The food I felt was expensive. Smoked salmon starters were tiny and soup was not warm. Our friends thought that too much salt was used in the cooking of the steam and risotto dish too. On the plus side excellent bread and a beautiful dining room at the back of the pub which was quiet.

Food was lovely but service was poor with very long waits for food/drink orders/drinks. Despite calling ahead about bringing a cake we were not informed about a “cakage” charge of £7 a person. Despite not opting for this we were still charged for it but thankfully they did take this off the bill with no fight.

Went for a Sunday roast and the food came 2 minutes after we ordered so we didn’t even have drinks. We were then rushed off the table an hour after we sat down. The whole thing felt like a sprint and was not relaxing at all. Thought it was standard practice to book a table for 2hours?

Visited purely because my friend and I needed something to eat. We were both chuffed to bit's with our accidental find. The venue is cool and the food absolutely stunning. I had the venison and I was in food heaven. 20/10 to the chefs! The service was average unfortunately. Our waitress was really inattentive and wasn't hugely friendly at all. It's a shame as this could have been a 5 star review. If you love food then pay a visit.

Sunday lunch was mediocre - poor value for a vegetarian lunch with a really poor wellington with undercooked pastry and small portions. Roast vegetables were only just warm. The staff were also pushing us off our table - arriving 25 mins before the end of our booking to share that if we want pudding we would have to eat in the garden, to then come back five minutes later with the bill without us asking.

We had booked indoor dining and we were given a table in the garden. Drinks took approximately 45 min to come after asking 3 times. Level of staffing for the number of people was really unfair on the staff and customers. Main courses came and one person on our table received theirs after all had finished. The soup was cold. The only thing that arrived on time was the bill.

I’ll start off by saying that the food was good, and the pub garden was very nice - that is what the 1 star is for. We sat down outside and ordered the pie to share, a pasta dish and a Scotch egg (all to come at the same time). The wait time of 30 minutes for the pie was written on the menu and of course, that’s was fine. After 60 minutes there had been no food, and no one checking in on us for food or more drinks, so one of our party checked on the foods status after flagging down one of the staff. They said they would check with the kitchen and reminded us that the wait time for the pie was 30 minutes - which was now somewhat irrelevant. Another 10 minutes passed and the same staff member was flagged down to which he very aggressively said he wouldn’t go back to the kitchen to check and we should just wait for our food. I was shocked at his tone and his attitude! The food finally came out 15 minutes later (a 1h 15 minute wait for a main course), to which we had to wait another 5 minutes for plates and a serving spoon for the pie. We were still missing a fork but just shared one for fear of getting another ear-full from the rude man with frosted tips who was clearly out of his depth. To be honest the whole experience left such a sour taste in our mouths that we weren’t really hungry. After finishing our food, no one came to clear our plates and when we asked for the bill - and it didn’t arrive for 10 minutes - we just walked to the front and paid. The whole situation could have been resolved by having a quick word with us and saying the kitchen was running behind, and have a couple of drinks on the house. It was the worst service of my 25 years living in London.

Lovely pub and nice setting. Unfortunately our dining experience was very poor. The mackerel for one of our group was uncooked and when it was returned to the kitchen it came back with the comment that it is not going to do you any harm, so no apology despite it being quite visibly raw. The serving staff were very good but very surprised at the attitude from the kitchen. I expect there is a captive market in Barnsbury given the charm of the pub but also can’t understand why they can’t get men’s toilets to flush leaving what can only be described as ‘sausage and mash’ in the toilet pan, not something that is very appealing in a restaurant.

The Albion is our local pub and it always looks great, so we have visited numerous times, but I can’t help feeling disappointed every time we go. The food is tasty, but it’s super over priced and the portions are small. The drinks are standard, but of course expensive and there is limited seating so you always have to stand. My main issue is that when you stand with your drink, you often get told off by the staff for standing in the wrong place - even in the back and front garden! The culture of the pub is just a bit pretentious despite the niceties of some staff members.

