Morning coffee and hot scones for 11s...always a winner

I write this at 1:30am on our first night.... The radiator is stuck on, our room is sweltering, we can't sleep. There is no out of hours or emergency number to contact anyone to get any kind of help.... 0 staff on site. We are basically stuck in this situation until the morning. I will be demanding a refund. I wouldn't recommend any hotel where they can't even be bothered to leave an emergency number. Complete joke! Furious would be an understatement. Ruined the end of a birthday... Also upon arrival we was asked to pay a security deposit. I have no issue with this but there was no mention anywhere prior to arrival that this hotel asked for this. Add to review: since awaking after the fiasco, the staff have been amazing. We got moved to another room immediately and everyone has been so apologetic. The said there is normally an emergency contact number on the desk whoch they are unsure who has removed. The breakfast we have had today is amazing (5 star) and restaurant service amazing also. Good coffee and free juice. The new room has a much nicer restroom. Whilst nothing can change what happened last night we are trying to have a fresh look at the place and give it another chance.

Can't comment on rooms as only popped in for a coffee. The hotel eating area was busy but quick, friendly service. Good prices too. Certainly will be back.

Been coming to this hotel from the 80s. Great location. The meals are fantastic and what platefuls they are. A must visit but please book for you will not be disappointed. 👍👍

4 of us stayed here for 1 night. When we arrived a chinese lady took one of our cases and showed us to our room. We thought she was perhaps a porter. Found out later she was the owner. The room was nice but the bathroom was very small. The dinner and breakfast was very good. All in all an excellent stay with very friendly and helpful staff. Would stay again if in the area.

A must visit especially the meals, hot and tasty. But be hungry for they are large platefuls and best to book. 👍👍

We had a fantastic high tea here. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The kids high tea was amazing value and they really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

We had a high tea. The menu was very good as was the food. The portion was a bit big for me but my husband ate all his. Then came the scones and cakes. I had enough room to eat them. The staff were very attentive, friendly, polite and well presented. All in all, a great experience

Lovely spot, nice old buildings, rooms could do with a spruce but they are clean.

So glad we decided on the strathearn for mums funeral tea. The food was delicious, all home made. We chose the sandwich, sausage roll, scones and cake options. Everything was freshly made, the sandwiches had a good range of fillings and were super fresh, everyone raved about the sausage rolls. The scones were palm sized, warm and served with clotted cream and jam, they were scrumptious. The cakes were all fisher and Donaldson's and doggy bags were provided for the cakes that were uneaten. The staff were super efficient, polite and courteous and always there with refills of tea and coffee. My mum would have been very happy today, thank you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We came here for a family lunch, the food was delicious and served promptly, the staff were very attentive. Pricing was very reasonable. We really enjoyed our visit. We would recommend this place as a relaxed place to eat when you have young children.

Rooms fairly basic but clean. Excellent food and staff were very accommodating and friendly. Walls are paper thin but thankfully most of the guests seemed to realise this and were not too loud.

We stayed at the hotel for a week exploring up and down the coast. The historic Fife fishing villages are a short drive up the coast and there are quite a few Castles in easy driving distance including Falkland Palace. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Stratherne, we got more than we expected for a very reasonable room rate. We liked the historic building, the setting opposite the Park and just a short stroll to Dysart harbour. Our room was a good size with a bay window and view of the sea. Breakfasts offered a good choice, I particularly appreciated the bowl of fresh strawberries to add to cereal. The only slightly negative thing for me was the size of the evening meal portions - they were huge. Off putting for me. The staff were all helpful and professional. We would stay again.

A complete nightmare, a proper scam. l've been promised a refund but never heard back even after following up via email. I would definitely not recommend this place. I was in a single room with 2 windows, one of which on the roof straight on top of the bed. No blinds to block out the light. The widows face the back of the kitchen so the smell of it is unbearable and you can't open the window. There was a private party going on with loud music until midnight. Music and vibration from downstairs was straight into the room. Impossible to sleep before mid-night. Woken up at 4 by the light outside. Food was ok in the evening (curry) but the avocado in the morning had a strange taste. I shared my complains at the reception when checking out and got promised a refund "when the manager is back". Never heard back from them.

Very nice people. Not far from Edinburgh. Big amount of food for breakfast and superb quality.

Just had a fantastic two night stay with my partner at this hotel, and cannot fault it in any way. The staff are extremely friendly, very polite, and happy to chat whenever you are passing or being served at the bar or in the restaurant. Our room was absolutely perfect, huge, ( in comparison with other hotels we have stayed in ) with a large bed, sofa, dressing table, wardrobe, bedside cabinets, en - suite, and bay window overlooking the grounds. Very clean, and towels etc were changed daily as well as room being serviced. General manager was very friendly, (apologies for not catching his name) as was Gary at the bar, and special mention for Evan, who was just so cheery, chatty, and had a great laugh with us. Again, the rest of the staff were equally so easy to get on with. Breakfast was just amazing, cooked to order, fresh, and very tasty, and they certainly don’t scrimp on the portions. Unfortunately didn’t manage to make dinner, as we just missed out on the time for sitting, but the staff and manager were more than happy for us to arrange an alternative, and allow us to still use the facilities and the dining area, so big shout out for that. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kirkcaldy or the surrounding area, and once again, big thanks to the staff. Keep up the great work, we will CERTAINLY be back. !!

