I arrived at the Adamson with a feeling of anticipation, having selected it from a number of other restaurants through some online research. I liked the look of it and was immediately taken with the atmosphere and the modern, tasteful interior. I was entertaining two people whom I had only met that day as a reward for organising a special event at the University. Fortunately, we had a lovely evening because we had so much to talk about, but the dining experience was seriously disappointing. One of my guests had beef, which he said was very good. The other guest and I had chicken Kiev which was so dry and devoid of buttery delight that I would have sent it back if I had been dining with my wife. It should never have left the kitchen. A pricey side order of green beans was only just north of raw, (and I like my veg "al dente"). Furthermore, the service, though pleasant enough when it came, was desperately slow and inattentive to the point of carelessness. I left a 12.5% tip. God knows why, except that my new friends had put me in a good mood.

The food left much to be desired, entered with high hopes, left feeling poor and upset. The lingunie was luke-warm, at best, and the prawns were clearly frozen. However, our waitress was very lovely and had some cracking eyes, except when I ask for sparkling water I expect San Pellegrino. Luckily, the wine was served in pints, so I could drink away my sorrows of this extremely sub-par culinary experience.

We chose this restaurant for a Christmas Eve lunch for the start of our family Christmas celebrations. It is usually the only time once a year that we all come together. The food was superb, the menu choice was excellent, drinks delightful, and were were very well attended to, without it being over powering or fussy. The restaurant allowed and accommodated well behaved dogs, which is useful when you have a group of 6 adults who want to share time together, and not be held back by having to return home because of pets. Being in the heart of St Andrews, a meander around the shops before of after lunch was perfect. I would visit again in a heart beat.

The only people that think this place is good are the same people that derive orgasmic pleasure from buying designer stuff while shoving it in the face of others (without understanding what a low status signal that is) and posting pictures of their fancy food (Yeah I review stuff and yeah I post on my Instagram - I only post pictures of my friends). This isn't terrible food for the money. It is literally just terrible food. Stay away.

I was a very sad vegan at the end of the night. We went for our anniversary dinner, I called up in advance to ask some questions about the vegan options on the menu, and I was told that the butternut squash was "a decent portion, you won't be disappointed" But it was probably about 400 calories ( being generous, with the oil and sauce) as there is ~ 200 calories in a whole butter squash. I think if I had maybe two or three times more I would be ok, and I do understand that nice restaurants generally have smaller portions, but when they have vegan items on the menu they don't fully consider how little the person would be eating. Meat and cheese are a lot more calorie dense, so having the small portions can still be filling, but just having a small handful of roasted vegetables, it happens too often when I got to a nice place. I am still very grateful that there are vegan options, but it's just sad when the option leaves you so disappointed you almost want to cry. The staff were polite but not friendly, and the manager was on top of everything, she does watch everything and does everything she can to. She was not the person I spoke to when making the booking, and the person who has booked on the phone was not there as well during the night.

Incredibly bizarre and unsatisfying experience. We were disappointed by the food but even more shocked by the response of the staff. Regulars in St Andrews, we were looking forward to be finally trying out The Adamson for a special occasion for a family of five. When the food came to say that it was tasteless would be an understatement. The prawn linguine was plainer than what you would serve to a child. The pasta wasn’t even cooked in salted water, tasted of plain butter. The prawns were plain, cooked separately and placed on top, rather than being incorporated to give flavour. Everyone at the table was so puzzled, we didn’t know how to approach the situation, as it was so unexpected. The waitress came to check on us, but as we were about to explain the situation, she assumed the best, without waiting on our response and as we stopped and told her that the dish was inedible, she proceeded to be completely checked out, never apologised, took the plates and left. We were never approached by anyone else, actively avoided by everyone for the rest of the evening. We paid our bill and left and will never be back again. Would never recommend this place to anyone.

