A great selection of beers. Massive range of canned and bottled beers too. Would recommend.

September 2024: I thought it looked different! I guess it moved from the old market place! This is a better venue! Great little bar, nestled amidst a mini shopping centre. Food and nick-nacks available from surrounding stalls. That Beer Place offers about 10 tapped beers (craft, keg, cider) to choose from. Well worth going. Bar staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Bottle and beer fridge full of curios and well.established brands!

Absolute gem of a place, came highly recommended and I can see why. 350+ beers (!). Sean was on duty on monday night and couldn't have been nicer. No late night kick out for kids, he recommended a fantastic DIPA as I asked for one and was very friendly and chatty, even as we asked about his tattoos.

That beer place has a nice selection of ale and ciders. The service is quick, and the people are nice. Ample seating upstairs and downstairs, including outdoor.

Great choice of beers, friendly staff

Me and my family came here after trying to find a bar for a while. Although it looks nice, the coca cola is off-brand and tastes vile. Then the strawberry daquiri slushies were £8.50 for HALF A GLASS. Absolute robbers. The glass is tiny too, they are tumblers. Although it is nice according to my family.

Always a good place to go, offering fantastic and varied crafty beers.

What a gem Just around the corner from our hotel was this amazing pub. A great range of ales and if we weren't going out for a meal would have meant we spent the night here. Some fun board games to play and the value of the drinks was spot on (would have happily paid a bit more)

Really friendly staff, went there for a tech talk event in their room above the building and it was really good. The staff were friendly, and everyone seemed to enjoy their time there. I had a cola and it was good, but they did offer alcohol (obviously - their name is literally "That Beer Place"). Anyway, great place, recommend for meeting up with people. Rating 5/5

Great beer spot to hang out! An impressive choice of beers and ciders on tap, bottles/cans, soft drinks as well. Super friendly service, really helpful and approachable. Tables outside in the sun or inside with sports on the TV. We had a splendid time! Don't miss it if you're visiting Chester!

The master knows too much about beer (lol) If you're a beer lover and you're in the city of Chester, you should definitely stop by right away. The master will surely choose your favorite beer from among the world's beers. If I lived in Chester I would definitely go there. I don't know when I'll have the next opportunity, but it was a restaurant I'd like to visit again. thank you very much.

A tremendous selection of beer from all over the place, reminded me of North Bar in Leeds, one of the first places you could try out Belgian (and other beers). If a pint of smooth for £2.40 is your thing, then the nearby Wetherspoons can cater for you. Helpful staff

I've been a TBP regular, since they first opened in Chester Market in 2018, and love it. A great selection of beers, many you won't find elsewhere locally.

Superb bar with a big range of Keg and cans (I understand Cask will return this month). Very knowledgeable staff. Good ground floor area with windows that open to the street, but bigger upstairs seating area. Lots of different styles: Belgian, Sours, Barrel Aged, Farmhouse from excellent breweries both local and national. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to have excellent beer.

Wow - why have I never been here before? An unrivalled choice of craft beers including some really obscure selections worthy of staying longer if I didn’t have a 🚂 to catch. Opens at 12:00 noon 7 days a week which is always a bonus. Terrific, knowledgeable staff are on hand if in doubt what to have. A Verified Venue with all beers listed on Untappd.

Great place for finding really unusual beers but at a price. Perhaps more suited to the under 50s age group - just a personal view.

Fantastic bar and bottle shop, one of the best bars we visited in Chester. Very friendly service. Excellent choice of beer on tap, we especially enjoyed the tap takeover of Fuerst Wiacek that coincided with our trip 😀 👍 They are a verified venue on Untappd so easy to check out the ever-changing tap menu. There's no food on offer in the venue itself, but you're welcome to order from the many takeaway options very nearby, and there's plenty of outdoor space. We'd be regulars if we lived in Chester! Highly recommended and we will definitely return next time we visit.

This is my favourite place to come in Chester. Amazing variety of beers and fine cider, with highly knowledgeable and friendly staff. I feel so at home here with the number of clubs and groups they help support. Always innovative. Would recommend to everyone to come and try That Beer Place, you won't regret it.

Fabulous range of draft beers and ciders, not to mention the huge selection of bottles and cans to takeaway or drink in (for a reasonable £1.50 charge) Friendly staff to offer advice or a cheeky taster if you're unsure! And they arrange lots of beery events which are always excellent 👍

One of the absolute best bars in Chester and maybe the best in the country when it comes to cider and perry. Great staff, great choice, can't go wrong here.

