Food not as good as has been a while back. Extra price for fries etc when ordering a steak.... Surely a steak would come with something. Another way of making a meal price not look as though gone up in price at first glance. So yes a little sneaky. Glasses with dishwasher aroma to them. Thankfully didn't waste some fine wine as would have been so annoyed. Ladies toilets filthy. Gone down in my estimation no theatre at all where at one place you could say there would be.

Food and cocktails are great! The bartenders are friendly and always attentive. On arrival the server seemed very nonchalant like she didn’t want us to be there. No forks were put on the table so we had to take everything from another table. We had to order our food and drink at the bar when she was next to us. She never approached or acknowledged us but she went to other tables. We just brushed this off. The service could be improved.

had a real great evening here the food was top tier we had the steak which was cooked perfectly the staff was always checking in making sure everything was ok they specialise in cocktails and there list was very extensive with something for every one i would warn people if you go there on a saturday night they have a dj playing music in the bar so if you want a quite meal avoid on a saturday night

Drinks were amazing, like nothing I've had before. Mixologists are fun and chatty, will make any drink exactly how you like. Great service Also, great service, my phone was handed in and got returned to me. Nice to have happen :)

My girlfriend and I had booked a table for food on Monday night and are very disappointed with the service we received. We were seated for 30 minutes and were not given food menu’s, despite there being someone at the host stand and plenty of menu’s. When we finally caught the attention of a waitress to ask for a food menu she was rude and brushed us off. We then saw the waitress who was initially serving us stood at the host stand on her phone whilst we were still waiting to order. We have been to different locations before and never experienced this problem so we were left feeling very dissatisfied with the service.

I arrived here with my 2 cuban girlfriends for some cocktails and we had a amazing afternoon, we had Luke as a barman and he was fantastic !! He made us the most delicious cocktail, his customer service was impeccable! We love you Luke !!!!!! The cuban 🇨🇺 Team from Bristol !!!!!

Food and cocktails 🍸 were delicious. Staff were great couldn't do enough and they were very busy with a large party.

We booked for 6pm and arrived at 5:55pm only to be told that our table wasn't ready as the previous guests were still there, we could go to the bar and get a drink, but we had wanted the £60 menu with a bellini on arrival which we were told we could get, but we still had to stand there for 20 mins without a drink waiting for the table to be vacated and cleared. The restaurant itself had a few issues, the music was far too loud for the time of day, we couldn't chat as we couldn't hear each other speak. The toilets were probably the worst I've ever experienced in years in a bar in town, the stench of urine was unbelievable and we were gagging/wretching when we needed to visit them, we actually left earlier than we would've so we could use a toilet in another venue. We were unfortunately seated by the door, which was constantly left open and then broke so it wouldn't shut at all so we were sat in the cold. The food was sub-standard, the feta tasted like watered down Philidelphia spread, the turkey in the basket was so salty it was barely edible and the steak was about 50% fat and grizzle. And to top it off in the end we found a bottle cap in one of the cocktails. We really couldn't wait to leave, which was a shame as we visited before earlier in the year and really enjoyed the experience. Not sure what happened last night, it felt like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. This was all sent to their customer service 6 days ago and had no response, very disappointing as they obviously don't care.

This was the perfect meeting point for us and fellow couples After struggling to find seating in the bar area we asked if we could take a booked but empty booth but they showed us to the downstairs area which was completely empty - perfection! I’m a cocktail drinker and never drink the same drink twice, I also like to try things that are strange, first thing I picked has got to be my now favourite drink in the world! The plant pot picante! The barman checked first that I was happy to have this drink as I normally go for sweet drinks and he advised it was savoury Not only was the drink absolutely bangin’ but the staff interaction was faultless Can’t wait to come back and try more!

Fun way to drink cocktails... staff could be more engaging!

Went here for bottomless brunch on a Friday afternoon. Food came very quickly - before our drinks order actually. Food was alright, nothing mind blowing but then that’s not what you book a bottomless brunch for, is it? Service for drinks was slow. Standard Bottomless brunch includes 3 cocktails each. We paid for the upgrade for limitless but only had 4 and a Prosecco so really wasn’t worth the difference. Cocktails were decent quality but service was very, very slow. There was little atmosphere, the tables were crowded together and it was far too loud to actually have a conversation or catch up as we had planned, even though you are seated separate from the main bar area. I’ve been here for drinks on a night out before and it’s been okay, always very busy but that’s not a bad thing. Pre-drinks before a night out maybe but Definitely would not recommend for brunch. Disappointing.

