The Alchemist Brindleyplace in Birmingham

Un hallazgo fantástico. Mi bezzie y yo estábamos en un fin de semana femenino y queríamos comida de calidad y un ambiente divertido y eso es lo que encontramos. Recibido por el personal de la puerta con una sonrisa y dirección, al encantador Dave el anfitrión. Empezamos con un clásico desayuno martini y un "momento de bombilla" que tenía un gran teatro cuando llegó humeante en un matraz estilo laboratorio. Luego en la selección de alimentos. Tengo alergias inusuales y el personal estaba hiper concentrado en asegurarse de que tuviera una buena comida, sin hacerme sentir como una irritación. La comida era increíble. Cocinado bien, ingredientes de calidad y servido con una sonrisa. Lo más destacado fueron los calamares que eran suaves y en un revestimiento encantador. El menú estaba lleno de opciones para cada paleta. El lugar era acogedor para todas las edades y tenía algo para todos. Gracias a todo el equipo por hacer nuestra noche tan divertida.

Drinks are aesthetically impressive as well as tasting good. The vibe is immaculate, exactly as advertised, if not better as the specialty of chemistry-themed alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks is executed brilliantly with mixology finesse by the staff. Also hosts live music which is a nice touch, highly recommend 👍

The place was really nice and the food was delicious. The taste of the cocktail is still in my mouth. Staff was very polite and friendly.

Wow, we went before a gig.. the food, staff, drinks and atmosphere was brilliant. Been to manchester one and food isn't that good, so didn't think it would of been, but waaw! Best meal ive had in long time, can't wait to return.

Brilliant atmosphere, great food, cocktails pricey, have to tell staff to remove service charge everything we bought drinks. We preferred to leave a tip instead. Would definitely go back. I love the theatre of the cocktail making.

Honestly, this was one of the worst bar experiences we’ve ever had. The cocktails were ridiculously overpriced, and for the price, you’d expect something amazing—or at least decent tasty. But nope, they weren’t even as good as the ones you can get at other places for less money. The whole vibe was just disappointing. It felt like they were trying too hard to be fancy but forgot about quality. Definitely wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money here.

I just had the best meal out! The food was incredible—swapping tortillas for lettuce wraps was a game-changer for me as I'm trying to keep it low carb. Daisy, our server, was so bubbly and made the experience even better. Plus, a sweet little surprise for my wife's birthday made our evening feel really special. Can't wait to come back!

Unable to find our booking at first, but managed to find us a table. Food was good value but the real problem was the music..it was very very loud. Even the staff couldn't hear us ordering food without having to scream to be heard! We had very little conversation for this reason. I'm all for a DJ on a Saturday night, but not at 5.15pm when people are trying to order food and eat! Good food ruined by ridiculously loud DJ set..

Went to the bar for my birthday. We have been before so we knew that this is a good spot the security guard was extremely rude to us (also didn’t even know he was a guard and couldn’t see his badge etc) he refused us on cos my partner was rude - even though she just walked passed due to us not know he was the guard- we was super rude and ruined that night

I just had a fantastic night out! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the crispy shrooms and prawn lollipops – so fresh and full of flavour. The drinks were spot on too, really well presented and definitely value for money. Service was top-notch, with a friendly vibe that made the evening even better. Can't wait to come back!

Great atmosphere, good food and a friendly service

Amazing choice of cocktails 🍸 lovely atmosphere and not too busy on a weekday evening. Cocktails are quite expensive but taste amazing!

Great venue in the heart of Brindleyplace. Great upbeat music, lively and energetic atmosphere, friendly people. Awesome theatrics at the bar. Average cocktail price for one is £12 - £15. Well worth the visit and grab a proper cocktail with real ingredients made by professionals.

My wife and I went here for after dinner drinks with some friends on Saturday night. The music was great so we ended up staying for a few hours and sampled several cocktails. All were great and some very interesting with smoke, bubbles and flames! Our personal favourite was the Brulé vous!

Positives Staff were very welcoming, smiley and friendly. Cerese in particular was very warm, polite and inviting. The restaurant looked aesthetically pleasing, appearing clean and tidy throughout. The cocktails remain very tasty and look great Opportunities The food seems to have gone downhill from years past. In this current climate it’s definitely sensible to stick to a small menu to reduce overheads but I feel the menu definitely needs some inspiration if Alchemist is going to survive in this incredibly challenging economic climate. Overall, the Alchemist Brindley place remains a welcoming and good looking place to visit. However, the food on offer could benefit from inspiration / invigoration. Este lugar es imprescindible. Me encanta el filete y este lugar tenía el mejor filete filete que he tenido en mi vida! El entrante de papas fritas de halloumi fue igualmente increíble. Los cócteles que fueron la razón por la que fuimos inicialmente eran súper divertidos e increíbles también! La maja del servidor era genial e hizo la experiencia de primera clase! Muy recomendable!

