Nice bar off the beaten track that is full of Irish charm. Does a good Guinness

This is my favourite bar in Belfast. Great selection of beers they always have a special cask from a guest brewery. The bar staff are really friendly. Dogs are allowed too which is an added bonus if you like the company or being your own. There is food served by The Grateful Bread and it's a very good menu usually find something nice to eat. I like the beef chilli on chips. Saving the best for last, plenty of live music to choose from Saturday afternoon club had a great selection of live performers my faves are the backbone blues band or Tony Villiers and the villains. Can't go wrong 👏

Great Craic. Very popular spot so be prepared to stand as its a small pub but the atmosphere and crowd make up for it

Excellent atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Haven't heard the live music but if it's anything like the other facilities, it must be good. A hearty recommendation

I don’t rank pubs. But this one’s the best in Belfast.

This must be the worst pint of lager I have ever received asked for a pint of perroni served to me flat I asked the barman to put a head on it which he did within minutes the pint was flat completely I must say the barman was pleasant but he should not be allowed behind the bar I wasn’t even offered a perroni glass and decided if this is the quality of the beer I was served that me and my partner would just leave with my pint half drank

Used to be a nice wee pub which we went to often but the lady behind the bar is very unfriendly and actually rude so sadly we won’t be back. Also the food was disappointing as I had the pork and it was undercooked. No one checked in with us to see if the food was ok so again poor service. Overall not a good experience!!

Food is always excellent, they rotate different local beers, lovely cosy vibe.

Entrando y sabía que disfrutaría de mi visita aquí, un llamativo bar de servicio domina la sala principal, decoración ecléctica y muebles, bufandas de fútbol adornando el techo y hay un montón de opciones de asientos repartidos por todo este bar, es solo un muy buen bar para relajarse. Estábamos aquí en una tarde de enero amargamente frío, bar estaba ocupado con un gran ambiente, pedimos un guinness cada uno, estos se vertieron de la manera correcta, incluso dando tiempo para el asentamiento muy importante, nos relajamos y planeamos el día siguiente mientras bebíamos nuestro guinness. Mi guinness era absolutamente excelente, una guinness fría espesa, cremosa y lo más importante llena de sabor y muy fácil de beber, era tan bueno estar en un bar tan encantador disfrutando de una pinta de calidad de las cosas negras y se sentó con mi hermano gemelo, mejor compañero de cerveza del mundo. Realmente disfrutamos de nuestra guinness aquí antes de seguir adelante y aunque nuestra visita fue solo fugaz para una primera visita a The American Bar nos lo pasamos muy bien. El American Bar es fácil de ubicar a lo largo de Dock Street. El horario de apertura es; Lunes a jueves, mediodía hasta medianoche. Viernes y sábado, mediodía hasta la 1 am. Domingo, mediodía hasta medianoche. Vale la pena comprobar si estás en la zona.

El American Bar on Dock Street es un bar local que alberga música en vivo y ofrece una muy buena gama de bebidas a buen precio. Este bar es un bar muy histórico que fue 1 calle establecida en la década de 1860. El bar tiene un interior bien cuidado con un montón de accesorios y características interesantes y un montón de buenas zonas de estar en todo el interior y cuando fuimos aquí por la tarde estaba bastante ocupado. Estos son los bares que a mí y a mi hermano gemelo nos encanta visitar, ya que hay bares locales llenos de lugareños que ofrecen bebidas a buen precio y bien vale la pena caminar desde el Barrio Catedralicio de Belfast. Cuando visitamos aquí tuvimos unas copas de Guinness que eran excelentes y estaban muy bien de precio. Solo nos alojamos para 1 cerveza, ya que estábamos visitando algunos de los otros pubs y bares de por aquí y también los sitios en la zona de los muelles. Un bar magnífico y un bar histórico en una gran zona de Sailortown y un bar que vale la pena visitar si estás por esta zona. (Esta es mi primera reseña del American Bar). Horario de apertura. Went to see RONNIE GREER, ANTHONY TONER andJOHN McCOLLOUGH on their first Sunday gig in the American Bar. Northern Ireland is mightily privileged to have musicians of this quantity. Fabulous show!!