The food was nice. Cocktails were lovely. Upgraded to the bottomless option, first 3 cocktails came out quickly, 4th ones sat on the bar for a good 15mins before they bought them out, I asked at 1 point if they were ours and could I just take mine (I was categorically told no I couldn't they would be bought over), it was then a further 5 mins before they were served, and as soon as they handed them over told us time was up. So be aware that the bottomless option only gives you 1 extra cocktail, so it basically isn't bottomless!!! It's still good value for money, but please don't assume customers are too stupid to realise the games that were being played. Deposits of £10 each had been paid in advance, but they still tried to charge us £40 each in addition to the deposit! Service charge of 20% was added automatically to the bill, when asked to remove it so that everyone could tip what they wanted the bar maid proceeded to question and argue, so subsequently they ended up with no tip but they did get £40 from people's deposits who didn't show. Eventually, another lady came to finish taking the bill money, and she was great.

Amazing food, beautiful drinks and menu. What stands out is the lovely, attentive staff who are working really hard in a high pressure and loud busy environment. We were constantly being offered more drinks/food and were never left waiting for service. This is something that is really important to me, they did so good. The staff provide amazing customer service. My *only* negative & reason for 4 stars: The music is way too loud! We came at 6.30pm and the music was blaring so loud that you cannot have a conversation. For context it’s a Thursday not a weekend. To be honest I couldn’t wait to get out of there after 2hrs. Maybe I’m getting old????😆

Nice atmosphere and good service. Had a nice hour or so there with a couple of drinks.

I recently had a great night out with friends. The drinks were top-notch; I especially loved the Dead Red Zombie and the Hipflask Marg. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, especially Daisy, who made our experience even better. While the atmosphere was a bit wilder in the Colmore venue and we preferred the vibes in Brindly place, the service was fast and spot on in both. Overall, it was a fun and unique evening across the two venues.

Have visited twice this year when in Birmingham to try the famous cocktails, the ones I have tried have been delicious and dangerously easy to drink. The bar staffs show on the bar making your cocktail of choice is worth the visit alone. The making of the cocktails that I have tried is on par with the taste of them so would highly recommend if u in the area. Haven’t eaten here so can’t comment on the food, will be visiting again when I’m next in the city👌

The Alchemist on Colmore Row left much to be desired during my recent visit. The overall experience was disappointing due to the poor quality of food and shockingly arrogant service. From the moment we arrived, it felt as though the staff were dismissive, which set a negative tone for the afternoon. The food itself failed to impress. Portions were alarmingly small for the price, leaving me questioning the value for money. One particular example was the fries – priced at over £9 for two tiny portions. It felt excessive and unjustified, especially given the underwhelming taste and presentation. Beyond the food, the service was a major letdown. The staff came across as aloof and unhelpful, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere that dampened the entire dining experience. Despite the restaurant's trendy reputation, the quality of both the service and the food fell far below expectations. While the venue’s aesthetic might appeal to some, it is difficult to overlook the significant flaws in service and value. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, The Alchemist on Colmore Row failed to deliver on even the basic expectations. For those seeking quality food, reasonable portions, and attentive service, this restaurant may not be the best choice and will not attend again.

Expensive but you cannot not like it

Popped in for a drink and some of their lovely fresh scratchings with my daughter and granddaughter. Welcoming and friendly bar staff and a lovely atmosphere.

Buena comida, música alta, difícil hablar con amigos por la música. Otro problema fueron las luces colgantes bajas, golpearon mi cabeza 3 veces, por favor, levántalas un pie. Por lo tanto solo 4 estrellas.

Pobre, cócteles con la mitad de los ingredientes faltantes y planos, el personal aunque agradable estaban lejos de los mixólogos, es con mucho el peor alquimista en el que he estado. Lástima que realmente lo esperaba. Si quieres unos cócteles mal hechos muy caros este es el lugar para ir. Me habría quejado, pero el personal se reunió con un hombre quejándose de que su valor de 50 libras en cócteles eran planas y faltaban ingredientes también... Me suena familiar.

