Easter Sunday Lunch/Birthday Celebration - we’d been looking for somewhere in the area that would be able to accommodate 5 adults, 3 kids and a dog :-) We were seated in a side lounge/restaurant that was suitable of a party of our size and the dog, it was comfortable, fresh and rustic. The staff were great, we were seated and a drinks order taken, menus given etc etc. We chose just two courses from a fab menu, Roast Lamb, Roast beef, Burger, fish and Chip and puds Lemon Tart, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Creme Brûlée, ice creams were our choices. You could tell the food was freshly cooked and prepared and great care taken with the presentation. The Vegetables for the Roast dinners served seperate, which is in our eyes great so your not over faced with too much on your plate, plus I didn’t have to eat the veg I don’t care much for 🤣. There was no rush for us to leave our table which sometimes can happen in restaurants. Front of house team very friendly and even willingly sang Happy Birthday to the birthday boy. When we are back in the area, we will most certainly be visiting again. Thank you

We were on holiday and looking for places to eat with our dog close by to where we were staying. We popped into this pub and asked for a table and were seated in a really lovely cosy room. The girl serving us was delightful and super friendly and helpful, despite being on her own and rushed off her feet. My daughter and husband ordered the burger and said it was really great and I got the veggie curry and it was nice but not the biggest and was quite hungry. We then shared a cheeseboard and my daughter got ice cream. The cheese board came and was a decent portion and that filled me up. Really lovely meal and enjoyed it very much.

I phoned on a Saturday evening on the off-chance that they had a table available.... they did, but the kitchen closed in 20 minutes from my call (at 8pm). On arrival, the staff were most welcoming and accommodating. We both had fish and chips, which was excellent, followed by a Basque burnt cheesecake with rhubarb compote. Well presented hearty food served by friendly staff.

The beer 'Foxy Blonde' / now called 'Blonde' was a completely different colour to how I remember it. Is it 'Amber', is it 'Dark Horse' - it is NOT Blonde, but is described as Blonde. The brewery owner owes the pub - does he not know?

I was treated to lunch by my family for a special family reunion Sunday lunch. They all enjoyed an amazing roast dinner while I had salmon. There were also some very tempting salad choices and the deserts were amazing too! The chef and staff were first class and there were complimentary drinks for Mother’s Day. The pub/ restaurant is very traditional and attractive and we were delighted to discover the large garden at the rear where we took our drinks to enjoy in the sun. Highly recommend, first class pub food and we will return.

We have eaten at the Ancrum Cross Keys in the evenings before. We are big fans so when they announced that they were starting full Sunday roast we jumped at the chance and were completely blown away by the quality, scale and variety within this hearty traditional feast. Superb beef, well rested and a mass of different veg along with a large perfect Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Great local beer or wine. Really good food from a skilled, committed and generous chef. I can’t wait to have it again. Their usual menu (also great) was available as well. Worth a trip with plenty of parking directly outside on the charming village green. This is a real Borders pub. Priceless.

Absolute gem of a find! The service was faultless with the perfect balance of attentiveness and leaving you in peace to enjoy it all. I think the gent who looked after us was called Brian, and he's an asset! Our 2 dogs were made very welcome too. The food was superb! We had the goats cheese and black pudding tart and the butternut squash and toasted almond soup to start. The tart was perfect, really nice and the soup was absolutely beautiful! We both had steaks for main which were cooked perfectly, accompanied by onion rings which were to die for! Dessert was a baileys crème brûlée and a chocolate brownie, which again were delicious. The price was fairly unbelievable at around £80 for everything including a few drinks. The pub itself is lovely, with a nice clean and modern feel. Toilets were spotless and the music was great! If we're ever lucky enough to be passing through again we'll definitely rush back!

We were put onto the Cross Keys by Born in Scotland site up the road. I have to say I expected better. We were seated in a soulless room, which appeared to be a former store room. No one else in the room. We were shown a menu which was to be honest quite basic. We were on the verge of leaving when the young lass who delivered our drinks answered our query that we were looking for Sunday lunch. She then said oh yes, we have roast beef. Would have been nice to have been given the info earlier. We had our lunch. Thee was plenty of it, but I found it all a bit overcooked, and not very warm. The cutlery has seen better days, one tiny sachet of salt and pepper each, horseradish offered after I'd started eating. No, it just didn't measure up

An annual event where many people come to the village and perhaps have a drink in the local pub, as the event unfolds with pipe and brass bands, horses, riders and many locals and visitors come together to celebrate one of the local area 'ride outs'. This is where so many people organise and prepare a lot of these local events, but unfortunately the actual village pub (in Ancrum where this event has taken place) have missed the mark by a long way. Apparently this 'visit' by the horse riders has been going on for many years and, according to locals, there is usually much support and coverage for the event from the local pub with free soft drinks for the riders, two staffed bars, for all etc. This year is a joke! Just one bar with two staff trying hard to serve many, many people all queuing out of the door all evening just to get a drink of some sort. This pub's hospitality is not recommended!