Ruby was such a delight, the cocktails were wonderful, very creative drinks from the menu but having such a smiley, happy face at the front makes all the difference!

Very friendly venue with fantastic staff, Abi, Daisy, and Alex were amazing, very insightful with suggestions and great to talk to. The drinks are a work of art and somehow taste even better than they look. The atmosphere was very relaxed and fun on the weekday afternoon I visited, so 100% advise a visit!

A lovely day out with the girls, was served by ruby who was fabulous having only completed 2 shifts at the Alchemist. The food was delicious and the drinks were fantastic. Would definitely come again.

Food was amazing, service was top tier, Tino was exquisite serving staff, great ambience and genuinely a pleasure and more relaxed vibe than their Nottingham Branch. On a Sunday it was dead so if you like quiet, you can just walk in.

Tino, our server was fabulous! She spent time recommending cocktails for our group and was so friendly and funny too! The food was really good and we would highly recommend! 😁

Pedí un cóctel específico para mí y mi mamá y agregaron hielo seco que no es un hecho con este cóctel. . pensé que era un buen toque, ya que estábamos diciendo que queríamos que se vieran bien! Mi marido me dijo que no. ¿Por qué pagaríamos por pararnos en un bar para pedir una bebida para llevar a una mesa nosotros mismos? Siempre vienen aquí disfrutar de bebidas pero mal sistema

Recently, my friend and I came to this place for brunch and were very pleased! We were greeted very warmly, and we immediately felt a cozy atmosphere. The staff was excellent - special thanks to the waitress Abi for her wonderful service. The food was delicious and we had a great time. Definitely We'll be back again!

Staff were very friendly, polite and professional. We attended for Brunch, drinks were very nice, highly recommend. Sadly my experience was ruined by a member of staff spilling glasses which smashed and cut my arm. I was truly insulted to be greeted with the bill to be paid in full. Maybe communication was lacking due to the place being quite busy. Do not want to discredit any staff on site as I have said before all were great, they presented me with an antiseptic wipe and plaster for my cut arm. I found the food very average

Our last evening in Birmingham we had dinner at The Alchemist. On the recommendation of our daughter who had eaten there the night before. It was really delicious and the service from Daisy was super nice, which made us feel immediately at home.

Visited here for the first time last night and will definitely return. Server was lovely think her name was Abbie? But she is a credit to your team, professional, friendly and so helpful. Definitely made the visit much more pleasurable. Food also fantastic and martini in a bottle cocktail was amazing looking forward to a future visit.

First time back in Birmingham in 20 years (as now live in Australia). What a fun time I had with my sister celebrating her birthday. What made it so much fun was the very experienced and informative barman. The cocktails were AMAZING. Not only did they taste great, the whole experience of watching them being made was so much fun.

Very loud music, but great food and staff!

Our food,drinks and service was definitely recommend 5🌟 just the music was alittle loud you can hear people having to shout over the music 🎶 just alittle less might be more for atmosphere 😀 apart from that we would definitely recommend👍

If you're sciencey in any way, this is definitely a pit stop to make for you. Cocktails are all at least £10 each. All well made and mixologists very knowledgeable.

Food is good but, not good value for the price. Drinks are quite dear too. The bao bun starter I had, had one piece of chicken on each bao bun about the size of half a fish finger at the front, the rest of the bao bun was empty. The main - afc flatbread contained less than half a chicken breast. I wouldn't come here again, as I can get better value meals and drinks elsewhere. Photo below of my £16 main.

We had a great time! The drinks were fabulous & the food was good. What really made the difference was the staff- despite being very busy they were all friendly & very efficient. We were very lucky to be greeted by Ben, who really got our visit off to a great start, then by Abbie, their service was amazing throughout. Me and a mate were in Birmingham for a show, and needing a bite to eat before the curtain rose, we stumbled upon The Alchemist. Honestly, I wasn't expecting Birmingham to be so buzzing on a Wednesday afternoon – it had the vibe of a Friday or Saturday night in most other cities! The Alchemist itself is a bit of a hidden gem. Tucked between bustling outdoor terraces, it's easy to miss – the entrance is just a small doorway leading upstairs. Once inside, though, it's a different story. The restaurant was clean, inviting, and thankfully, not as packed as the outside options. The food was decent – not the best steak I've ever had, but definitely not the worst, especially considering the price. I get the feeling their cocktails are their real stars, though. The atmosphere had a kind of "date night" feel to it, with a touch of mystery – a good spot to impress someone new.

