I booked a table for 6 for Lunch at The Admiral Nelson on Saturday 10th February. I was forwarded the Match Day Menu and we e-mailed or choice through to the venue 2 weeks in advance. Our table was booked for midday and we arrived 15 minutes early to a warm welcome by all the staff. Our table was ready and rather than have all the hustle and bustle of the bar, we were seated immediately and had the luxury of table service. We were asked what time we wanted or food served and we went for 12:30pm and or starters arrived on the dot. All of the food served was of a good quality and the staff were extremely polite and efficient. By the time we’d finished our lunch the Restaurant was full to capacity however even though we’d gone over our allocated time slot, we were not pressurised to vacate the table. We’ll certainly be returning in 2026.

We popped in after the Depeche Mode concert at Twickenham Stadium around 10:45. There was a DJ playing 80’s classics, some friendly locals and staff and a great drinks selection at reasonable prices. As more and more people arrived from the concert the DJ started playing Depeche Mode tracks and it soon became an unofficial after party. A great end to the night.

No atmosphere in the dining area. Went for a roast lunch. Menu had only two roasts on it and option of fish and chips and veggies option. So little choice really. Had the roast chicken which was half a chicken but it was quantity not quality as meat was dry and hard. Tried to drown it in gravy but gravy was tasteless. Described as coming with broccoli, carrots, parsnips, potatoes etc. Three almost julienne pieces of carrot, broccoli floret was yellow. Sorry but I won’t be eating there again!

Despite booking in advance, receiving confirmation of booking and then subsequently sending off food orders (easy enough as all 4 people had the same) the pub couldn’t find our booking and it went down hill from there. We showed our booking confirmation email and they weren’t convinced but “accommodated” us. I appreciate it was a computer error and not the staff working. It then took over 1hr 45 mins for food to start being served and we never even received the pudding despite paying for the 3 course set menu!! Then when pointing this out, one lovely girl working tried to apologise but was cut off by one of her colleagues who said there was nothing they could do and that we were lucky to be “accommodated” at all??!!!! Absolutely disgusting attitude from that individual and the food isn’t cheap especially when you don’t get served an entire course! I’m appalled because they are normally pretty good. Another member of our party also found the plastic wrap from the lamb shank on his plate so clearly they had cooked the meat in the plastic. Now I am no chef but I’m pretty certain that one is supposed to remove plastic before cooking.

We have been going to Admiral Nelson for years for pre-rugby games and have never left anything other than five-star reviews. Unfortunately, unless they change their menue we will not be coming back. Firstly, the price was hiked a massive 60% (that is on top of the expected and reasonable price increases for being a rugby day) - the set menu in a Fullers pub is now more expensive that, say, Benares which hold a Michelin Star and have three courses inclusing a wine pairing. Bonkers. Next, the food. The choice was really narrow and not the right sort. The portions were small - again, really poor value. Then I found large piece of melted plastic in my dish (from the end of the lamb shank) so clearly these are mass produced ordered-in dishes. It also made the dish taste of melted platic. The starters were, being generous, average at best and the deserts were devoid of taste and the sponges were dry. So, in summary, Hayley and the girls out front worked their socks off and were great as usual but the kitchen is trying to pretend to be something it clearly isn't which is a massive shame.

I booked a table for two so I could take my pensioner mother to the AB game in the Autumn Internations, and have a sit down lunch (and a few drinks) before the game. The booking process was, as always, streamlined. A couple of weeks before the game a mate asked if he could join us - Hayley sorted that right out. The week before (and this is really pushing it) another couple of mates asked if they could squeeze in - again, Hayley somehow managed to accommodate us. The service was simply brilliant - always coming over and grabbing the empties, asking us if we wanted any more. The food arrived on time (one order was wrong, but it looked so good we just dived in anyway) and was great and hot - just what you want before a game. I know people have a moan about match-days, but I almost didn't write another review because I don't want people finding out about this little gem. Hayley and the team of girls get a special mention. Cheers!

Came with the family this lunchtime and we all had roasts. It came relatively quickly and was hot. There was plenty of gravy and a large home made Yorkshire pudding. I am from Yorkshire and this was the closest to the Yorkshire puddings my mother used make. The rest of the roast was also very tasty (except the parsnips - but I don't like parsnips so gave them to my son). My wife and kids had sticky toffee pudding and they all agreed it was delicious. The service was friendly and informal, thanks Steve for looking after us.

