The Alma in Islington

The recent refurb was done very well, moving toilets upstairs with a soon to be open new kitchen installed. Can't wait to try the food. The same wonderfully friendly service from bar staff makes The Alma our first choice for drinks in Angel, schhhhh! Great, friendly service. Good selection of drinks, including alcohol free. Super friendly and chill staff. Planning on trying the food (Asian) soon!

The Alma is a good place to drink. Excellent location and prices. Food isn't served here. However, you can purchase food elsewhere and bring it into The Alma. The lady working the bar tonight (August 18) was wonderful. The Crown Fish & Chip Bar across the street is good and has a wide selection of food.

Another good Angel pub with a great range of craft beers. Staff were very friendly in helping me navigate the many pale ales/IPAs (settled on the Verdant Sundailer if anyone’s concerned). Tables outside could use a bit more of a clean, they’re a little grimy with rubbish in them but wouldn’t stop me visiting again

Cheap pints (for London!), good selection of hazy pale ales. Has a dartboard which was great fun. Nothing too glamourous but was fun vibe in there.

Best pub in Angel. Great beers in draught, friendly staff, and perfect location for a lunch pint.

The Alma is ok. Situated not far from Angel underground. The place offers a range of less usual keg beers. Staff look after you fine and you get what you ask for, all good. Not one for real ale drinkers as no cask beers on offer. A beautiful old building to have a pint in.

The lady serving us this evening at the counter was rude, impatient and arrogant. She claimed to be the manager, which is surprising given the fact that her English is poor and she doesn't know how to treat customers. We have been to the Alma numerous times, but never seen such horrible service. She ruined your reputation and we will never come back again.

Very negative experience. Served by the manager at the counter this evening who apparently doesn't speak very good English. She acted in a very unprofessional manner and sounded very rude when answering my question. In the end she got angry and asked us to leave! I have been here many times. All other staff are kind and friendly but not sure what went wrong with this lady today. Maybe she just had a bad day but If I were the owner I would have taken this case really seriously as this is not how customers should be treated!

Excellent clean & cosy pub with a fantastic selection of craft beers which mostly from their own brewery One Mile End. Very reasonable prices. Great service and top atmosphere which makes u feel welcoming. Friendly locals. U can watch sports. In & out seating. Many restaurants around incase if u like to eat or u can bring ur food here. Dog friendly. Nice staff n good service. Nice location right in the middle of Chapel Market. Really like this place.

Great local pub. Surprising selection of beers and the noodles they serve are some of the best I’ve had in London. Get the sweet and spicy beef.

Simple but well cooked food. What more could you ask from a cafè will re visit.

Got denied entry with a buggy due to cOvId rEaSoNs. No explanation of what those reasons are but there are literally 20 restaurants in the 1 mile radius that allow prams and children.

A very nice, cosy and welcoming pub in the heart of Chapel Market. Great variety of drinks, food and even outdoor sitting area. Prices are extremely low, so was very surprised how cheap the drinks were but quality was topnotch. Highly recommended!

Amazing staff and lovely locals

The rudest staff: Empty pub. 9pm. We’re a group of 10 people. Waitress says we can’t put tables together. Ok, no prob, we split up in three groups. The waitress starts moaning something like “you can’t spread all over the pub”. (???) Hello? “The pub is empty and we said we have no problem in splitting in groups. We’re not going move any furniture”. She keeps on repeating the same thing although she knows she’s not right. She finally realised we were a group of civilised people that just wanted to hang out (in 3 independent groups). Disappointing experience.

Comfortable!!!!Fabulous!!!! The volume of Muzak or sports programme is very quiet. Bartenders are very friendly. Brewery Cask Ale are only £3 (1pint). BYOF. The best pub ever!!!