My husband and I celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary with family & friends on Sunday 30th June. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed their High Tea, the portion sizes were generous ( we had advised them prior to event!).The feedback from all our guests was overwhelmingly positive. The service from the hard working staff was exceptional. The menu choices cater for all tastes, at a very modest price. Thanks to Joe, Tracey, Chloe and all the staff for making our special day so memorable. Looking forward to a return visit to the Strathearn Hotel.

Stayed her for4 nights, we did the same last year and were Impressed then with the hotel. Like last year the room was airy and comfortable, the food was very good and the hotel were certainly not 'stingy' with the meals. The staff too were exceptional, every one we came across was polite, friendly and could't do enough for us. For value for money I think anyone would be hard pressed to find better in Fife. We will be back again next year - hopefully !!

Have enjoyed my stay at the Strathearn while I've been working in Kirkcaldy, the staff are great, all really friendly and helpful. The food is really good, they have a great selection of Whiskey, decent beer on tap and they do a nice pint of Guinness. Sitting in the gardens with a pint on a hot summer evening after a hard days graft is a real pleasure. Very close to Ravenscraig Park and the Firth of Forth, so there are some lovely walks to be had right on the doorstep, if you get the chance to stay here you should, you won't regret it. Looking forward to coming back again.

We had an excellent lunch in their lovely dining room. Food was 5-star and prices very reasonable. A good selection of vegetarian options.

We went for Father’s Day high tea and had a fab meal. Lots of choice (including gluten free), food was excellent and great cake selection. This was our first trip to Strathearn and we’ll definitely be back.

This place is disgusting! And i had witnessed an employee getting screamed at for taking my FINISHED plates away. Totally unacceptable will never be coming here again. Their food is alright but the way they treat their staff members is horrific. I feel bad for the poor lassies having to get that kind of abuse

First time visit for a high tea could not fault any of it

Incredible value for how much they charge per room. The food was amazing, there's a lovely park right across the street, and the rooms were very comfy and cozy. Will be coming back if I'm able to!

Really friendly and polite staff and great service. We were here for a wake unfortunately but food was excellent and did not feel rushed to leave. As the function room was required for the evening we were kindly allowed to finish in the side bar. Lots of parking available here too which was great.

Well where to start. Audrey and I arrived early for our table, absolutely no bother, I'll take you through now (Tracey). Even got the table I wanted, but hadn't requested! Audrey hadn't been for a while and was most impressed with the homely vibes and super comfy seats. High Tea was duly served. Toast, butter, conserves. Followed by your choice of main from the extensive menu. After than cakes and scones! Top up of tea .. no bother. Excellent service from one and all. Nothing was too much bother. We can't recommend this place enough. Oh did I mention ALL of the food and tea was only £20!!! each. Well done Joe, Tracey and the staff 👍

Just had a wee sneaky Saturday tea out at the Strathearn Hotel. Cdn't fault it. Tho the restaurant was quite full, the service was friendly and swift, the portions were enormous and the food good quality. There was no push for us to vacate our table after we d finished. We'll definitely be back!!!

Lovely place good food and nice staff.

We went for Lunch. I knew it would be ok after getting feedback from friends. I was not expecting it to be this good.... The restaurant was busy and had a slightly old fashioned comfort about it that makes you feel a bit more special. The staff were happy and helpful and they go out of the way to give you the service you like. The Menu was varied and reflected the great produce that Fife has to offer. The chef took that great produce and presented us with a wonderful meal that defied criticism. We had 3 courses and were delighted with each plate presented to us. We all chose something different and were sampling each others dishes as they all looked amazing and tasted better. The Bar service was also very good, providing us with a wide choice of beverages to suit our meal/preferences. I do advise that you book in advance as it is popular. I can't comment on the rooms as we were only there for a meal. However the location is fantastic with views over Ravenscraig Park and the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and beyond. If you are coming to Fife and need a good hotel, I would recommend The Strathearn.

Came for a meal - service was attentive and personal, food was great. One star dropped due to lack of disabled access to the restaurant. Otherwise it's a five star dining experience for 3 star prices.

Big family high tea, group of 15, food all arrived at the same time, tea n toast also coffee, cream cakes were good scones n clotted cream magic, price was fair, quality good, one of the owners took tike to chat with us regarding the upkeep of this Historic hotel and how much work is in maintaining its elegance. Real coal fire in the foyer, Awsome !! Defo going back Now officially 1 of 2 favourite hotels in KDY. Just go, you won't be disappointed, I will say it was very busy probably best to book.