Cracking little pub on the docks

Had such a lovely night here. Came for a pint and food after work with a friend. Food was delicious, staff are so friendly and there was a folk group meeting to play live music. Such a lovely place !!

Best pub in Belfast - Sailor towns best kept secret

We ended up at an out of the way B&B that left a little bit to be desired. My significant other was not exactly pleased with the location so my response was to find a bar or something to take some of the edge off. This was the nearest bar we could find and we are very glad we did. The place had a pretty good selection of beer on draught and in bottles/cans as well as a pretty good selection of whiskey (and other liquors as well, but our focus was on whiskey). The vibe was great (we went when they had a band come in and play what I think is traditional Irish music no idea if it was or if it wasn't honestly). The prices are pretty reasonable for what you are getting, bartenders were all courteous and got us our drinks quickly. Can't say much else. We are glad we found this place. Don't let the name fool you, it's an Irish bar serving food and drinks for locals, not some American themed bar.

Good wee spot to grab a pint and watch footy. The menu looked great too, just wasn't in the mood for a bite.

A lovely hidden Belfast gem where we come to enjoy the atmosphere and the great rum selection every-time we are in town. Their food menu is also fantastic and quite creative.

Wonderful little oasis in a bit of a sketchy area but once you walk in it’s like a door to narnia - complete vibe switch. Everyone is beyond lovely, their small food selection is shockingly devine and creative, they have an amazing collection of rum and whiskey and can give you individual recommendations, there’s always some live music or comedy event going on, it’s honestly such a joy coming back here each time we’re in Belfast!

A little gem of a place - eclectic clientele, great atmosphere, the beer selection is on point with all tastes catered for and the kitchen is pumping out Spanish and Mexican influenced street food that's as good as any you'll find in town. Good old-fashioned bar feel, nothing flashy, just what you want.

Great pub with an atmosphere and a good mixed crowd of people, even if overall it is on the hipster side. Food is also impressive - very tasty and via a kitchen on the side. Basically a nice gem of a pub which is off the beaten track compared to the majority of Belfast city pubs.

Brilliant gig upstairs...... thankfully seating was limited to 40 people only.....very hot...needs some sort of air conditioning ... Bannister on stairs needs fixing before someone gets a claim

Great for food, great for drinks, slightly out of the way but follow the big fish downstream and turn off at Sailortown and you'll find it's a lovely walk.

A colleague recommended the food here, and we were not disappointed. Not a huge menu, but it was exceptionally tasty and great value. Compared with the dross we were served at 2Taps, Belfast last night this is Michelin Starred. Definitely come back.

So good to be back and there’s been changes! A beer garden out the back doubling the space, a kitchen so that they now provide food from 4pm Thursday to Saturdays. Still able to bring our food in from Benny’s Cafe next door. Great pints. Really chatty staff as always and a regular Friday hub for the workers

Tried Phillip McCrilly's meals and sandwiches held here every Sunday during this Feb & I loved it so much I came down the following weekend & brought my parents who also loved it. Really delicious, innovative dishes, service with a smile & a warm pub atmosphere - what more could you want!

Visited with sports team chums to try Phil's Sunday takeover. The food was outstanding - with service to match, excellent all round. Really great range of Italian food on offer and was only sad I couldn't eat one of everything. Highly recommend.

Food here is usually great, but wasn't at all impressed on Sunday past. Seafood chowder with no fish and no service! Disappointing.

have been before to listen to a band who we follow.friendly bar staff in bar and also upstairs in the function room food not bad its not 5 star but good enough.plenty of craft beers if you are into them.overall nice afternoon will be back

Very friendly place. A bit run down, but it is supposed to be so alright. Bar staff great. Dog friendly, a big plus. No food was being served when I was there, but they suggested getting food from next door, which turned out to be delicious.

