This place has lost something recently and it’s sad to see as someone who’s been coming to the Angel 2-3 times a year for over 10years. Firstly, the staff seems quite rude, the greeting we had was ignorant which set things off to a bad start. The Foxhunter has lost all its atmosphere with the move to focus on food with just three tables occupied on what should be a busy Saturday in July. But most importantly, the price/ quality ratio is just way off. The evening before we had eaten at James Martin’s Lygon Arms and the food was cheaper and far superior. When you’re paying £80 a head for 2 courses you expect a steak cooked to order and a quality cut of meat. You expect quality ingredients that shine through and something more than your average pub meal. It’s marginally better but not worth the 300% mark up. I think the Angel have decided to take their customers for granted and focus on the tourist trade which won’t serve them in the long term. I won’t be back until things change. It’s no longer the special place it once was.

My mum and dad went on Saturday for afternoon tea....it was a present for their 60th wedding anniversary.....sorry to say but they were disappointed with their experience.they said food was great but service very poor......we're offered tea/coffee once and that was it.they almost missed out on scones and was offered them as they were about to walk out....they took home in a box as they had left their table but not the service they were hoping for

I had the pleasure of booking a stay at Angels Hotel on Monday, April 22nd. The staff at the reception desk were exceptionally accommodating and welcoming. The Queens Room, where I stayed, surpassed all expectations with its elegance and comfort. Additionally, the morning breakfast provided was of superb quality, adding to the overall delightful experience. I would confidently rate Angels Hotel five stars and look forward to returning in the future.

As former Abergavenny residents, we stayed here for a few nights recently while visiting family and friends in the area. The Angel is an Abergavenny institution and thoroughly deserves its reputation as a welcoming and very comfortable hotel offering a high standard of accommodation, food and facilities. As always, the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient and we greatly appreciated the exceptional standard of service at the Angel - many thanks to all the staff who made our visit such a pleasure. We had breakfast every day and also dined in the Foxhunter bar on a couple of occasions, and all the food was delicious, well prepared and presented. Our room was clean, quiet and very comfortable, and we were impressed by the attention to detail throughout, not to mention the welcome tray of snacks on our arrival. We have stayed at the Angel on several occasions over the years and have never been disappointed, so we can highly recommend the Angel Hotel to any visitors looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay in the centre of Abergavenny.

My partner and I had lunch here on February 10th, and it was amazing. A little fancier than our usual restaurant choices, we didn't originally plan to eat at the Angel, but rude staff at another establishment in town put us off wanting to eat there, so we had a wander and my partner liked the look of the menu here. A beautiful dining room, we felt slightly underdressed to eat here, but we were the only people in initially. All the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. I had the Wild garlic and roscoff onion risotto with rocket salad & Italian hard cheese. It was the best meal out i've ever had, easily. Every part of it was just perfect (and i don't usually like rocket) My partner had the Cefn Mawr Farm dry-aged beef ribeye on the bone with chips & onion rings, which he also really enjoyed. I pinched a few of his chips and wished i'd ordered some for myself because they were amazing. Of course after such a beautiful meal we couldnt say no to dessert, so we both opted for sticky toffee puddings which, like everything else we'd eaten, were perfect. Both very pleased with our decision to eat here. Though pricier than other places we looked at, its worth paying extra for. We will definitely be back, though maybe dressed a bit smarter next time! Thanks everyone.

A very nice, stylish hotel and great dining. Deserved five stars but for two issues. 1: Although they do warn you the Tesla charger isn't the most powerful, it would actually win a prize for the LEAST powerful, max 10A. It wasn't even possible to fully charge overnight. 2: Left my shoes out for a polish as advertised - it didn't happen.

Wanted to take my partner to experience her first fine dinning experience... what a mistake to come to the Angel. Firstly we were in the foxhunter bar and there is nothing fine about the bar, no table cloths, the 2 of us had a table for 4 so didn't feel intermit at all. the bar was full and very loud throught our meal, we couldn't even here ourselves talk. We booked a table for 8.15 and ordered wine which after half an hour had to chase that up and the waitress admitted she forget it least we had tap water to drink. In general the food was very good however its a shame the waiting staff cant carry the meals up to the table without tipping the sauce all round the plate, I'm sure the chefs wouldn't let the food go out like this!!!! And in addition not once did anyone come over during the courses to ask if the food was OK premier Inn can manage this and I would expect this level with the prices that are charged. To end the meal we ordered dessert which I had to go and ask for the desert menu myself. At 10.45 (2.5hrs) after we sat we decided to cancel the deserts as it was to late to eat them when they turned up. So all in all not the fine dinning experience we were hoping for. When you've paying £150 plus for a meal I would expect a lot better service, and would have liked a pudding not a midnight snack. At the end of the meal the waitress seemed more intrested in looking for water dripping through the celling which had apparently been reported by a guest than actually being atentive to her customers Would not recommend coming here and certainly wouldn't come back.

We came here after being recommended by Natural Weigh in Crickhowel raving about the sourdough. So we drove over 40 minutes to the shop as they are only open Tuesday-Saturday. The shop is kind of hidden down a side road so its off the main street. So we arrived around 10:30am, and there was an amazing range of breads and cakes, utterly amazing. We brought wholemeal sourdough and a soda bread. The Sodabread was absolutely devine, sadly not big enough haha but a must by! They were still warm and so fresh. 100% worth a visit.

Despite being spontaneous, the camping trip was well planned The drive from Hereford to Porthgain happens to take us through Abergavenny. Where better to grab breakfast then the Angel Bakery!Exiting the shop with freshly baked pain au chocolate, almond croissants and a sour dough loaf (kindly cut in half as we hadn't thought to pack a bread knife). All generously portioned.Didn't try on this occasion but the coffee smelt great.Would think you need patience during busy times as the shop area is small - perhaps gaze through the window at the bread making process whilst you wait.Downside - very messy to eat whilst in the car - but who cares it was so worth it.

We chanced upon The Angel Bakery last weekend and popped in to grab an easy picnic lunch for our walk in the countryside. The sandwiches, served on focaccia, looked really good, but seemed a bit on the London prices side. Oh well. We were already there, and we don’t know Abergavenny, so we bought one each.I’m happy to report that the sandwiches were worth every single penny! All of the ingredients were fantastic quality, absolutely delicious and we spent all weekend reliving our happy lunchtime food memories and discussing making a massive round trip to repeat the experience!I wish everyone operating at a similar price point had the same high standards. Please, never change, Angel Bakery... You’re absolutely killing it.

Firstly I do really like the bakery's Sourdough bread. Probably the best Sourdough in the area. But alas I have given up on buying bread at this bakery, I have been buying a loaf of Sourdough every Tuesday morning. The reason I do not anymore is that on the last two occasions the staff had the music on so loud that both myself and the girl serving were having to shout at each other to make our self's heard. It is such a shame as I did very much like their bread. But not with so poor a regard for customer service.