Unfortunately, not that friendly. .......... This was my original review, simple and to the point to which I received quite a long reply back... Let me elaborate.... I picked a cider off the menu (a half), it tasted sweaty and a bit dirty. So I asked for a replacement, any other drink would do as this particular choice was quite frankly "grim". And I had tasted less then a sip. I wasn't sure if it was a dirty glass, dirty lines, or a poor choice of cider. The bar tender asked if I wasn't a fan of sweet cider (the cider was not a sweet choice.... So they clearly didn't understand the difference which was fine and I didn't go into more detail or explain the difference). They told me it was supposed to taste like that and I apologised and asked if I could get a replacement... (This is not something I normally do, would they know that? No, but I was intending on buying additional drinks to make up for the replacement). Anyway, I was told I would have to pay to replace the drink as I could have sampled beforehand (how would I have known that? As the response keeps pointing out... It's not advertised). But all in all, we bought three drinks and would have bought plenty more, but one was absolutely grim and now we won't be going again. Poor draft choice, poor customer service, and especially poor response... Oh and if you don't like something in a supermarket then yes, they have the money back, no questions asked guarantee.... I have never used it but it's on all the labels... (What a weird and clearly incorrect point made in the response from the owner/manager).

Excellent full on craft beer venue. Not for everyone but for those that are into genuine craft beer its heaven Update may 24. Still excellent beers with somewhat tad drab service, what's happened here? Maybe one off..

Best bar in Chester. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Great location and an amazing range of drinks of draft or in the fridge. Also plenty of decent wines to keep the missus happy and some great snacks too. Definitely recommend a visit and this shall be on the top of the list when we visit again!

Good place for a real ale. But they do charge corkage £1. 50 on top of price. Don't know why?

Very overpriced for what it is, £1.50 corkage for cans sold in the shop seems very unreasonable. Spookton brew co. Is a much better place to go if you are in the city.

Great venue, the best in Chester!

It is a fantastic pub with friendly staff and a great choice of beers. Some sort of odd disco techno thing upstairs, which was different but in a good way. The only small issue was just having 2 toilets, which was tough when it was busy.

The best selection of high class beer in Chester

I come here regularly, and always love the choice of beers available. The staff have also been brilliant every time I've been here. If you're ever in Chester, and love trying a variety of different beers, be sure to visit this place!

We have always had a wonderful time at That Beer Place, which is why we wanted to have our engagement party in their room upstairs. It was an excellent night, in a great space, and the team could not have been easier to arrange it with. Nothing was too much trouble, we could play our own music, have whatever lighting and food we wanted. It was fantastic and there was something for everyone drinks wise. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the selection and what a nice place it was.

Loved this place when it was in the market and even more so now it's got a new location. Great choice of drinks, some you'd struggle to find elsewhere or at that price point.

It’s impossible to rate the food, as they don’t serve their own (although there are guest appearances from local food traders and you can take your own - both of which are great options!) but the rest of the package cannot be faulted. Great staff, great vibes and even great art on the walls from Chester’s own David Setter (of Doodleplanet fame). The burgeoning Comedy Nights (last Tuesday of the month at the time of writing) are also fast-becoming essential entries in the diary 🙌🙌🙌

Great little find on our stay in chester .loads oc different beers and ales to try. Great atmosphere.

Fantastic selection of beers, served by staff who know what they're talking about. Food was amazing, but it was a pop-up affair from Meltdown rather than an in-house offering. Atmosphere spoiled by uncontrolled toddlers running around upstairs - being 'family friendly' is all well and good, but not when it leads to other customers being disturbed.

Recommended by another independent and came for a solo drink on Friday night. Was treated really well, given other suggestions of great places to check out and is a credit to the Indies in Chester.

It's a really good Neo-Ale house just on the fridges of Chester. The staff are brilliant and always beyond friendly. The beer menu constantly changes, with some spectacular breweries and beers on offer. Weekends are great, with live DJs and even comedy up stairs in one of the coolest small venues in Chester. Pet friendly also, and families are not out of place. Highly recommend the place to locals, or to tourists

Great tap room. The bartender was very knowledgeable and able to make great suggestions of what to try. Nice atmosphere and location. The selection of beers and ciders available was unreal! Very much recommend this place.

If you like ale, then this place is like disney land. Was excited to have accidently found this place! Theres got to be something like 200 different bottles to try along with 10 drafts! Take some money, its not cheap but definately worth a look!

Wow... look I love beer, and and really appreciate good customer service too but this place blew me away! Firstly greeted with a mad selection of more or less every craft ale you could imagine but then I casually mentioned I had broken the arm on my glasses and the Boss (Nice move Dale) jumped into action! Literally stopped in his tracks to help me fix them? Fix them he did in a proper retro fashion, Jack Duckworthesque! Mint, they just looked happy to help and served everyone with a smile! Do yourself a favour and drop in for a pint, I for sure will be back soon. Cheers 🍻

Fantastic beer choice. Great staff and relaxed atmosphere. If you want a cheap pint of cooking lager or John smiths smooth then walk on as it would be expensive for your tastes. If you love good beer then it’s for you, unless you’ve some weird toilet segregation issues you need to deal with.