La struttura si trova a 20 minuti a piedi dal centro e 100 metri dalla fermata dell'autobus per Edimburgo, gode di un ottimo parcheggio e camere un pò vintage, confortevoli e silenziose, la colazione ottima e variegata.

Family Boxing Day meal in private room. Very fair prices for good tasty food with prompt service. Great value for money.

PreXmas lunch in main restaurant. Party of 7+ but no one said their meal was really good. Sadly, food was mediocre at best. Very disappointing overall. Soup wouldve been nice but far too salty Steak pie- lots of nice tender beef but in a thick gloopy very salty gravy. Pastry- disappointing Vegetables bit hard & potatoes unremarkable. Pudding was the only decent course. Clearly no one actually TASTED the food before it left the kitchen. Such a shame as The Strathearn Hotel is part of our family history & we've had many meals & happy memories there over the years.

Huge well done to chef whom I believe has been working flat out since beginning of dec due to illness . Great team . A regular meeting room for holding a Club agm . Always treated well, politely and warmly. A nice quiet location, a stones throw from Ravenscraig Park and the beaches by Dysart harbour. Great for weddings, funerals and meetings

Room was nice and spacious, but ours had a very small bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Restaurant was excellent, great service, great food.

Failed to notify there was a wedding taking place causing an insane amount of noise, cost was refunded and free meal offered. Meal itself was fine but felt quite intimidated by staff standing at the bar watching me eat my meal. Yes, I ate alone in a restaurant - it’s not that uncommon in 2023!!

I attended a funeral tea there. Service and snacks were excellent.

We went for a Sunday high tea.but wouldn't rush back. Roast beef was tastless and roast potatoes too hard to cut through. Macaroni and Steak pie was good though.

Met friends for early evening meal. Easy to get a space in the carpark. Shown to my table right away and ordered a drink as i was first there. The place was packed and it was only Tuesday! Friends soon arrived and as we got caught up, their drinks arrived and food order taken. Batteredfish n chips for me, chilli chicken burger, chicken salad and cauliflower tempura for the others. Empty plates all around, fish perfectly cooked crispy batter, good chips and some salad with dressing. No desserts on this visit as we were all full as it was good sized portions. Will definitely go back and the prices are reasonable aswell. Big thumbs up👍

Sehr schönes Haus mit einem tollen Restaurant. Das Haus hat Flair. Das Zimmer war groß aber das Badezimmer war eine Zumutung. Noch nie so ein kleines Bad gesehen. Für 100 kilo plus no chance da sich zu bewegen. Die Matratze war sehr hart, was nicht so dramatisch gewesen wäre, hätte nicht jede einzelne Feder bei Bewegung gequitscht. Ging gar nicht! War Gott sei Dank nur eine Nacht

We’re lucky enough to have this lovely hotel on our doorstep. The food is absolutely fantastic and such great value. The portions speak for themselves. We’ve tried most of the menu and never been disappointed! The staff are welcoming and friendly and it’s our family favourite place to go locally. ‘Tracy’ always goes above and beyond for us. We have used the hotel regularly for meals , breakfast, lunch, dinner and of course the Sunday high tea, the food is always of a very good standard supported by excellent service.

Even thou I had a single room with mot much space it was spotless and had everything I needed, Now the only thing I need to say about the staff from cleaning to bar staff is they fantastic and very helpful serving staff and kitchen awesome, food absolutely Brilliant and the Manager on duty was very helpful and very understanding to a few guests that were a bit problematic at a great wedding. Great venue 👌

Staff are very friendly and the food is great. Bedrooms in need of updating and bathroom is small with a shower cubicle, sink, and toilet. Would also be good if the window blinds were blackout ones as they let a lot of light in at the moment

Das Hotel ist von außen sehr ansprechend. Positiv ist vor allem das Frühstück (große Auswahl, sehr sehr lecker) und die Bar (hier gibt es je eine für Bier und für Whisky/Gin. Beide sind gut besucht, die Getränke sind lecker und es läuft gute Musik. Auch die Mitarbeiter im Essens- und Barbereich sind sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Negativ aufgefallen sind mir dagegen die Zimmer. Das Bad ist sehr schmal, die Dusche hat einen leicht gelblichen Farbton und die Fenster sind nicht ganz dicht, sodass es kalt hereinzieht. Außerdem haben wir gesehen, wie der Zimmerservice beim Machen der Betten die Kopfkissen auf den Boden legt. Auch die neuen Handtücher lagen zuvor auf einem Haufen auf den Boden. Die Lage fanden wir auch nicht so besonders, da man eine Weile bis zum Stadtkern laufen muss und es dort auch recht ausgestorben wirkt (da kann das Hotel natürlich nicht viel für).