Cocktails we had were nice - we had 4 - was a bit busy at the bar when we ordered, so whilst my wife sat at a table, I witnessed the 'theatre' at the bar, meaning my wife missed out on all the smoke and bubbles happening between drinks being made and then me taking them to the table....

We went there for drinks. I had gone to The Alchemist first in Edinburgh. So, it was great to see this in the city. We each had a different cocktails and they were all crazier and fun. They also make normal cocktails with no special effects. The bartender was really nice, let us take pictures and videos and have us instructions as to how to drink it.

What a total comparison to your Colmore Row venue!!!!. Ordered a Screwball & Bubblebath from here, The Presentation & lack of taste of alcohol It looks like it's ran by amateurs.The bubblebath didn't bubble!! & the Screwball looked like it was put together by a 4 year old. Won't be darkening it's doorstep again with poor quality cocktails.. overpriced & cheekily asked for gratitude!! How about a tip in presenting cocktails that are worth drinking???. Very poor experience & for a Satuday afternoon which wasn't busy.

Went for my partner's birthday brunch and we had an absolutely fantastic experience! Service was amazing, staff went the extra mile to ensure vegan dietary requirements were met and kindly catered to all our needs. Food was delicious, and the drinks were divine (and most certainly bottomless, my head's been reminding me of that today!). Such a lovely atmosphere, perfect for our birthday celebrations and catching up with friends. Simply cannot fault our experience, great value, and a quality selection of drinks to 'experiment' with! Massive thank you to all the staff and management for such a wonderful time, and a big thank you to Abi for looking after us, you're a star! We will most certainly be back! 😊🥂

Very busy but lively, reduced tapas menu hence losing a star as there wasn't much choice in tapas dishes sadly, but it's not everyones taste, service was prompt and courteous

This would have been a wonderful experience if not for one member of staff. There was a tall man in glasses wearing an alchemist apron who was extremely rude and patronising to us, and quite frankly both my partner and I felt he was racist. All of the other staff were excellent, but sadly this one person ruined the meal. Food was decent, drinks were good, and with the boundless bottomless brunch the value worked out well.

Busy but we got a table, drinks were good, the display was great and staff were very friendly! Definitely a place to go for a celebratory cocktail, atmosphere suits!

Trendy bar, with a focus on cocktails with a show. On the expensive side (smaller cocktails), but definitely worth a visit.

Went for bottomless brunch for my 18th, served by Jayde. Experience was wonderful, service was on it and really very friendly. Food was good (and very needed) - had the chicken and waffles and potato with eggs. Drinks were gorgeous, strong, flavoursome and exciting. Would recommend for a lovely day out with friends

Visited for food and a drink before a concert. The atmosphere was buzzy but the food was nothing special. Ordered starter sharer then duck salad. Husband ordered beef sizzler (fajitas basically) when his arrived it was breaded chicken. He actually said it was like something you’d give the kids! They’d made a mistake but it’s always too late to rectify when others already have their food. We have no desire to return there are far better place to go!

Seconda visita in un anno e confermo il piacere di passare un pranzo in un locale moderno nel design e innovatore nel menù, che prende spunto dalle diverse tradizioni internazionali senza sbavature. Ottimo il bento box per i bimbi, con chicken stripes e altri sides. Succulento il chicken in a basket ma soprattutto al top del gusto c'è la picanha steak, favolosa nella materia prima, nella cottura e nell'abbinamento delle salse. Buoni i dolci, servizio molto cordiale.

Meal before a concert at Symphony Hall. Great atmosphere on a Friday evening. Drinks and food didn’t take long to arrive. Cocktails (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) were fab. Food was really nice. Staff were super friendly and professional. Well worth the tip. Definitely recommend this place and will be going back again.

Nice cocktail bar with a very extensive range to choose from. Unfortunately the prices are high and if you have ice then there's not much actual drink in your glass. Think of it as quality over quantity. You can't really afford to get plastered at this place.

Nice bar, tucked away in Brindley place. The cocktails were enjoyable but there was not much of an atmosphere, even though it was quite busy.