Having eaten at The Adamson multiple times in the last few years and always thoroughly enjoying our food, today's visit was extremely disappointing. We went for my husband's birthday lunch and chose the Sunday beef roast. On arrival the food looked nice and well presented, but on closer inspection, the beef was quite frankly, inedible. Very fatty, so tough it was hard to cut with the steak knife provided, and had a horrible, rubbery texture. The flavour wasn't nice either, and the meat was lukewarm. The accompanying potatoes, veg and Yorkshire pudding did look nice, but the beef was so bad that we sent our meals back. This isn't something I do lightly when dining out, but we couldn't eat what was served. We asked to order something else instead, and based on the quality of the beef we had, we weren't too confident to order any steaks or beef based items (despite enjoying the Chateaubriand in the past) which make up most of the menu, if you don't eat seafood. We thought we would play it safe and go with fish and chips, but that has been replaced with fish goujons and chips on the menu, which seems like more of a kids meal. This was edible on arrival but the fish was greasy and served with a meagre portion of mushy peas, although the fries and tartare sauce were good. We had ordered a side of mac and cheese with our roasts, which we ate as we waited for our second meals. We used to love the mac and cheese here and rarely visited without having some, but this time it was bland and the sauce really runny. We were grateful that we were able to order something else to replace the roasts, and our re-order did arrive quickly, but the service was limited and nobody checked in to see if our food was OK as we ate (even the first time, I had to walk over to the bar to get someone's attention). This was extremely disappointing considering the reputation and price point of this establishment. I am a believer in 'you get what you pay for' and I've happily paid the prices here in the past for quality food and good service. However, based on today's experience, I don't think the food and service provided equates to the prices charged here. I wouldn't return here, unless there is a vast improvement in future.

Upon entering "The Adamson," my wallet gave a nervous shudder, as if it knew it was about to enter a diet program. The menu, an ode to minimalism, featured the chateaubriand as the pièce de resistance at 87 GBP. This culinary unicorn was so elusive on the plate, I was half-convinced it was a figment of my imagination. The chateaubriand, priced as if it were a rare gem, was presented with a fanfare that seemed to compensate for its Lilliputian size. Each bite was a fleeting whisper of flavor, a tease to the taste buds that left them yearning for more substance. The staff at "Adamson" were the true stars of the evening. Their smiles were as genuine as the puzzlement I felt when I learned that when I wanted to tip by card, only a fraction find its way to them. It seems that in the world of electronic payments, tips are like socks in a dryer – they mysteriously disappear. In conclusion, dining at "The Adamson" is an experience that's heavy on charm and light on the stomach. The chateaubriand might not weigh down your plate, but the staff's delightful demeanor will certainly anchor your heart. A gentle reminder to all: when tipping, cash is king, lest your appreciation vanish into the digital void.

We dropped by for a quick pint and some nibbles after visiting St Andrews. We were the only ones in their outdoor seating area which felt a bit weird since nearby places were mobbed, but it was fine for us. Their beer selection is very limited, with only a handful of boring beers available so -1 star for that. The nibbles we got were fairly pricy so figured we'd get decent portions, but they were tiny, so -1 star again. The service was friendly though and the nibbles were tasty so it wasn't all bad. Overall an ok experience, but I'm not sure I'd drop by again.

We decided to come to this restaurant as we had drinks there when last in St Andrews. The place looks sophisticated and polished, good quality wine. I started with the Steak Tartare, it is one of the best I have tasted, a great version, with a little siracha heat, garlic ketchup and baby capers, absolutely delicious. My husband had lamb for his main, a Dick Turpin rip off, 2 tiny slices of lamb, not even a potato or veg on the plate, shocking for £32.95. I ordered the halibut, it was over cooked, easy to do as it was the tiniest portion I have ever seen in a restaurant, again £32.95. My son’s linguine was bland, needed an anchovy and more garlic in there to give it a bit of umami depth. Although the staff were lovely, considerate and polite, they don’t read the room, waited 10 minutes to grab their attention, too much casual banter ….more training needed. Overall over priced, not good value for money Former Lecturer in Hospitality and Tourism

First class food and service. Good wines by the glass too. The scallop starter and lamb main course were excellent, although some carbs with the lamb would improve the dish in my view. The only reason it’s not a 5 star review is the music volume. We had lunch here a few months back on a quiet day and had to ask for it to be reduced ( which in fairness it was right away). We thought then it was just that it seemed louder because the restaurant was quiet but it was the same this time, and arguably a little worse in that the music level kept changing. Maybe some patrons enjoy music this loud but for us it just really isn’t in keeping with the high end feeling achieved in all other aspects. Otherwise a really good experience we’d look forward to repeating.