OK, it took a little while to get round to the review - but was so impressed with the last visit I am about to book again. This was pre England v Saffers, and anyone who knows Twickenham on rugby days knows everywhere will be rammed and prices will go up. Simply supply and demand. I booked in advance, paid the depaosit and great comms throughout. The girls seving our table honestly could not have been more attentive or helpful, a real credit to the pub. The food was brilliant - especially as it was absolutely packed and a conveyor belt of dishes. Really was delicious and my group of 6 all had a great mea and great beer. Yes, it is more epxensive than normal - but match-days are not normal and overall really good value. We pre-ordered and I checked with them if I could have two starters with my main as part of the "three course" deal (as I don't eat puddings)- not a problem and 2 starters duly arrived - a real nice touch and proper old-fashined customer service. My one tip - do as we did, pre-book and pre-order the food for a specific time - it will be ready, fresh and hot.

Absolutely 10/10. Faaaaantastico !!!We were 7 and wanted to have a Meal and drinks in a not so manic overcrowded pub close to the stadium. I know it’s asking a lot, but we found it, the Admiral Nelson is the place. They succeeded in so many ways. Yes the bar was busy but if your eating they reserve you a table. On rugby day you need to preorder your meals from a special menu. Now when we arrived, we had great table but all the tables were good. We had table service for drinks and never had to wait long. The food quality was 10/10 and so reasonable for the price. £20 2 course / £25 3 course. Some had Pate to start, some had wings and some had lamb kofta. Followed by main course of fish and chips or steak and Stilton pie with mash. The food was amazing, like the quality of a top Restaraunt. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a great time and can’t thank the staff there more. It was Brilliant.

This was my old "local" many years ago so I looked forward to going back for a pint of ESB when visiting. The first sight was of an unattended bar. The barmaid came out of the backroom with mouth bulging .. unable to speak a few unintelligible sounds were accompanied by crumbs flying across the bar. After several attempts at swallowing were finally successful I accepted the apology knowing bar staff sometimes grab quick meals when too busy to have a proper break. My order of a ginger beer and pint of ESB was accepted and the ginger beer was taken from the chill cabinet. Turning the barmaid saw a regular approaching the bar and put my unopened ginger beer down, walked to the far end of the bar a pulled the local a pint. After the usual exchange of small talk the barmaid returned to pour out the ginger beer before pulling my pint.Half way full my pint was put down so the barmaid could talk to another local who appeared. A handful of radishes ( really ! ) Was passed to the barmaid and a chat began...... They were soon joined by the second younger barmaid and the pub was soon filled with cheerful banter. I'm still standing at the bar waiting for my order ... Ginger beer on the back shelf, ESB half filled and waiting below the pump. After a couple of minutes my patience runs out .. I return to my wife and we leave the two barmaids and "raddish man" to their conversation.Hopefully a regular or the owner will read this review and share it with those involved. I appreciate visitors do not always receive the same service as locals but this is not some remote country pub. If you're visiting say hello to the barmaid ( older with long dark hair ) and tell her why we walked out as we were unable to get served. Better yet if you know the owner tell him the staff are costing him customers and money.

I live just a few minutes from here but have rarely visited as I’m just not much of a pub person. However we went a couple of weeks back as there was live music. As I don’t regularly go to pubs I’m not entirely aware of drinks prices, but did think that over £12 for a mini (20cl)bottle of Prosecco and a pint of draught beer was pretty high for a pub. I’ve just returned from another pub gig and having bought the same drinks for a little under £9 I realise I was right the A N is grossly over priced. A general pub question: why have the TVs on when there’s live music? These 2 visits have reinforced the reason I don’t like pubs.

The waiter was apologetic and helpful and stressed that they could do extra additional vegetables and it would be nice. When the food arrived it really was just a plate of very bland and soggy vegetables with no sauce or gravy. 1 of us did have the beef which was chewy and tasteless. Diners at other tables were also not happy with their food. I am amazed that a cook/chef would not manage to offer a veggie option and also could let this poor food leave their kitchen.

Have visited this pub many times before on rugby days and have always had an enjoyable time. Myself and my brother visited this pub on Saturday night after the rugby and I ordered a pint of Guinness and an Amstel and it came to £11.50!!!! The pub was absolutely rammed with people trying to order drinks at the bar. Unfortunately somebody knocked over one of the drinks as soon as it had been poured. It was so crowded I did not see who actually knocked the drink over. I brought this to the attention of the bartender and he very rudely and aggressively said ‘not my problem, if you want another drink you’ll have to pay for it!’ I therefore ordered another drink. Whilst I appreciate it wasn’t the pubs fault that one of the drinks got knocked over, where is the customer service, especially at nearly £6 a pint? Furthermore the men’s toilets were out of order which was unbelievable!!!! Very unhappy and will not be visiting again!

