and the ham dish was dry. We would not recommend this place to anyone with so many better value, quality and service restaurants in the area. Although the service was poor the staff were pleasant.

We had dinner at the Angel Hotel on Friday 13th October. The bar staff and waitresses were welcoming: so far so good. My wife had booked a table and we were seated out of the way in the dog-friendly area of the bar. We had just arrived from Norfolk. Our son joined us, having driven from the north of Scotland to be with us for the weekend. Whilst my wife parked in the road outside the Angel, my son parked his car in the yard at the back of the building. The meal was alright, and we left a decent tip. Two weeks later our son received a parking fine of £60 for parking in the Angel's back yard. I phoned up to remonstrate on his behalf, and a defensive telephonist was unable to find a record of our booking - though on the evening in question there was a prominent card with our name on the table. She also explained that there are signs in the yard advising that there is a procedure to follow when parking your car there. Maybe so, but my son arrived in pitch darkness after a 4 hour drive and did not notice any such signage, and when I left with him after dinner I was equally unaware of any signs in the poorly lit yard. We have provided the Angel with evidence of payment for our meal, establishing that we were indeed customers, which the telephone receptionist seemed to doubt, as well as my son's car registration number. And yet despite assurances that, in the light of this evidence, his parking ticket would be torn up, three weeks later the matter is still unresolved. This is disappointing on several levels, but I post this as a caution to other potential customers to beware the Angel's hostile parking regime.

As a former wine sales rep based in Edinburgh, but covering the Midlands and the North, I've seen this establishment and the surrounding village change beyond all recognition over the last couple of decades. Now living in Asia, I and my partner recently stopped-off in-order to do the last section of the Derby to Edinburgh run on the nearby A68. I parked-up in the half empty car park, ordered a beer, while my partner went shopping. We spent less than half an hour in the place before proceeding north. Two days later we get a message from the car-owner, my partners daughter informing us that she's been sent a 100 quid parking fine. I then phone the Angel, only to be fobbed-off with a load of nonsense about signs in the car park and iPads on the bar. In reality, at no time did staff the slightest attempt to inform me of this state of affairs, being far too busy talking the usual nonsense that university educated 20 Somethings do these days. These folks are perfectly happy to talk to you about nut allergies, and your food order - when you've made it perfectly clear that you're only interested in an ale, but the trifling matter of a ton surcharge for your troubles seems not to register in their tiny little heads as a subject of interest. Needless to say, I shan't ever be returning, and I would advise others of a similar disposition - folks who don't particularly like being mugged-off by corporate BS management speak, to do likewise. In my experience the owners of establishments such as this understand only one thing, namely money. So, if enough of it is denied to them, they usually start to engage what little brain they have, and react accordingly.

Started off well from a quiet point of view but then a party of around 12 arrived for drinks only and could then hardly hear ourselves speak while they literally stood over us talking and drinking while we ate. Not ideal. However we were there for the food and it was Sunday Roast Day. Various chicken, lamb and beef dishes were ordered with potatoes and veg. It's always a good start when you get a warm welcome upon arrival, and there was nothing lacking in the warm, attentive and friendly greeting we received as soon as we walked through the door. The menu and options were carefully explained and we sat down to an absolutely delicious meal. As someone brought up in Lancashire I can be quite critical when hotpot falls below standard; there were no failings here though, it was cooked to perfection with plenty of tender, lean meat. The bread and butter pudding that followed was to the same very high standard. My pint of real ale was tasty and well kept; the table and cutlery were clean and finally, not to be overlooked, the toilets were spotless. We'll definitely be returning!