My friend and I popped in for a couple of drinks as we knew The Alchemist did drinks with a twist and we were both curious. And wow we were not disappointed at all! The bar is on the first floor above Las Iguanas but there is lift access. When we arrived it wasn't busy so managed to grab a seat instantly, and the server who took our drinks orders on the night was ever so friendly, credit to the staff as we couldn't fault them. Me and my friend had ordered the Raspberry Ripple cocktail to start off with, it didn't last very long at all as it was so nice. I then opted for the Bubblebath cocktail, again a beautiful drink which didn't last much longer. Finally we were curious over their version of shots, called Cosmic Oysters, which arrived in these gorgeous metal oyster shells, the flavour was almost like a lemon version of Benylin cough syrup, if you can imagine that, but it was really nice! A 10/10 visit and we both agreed that we would come back again on our next outing to Birmingham.

We went as a large group for one of the cocktail making masterclasses. I think I can speak on behalf of my group and say that it was an incredibly fun experience with everyone getting stuck in and with our instructor leading us well. Even when we were making a bit of a mess. The cocktails themselves were also fantastic and fun. I would highly recommend having a go at the masterclass here.

Fantastic afternoon of entertainment with Luke. Having never made cocktails this was a great introduction! From free pouring to dry ice and imaginative combinations, it was so enjoyable. Luke was a fabulous host, the whole package of fun and getting involved in a brilliant environment is well worth it.

Soft lighting, delicious drinks, nicely decorated. This place is a great location for drinks with friends. Only negative was kitchen shut hour earlier than stated on website and we were hoping for a late bite. Not the end of the world but had been looking forward to having something to eat along with more cocktails after a show nearby. Enjoyable experience and will return.

Great place … to eat and drink! Hubby and I dined at 5:30pm 12/11/23 the place was busy , great music and atmosphere. The staff were absolutely superb, super friendly and professional. The food was lovely we ordered the sharing platter and some sides and cocktails - just perfect and plenty! We noticed a couple plonked themselves down on one of the dining tables and clearly hadn’t reserved a table , staff politely asked them to move and re wiped the table down for the people that had reserved the table to eat - very impressed! We will definitely return …. Had a great time!

First time i visited here for food on a saturday afternoon. Was served by Krista who was welcoming and managed to get us a table, even though we had hadnt booked. Food was delightful and atmosphere was good 😎

Dove into the bottomless brunch on a Saturday morning; as it filled up, tryin' to flag down a staff member for more bevies turned into a full-blown ceilidh. The drink selection was no' bad, but the sizes were a bit on the dainty side, like tryin' to milk a midge. Good variety, though, and the presentation was as tidy as a Highland sunrise. Now, the breakfast wrap? Pure letdown. The bacon was pinker than a flamingo at a ceilidh and soggier than a Highland mist—looked like it never met the heat. Who enjoys bacon like that, a mystery to me.

The atmosphere in the alchemist is very nice and much better than other venues nearby. The service was good and friendly. The food tasted nice, but the portions were very small for the price and didn’t fill us up. We then ordered a drink each. Whilst they looked cool, they tasted disgusting, very bitter and alcoholic, and did not taste how they were described. Would not be in a rush to go back.

Overpriced, boring service, and overall disappointing. I had to order at the bar. Why was is there no table service. At these prices and a serious cocktail bar, I would expect that. And also, waiting at the bar when cocktails are being made up is very boring. If there are other people already being served and you have to wait for their cocktails to be done first- even more boring :( We went there to sit at a table and drink cocktails not stand at a bar. When given the price on the card payment device I was encouraged to leave one of the tips displayed. I was not comfortable with this and felt I had to tip. But why should I tip when I did all the work. I took the orders from my party, I walked to the bar, I waited while he made them all, and I took them to my table. Also, 2 of the cocktails had deteriorated by the time I got there. One popped (popsicle), one ice cold one had warmed up and the effect gone. Not recommended; you can get better bar evenings out for less money and less effort. The music selection was good (DJ) but the sound system is not great. Just overpriced and a bit lame. Not going back.

Came here Saturday with mom and sister. Booked a table to have food & drinks before the “Busted” concert ! (4-6pm slot) So glad we booked as brindley place was absolutely rammed busy everywhere. Was greeted by a really lovely guy. Our server “Shabba” was brilliant. Really cool, funny guy. Cocktail choice was huge - proper cocktails here, plenty of booze in them ! Food was delicious - chicken in basket & Halloumi flatbread ! It was so hot that afternoon, could see all the workers were suffering in the heat - but all of them were still smiling and attentive to their tables. Unfortunately all 3 of our party had hardly any cash on us, so couldn’t tip our server as much as we liked (if paying tip through card machine, they don’t get it direct), so I promised id give him a good review ! So this one’s for you Shabba!! Keep being you !! Top bloke !!!