I've lived in Twickenham for 9 years and am not really a pub person anymore. My daughter and I were at home but we wanted to go out and find somewhere not too far to have lunch.....We walked the entire length of Whitton high street and came to The Admiral Nelson. We decided to go in and take a chance on the food and drink for the first time. The locals look at new comers as if you're from outta Mongolia, but we're friendly enough! We ordered our food at the bar and took a seat.... the food felt as though it was taking an age to arrive but we were patient. It arrived! What an incredible presentation! My daughter ordered ham, egg and chips... which looked like no ordinary meal.... I ordered the fish and chips, which was fabulously delicious and again the presentation was first class. We actually felt as though we were in a country pub in Oxford! A lot of love went into the preparation and presentation of our food and I'd highly recommend you eat there! I'd be happy to visit again and order lunch or dinner.... thank you

A very good Sunday Roast made even better with a free pint of beer for Dads. Both deserts, a flourless brownie and a lemon drizzle tart were also excellent. Parking available which is handy in Mudeford and lots of tables outside.

Having been using this pub for over 12 years for pre and post game drinks on our visits to Twickenham I was saddened to see this great watering hole go down hill. In the past there was always plenty of staff to serve the masses but on this occasion there were only 4, take out the manager taking food orders and serving in the restaurant bar, that leaves 3, 1 of which still found time to text on his phone. We waited for 25 minutes to get served which is ridiculous. Several people decided not to wait and went elsewhere. Post match drinks and watch the FA cup final? Forget it !!!! The teles have been taken out !!! Where did the hog roast go too?

dopo quasi venti anni sono ritornato all'Admiral Nelson.

We ate here on a Saturday lunchtime (not on a rugby day). Firstly we ordered 3 pots of tea - 2 pots were covered in dust so they were sent back. I ordered food at the bar, one cheese sandwich on brown bread and 2 mozzarella and courgette salads. The sandwich came on white bread. One of the salads was for a gluten free person who is also allergic to cheese so asked for the cheese to be swapped for ham or chicken or avocado (anything else really). When it came it was just lettuce leaves and sliced courgette (not even finely chopped) and a couple of beans. It was such a boring salad - after complaining they brought some tomatoes. It was really expensive too. I was really embarrassed bringing my friends here and will never visit again.

We regularly visit Admiral Nelson when coming over for a rugby game at Twickenham. We always enjoy the place, but the main reason is the FOOD! High standard, big portions, their sunday roast is always prepared just the way we like it. Compliments to the chef. Will come back for sure.

A few days ago my husband and I visited Whitton and decided to go to The Admiral Nelson for our Sunday roast. In the beginning we didn't have high hopes, but to be honest the food was excellent. Who would have thought that you could get a meal of such a high quality in a pub. The service was good and what's most important we didn't have to wait for a long time to get our food. I'd definitely recommend this pub. Well done to the chef, it seems to me that he knows what he's doing. We're definitely coming back.

Very helpful, polite and friendly staff let down by expensive poor quality and quantity food. Being a Sunday we went just for something light to eat, opted for the starter menu, which was priced at £5 each item or 3 for £12 5 for £20. The selection was good We ordered 4 items, flat bread with humous. This was 1 piece of flat bread served on a grubby board with a spread spoonful of humour.Spicey meatballs (small 3), very dry and smothered in sauce.Chicken Sarah skewers, not bad but peanut sauce had a burnt taste.Greek salad, loads of red onions and vinegerett. 10 stale olives,a bit of tomato and cucumber with a smidgen of crumbled feta cheese. None of this worth £5 a portion let alone the £17 we paid. Drinks ordered pint of orange juice and lemonade. This couldn't be served as they had run out of orange juice. So had a J2o served in a warm pint glass. Chilean merlot was south African, served but nothing mentioned only realised on tasting. This doesn't matter as still nice wine however would have been nice to be given the choice. Apart from this we'll continue to go there for a drink as nice staff and drinks.

A mate and I visited the Admiral as a change from the usual Twickers pubs while on the way to the stoop. We called ahead from the train to reserve a couple of seats for Sunday lunch, which was dealt with in a very friendly manor with no hassle. we turned up got our beers and waited for 2 Sunday roasts, they arrived in due course my mates beef dinner looked excellent and proved to be as good as it looked. Unfortunately my lamb dinner was not much more than a couple of fork fulls of meat and fat on half a lamb shank bone! I brought it to the attention of my server, who in turn passed it to the manager. He was graciously apologetic saying it was not good enough and not up to standard,I was then given a beef dinner, complimentary, and offered , desserts, coffees, and a drink on the house, or bill was also reduced. The way we were dealt with was extremely friendly, efficient and a credit to the management,Thank you. We ended up with a good experience, would recommend the pub to others and will visit again on another match day.

