The welcome is friendly, staff helpful, atmosphere comfortable & warm [especially in cold or wet weather]. The food is excellent and we enjoy every mouthful. We have never had a bad meal here nor when we have a takeaway. This was particularly good during the pandemic when we did our best to keep our, and their, spirits up and business flourishing.

On having a lovely stay in Acksea Lodge in Kinnerley my husband wanted to take me for a Indian meal . We found one and to be honest thought it looked more like a pub than a restaurant. We didn’t book a table but they still managed to find us one . ‘Spice’ at Admiral Duncan was freshly cooked and by far the nicest Indian meal I’d eaten . I had onion bhaji s for starters followed by chicken tikka jalfrasi , pilau rice and peshwari nann best I’d ever ever had ! Staff were very friendly and food was reasonably priced … can’t wait to go back there again! Jackie Maghull Liverpool

By far the best Indian food in Shrewsbury. We only have takeaways as the restaurant does not match the food. Have never been disappointed by the food or the service. First class.

I always enjoy a good takeaway, especially the Papadum’s and Chutney but I do find myself getting into a pickle trying to make the Chutney’s last! It seems that if you order 1 Papadum or 6 (as I did), you still receive 3 small pots, which is more than adequate for 1, but a real struggle once you go beyond that! I have noticed that they sometimes charge for extra chutneys when you order multiple Papadums which I think is wrong as it’s included in the price, and in fairness they always remove the charge when questioned. I just wish they’d sort this pickle out and provide the chutney as described on the menu.

Haven’t been for a while as food became quite bland. Some friends went and said it was good so gave it another try as our local wem curry houses are terrible . Chicken madras with award winning rice was fantastic . Chicken tikka naga not quite as good . Just tasted hot without the taste . Rices and naans all fine. Daughters chicken tikka was good . Can tell good quality meat is used . Asked if they are tied up with Cafe Saffron in Shrewsbury which is our favourite . They said no which is odd as the menus are the same and it has all the same awards and been seen on BBC 1 John Bishop show . Anyway, would definitely go back again and sample that award winning rice once more which tastes the same as Cafe Saffron in Shrewsbury .

Nice tandoori to start. 1 small piece of lamb, 1 small piece of chicken, one 3 inch kebab and a small bhaji, measly for £3.95. Chicken pathia was far too sweet wth no hint of sour or citrus normally associated with this dish but a reasonable amount of well cooked and tender chicken. Keema rice was ok. Saag also again frugal, 4 small pieces of spud and a third of a cup of saag, given the cheapness of these items to buy in could have been rather more substantial. I might give it a second chance but at the mo not sure. The are many better it being local rather limits choice.

Was sceptical about going here at first as its the same owners as Cafe Saffron in Shrewsbury and my experiences haven't been great there over the last year or so. However, clearly they have a much better standard of chef in the kitchens because the food was amaizing! The currys were packed full of flavour, the rice was light and flavoursome and the naans weren't overly big and didnt dominate the table. We will definatly be coming back next time we are in/going past Baschurch!!

Some months ago we ordered a takeaway which was excellent. As it was Valentine's day my husband took me out for a meal to try the restaurant. There is a car park right beside the restaurant which is also easily accessible in a wheelchair.Drinks were ordered & served by a friendly member of staff. Then we selected our dishes from a very varied menu. Biryani, masala chicken, parathas as well as an award winning dish. All were very tasty & too much! The remaining food was packaged for us to take home. Chocs came with the bill & a red rose for myself! All very enjoyable.

We have loved and used this as a takeaway and restaurant for years and have never had a bad experience. We had a takeaway last week and the food didn't even resemble what we have had countless times before. My Tikka Masala was like a jar of tomato pasta sauce and my husbands pathia was awful. Naan was undercooked. I've heard that The Admiral is no longer affiliated with Café Saffron, maybe that's why it's gone so downhill!

We love the food and the staff are friendly and helpful. As we are in the village it is easy to phone through an order, collect and eat hot food when we want it. Choices are wide and varied and never disappoint though we do have our favourites.Eating in is more of an event and predictably delicious. Again attentive service without overwhelming gives it a sense of occasion. The ambiance if warm and friendly the decor pleasing to the eye and the sound levels not overwhelming. I hate a restaurant where you have to shout to be heard by your companions but if it is too quiet you can end up overhearing more than is appropriate.Consistency is the key. If a restaurant can maintain quality then you are on to a winner. Chefs who know their stuff and have support staff attuned to the recipes, front of house who are welcoming but not intrusive. Yes Admiral Duncan delivers as both a restaurant and takeaway service. As to the pub side - I'm told it is a good pub to drink in and has the usual pub games/sport TV facility, darts team but as I'm not much of a drinker can't speak from experience.

