Eight of us turned up at just before 22:30 after having a curry and because I took “too long” to choose what to drink, and they didn’t even have it, they refused to serve me, even though my mates all got served. Then for the next half an hour all we got was the staff telling us to hurry and drink up because they were closing at 23:00. (What kind of pub closes at 11pm???) Then we went outside to to their front open beer garden (open access from the road) to finish our drinks and then they still carried on telling us to hurry up and leave. First and last visit.

Couldn't keep out of this place on a recent mid-week stay in Woodbridge. Roaring fire, a great choice of ales, live music and friendly staff (top marks to the girl with the long red hair). A real treat here was the massive selection of gins with mixers and garnishes to match - Mon to Thur at special prices - fantastic value! Above mentioned member of bar staff was knowledgeable and offered great advice on good combinations. My husband loved the Encore ale too. A must for any gin lovers visiting Woodbridge. Highly recommended.

We sat outside in the evening at The Angel to enjoy a drink on holiday last week. We were lucky enough to have the great weather. The staff were friendly and there was plenty of seating. Called in here on the first evening of our holiday as we were staying in a property across the road, so very convenient. The owners were very friendly and there was a good selection of real ales and gins, however the pub itself left a lot to be desired. It was rather scruffy, with ‘stuff’ piled up behind one of the bars and in public areas. Shame, because it could be a great little pub.

My wife and I visited here on a recent trip to Woodbridge. We went in not knowing it was a Gin Bar and I myself was particularly impressed being a big Gin fan. The owner was really knowledgeable about the Gin and she served me some lovely ones i had not tried before. The selection was really impressive and it would take many a drunken night to sample the lot for sure. All i tried were served with a good selection of tonics and fruits to compliment the gin. We really enjoyed our visit here. If your a Gin fan it’s a “must do”.

Watching the bar staff wipe their nose up their arm and then serve us a drink was not a highlight. While waiting at the bar the landlady (I'm guessing) ignored me to serve two separate regulars. One was just sitting at the bar reading and wasn't even waiting to be served and the other walked in and was standing three or four feet behind me. I went to the bar later and she was talking to someone who had already been served and ignored me again. When someone I knew came to the bar, who happens to be a regular, I told them, they stood next to me and got served immediately!

Aunque tienen 250 diferentes ginebras, no ir demasiado tonto! I really enjoyed my visit to this pub, it had a lovely atmosphere. However, given it's unique selling point is it's selection of gins I was somewhat disappointed. The selection was extremely wide which I'm defiantly not complaining about. The issue was that there was no gin list detailing the different flavours in the gins which meant I simply had to pick a gin that had an interesting looking bottle as they were too far away and the pub too busy for me to look at the individual bottles. I feel my experience would've been complete if this simple element was added in. On the whole a very enjoyable evening but would've been streets better with a gin list.

Almost all of the patrons were eating and having had a meal, we can understand why. As soon as we went in I was impressed by the (for these days) relatively short menu (which I see as a good rather than bad sign). Our meal was restaurant standard. Three of us had Dover sole (couldn't fault it), the fourth had bangers and mash. We were all very happy. Two of us had deserts (panna cotta and creme brulee) and they were excellent - the presentation of my panna cotta was surperb. I had a vegetable lasagne which was over cooked on the top, hardly any sauce, the vegetables were undercooked and hard (even small slithers of carrot) the second layer of lasagne was undercooked and flowery with no sauce at all, the chips were over cooked and brown, there was a small salad which was ok. I had two people with me, one had the fish and chips, the fish was ok but again the chips were over cooked and the other person had a 6oz burger with chips. The burger was undercooked inside and the chips burnt.I don't know what's going on there, if they've had a change of kitchen staff or don't really care about the food side but we won't eat there again....shame because it could've been a great place.

Combines olde worlde charm with characterful fun-loving clientele. Six real ales and 186 different choices of gin (and rising).Clean, comfortable & welcoming. Log fire. Affordably priced good quality food. Even a "cigar park" for the cigar smoker in the patio beer garden. Car park.Well run by Chris & Sarah with help from cheerful intelligent staff. More challenging drinks such as blisteringly hot chili vodka also available to the "adventurous." I had eaten before I discovered The Angel, so have had to leave the dining experience until my next visit. My only regret is I don't live closer!