Place to get a quick drink, friendly atmosphere

Bar staff poured a Gin and Soda water (is that even a drink?) rather than the gin and tonic which we asked for. When we got the replacement, we were told we had to pay for that as well! Won’t be going back. It doesn't matter what a 'gin rickey' is, we didn't order that, or do your bar staff override the customers' requests whenever they feel like it?

Good traditional pub which permits food from the market to be consumed inside. Which creates an excellent combination of quality food and an alcoholic beverage in a warm and friendly environment. Serves bottles of gluten free vagabond beer.

Would give zero stars, one star is too much. Never in my 36 years of drinking has a bar refused to replace an off pint of beer. Rude manager/owner. How dare someone serve a beer that tastes antiseptic and then refuse to replace as a sample had been given. My colleague didn't notice it was off in a sample. Not everyone is an expect beer taster. I would add all the One Mile End beers did not taste as good as last time we went. Looks like new owner who doesn't have a clue how to manage beers.Won't be going again ever. Lost our custom.A manager/owner with that attitude doesn't deserve any customer whatsoever. Avoid.

Fantastic studio rooms just a minute from Angel Station, lively Upper St and Angel Business Design Centre! Superb location, lots of eateries down the road. Rooms are located on top of a small independent bar. The staff is knowledgeable, super attentive and helpful. Smooth check in; the lovely gent in reception, Alastair, offered himself to bring my suit case upstairs for me. Him and the rest of the team were always attentive and helpful during my stay. Will definitely come back and recommend to anyone looking to stay in the city for a few days! PS: Thanks to Laura for that amazing espresso martini and great conversation, ace!

Not the same as it used to be. All the deranged alcoholics, gamblers and drug fiends have been replaced by friendly knowledgeable and helpful stalwarts. The price of progress. Convenient for the market, but avoid William Hill opposite

Cosy bar with an excellent selection of craft beers an true ciders available. The staff are friendly and service is usually very quick. Shots are reasonably priced and so close to the Angel tube it's a very convenient location to get to.

I belong to a choir which rehearses every week just around the corner. A fellow chorister and I discovered this pub after trying a couple of others in the area. Nice friendly staff, music but unobtrusive, great selection of beers, and decent prices. No food is served, but apparently you can bring your own! Great place for a couple of beers and a chat, and the toilets were nice and clean as well (always a good sign). This will now be our regular post-sing watering hole.

Seulement 3 étoiles au lieu de 5 à cause d'un membre du staff. Nous sommes arrivé moi et mon amie pour regarder le match (Rugby) dimanche dernier. Nous arrivons en avance et pendant 1h une seule serveuse (très sympathique et compétente) est là. Changement de staff avec une autre serveuse et un serveur qui la remplace. Mon amie ne se sentant pas bien (grippe et non l'alcool) elle s'assoupi sur sa chaise, contre le mur. Le pub n'est pas plein et je continu pour ma part de prendre des consommations. D'un seul coup, le membre du personnel arrive et dit a mon amie que son attitude n'est pas correcte et qu'il faut arrêter. En lui demandant si'il y avait autre chose à faire pour cela il nous a dit non, nous sommes donc parti instantanément sous le regard désolé de la précédente serveuse et de celle en service Nous voulons bien comprendre que vous puissiez avoir des guidelines vis a vis de gens souls qui dormiraient dans le pub mais il aurait pu demander s'il y avait des circonstances. - nous étions la et n'avions pas de souci avec la précédente équipe. - la serveuse de la seconde équipe avait vu mon amie et n'a rien dit - le serveur a fait preuve d'un trop plein d'autorité. au final nous avons terminé les 10min du match dans un autre pub a 50m ou nous avons expliqué la situation et ou cela n'a pas posé de souci. C'est bien dommage d'avoir d'un seul coup un personnel qui fait trop de zèle sur une situation qui ne gênait personne depuis plusieurs minutes ...

Nice and quiet place where u can enjoy your time with friend and some nice beer!

Nice small pub on the corner with dimmed lighting and good atmosphere. Great selection of beers on tap including 5 changing cask ales. Usually not too loud although it can get quite crowded. Tables are a bit small, but they have some outlets specifically for charging your phone or laptop. Recommended, especially for a beer after dinner on one of the restaurants on Chapel Market.

Fantastic spot to just chill and grab a pint or two with some friends. Friendly staff and super clean restrooms. Get out of Angel station, head straight out down Chapel Market and unwind. If you're looking for a bit more of a night out then this might not be the best choice.

Nice drink and what would have been a nice atmosphere apart from a small dog constantly barking. Bar staff didn't address this with the owners even came over to pet the dog setting him off again! I love dogs but crikey leave yours at home if you can't keep it under control, real shame!

Nice stay at the Alma Rooms. Good base to explore from and see Angel. Room was a good size. But the kitchenette was smaller than expected. The bed was ok but creaked quite a bit when you move. Other pluses included, the fan in the room - it gets a bit warm, the bottled water, tea and coffee supplies. Overall a nice stay but could tweak a few things to make for an even more comfortable stay for the money.

A good place if you like your beer. Lots of craft beers on tap and in bottles. Located in Chapel Market, there are lots of places to eat, and if it doesn't stink up the place the staff don't mind if you eat it on the premises. They show sports. I watched most of the world cup there and was able to reserve a space for me and six mates fir no extra charge. Great prices too. They are also a hotel, although i don't know much about that. Staff are cool too.

Very friendly staff, room not clean though

Perfectly new and conveniently located apartment. Only thirty minutes by bus to most theaters and with no less than four supermarkets nearby. Very clean and felt luxurious with the good oven and dishwasher. Would definitely be five stars if it had air conditioning as that would solve two problems during summer: the tremendous heat at the top floor and sounds from outside through the open windows. Would definitely stay again, though not during last weeks heat wave.

Quiet pub near Angel Station. Good for a pint with friends. You can chat at a normal volume since the music is not too loud.

Bright, clean and welcoming room. Kitchen with fridge and small freezer compartment. It was perfect for a quick stop over but I could also see it being a good over a longer period. The Alma Rooms are attached to the tap room but with a separate entrance. The tap room is quaint with a good selection of One Mile End brews as well as others.

The alma rooms in just one word......PERFECT! the rooms are the most comfortable and spacious rooms we have ever stayed in! Soft luxurious comfortable beds...the kitchenette was well equipped for everything you may want cook, although on holiday who wants to cook!! The bathrooms were amazing! Altogether a total home away from home that just felt right the moment you step through the door ! The location couldnt be better! fantastic area for pubs and restaurants to suit all budgets, market almost right outside your door. For the traveller wanting city center action, the bus routes are very easy and frequent, and the underground is close by to get you right in the heart of the city in minutes! Would i recommend this place ? 100% yes! And would absolutely be looking to stay here again above every other hotel in London. Thanks for a great stay and hope to see you again real soon!

One of the best hotels I've had the pleasure stayed in if not the best, the staff are very welcoming, if there is anything you need just ask Alister he was more than happy to help. The breakfast was top notch to.

Only visited the once. It was around 9pm on a week night so not sure what it's like during the day or of a weekend... It was a relaxed, quiet atmosphere which was perfect for the occasion. Bottle of decent wine for £12! The pubs close by are selling the same bottle for £20-25! Nice decor Friendly staff

Bartender angry about being told how to serve a Hendricks with cucumber and saying my wife was already drunk because she wouldn’t have it with lemon juice. I explained to his colleague how she made a mistake and shouldn’t be angry. Colleague turn to original bartender to explain “you can’t have an argument with an idiot”. My wife goes at him and he tries explaining how it was “only a quote” whike referring to me, calling me an idiot. Definitely not good service. Definitely not good bartending and definitely not anything good out of this bar.

Small pub in Chaple Market that has had a resent makeover, it's ok cant fault much about it, well kept beer at reasonable prices (for London).