Brilliant had a smoking cocktail for £10

Solo un caro y ruidoso Weatherspoons, fuimos aquí por algo de comida y bebidas un sábado por la tarde. Qué error, apenas había personal y el bar estaba lleno de matones muy borrachos y drogados. Tan contentos de no haber traído a nuestros hijos adolescentes con nosotros, que no es un lugar seguro para una familia para visitar. Ni siquiera nos quedamos a comer, terminamos rápidamente nuestra primera bebida y nos fuimos. Hablé con unos amigos que habían visitado anteriormente y todos tenían la misma experiencia, y todos dijeron que no volverían.

Amazing cocktails, very good food. Only issue was the music was slightly loud for mid-day Saturday.

One of our favourite places to eat on a shopping trip. We usually eat off the lunch menu as it is a smaller meal and includes a soft drink. The choices are good and the food is amazing. The staff are great and the atmosphere is relaxed. A great place to stop if you are in town.

I’m leaving this review for Ella, she is our favourite person at Alchemist Birmingham colmore row. She always doo the best service for us and everyone else, she never rest for a minute, she always working hard and doing something. The hospitality and quality of work she provides us is unbelievable and I have no words to express my love towards her! Thank you Ella for being you 😘

Went out for drinks with friends good atmosphere , good service overall impressive

Visitamos este bar un viernes a eso de las 3 pm esperando celebrar mi cumpleaños con cócteles antes de una comida. Lamentablemente esto no fue posible. Cuando entramos en la zona del bar había un gran grupo de personas alrededor de la zona del bar, todos haciendo cola para tomar algo. Entramos y encontramos una mesa y decidimos nuestros cócteles y mi esposo se dirigió hacia el bar (donde la cola no se había movido desde que entramos). 25 minutos más tarde seguía en la cola. No vine a la ciudad a celebrar mi cumpleaños para sentarme en un bar sola sin beber, así que decidimos irnos a otro lugar. Había 2 chicas corriendo, haciendo cócteles y otras 2 chicas serpenteando reemplazando vasos o limpiando mesas mientras unas 20 personas rodeaban el bar esperando por bebidas. Este lugar necesita organización. Una de las chicas podría haber proporcionado fácilmente servicio de mesa, mientras que tres empleados podrían haber hecho cócteles, evitando la acumulación de personas alrededor del bar y asegurando que las bebidas se sirvieran en orden. Tristemente improbable desperdiciar mi té para visitar este lugar de nuevo.

Visitó el restaurante la noche del concierto de Diljit. El servicio fue genial, tristemente perdí el recibo, así que no puedo recordar el nombre de la señora impresionante que nos sirvió. Ella fue más allá con su servicio incluso puso canciones de Diljit para ponernos de humor para el concierto. La comida era buena también.

Very nice restaurant, with nice music and atmosphere. There are many interesting cocktails and drinks that cannot be seen and tasted elsewhere. Delicious food is also available. I recommend.

Little on the pricey side, but fab service and cocktails are fun and tasty!

My wife and I really like this spot for tasty bites and great cocktails. It was right around the corner from our hotel so we came here frequently during our time here. Our faves include the french dip sandwich - not traditional but very good - the bang bang salad w/ chicken and the fish & chips. The cocktail list is super creative as well, but I wish they had Guinness on tap instead of in a can, there is no comparison! Sorry for some reason I didn't take any pix. Anyway, all the people here are super nice too. Go!

I love the concept of this cocktail bar, some of the drinks come with little keepsakes, and they're definitely showy. Some on fire, some with bubbles, some with smoke.

I have never been so offended in all my life! Just because we called out the bouncer on his absolute appalling behaviour on a gentlemen asking for money, which we were able to handle in a polite manner, he took offence on this, without showing us and decided to tell the bar staff not to serve us! We called him and the manager out on this and the manager (questionable manager) said that we were sober and not offensive but she had to stand by her staff…. I am appalled at the lack of back bone of the so called manager and the complete abuse of the bouncer who couldn’t even look me in the eye and disappeared when we questioned the decision. We were sat outside having a quiet personal conversation about someone who has recently deceased. There was no loudness in fact we were extremely quiet in our thoughts. I am appalled and will never step foot or spend a penny in any of your bars. You need to have a good look at your door staff , they are a joke! I think he was more upset that we didn’t buy drugs off him that he was obviously doing on the door given that his mate had a set of scales on his lap. Drug den, keep away. Get rid of you door staff, get people who are more honest, even the barman laughed and thought it was a joke! What an appalling place !!!

We eat and drink here, at least once a month, but this was our first time having breakfast. The portion size was generous, and the food was delicious.