Although the food was of average quality the welcome and atmosphere of the quaint old pub was very warm and welcoming. The prices were about average for the sort of standard pub food menu. The staff were particularly welcoming and friendly. They couldn't have been more helpful and obliging. Two open fires added to the feeling of a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. The seats in the dining area were hard so perhaps some seat pad cushions would add to the comfort.

My taxi driver told me this was a good eating-type pub, and if the shepherd’s pie I had was anything to go by, he was right. It was excellent - obviously home-made. Decent beer too. It was very full when I went, on a Saturday night, so if you want to have supper there on Saturday it might be wise to book.

We arrived in Woodbridge for a family holiday late afternoon on Monday 18th Feb with no idea where we could eat that evening. There were some recommendations in the cottage info book.. The crown, the riverside.. Neither of which looked family friendly (2 adults, 2 seven yr old boys)- prezzo turned us away because they were too busy till after 7pm even through we could see tables. We popped into the red lion because dogs are welcome, they weren't doing food because they are having a new kitchen fitted BUT, they recommended The Angel, and we are so glad they did! They told us it was family friendly, good food and allow dogs - perfect, we collected our pooch. We didn't know there was a market hill, there's a violin shop - I've never seen one of those before! We carried on up the square and just tucked behind on the right hand side is 'The Angel'. The door said no entry after 10.30pm and that ID might be required, and we wondered what we were letting ourselves in for! Don't be put off. Inside was just the best pub experience - the type you rarely find but once you do the memory stays with you for a long long time. This pub is not interior designed, it's not formulaic. It's original, warm and friendly. Our dog received his own bowl of water and little bone shaped doggy treats. The barmaid was chatty and friendly and fantastic in her recommendations. The wine was delicious and the food freshly cooked with a pride and flair, my dairy free request was no problem. We had calamari - beer battered with alioli, olives, humous and crostini. The boys had home made burger & chips (predictable, but sooo good) husband had home made chicken Kiev and I had moules and frites. We could have been more adventurous in our choices but we were in need of good old fashioned comfort food, and that's what we got. There was live music on later - a regular Monday night thing. We were finished, full and off to our beds before it started, but in another life we would have loved to stay all evening at that pub, surrounded by books and friendly people with the fires roaring. I imagine it would be a great Sunday lunch with the papers pub too.Yum!

My wife and I stopped at this roadside pub on our journey home after a lovely Valentine’s weekend break and what a surprise it was – the husband and wife who run the pub offer an incredible extensive range of Gin’s, over 100 different bottles! We were amazed at the different blends on offer, the majority of which we had never heard of, and at the detailed knowledge the they had about any of the Gin’s we asked about. We eventually tried the Adnams First Rate and ‘Liff’ Gin, with tonic of course. It also had welcoming log fires in both sides of the pub.

We popped in, without booking, for a late midweek lunch. I hadn't been here before, but my wife had had previously had a good solo lunch here.Warm, friendly and efficient welcome from the young barman, who pointed out there were spaces on the other side of the pub. Very comfortable atmosphere with sofas, variety of chairs and clearly a popular pub with interaction between customers and staff. We looked at the menu and and the barman brought over a board with today's specials. It was very much pub, rather than "gastropub" food, but both dishes we had were well presented, tasty and very good value. Their selection of gins and mixers is truly impressive, and any gin enthusiast must visit. Their wine sheet was perfect for the place - small but well chosen selection of very reasonably priced wines. I just had a glass of their "house" red, which was good. So this was a very enjoyable quick and simple lunch, in very comfortable surroundings, at a great price. The place has personality, so that is why we would come back here rather than go to a national chain pizza place!

Good beer, a welcoming landlord and landlady, no machines, good food, roaring fire in the winter months, occasionally the odd music session, welcomed if you stop just for quick pint or a longer session. Better than just good pub grub.

This is a lovely old pub with a welcoming fire burning on a cold days and evenings. They have a five pound lunch, which can't be beat - love the fish pie and a good assortment of beer on tap. I love the atmosphere, the sense of history one has in this little pub at the top of Angel Lane. There are usually a few local dogs at their master's feet and good conversation. Totally recommend.