Grim, homophobic experience at The Albion last night - two of the men who work there (I assume one of them is the landlord, older dude with white hair) noticed my date and I and made comments such as 'oh god, there's two women kissing over there - oh dear' - followed by, 'oh no its probably not two women, wouldn't dare assume their gender these days'. Accompaniments were minimal, a couple of leaves of cabbage and 1 wedge of roast potato. Not great for a £26 dish… The fish and chips was slightly soggy and the burger was pretty ordinary. When we said we didnt, we were asked to pay and leave as they wanted the table for the next party. This was after 1 hr and 15 mins. We complained to the manager who said it was a miscommunication with the timings and that they thought we wanted our starters with our mains, but who has a side order of soup with a Sunday roast? They took the service charge off (which we weren't going to pay anyway) and gave us two of our drinks free so we didnt even all get a free drink. Don't waste your time or money going here.

I need to warn people that The Albion has a very draconian policy on reservation cancellations.I was forced to cancel a booking last Sunday as one of my children was very ill. Taking a vomitting child to a restaurant was not a good option for anyone. The pub does not answer the phone ( it goes to voicemail) and they claim both this message and the subsequent email were not received - both go to 'HQ' apparently and no one gets to hear of them. These were sent three hours ahead of the table reservation time. Despite explaining the circumstances the pub insists on taking a charge of 80 pounds - fair if you don't show but not in this case. So , if you wish to make a booking via Open Table, I would recommend equally good local pub/ restaurants who won't behave like this.

The pub itself is lovely and there is a great atmosphere. We went for a sunday roast and while it was decent, it was not worth the price tag. 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of parsnip, some roast potatoes, and the meat (or in my case the vegan option), plus a yorkshire. It felt a bit scimpy for the price. The vegan butternut squash wellington was fine, but the slice was small and it tasted overwhelmingly of truffle and not much else. I would recommend the pub, but not really the food.

We had been looking forward to coming here for a roast for a while, I don't know if it was because it's game day and the pub was super busy but we were barely acknowledged when we arrived and throughout our entire booking. Staff were rushing around not making eye contact with anybody and nobody was really looking after our table so we didn't manage to order until an hour after we sat down. The roasts are expensive and the price doesn't reflect the quality. The food was rushed to be cleared because they needed the table back so we had to insist on ordering dessert with the threat that we might have to move outside to eat it, the chocolate ganache was truly horrible in both presentation and taste. I rarely leave reviews and I've worked in hospitality my whole life so I feel for the team if they were understaffed but £150 for a table of three with no alcoholic drinks and having to beg to be served means I wouldn't recommend coming here and I won't be rushing to come back.

A small, tight, overcooked patty with a small amount of cheese and some iceberg lettuce with the chunky chips on a white plate looked more likely to found in a motorway service station. I queried it with a server but apparantly that's how it is supposed to be served. When most pubs have realised even should get some thought and care, this just seemed out of place. As did the experience when leaving. Three members of staff behind the bar not serving at that time and the server for our section walking towards us as we got to the door yet no one felt it polite to say a thanks or goodbye when customers are leaving. Overall quite a poor experience for a number of reasons when trying to have Sunday dinner and we wouldn't go back. Firstly, we were seated for a Sunday dinner right next to the main bar area on a very small table. Within about five minutes of sitting down the table was knocked into numerous times by customers waiting to be served at the bar, spilling our drinks. The tables here are far too small to serve main meals and when the bar is busy you are constantly being bumped into by customers waiting to be served. Server was generally quite rude and when finishing our starters he warned us that if we didn't also order our main meal soon then we should be aware the table would be reserved for customers after us in some thinly vailed threat that we might be kicked off our table half way through our main meals somehow. When I asked whether there was a chance we could be seated elsewhere in the pub to eat he simply pointed to two other members of staff who were seating people in the main restaurant area and told us we can go ask them. I appreciate that the pub was busy at the time but I would say that its' probably his job to do the admin behind seating customers. Finally, when we decided to leave after finishing our starters we received the bill which had a voluntary carbon contribution added. Although the price of the food and drink is not overly pricey, it is not cheap by any means so I would have though that the duty of reducing their carbon footprint would fall on the pub, rather than the consumer. It's worth adding that the website doesn't include any information on its carbon policy so I think then charging customers for something that apparently doesn't exist could be just another way of getting more money on top of the already quite expensive meal.

