The Anchor And Hope in Wiltshire

Was at a party here last night. There was a Buffet provided which looked fab but I’d already eaten so didn’t have food, which is why I haven’t rated the food. However, the evening itself was excellent. The setting was perfect for a Private Party but still feeling part of the usual Saturday night activities. The DJ & dancing was great & the atmosphere fun & relaxed. The place was heaving, which was a good sign too. The bar service was swift, efficient & friendly. We had a great time & our Friend whose party it was, was treated like the Princess she is. Thank you 😊

A truly great night at The Anchor and Hope ! The garden area was perfect for the birthday party. The staff were friendly and helpful and they kept the drinks flowing. The buffet food was so good. There’s a great little dance floor and the DJ served up a high energy set. A good light show too ! Good photo opportunities in the bath. A really good pub, with a warm & friendly atmosphere. Thank you for a great night.

Can not recommend more!!! Harriet and the team team really went above and beyond for us. With only a weeks notice they took on a party that had been arranged for months but had to change venue . We had a buffet and it was so well presented and tasted amazing. We had some particular requests but nothing was to much . It was busy night with normal clientele plus us a party of 40-60. The bar ran smoothly and hardly any wait to get a drink. I hope to have more party’s here ! Thank you so much. Also a shout to the DJ he was insane.

Great little pub; friendly staff and drinks prices similar to other pubs nearby… can be hard to find a seat sometimes but there is a spacious outdoor area out the back.

Absolutely brilliant pub, with great music and a fantastic atmosphere. Reminded us of just how much fun pubs were 20 years ago. Reece and Mikey have done an incredible job, and the Anchor & Hope should be top of the list for a night out in Salisbury. Dog-friendly, too!

Sought out this quirky pub following it’s recent publicity on TV (Alex Polizzi in The Hotel Inspector). It’s surprisingly only a very short walk from the main square. The bar staff were friendly. Good selection of drinks including cocktails. Small dance floor for those that like a boogie. There’s several different themed rooms including a nice garden area. Loved all the unusual zany little touches. If you are looking for somewhere a little bit fun and different to enjoy a drink then this place is definitely a must.

This was our first visit to the Anchor & Hope since it's change of ownership - really like what they have done to try and subvert the traditional pub setting + the beer garden is still the best sun-trap in Salisbury and now a lot cleaner/more cared for. We went on a Saturday night and it was lively with DJs, dancing and a friendly/up for it mixed crowd of young & old, most of whom were there past last orders and only left when the music stopped 🙂

Excellent bar and restaurant. Good prices. Rooms are well appointed and good value

Took a visit to the anchor and hope after seeing it on the TV program hotel inspector what a great pub with very friendly staff and owners good prices and lovely cocktails 🍸 will definitely be going back

Every time we have came here..found the pub to be most welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is captured as you walk through the door. Great decor and quirky with a bath full of play pit balls..and comfortable seating. Has regular entertainment at weekends, and is lively with people of all ages! The garden is lovely with plenty of space to sit and have a drink with friends or family. Really found it a place with a fabulous vibe, with all staff making sure you are served quickly, even when busy.

Can't rate the food because I haven't eaten there but the staff are really chill and friendly, had a good laugh with some of the customers and their pool table is a good one, always bothers me when a pool table is off to the point it affects gameplay, solid experience, will gladly go back again 👏

Yesterday we had a big celebration and the pub was so good. It looked beautiful. Lovely, friendly staff and a big thanks to Harriet who was so kind and quick with her service.

I've been to the Anchor and Hope a number of times now and I'm never disappointed. The staff are warm, welcome and helpful, which isn't a surprise given the owner is incredibly kind and friendly. The pub has places which are bright enough to spend time with friends or lower lit for a quiet, intimate drink on a date. There's a pool table and numerous board games also available. The garden is spacious with two levels, offering shade or full sun depending on preference. In winter there are heaters under cover so you can sit and chat for hours, enjoying the night air whilst not freezing. On our visit today, my friends and I decided to try the new food menu. I would 100% recommend the potato wedges. I wasn't expecting much in terms of wedges, after all wedges are wedges, but these were crispy and fluffy with a wonderful aoli that added that something special. I can only describe them as gourmet wedges; not just in presentation but also in taste and texture! I saw the garlic chiabatta with mozzarella which also looked and smelt divine, as well as the Nutella beignets; I'll be trying both options in the future! The food was wonderfully presented and you could tell that the chef cared about the food they were serving and the pub/chef had taken the time to put together a menu that looked and tasted amazing. If all of the options on the menu are as good as the ones we tried today, then customers will continue to be blown away and come back time after time. I'll definitely be ordering food in the future and I look forward to many good times in this wonderful venue.

I just had one drink as it was almost closing time, but seems quite nice from what I saw.

Excellent friendly staff as nearly 30 rugby players desended on them without warning after they won there league with 17 wins and 1 loss record. We will be back.

I went with my friend for drinks. The menu is extensive and drinks are great. The bartender, Hugh was fantastic. He was friendly, chatty, and even made me a mocktail on request which was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. The new lady behind the bar was also fantastic. She was friendly and knowledgable. All round fantastic but the staff here are exceptional.