A charming , genuine, timbered building, with log fires to greet you, together with a warm welcome. Despite arriving too early for the kitchen to be open, our request for food asap - to get to a concert - was no trouble for mine host and the kitchen, and two delicious plates of chargrilled prawns with salad arrived well before the stated 6.30 opening time. Beautifully cooked, well presented, with warm bread on the side, followed by delicious house ice creams. Good service, quality and value in charming surroundings - what more could you ask?

We both love food but can't remember what we ate or whether it was nice. You might think this a strange review but it encapsulates how both reliable but unextraordinary the meal was. we had initially tried for a table on the Saturday night but it was full and they kindly gave us a voucher for 10% the next time we wanted a table - nice touch.

We reserved a table at the Angel having seen some of the comments on Trip Advisor. Service went from bad to worse as upon arrival we had to stand and wait in the restaurant section until finally the young lady behind the bar finished her conversation with another member of staff and spoke to us. We were told to sit at the table with our name on it only to discover it was already occupied by a man looking at his laptop with another man leaning over him - neither made any attempt to acknowledge us or move (bearing in mind that at this point we were the only other people there). The young lady told us to sit somewhere else and as there was only one other table without a reserved sign, we were left with no choice but to squeeze pass the man on his laptop, who again made no effort to move to allow us to pass, and sit at a table that felt like it was about to collapse at any time. We told the staff member that we weren't prepared to sit there and she moved a reserved sign from another table. She spoke to the two men who were sitting at our original table (I think at least one was a member of staff!!) and neither made any attempt to move or apologise for the inconvenience. By this time, we decided as a family that we had no intention of parting with any money at an establishment that treated its customers so appaulingly and got up and walked out. Within 5 minutes, I received a telephone call (having left my number when making the booking) asking us why we had left and what the problem was ..... my response was simply that we had been treated very poorly. Fortunately we were able to find another restaurant in Woodbridge were the service was excellent and we had a wonderful meal.

We chose the Angel for a mid week meal and it was very good. The menu is fairly broad ranging with choices to suit meat, fish and veggie eaters and they have an early bird menu with a main course for just £6! The Angel has a very good range of wine by the bottle or the glass and a number of cask bitters at a very reasonable price. A proper pub with welcoming hosts, good food, and good wine and beer - what more could you ask for?We shall definitely go there again soon.

Very disappointed with the sandwiches, bread was very dry and the smoked salmon bagel was frozen! BLT contains cold bacon rashers. All in all - an expensive, disappointing lunch. Will not frequent the cafe again .

We were a table of 9 plus 2 dogs looking for brunch on bank holiday Monday. We phoned a few days previous to book a table to be told they couldn’t accommodate us in the dog area indoors but we could just turn up and get a table outside (which couldn’t be reserved either). We travelled 30 miles to come here, paid the parking fee and easily found 2 tables together outside. It was just before 11am as we were told on the phone previously that breakfast was served until 11.30am. The waitress gave us the breakfast menus and asked us to order at the bar. We made our choices quickly but when we tried to order at the bar at 11am another waitress told us that she couldn’t take our order as the kitchen was overrun because it was a bank holiday! This was despite not 1 single table inside the pub being occupied and us easily finding a table outside. We explained that what we were told but she refused to take the order. This was very disappointing considering our previous phone call and having 2 cars travelled a round trip of 60 miles. We were told to order from the main menu but we couldn’t order for another hour as it didn’t start until 12 noon. The waitress was very dismissive and not apologetic. Very poor customer service as far as I’m concerned. We won’t be going back.

Really recommend this place. Last minute dinner booking, with no issues for a table of six. Lovely place and a good menu. The food was really nice and came promptly. What made this place though was the service from the two ladies who waited on our table. They were extremely kind and friendly and I'd go as far as saying they probably provided the best service I've ever experienced anywhere.

Just popped in for a lunchtime meal , Limited menu had beef lasagne with a side salad and garlic bread. £10.50. The lasagne had been reheated it was dry and very crisp and hard in places and not hot , basically I left most of it and told them it wasn't very nice at all. Just before I left a member of staff approached me and gave me £5 back and said she was sorry it wasn't good. So if it's not good don't serve it to customers.... Not Happy!.