After taking our money they tell us there no room inside, have to stand in the garden in sun zero temperatures, 1/2 the patio heaters aren’t working & those that are working for low on gas. Pretty appalling, avoid.

I booked the private room at the Albion for a birthday celebration. Even though I have been to the Albion many times, I unfortunately would not reccomend it now after the expedience I had. When we arrived, we were told that we could either order all of our drinks on a tab or the guests could go to the bar and order their own drinks. Given that it was a large event, I decided that I would buy some drinks / food on the tab and then the rest of the guests could order drinks at the bar themselves As the night went on, it was clear that it was taking a long time for guests to order drinks from the bar and on the tab. For example, some guests found that they waited 25/30 mins to be served. The wrong drinks were also served. The food platters that we had ordered took a really long time to arrive too (even though these had been ordered in advance). A few hours later I was then told by the manager that we needed to order all of our drinks on the tab, otherwise we would not make the minimum spend. When I had arrived, I had not been told that all of the drinks had to be ordered on the tab, or that I should have told my guests at the bar that they were ordering drinks as part of our private room. What then ensued was the manager coming over every 15/20 minutes telling me how much of the minimum spend was left and how many more drinks I needed to buy. The whole situation was a real shame and really ruined the entire evening. I reached out to the Albion after the event but they did little in the way of an apology. We won’t be coming back.

Great food served by the sweetness and most wonderfully attentive staff. It was a first date and between me and you it went really well! The skate and risotto were delicious. Special thank to Joanne, our server. She give me a shot of her confidence to be myself (see photo). Thank you bo. See you soon!

The Sunday roast was just appalling . The lamb was all fat scraps , no meat at all. If i wasnt with my family i would have sent it back and refused to pay. Truly truly a shocker. What more thy had the cheek to dd, without asking a carbon fee. Having to pay a 12.5% service charge is now becoming the norm but adding an additional fee is just a piss take. I was so annoyed about the standard of the food i lost it and made them take it off. Never , ever again

Very disappointed sadly. A unimpressive burger for £18. A goodish wine list. Staff were friendly and service was quick. But felt like a little chef not a gastropub

If I could give it a zero I would! management is diabolical. Staff never last possibly because of the champagne socialists that run this establishment. They pride and joy is their employee of 28 years that is miserable, slow, rude and has zero customer service...

It was a busy Saturday at The Albion, the initial service was a bit slow, but we got there in the end. The food was good and we weren't hurried to leave the table.

Such a disappointment. Although the menu is relatively appealing the reality is tiny portions, cold food and careless cooking. A risotto dish arrived within minutes, with a skin on the sauce as it had cooled (how long had it been sitting on the plate waiting...

Second time, Great atmosphere and if you like game it’s a good menu for you. Unfortunately some dishes sold out, but that’s a good sign. Only negative was the wine just not as good as the food, of course that could be my choice but still at £50 + should be there. Not enough to put me off and will go again. Recommend trying the wine before you buy to be sure. Also service very good, which seems a rarity these days

Crowded, noisy - unsurprisingly for this location on an early Friday evening in late November. Slightly agressive groups of already liquored young men added to the atmosphere. I wouldn't come here again.

Avoid - baffled and baffling service, multiple hour wait for food. We ordered roast chicken; a normal portion is half a chicken but barely an eighth turned up. Prompting the (baffled) waiting staff resulted in another sad-looking eighth turning up on a side plate. Starters were good but definitely not worth the hour they took to turn up (after nearly an hour waiting to order). Not sure how this business is still solvent. Edit: thanks for the prompt response during I’m sure busy service. This was as agonising meal which tested the patience. Not sure the chicken was the main point of my review but to be specific the chicken only became a supreme once both parts were delivered (separately, after prompting) to form a leg and a breast. As I said, starters were good. Mains were fine, subject to chicken portionage, but had lost a lot of goodwill by the time we got them. Maybe better on a Tuesday.