BMF Rooftop party was epic, lively venue

MANAGER there called the police and made a false police report. I lost my phone and he did not want to help. He lied to the police and when they came no arrest was made because none of the things he lied to police about were happening. I just want my money back now and will never come to an Alchemist bar again!

We didn't get any food, just a round of quirky cocktails! We all enjoyed what we chose, I had the screwball which tasted just how the icecream does, as I had hoped! The only slight issue I had was the music was a bit too loud for 4pm on a Sat afternoon, but that's just my opinion and I am old at 30 😂

Came for the first time and it's a very nice place tbh, had a few cocktails, the classic Mojito and a Gin-ger Kick which for me was great as I love ginger. We were a party of 7 and we eventually got asked to be a bit more quieter as apparently we were being loud over the music playing which I find hard to believe, unfortunately it's our general bunch with 7 people we are gonna talk over another and even swear in our convos it's just us tbf. But place is lovely, staff lovely and the drinks were fantastic, mens toilets need sorting though with only being 1 toilet itself and that being out of order that's not ideal if you needed more then a wee.

been several times now for their bottomless brunch and love it! I have the smashed potatoes and sunny eggs with sausages and my partner loves the chicken and waffles. Just wish there was more cocktail choice as they’re lovely!

Been here a few times and the wacky cocktails always look really impressive but to be fair, they’re not for me and one then as a bit of a gimmick. Tonight we joined a group of friends for a birthday. It was reasonably busy but honestly, what impressed me was that the staff were so incredibly helpful , efficient and friendly despite being faced with a never ending queue of customers at the bar. I was even thanked for leaving a tip for our round of drinks. Honestly, this level of customer service seemed like a thing of the past so congratulations to The Alchemist for delivering great service.

The bar has a fantastic atmosphere, complemented by a stylish interior and attentive staff. The drink selection is impressive, featuring a range of creative, eye-catching and delicious cocktails.

Cocktails are absolutely delicious and well made. A very extensive menu to choose from. Watching the cocktails being made is the best part of the experience. My only negative point is the music was a little too loud which made it very difficult to have a conversation.

So we go in, it’s warm and buzzin’ Dj is mixing well! Customers are drinking and dining enjoying themselves - it’s a nice atmosphere. My friend keeps saying “it’s alright in here isn’t it?” He said it like 3 times. I order a couple of drinks, bar staff is decent and serves me quite quickly. We take a seat and ask for a menu from the smiley faced food service staff. She returns, we order food which arrives shortly after - job’s a good’n or so I thought… Half way through the meal I go to the gents, on my downstairs I see another smiley faced food server coming up, I greet her with “hi how’s it going?” She walks straight through me like I didn’t exist! I didn’t hang about as I needed to use the toilet. I return to my table and continue eating and drinking. Then I notice 3 servers hanging around us doing nothing. One of them returns with the bill, puts it in front of us and walks off. Bearing in mind I’m still eating and drinking - I didn’t ask for the bill. 5 mins go by and another sever comes over and says sharply… “you are sitting where my next booking is, can you finish up and stand somewhere else”. How Bloody rude was that! I was still eating and drinking, I hadn’t decided if I wanted a sweet to add to my meal, but this server wasn’t smiling this time. I said where’s the reserved sign on the table, she said we don’t use reserved signs. So how am I, a customer, supposed to know that they need the table? Then to top it all the server that blanked me when I said “hi” comes over and literally demands the table as her next customers are waiting. I told her I wasn’t moving until I’d finished eating and drinking. Is this how Alchemist trains its staff? I’m a paying customer sitting infront of you willing to spend more money and you want me out so you can serve someone else. That’s ridiculous! Alchemist your food service staff need monitoring, I actually am a member of staff at a hospitality University around the corner! We don’t train our students like that!

We went in for a drink, quick service and the bar attendant was very nice and friendly. However, there was an Asian employee who was sat on the same side of the bar as us on his laptop not sure if he was the manager but the way he spoke to the bar attendant in front of customers was ridicule. Note for the guy, don't speak to staff in a such a rude manner in front of customers, specially when the bar attendant was so lovely. It made us feel awkward as customers.

Fine drinks in a traditional atmosphere.

Wasn’t the biggest fan, drinks were pretty average and the barman kept on telling us the drinks we wanted was crappy and should pick something else. We had preordered drinks as we were 9people but had no luck as they didn’t have any communication from head office regarding this. Not sure I will bother to return.