Travelling back from Kielder Forest to Berwick late on a Saturday, wanting to find a nice restaurant for an evening meal. Found this pub through trip adviser and I have to say it was as good as people say. We booked for 8.15 pm and arrived by 8pm. After grabbing a drink in the bar, we were quickly seated in the back room where you can see the chefs working. Friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. The food was great (my wife said it was one of the best sea bass dishes she had ever had and highly recommends the millionaire chocolate mousse) and of the standard I would expect to find in a smart city or town restaurant, not a small village pub. Have great ales from “born in the borders” and great value. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. About 2 and a half miles outside Jedburgh and worth the detour.

After a day of walking in sub zero temperatures, sleet and mud, you want a place where you can go to to recharge. The Cross Keys has this ability in spades. We enjoyed a couple of pints of the locally brewed beer in the bar for £3 a pint before heading into the dining room in the back. (there do bar snacks also that look marvellous) Three of us enjoyed sublime burgers and one of us the roast cod on chorizo risotto. The burgers were incredible, so much so a friend got another one! Wonderfully friendly hospitality in here. Following our meal we headed back into the small old bar. Packed with locals all of whom we encountered were exceptionally friendly. The tremendous lack of background music and an open fire making it toasty and atmospehric harking of the days of old. Everything about this Pub makes we want one like it on my own doorstep. Found this place of the A68 near Jedburgh what a find. Food was well presented and tasted just as good as it looked. Good service from all the staff and friendly locals with tables out front a courtyard and garden along with bar and dining room well worth a visit.

Lovely country pub that serves delicious food. We sat outside in the sun for pre dinner drinks then went into the dining room to eat. Fresh, tasty food, well presented and served by friendly, cheerful staff. Will definitely be back

I was expecting pub fare but in fact the kitchen was much better quality. I had excellent salmon and my wife had rib eye steak. Both were beautifully cooked. And the rhubarb creme brûlée was really good. We would happily return here.

A lovely local pub that has a restaurant serving lovely food. The staff are extremely helpful and pleasant - we rang them at lunchtime to see if they could fit us in the same night. We were told we could eat in a smaller room off the restaurant, which we were happy with but when we arrived they found us a place in the main restaurant area. The food was great and the service brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble.

We visited this charming borders hostelry after a glorious day at the Melrose 7s rugby tournament. We were all greeted with open arms by the locals and made to feel welcome and included. The addition of good beer made for an entertaining evening.

Has the charm of a traditional village pub, with award winning food, stylish surroundings, a huge beer garden, some spectacular locals and friendly staff. The only downside....you'll need to book.

We've lived in the Borders for nearly a decade and have only just got round to visiting this gem of a pub. Child friendly, with a great kids menu as well as a selection of vegetarian options meant the whole family was happy. Service was great too, really friendly without being in-your-face. It was great value too, with a family of five eating two courses each for less than £60 (not including drinks).

Visited a number of times, the food is consistently good and never disappoints. The set menu has now been extended to several evenings, including Sunday, which is great, as locally Sunday night is dismal as few places open - the number of times we have been on the way home from somewhere and wanted a meal but nothing open.At £15 for 3 courses, it is brilliant value for money and is well cooked, nicely presented and the quantities are right i.e. not too much but enough for a balance 3 course meal.Dogs are allowed into the bar and the front part of the restaurant which is a bonus.

Despite them having a major group booking and a hectc night ahead, they squeezed us in at short notice and even moved a table to a great position beside the fire - brilliant!!The food was delicious and the service outstanding.Just wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the great atmosphere and the. spontaneous live music from their regulars!

My partner and I had a short stay in the village this weekend and sampled the food at this local pub. I had the broad bean burger and mushroom soup the first night, absolutely Gorgeous! So much so I had the soup two nights running.Service was excellent too, staff couldn't do enough for you.A little gold mine.

An excellent meal in this small village. The bar was a seething mass of enthusiasm as we entered and the dining room beyond delivered a first class meal. Should be a recognised pit-stop for the A68, whether heading North or South.

Despite some negative reviews, we loved it here. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in and were served quickly and efficiently. The menu isn’t extensive but I don’t find that a problem. What we had was very nice. Very clean and a lovely atmosphere, where locals clearly come on a regular basis. Would recommend.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

Late afternoon cuppa and cake. Nice choice of cake, can recommend gluten free carrot and empire biscuits. Pleasant helpful staff. Clean and bright, tastefully furnished . Looks like a nice lunch menu, reasonably priced. Will definately be back

What a great find! Everything homemade and absolutely delicious. Very pleasant welcoming staff and just wish we lived closer as we would make it a regular place to eat.