So last weekend me and 4 friends came out for a drink and when we got here we though oh this is a nice atmosphere, sadly the service did not match, there was one women serving poeple drinks with such a bad attitude towards her work but we let it slide, we stayed for around 3 hours and during that time we were made uncomfortable so we cannot reccomend

Located 200 yds east of the square which tends to be the quieter side of town. We visited on Friday evening and there were only half a dozen customers. It's a nice pub with good, friendly service. Nice decor and a large patiod garden, half of which is covered. We enjoyed our visit.

Great pub, spacious garden, nice selection of ciders and one of the best (if not THE best) pizza in Salisbury! The Detroid style pizza is simply delicious. If you love pizza, but looking for something different - you must try it!

Went to Anchor and Hope today, a place where used to go years back when Liz used to be the landlady. Absolutely appalled by the service my friends and I had today. We came in a group of 8, 5 were sat on a table and the other 3 on another table. From the moment we walked in we were treated so coldly and felt unwelcomed. My mistake was that I quickly switched table for a moment to sort out what drink pitchers we were going to have. When I moved back with my table of 3, the young bar man came over and said ‘how many times do I have to tell you not to move’. Which of course with covid rules I do understand but there could have been a nicer manner of saying it. When I confronted him and politely said that the manager came out with the same attitude. The place must have had around 5 people in the apart from us, considering how dead the place is, it makes sense that nobody goes there because of the attitude of the staff.

Best pub in Salisbury! High quality food, a great drinks selection and the best staff! Highly recommend!

We visited on Saturday. Whilst I totally understand there may have been teething problems, we waited 45 minutes for a drink which never appeared before we left and went elsewhere. The garden is nice and offers a lot of promise but the staff are clearly inexperienced and rude. Our first drink was fine, and reasonably priced, a pitcher of cocktail with 3 tiny glasses (that’s all we could get out due to all the ice!) on our second order, where we ordered food it just never materialised. I asked the guy waiting tables where our drinks were, and I stated we weren’t bothered on the food if he could just bring the drinks. I got told courtly “they’re on the way” and he walked off. People were being served drinks who had arrived after we had ordered, it just wasn’t great service at all. We ordered 3 waters with our first round, only one arrived, we asked for the other 2 at two Other points and they also never came. They clearly just need a lot more staff as there was only 2 on and one on the bar. On this basis, we wouldn’t return compared to the 4 other venues we visited the same day who were great!

We had a meal here on Sunday. Nice friendly staff, pizza was good, jug of cocktail was really nice. Well priced as well. We were visiting family but will definitely head back next time we’re in Salisbury.

Very welcoming pub. Real ale in good condition. Basic pub grub,but very nicely cooked. Noticed that they let dogs in. As a dog owner was pleased to see that. All together a really good lunch.

Nice pub tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. By the sounds of other reviews it's been revamped recently, and they've done a good job. Salisbury is certainly not short of pubs/restaurants, but if you want somewhere a little quieter with decent food, this place is just the ticket. Just a few minutes walk from the Cathedral, this place fitted the bill perfectly. We were greeted warmly by the staff when we arrived (my brother and I) on a Sunday afternoon. FYI, this place is dog friendly which is a welcome bonus. Ordering food was easy and arrived pretty quickly. The menu is a little limited (pizzas only), but maybe that was the time/day we were visiting. Regardless, the food was very good; apparently cooked in a wood fired oven (though don't quote me on that). I had the standard cheese and tomato pizza, which looked great. Obviously freshly cooked and not out of a box. The pub itself looks tidy and smart. There's seating inside (with a pool table) and plenty of seating outside for the occasional sunny day (which I'm glad to report it was for a change). Would happily visit again. Keep up the good work.

Definitely looks nice but the management has hired one extremely rude staff member, she made me and my friends feel uneasy and unwelcome as soon as we walked in

A great place to go for a chilled drink with friends and have a few games of pool. They have a huge beer garden perfect for the summer. The new management and staff have done a great job, will definitely be visiting more often.

I’m extremely glad this pub has reopened, the new management of this pub are friendly & welcoming. It’s quickly becoming my new local pub, pretty much I like this pub. They serve beer which I am a fan of at this pub, having a pool table is cool because I can smash my subpar friends & gloat at this pub. Seven & a half thumbs up. Good pub.

Had a lovely evening at the Anchor as I'd heard it had undergone refurbishment and had new management. Suffice to say it's a vast improvement of the previous owners. The entire interior looks amazing, the garden has been vastly improved and all round it has a lovely atmosphere now. The new landlord Chris was really warm and friendly. His knowledge of drinks was great and he treated us to some of the pitchers of cocktails that they now sell. We didn't have a chance to eat from the menu but we will definitely be back to try it. It's refreshing to see a local business add something new to Salisbury. I highly recommend.

Been to this pub few times....last two times been robbed....the bar management it's just a shame...back to complain...they just told me...to get over it...or call the police...for a few quid not worth...what to do...??? Careful when paying with contact less...any way is shame we don't get the owners.

"Great Pub" Under new management October 2017! This is now my regular pub, five TV's covering horse racing & sky sports, every day. Two pool tables, cleaned daily. Jukebox, that's up to date. Two fruit machines. Dart board, with a automatic scorer. <br> Since taking over a little over three months ago the pub has had a deep clean, and the atmosphere has improved significantly (it wasn't bad before, but the difference is notable). There's more customers in general, and the "garden" at the back definitely benefits from the weather (I say garden though most, if not all, is paved - with tables and seating). <br> <br>There is a small amount of parking at the front (four spaces), but on-street parking available most times.

Great pub, nice beer garden and lots of pool tables !