We have eaten at this place before when it was Cafe Saffron, and the food was really good. This time however we booked a takeaway and the food was, by comparison indifferent - on top of this we were told we'd have to wait an hour (ok), but then we arrived at the restaurant it took over another hour to get it (not ok). We are still unsure if this is Cafe Saffron or not. They have the same menus but its called "Admiral Spice". We wouldn't go back.

The service is friendly, helpful and efficient and the food is always delicious, especially the special dishes which are superb. Don't forget to ask what's available as 'Chefs specials' , which are not on the menu but cooked to order . To be totally honest we came here before last Christmas and did not really enjoy it. We felt the quality of the food was not great. I had heard recently from a few people that things had changed and it was worth another visit. Well I can say that I am delighted I did as the food was fantastic. A massive difference on the last time and based on this it will be great to have such a good Indian restaurant in walking distance. Would now happily recommend this to everyone and will be taking friends and family when they are over. Also would like to point out how good the service is.

Tucked away in a residential suburb of rural Shrewsbury, Admiral Duncan is well worth a visit. If you're looking for a hearty, affordable, authentic Indian meal you will adore this quaint restaurant. We recently moved to the area and this is the first Indian takeaway we have tried since our move. It was recommended to us by a local contact. For the first time in my life, I have been able to eat curry without skimming off layers of oil or feeling slightly ill afterwards. The poppadums were dry and very tasty, with a great selection of chutneys. The mixed kebab starter, chicken achari, garlic chilli lamb, vegetable rice and nan bread were faultless, with no trace of grease - just outstanding flavour. This was the first of many visits for us and we can't wait to try other dishes, and also to eat in the restaurant. We are so lucky to have found it.

Onion bhaji's were lovely, very tasty but not greasy which was good.Could not decide between two main dishes!! I was very pleasantly surprised when I visited the Cafe Saffron at the Admiral Duncan. I've never personally visited the Indian in Baschurch but I have been to the Cafe Saffron in Shrewsbury's town centre, so I had high expectations. I opted for my all time favourite king prawn korma with a pilau rice, the guys at the restaurant really accommodated for the fact I can't eat gluten and told me what I could have, the waiters were so friendly and personable & even gave us shots of Bailey's on the house at the end of the meal with the towels. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, they were all freshly cooked and using the highest quality ingredients, and you could tell this! It was a Friday night so the restaurant was busy and people were coming in and out for takeaways so it must be popular within the area. Plenty of parking on site at the pub, the toilets were of a very poor standard, no toilet roll in the cubicals & the hand dryer didn't work either. But overall food was fantastic and so was the service! Would recommend and I will be going again!

My wife and I went out to the restaurant on New Years Eve on a friends recommendation when we arrived we were greeted by two of the waiters having a shouting match at the bar. When we were shown to our table no12 to the right of my wife were boxes of glasses, pieces of broken chairs and general rubbish, the table was so wonky the waiters had to unscrew legs and pack them out to even them up. We asked if there was another table we could move to because of the mess the waiters words were " does there look like there is " and walked off. When the food arrived it was very good , but the experience of the rest of the night was very poor. This place is not a patch on the other one in Shrewsbury. The owners should raise the standard of this restaurant to the one in Shrewsbury.

We went as a group of12 on a Christmas do. The food was really good and the service was performed by very friendly and helpful waiters, however when the food arrived it was a little haphazzard as some people had rice and no sauce and others had sauce and no rice, this was not helped by the fact that many of us could not remember what our dish was called and the menus were not there by then. I think in all the staff did very well and this melee did not spoil our enjoyment of what I consider to be a good meal. Finally there were free baileys brought for the whole party - a nice touch - I would eat here again.

On a positive note the food was good any the price was really cheap 1 starter, 3 mains , 5 drinks £54. The place itself is very tired, chipped plates, plates that should be white have discoloured over time. We waited an hour for our mains ( the starter was to come out with the mains). 1 member of staff was quite abrupt, so I thought. Watching him work.. seems it was just his way. Personally I didn’t like it. Place was full and the phone didn’t stop ringing for takeaway.