When we politely complained about the quality of the food, the manager was sent over and asked what we wanted her to do about it. While eating duck, I chewed on something that looked like a strange metal and when I asked about it, they said it was a bullet fragment and that it was a common occurrence. I think they said it was something they caught hunting, but even though it was a common occurrence in this restaurant, we were really surprised, but the explanation of the male employee, whether it was a waiter or a manager, was absurd and he said 'that could happen' and left without even saying sorry. A great restaurant that cooks even bullet fragments, whether wild duck is more delicious or not. The mussel dish wasn't seasoned properly and I couldn't eat it all, so I asked for it to be packed, and the waitress brought it to me, but when I came back empty-handed, she said that I couldn't pack it according to restaurant regulations. And they didn't even bring me the food I brought. I also lost the chance to eat the leftover food. I calculated it to be approximately 290 pounds for two people, but there is no reason to recommend it considering the price. Among the restaurants in St.Andrews University, it is a very expensive place. Above all, the customer service is not very friendly and the price is not appropriate for the taste or quality of the food. However, the restaurant looks a bit luxurious, so it seems like it's a restaurant that people come to once in a while. At least the salad and dessert are worth eating. I visited this restaurant twice. The first time was delicious, so I came the second time and the food wasn't as good as the previous time. While eating duck, I chewed on something that looked like a strange metal piece and when I asked about it, they said it was a bullet fragment and that it was a common occurrence in this place ,we were really surprised , because we almost ate metal bullet fragment from duck. But the explanation of the male employee, whether it was a waiter or a manager, was absurd and he said with very annoyed face 'that could happen' then shortly left like wind without even saying sorry. A great restaurant that cooks even bullet fragments, whether wild duck is more delicious or not!! The mussel dish wasn't seasoned properly and we couldn't eat it all, so I asked for it to be packed, and the waitress took it, later came back Empty-Handed(after I paid bill) and she said that I couldn't 't pack it according to restaurant regulations. We also lost the chance to finish the food we paid at the restaurant. We paid around 290 pounds for two people, but there is no reason to recommend this restaurant considering the price. Lovely food, great service. Enjoyed that there were good interesting fish/ veggie options. Had a great night and particularly appreciated not at any point feeling rushed by the waiters.

I've been here in the past and always enjoyed it. However, I would describe it as almost scandalously poor value now. Ordered the rib-eye steak at £36.95 and have a look at the size of it. It's tiny and about 1cm thick. It comes with...

We got seated by a lovely waitress in the cocktail bar that we reserved. It did take about 30 minutes to get our cocktail. 3 very under filled and the fourth was quite disgusting! Blue suede shoes! We requested the very under filled cocktails to be filled up which they kindly did do. Very nice place with a good atmosphere but the cocktails were not to the standard hoped.

Went in yesterday for cocktails for our daughters 18th birthday. There was 7 of us and a member of staff saw us arrive but didn’t acknowledge us in any way. After 20 minutes of sitting in an empty bar and no staff in the bar area atal we left.

After three days, we finally found an excellent steak. Good Angus beef and properly cooked medium rare. Enjoyed all the food and the cocktails. Shame they were out of Drambuie. This is where we will eat when we're visiting. Very good service for Scotland.

4 of us were seated in the Bar, no reservations allowed, after dining and drinking, we were told we had 10 minutes to vacate, as they needed our table. We had just paid the bill, 300 lbs, and were still finishing our drinks. Meanwhile, the table next to us was occupied by 2 people who were sharing a glass of wine when we arrived, and were still sharing it, and not a word to them. I will never grace these doors again. there are too many good service options.

No complaints about the pub itself. Expect market price drinks and a clean pub. However, it does get incredibly crowded and overwhelming once the students start arriving, so make sure to come here nice and early and you will get a good experience.