The American bar is a hidden gem. Situated in 'Sailor town' in on the edge of the city centre the American has a relaxed charm and easy going atmosphere missing in many other pubs.

Went to The American for a retirement doo for a colleague, arrived at 2pm with approx 40 people, had drinks and bar food ,everything was good until a member of the bar staff took umbrage with one of my colleagues and stated he no longer wished to serve him ,I asked if I could mediate and ascertain what the problem was and if my colleague was out of order I would request them to leave, I was given no reasonable explanation why my colleague was not being served and it then escalated to the group not being served, no harsh words were exchanged but I feel it could have been dealt with better and a good evening out could have been an occasion to remember

Don't expect bells and whistles here, but what you will get is a bar with real character. Food is good comfort food of excellent quality (if you don't mind paper plates & wooden cutlery)

Had a great evening watching Jet Black Tulips play upstairs. Great atmosphere, good prices, friendly staff. Good spaces both inside and out and great atmosphere. Nice wee venue and bar

Un pub authentique un peu en dehors du centre avec des gens du coin.

This place is so underrated, lovely staff and excellent beer garden. This is the most dog friendly place in belfast. There were two 8 week old puppies when i was there on Sunday and loads of other dogs, highly recommended 👌 Guiness is the cheapest in Belfast also

Great corner pub in the Clarendon Dock area. Always something interesting on tap and friendly bar staff. Comfortable sitting inside and there's a beer garden out the back. There's a kitchen but I haven't tried the food - next time! Update: have since tried the food, several times! Good, speedy and well-priced pub food and if dessert is your thing, the Basque Cheesecake is excellent.

If ur visiting Belfast come hear for the real atmosphere. Love the vibe in here!

Haven't had food so therefore didn't rate it properly (sorry in advance!) But the American Bar supported our local rock band venture by letting us use space and helped with anything we needed! 10/10 would highly recommend!

A bit out of the way in Sailortown, but, well worth visiting for it's Music Sessions. Great bar staff and Open Mic on Sunday evenings. Also great live Music Gigs in the upper room area on Saturday afternoons and sometimes during the week. Also has a lovely Beer Garden. 👌🎤🎸🎶

First visit on a Saturday afternoon for the music - had lunch downstairs in the bar - food was great- delicious piping hot and quick service. Definitely worth a visit.

Went for a comedy night with friends and it was a brilliant night. Food is really good and not overly priced.staff are friendly and all round a great place to be.everyone is so inviting. Will definitely be back

Decent food, reasonably priced beer, friendly staff. Music upstairs was good. Only reason it's not 5 star is the little stools upstairs are uncomfortable after about an hour, definitely have to get up and stretch

What a great little pub out of the town centre. Good ales and excellent homemade food.

The sister pub of the Sunflower, great for all the same reasons. A little out of the way from the city centre but the walk is only about 15 minutes from Writers Square beside the Ulster University campus. Some of the best pub food you will ever eat with a weekly rotating menu. Try the chees toasties, they're perfect. Great live music, great pub, great everything. Always a pleasure to drink here.

What a find , , , a dear Friend says, "I've been here before, let's try it, cos they serve craft ale" Friday night about 8pm, not too busy and they serve "tapas" til 10pm. On Saturday afternoon there's Blues band upstairs. Nice atmosphere, no bad stuff, mature clientele , , , what's not to like ? 😉

What a great place. Upstairs is a small intimate friendly space, ideal for listening to live bands playing righteous sounds. Last week featured the magnificent Villiers and the villains. The perfect venue for a perfect Saturday afternoon scoop or two. Highly recommended. Try the Guinness.

Great bar. Reasonably priced. The grateful bread food is so good. It can be cold. Edit; super cosy now!!

Great food and chat. Seek out this part of Belfast if you want real pubs and you'll not be disappointed. Obviously being shouted out as one of the best in the region by The Observer Food Monthly has gone to their heads!! Not. Still lovely people serving reasonably priced pints from global and local brewers alongside great food. Menu changes but you'll really want the Brisket Chilli or the Cheese Toastie which are constants.