Not a bad pub. Handy for rugby at Twickenham. There seems to have recently been a reduction in staff used on match days meaning long waits for a drink. 20 minutes is not uncommon.

We called before the England v France match. The place was heaving but we still got served pretty quickly by staff who are clearly well prepared for such numbers. My pints of Oliver's Islands Golden Ale were excellent. The London Pride seemed very popular as well. This pub just down from Whitton railway station is an ideal base for pre match and getting back on a train at Whitton after the match and more beer is a doddle.

This is a really nice pub with really friendly staff. I came here with my family for Sunday lunch and had a chicken roast. There was a large portion of chicken which was ok but pretty plain, it really could have done with some seasoning. The potatoes and veg really needed seasoning and the cabbage had a mayo dressing on it which was disgusting. My mother's beef roast and my brother's steak were cold. This pub has BT Sports and is a good place to go for drinks and to watch football. But food was overpriced and not very good.

Friendly staff working behind the bar, nice cosy pub with the fire burning. Nipped in for a rainy Sunday roast dinner and we weren't disappointed! The beef roast dinner exceeded our expectations, the meat was cooked perfectly, nice crispy roast potatoes, lovely mix of fresh vegetables with loads of tasty gravy. It was absolutely divine, would definitely visit again and the head chef even popped downstairs to make sure everyone was happy with their dinners! 10/10

What on earth is going on with this pub, are fullers trying to close it? Another new landlord who promises change but can't deliver. Another price rise, Not showing the recent England rugby games on t.v. despite being a real rugby pub & now it transpires that on days when there is a match at twickenham the pub will be serving sub-standard beers in crappy plastic glasses at £1.00 "MORE" than the usual price!!! thats a 25% price hike, and you can't even watch the game in the pub................What the hell is going on???? For being my local I must say this pub is disappointing! All the staff including manager seem way too young to handle this venue, clientele and events happening ! (Speaking from experience of seeing things unfold!)It is overpriced and unfortunately the staff have a don't care attitude ! It is probably due to the fact they plod on through the months and only really care about the busy times as in 'rugby season' when they more than meet their targets! What is a major concern is each and every time going in there we have noticed that the fire exit is PADLOCKED shut !!! This has been week in, week out for many months. That is illegal !!! It has been mentioned to staff in the past and a blasé attitude has been taken ! I hope someone does get through to them and hope it isn't on the rebound of something tragic!

Made a return visit to the Admiral Nelson for a meal with friends last evening, Fri 8th July, which we enjoyed, or would have done if it were not for the large crowd of noisy young families gathered in the dining area, which we had to shout over in order for us to have a conversation. Also, what seems to be the norm in this pub, the very young children with them are bored stiff with their "chattering" parents, so resort to using the furniture as climbing frames or else scrabbling about on the floor under peoples feet. Oh yes, one other thing we noticed was that one of the designated "FIRE EXITS" was "PADLOCKED SHUT"! Very much against the law unless I'm mistaken. For the love of god, this is a good pub, so why can't it be run properly. I don't have a downer on the Nelly, I would just like to see it being run right.

Booked a table of 9 (plus 2 small children) for my 30th birthday dinner. I had never been here before so this was a first visit for myself and others. On arrival the table was set. Beautiful pub and lovely decor throughout. We ordered our food & drink .. but unfortunately the food was really delayed as there was a miscommunication between the kitchen chef and the bar staff. The chef was unaware of a table of 9. Three adults were served first and then the rest eventually, and children served last sadly. Was not happy with the service (only of food) spoke to a man at the bar who refunded a few dinners and gave us all a free drink and apologised for the miscommunication between their staff. The situation was sorted and we left. Apart from the delay in food its a beautiful pub and the food was lovely. I would still recommend this pub especially for families, very friendly atmosphere.Kind regards

The landlady is keen on listening to customer feedback and this pub has improved as a result. Since I first reviewed this pub it has had a full refurbishment which gives it a much better layout. It also has a significantly improved food and drinks menu. Its dominant location means it is the centre of attention for big match days and local events so it can get packed out.. At it's best this is a friendly, roomy pub with a really nice restaurant side which I enjoy for a quiet wine after work or some weekends. Televised match days can range from busy and friendly (England rugby away games have a great atmosphere) to quite raucous (England at home or local events). It is good to see the pub well supported however. I'll continue to visit.