Went for brunch. Staff were friendly and the food was nice but service very slow especially considering you only have a 90 minute slot. Also a couple of the visual type cocktails didn’t actually do what they were supposed to. Don’t upgrade to the bottomless as there’s no way you will get more than 3 cocktails in with the speed of the service. Also disappointing that there is only 6 cocktails you can choose from fur the brunch menu.

Pre-dinner drinks here last night, we were eating around the corner at Goucho Nice setting Very busy Big group of us so glad we’d booked a table Cocktails ok - a lot felt a bit gimmicky and were a bit style over substance (eg the laver lamp and the colour changing one - which reminded me in terms of colour and taste of dentists mouthwash when you’ve had a filling :D) Good fun nonetheless I have to say the table service was really really good

Visited on a Wednesday night, fairly quiet but meant we didn’t have to wait long to be served, it also didn’t have an impact on ambience of the bar. Top notch cocktails, as always.

Amazing cocktails, obviously! Very busy and hard to find a seat, I recommend booking if you're going at the weekend! On our Saturday night visit took about 20 mins to be served at the bar but worth the wait! Staff are so nice and very knowledgeable about their craft. Bit too loud for me personally but definitely a fun place to go.

Been here a number of times with both customers and friends. It’s a nicely decorated building. Staff are never overly friendly, always seem to be going through the motions. Cocktails however are hood and they always impress customers. The tables are sometimes dirty/wet when you arrive snd you do need to catch someone to get it cleaned as they seem to be slow on that! Generally a good place, but it could be great with fine tuning.

On entry was asked for ID from guy on the door.Rather surprising considering I am 61 and my husband is 59.People behind were’t asked.Later decided to go outside where couple next to us weren’t drinking other than their own Coke bottles and looking after their dog.The guy on the door was basically letting any passer by just sit outside and do whatever they liked.An awful experience.Cannot believe the management would condone this behaviour by their staff.Terrible!!!

Absolutely loved it here, the prices are extremely reasonable and the theatre of it all makes for a great night. I can't remember his name but the excellent cocktail creator made the whole night for us. Loved the experience and I am already planning another visit.

Let me get this straight; the alchemist is great. The cocktails are great, the food is great and the staff are incredible, but coming here late in the evening kind of sucks. You want a lil snacky snack with your 10 out of 10 cocktail, but you can’t because the kitchen is closed. Even the lovely bartender will express that it’s bloody insane that they can’t just give you a packet of crisps. I’m drunk. I require sustenance. The food here is incredible, but there should be snacks available after the kitchen closes. Just give me some wasabi nuts or something. I just need something in my stomach after all of the dead red zombies. I wish to live.

Amazing food, and the cocktails to die for, this was a real treat for me and my daughter’s birthday and we wasn’t disappointed. The Alchemist is also in London which I wouldn’t mind going to, just so I can have another one of those cocktails that look like oysters.

Walked in and straight back out. I understand these places ramp things up come the evening time but I emailed several times explaining about we was coming for our first time with my 8 year old daughter. I emailed first to double check this was suitable as I was told their this place is kids friendly and their is a kids menu and she is allowed till 8pm. We booked a table for 5.30.I wanted to go as my daughter loves science which made it appealing for all of us. HOW WRONG WAS I. This place is NOT suitable for any child and age. The music was absolutely blaring at 4.30pm and couldn't hear each other speak. I could state about 100 things why this is not suitable for children but the biggest problem I have is that I was told by email from the alchemist that this is fine and she will enjoy it. I'm extremely dissapointed. The atmosphere was like it was about 1am in their so you can probably imagine what it was like and if anyone thought that was OK for a 8 year old or even a 14 year old you would be totally classed as bad parents. Was really excited to go and how dissapointed we all was

Last night I hoped to go to the Alchemist for cocktails with some friends. I was with my brother and another friend, it was the start of the night, around 8.30pm, we'd not been to another bar, this was going to be the first place we had hoped to go to. The door man did not let me in as he said he thought I'd been drinking to much. I was shocked, other people that were behind me in the line to get in also looked shocked to. I remained very polite and explained we had not been anywhere but he didn't want to know. The experience was awful and embarrassing. We crossed the road and were treated very nicely when was sat at the bar at The Hotel du Vin. The bar there was very welcoming and we sat chatting to the bar staff there for most of the evening whilst enjoying the cocktails they made. The door men at the Alchemist definitely need to be spoken to, there were awful.
