¡Volveremos!

A gorgeous sunny day so after a trip to the cinema we decided to come here and weren’t disappointed. The food is super fresh, the staff friendly and great value for money. The staff that work on the farm are very kind also. A lovely way to spend a warm afternoon.

Situated in Stepney City Farm, The Allotment Kitchen offers a varied, delicious menu. It's a step above usual London brunch spots, with vegetarian and vegan dishes on offer, alongside tasty baked goods. The Kitchen is pretty busy at weekends but well worth a the short queue for service. There are a few tables inside but I would recommend visiting on a bright day to enjoy the surrounding garden. Visiting in early March, our family enjoyed the cheese scones with whipped ricotta and purple sprouting broccoli, and brioche bun with halloumi, crispy mushroom croquettes, pomegranate molasses and greens.

Hidden away, alongside Stepney City Farm is this real gem of a place. Popular at weekends, especially on Farmers Market day (Saturdays) it also deserves greater recognition for the outstanding food and drink they produce throughout the week. (Closed Monday’s) Home cooked breakfasts, lunches and sometimes dinner, the Allotment Kitchen is a creating something very special for locals and those who can find it. Set in a secret garden - near the historic Stepney Church- it has indoor and outdoor seating (some covered) it’s a great spot for meeting friends, families or just on your own to get away from the computer screen during the working week. The menu changes daily, but always inventive, well sourced ingredients and delicious. We often cheat and also take things home for our next meal.

Live close to this city farm and visit it frequently with children. Often eat in the cafe on site. Food is generally very good, if somewhat complicated rather than simple meals. Seem to have removed most of the meat from the menu which seems strange for a farm kitchen as majority of dishes have been vegetarian on last few visits. However, the prices are on the extreme side, you're looking at £10 for the simplest of dishes which would be £5-£6 at other local places. Prices were always on the high side but recently seem to have added another 20% ontop again. Would likely go more often if more reasonable but will stick to going once a month.

🚇 Island Gardens 🍺 £5.30 Heineken The Ferry House is located close to the banks of the Thames at the southern edge of the Isle of Dogs in East London. The nearest station is Island Gardens on the DLR. The Ferry House was established 1722 and is the oldest surviving pub on the Island. The pub’s location near to the old ferry point across to Greenwich meant it was ideally placed to cater for travellers crossing the river. This is a compact one bar pub with cosy rooms either side of the main bar. The servery is centrally located and has Courage lettering at the top of the back bar. Just off the main bar to the right is a snug room with sofas, a period fireplace and a Tv. At the back left of the pub is another cosy room with a Fives dartboard, a flat screen and a fish tank. The decor consists of white T&G wall panels, burnt orange wall paper and a boarded floor. The room at the back is carpeted and has dark wood panelling and beams. At the rear of the pub is a sunken walled beer garden. The beer line up was a selection of familiar mainstream beers and included one cask ale. I decided on a Heineken, my pint was great, price point was reasonable at just over a fiver. There is no food served here at present. We arrived around 4.30pm on an overcast Saturday afternoon in October. The pub was fairly busy with locals sat around the bar. The atmosphere was chilled and laidback with a local pub feel. The service was good, the chap who served us was pleasant and courteous. Visiting @theferryhousepub was an enjoyable experience, I loved the history that surrounds this pub. The reasonably priced beer, comfortable surroundings and a laidback local pub feel made for a relaxing stay at this watering hole. 📅 12th October 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻
