These guys used to do the best set menu but no more. Such a shame and I remember good times here. Won't be returning sadly

Not like it was NEW CHEF'S Not recommended as there is much better (quality) Indian food if your willing to drive an extra 5 minutes in any direction And having used thania for for over 4 years on and off They had a new chef when relocating to the woodpecker pub

We were a party of 9 for a family dinner. The service was excellent and the delicious, piping hot meal was served in good time. The waiter lent us a knife and candle lighter and provided small plates for our Birthday cake. He then took photos for us. We had excellent time in a well-run restaurant.

First order, and it won't be our last. Lovely food. I had chicken garlic balti and a keema nan. Really nice.

I went for a meal with friends, from the moment we walked in we was made to feel welcome and valued customers The food, was excellent and could not be faulted, piping hot , food served in good time but no way we felt rushed. The waiting staff were polite friendly, and good banter with our table which is always a good thing We all had starters, mains, various sides, and the bill came to £182.50 for a party of ten with the cost of living is excellent value for money You can bring your own booze but not allowed to bring soft drinks which is fair eonugh Currently they don't take cards only cash not sure if this temporary or permanent In summary if you want a good value Indian meal with great service 100% recommend,

From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm and friendly smiles from the staff. One of the highlights of the meal was the paneer - it was absolutely delicious! The cubes were cooked to perfection and the sauce had just the right balance of spices. It was definitely one of the best paneer dishes I have had in a long time. Another great feature of this restaurant is that they allow BYOB, which is always a plus. It's great to be able to bring your own drinks and enjoy them with your meal. The naan bread was another standout - it was soft and fluffy, served hot straight from the oven. It paired perfectly with the flavorful curries and made for a very satisfying meal. One thing that really caught my attention was the crazy laser lighting. It added a unique and fun element to the dining experience and made the ambiance feel energetic and exciting....but perhaps should be mounted so as not to shine in some of the diners eyes.

We went here on Saturday and had a really nice meal which was reasonably priced - the naan bread was some of the best I've had, and I've eaten in lots of indian restaurants! They aren't licenced to serve alcohol, which is fine, but they need to get creative with the range of soft drinks offered - there are so many lovely ones that they could stock. Instead, we paid £3.50 for a pint glass of flat lemonade and coke. I personally prefer cans or bottles of soft drink, because they keep their fizz and are nice when served with in a nice glass with a bit of ice. I'd definitely go again - food was great, but soft drink selection needs improving and making a bit cheaper.

Really enjoyed the meal. The food was fresh and tasty. The meat was well cooked and not tough. The proprietor are very helpful and eager to please.

Just reopened and it's a big welcome back. Before pandemic used Thania for 15 years and it's fabulous to see them open again having survived it.

I discovered last week, that Thania Spice is back in it's original location in West Heath. They are still takeaway-only at the moment, but are hoping to open the restaurant again soon! (exciting times) So for a takeaway I had Lamb Tikka Saag, and my friends a Garlic Chilli Chicken and a Vegetable Chana Saag balti. The food was as lovely as always. Good portion sizes, nicely flavoured (not over spiced, but if you want it spicier, just ask). The lamb tikka is always cooked to perfection, and I also tried the vegetable chana saag which was packed with vegetables. (the portion was too big for my friend - Didn't get to try the chilli chicken - too slow!). Anyway I can't recommend Thania Spice enough, never had a bad meal in however many decades it has been around, even through the tough times of the last few years. Wish the guys the best with their re-opening, it is a pleasure to have you back!

The half a chicken tika was 2 legs.... Should be a breat and a leg. My partner's prawn dish only had 4 prawns. Chili nan had no chilies. Only redeeming feature was the spicing which was brill. There are a lot of takeaways in our area so won't be ordering again.

Not overly impressed at all, £27 for three dishes no free popadoms. At that price I expect to have relish and popadoms at least.

Thania Spice was a favourite restaurant which I used to visit with a friend when in Birmingham. Although no longer a restaurant, takeaway only, the food was just a good. We had an amazing meal. I'm looking forward to my next visit :)

Alas, my favorite restaurant has not survived lockdowns, however, it has moved to the Woodpecker pub (opposite King Edwards Girls School on Turves Green) a few more minutes further away and turned into a takeaway. For the meal, we had Balti Lamb Tikka Saag, Balti Chicken Tikka Saag, and Vegetable Balti Chana Saag, with mushroom rice, egg rice, keema naan, garlic naan, and Popadoms. All the food was superb, every bit as delicious as it was at the restaurant. Portion sizes were about right, all the food (despite the long walk!) was hot and well packaged, perfectly cooked. The food isn't excessively spicy, but you can always ask, generally they will adjust to your taste. The naans and popadoms were very fresh, the rice, if anything, better than the restaurant, and the main meals themselves a good mix of meat, veg, and sauce. Thania Spice has obviously been hit hard the last couple of years, they no longer take credit cards on-premises, and the new location is a bit shabby (those that remember the early days above the bookies will remember then too!), but I urge you not to be put off. The food is still amazing.

This is just to let people know that this is the same THANIA SPICE that used to be above the coop on Alvechurch Rd West Heath opposite Onions garage. It appears they have had to move from there old premises to the woodpecker pub opposite Turves green girls school The reason for the review is mainly down to the value of the proposed restaurant, Currently this is not a restaurant and is only takeaway but the menu is still based on prices from when they were a sit in restaurant, I was given a voucher for £5 of the bill but when I only ordered £17 at full restaurant price I was told the voucher was only valid if my order was over £25 In my opinion the prices are excessive for a takeaway but would be reasonable for a sit in I can’t comment on the quality of the food as I didn’t purchase anything at that time, maybe if they adjust their menu prices for a takeaway

Have eaten in and taken away from here always have a good meal which is always tasty and hot. Staff always friendly and good service.

Been using for many years but tonight I ordered lamp chop starter lamb chop main meal mixed grill main chicken curry chicken tikka masala and sides no salard for 3 of the meals no mint sauce for the 3 meals the chops was just bone and the chicken on the mix grill was just bone and I am not exaggerating on the plus side my curry was lovely

Delicious piping hot food. Surprising really as they said they were unindated with orders on a Saturday night during the pandemic. We opted to collected our food as there was a two hour wait, we were able to collect in 50 minutes. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.. Would definitely order again!

Excellent Food, excellent value for money and a great team running the place. 4 adults and our bill was only £55 with 3 starters and 4 mains, all cooked to perfection! I highly recommend the Lamb Madras, and Thania Delight Starter. They will cater for vegans and vegetarians, just ask when ordering. It’s unlicensed so bring your own booze as well, they do sell soft drinks.

No frills Indian Nice food lovely naan bread and interesting main dishes. Steep stairs and not too warm. I wasn’t that keen on my dish, but I tasted the 3 of my friends and they were great. No alcohol - bring your own.

Best indian around west heath by a mile

My whole family have been using this restaurant for many years now, and we have never had a problem with their take away service but tonight we ordered and we where missing food from our order. So I rang them back up and explained that they had charged us for all of our order but their was food missing, I then found myself being spoken to extremely rudely! After 30 minutes I then ha the rest of my order delivered without any apology. It’s is easy to say that I won’t be using this restaurant again!

This is one of my favourite indian restraints, and there are quite a few in the local area. The food is excellent, well priced and always looks good too. The service is great, with friendly staff, they do not rush you between courses. So you can chat all night if you want. I would highly recommend this place.

Excellent food and service and very reasonable prices

I live a ten minute walk from the restaurant and would recommend it for large/small parties/couples/solo. I have visited it both with family/alone and the surroundings are pleasant and modern. I shall be dining there again with the family in August '19. It is up a flight of stairs. There is no lift. Guests bring their own wines and beers. It has had a couple of makeovers since it opened about 7 or so years ago.

Have used Thania Spice for many years as my local Indian Restaurant/Takeaway.. never had a problem..Even celebrated New Year there one year....Cheap n cheerful food. But tonight I rang to order a take away and I found myself being spoken to very rudely by the call handler. He was abrupt, patronising & less than helpful when I was trying to discuss my order.. He made trying to order a meal seem as though It was a great inconvenience to him..huffing & puffing at my order instead of accepting my order.. I ended up putting the phone down when he started to argue with me. Bizarre... went to Paprika in Longbridge instead... they know how to speak to customers.

Yes! Loved this place. Amazing offer Monday to Thursday..starter, curry dish, rice or nann for under a tenner. yes please. I opted for a chicken saag aloo balti Madras hot...my lord...the best balti I've had in a long time..the meat was so tender! Annnd it's byo!

We went on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet, just one other couple. Service was excellent and food is of good quality, very tasty and generous portions. Not licensed but you can take your own drinks. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a local Indian restaurant.

The best vegetable samosas you will ever eat. Fantastic service for every age group. My son ordered a Korma curry, but he did not like it, they asked him to pick another dish, no problem.

Acabo de recibir una entrega a domicilio y no estoy del todo impresionado.La comida estaba caliente. Las porciones eran un poco pequeñas y el pollo era muy gristly.Probablemente el peor curry que he tenido, y no hace falta decir que no volveré a ordenar de ellos.

The best dhansak I have ever tasted the chicken was cooked to perfection and the spices were fantastic the pakora starter was great as well we couldn't fault this restaurant reasonable prices as well thanks will definitely use again.

Best Indian food within the local area

Hemos comido aquí varias veces, pero desafortunadamente esta noche nuestra comida fue muy decepcionante. No es frecuente que se pueda decir que la comida india es insípida, pero que realmente carece de sabor. Además, mi comida era solo tibia. Cuando se nos preguntó si disfrutábamos de la comida, les contamos sobre la falta de sabor y dijeron que debíamos haber pedido que fuera más picante.

Visité el viernes por la noche para una comida con un amigo (estaba allí a las 7 pm y no reservé, se llenó pero no estaba lleno cuando nos fuimos).

We just got back home all our family went together food and service was so good as it was christmas day some of us hade traditional christmas dinner but 8 of us hade the indian meal it was totaly lovely food thank you so much lads by the way we do have your take aways and there fab as well thank you thania spice x

Eaten here a number of time have not been disappointed with the food in both quality and taste. Just don't be pu off by appearances from outside, inside decor comfortable and what you expect from asian restaruants.

Visited here with old school friends......On a Tuesday evening, place was very busy. Food was good for the money but not great but for £8•95 each, u can't complain

We very rarely go to an Indian restuarant so after reading the reviews for this restuarant and it is in the same road that we live on we decided to give it a try....

This restaurant never disappoints. Good service and delicious, well priced food. Their Tuesday and Thursday deal is such great value!

Thursday night is a set menu offer and is really good value for money, good is fresh and no massive waiting times.

We visited last week on a Thursday which was set menu evening if you choose to take this option rather than the main menu. We visited as two adults and three children 16,12 and 10. We all ate three courses with soft drinks for just over £50 and the food was really good, kids all enjoyed their food too. We are quite fussy about where we eat out but we would definitely return here as the food was so nice.

Best local balti restaurant by far. Chicken tikka Brenjal is delicious! Never fails on food.

Eat here quite often...we have never had a bad meal. Service and food are good...especially the meal deal they do on a Tuesday and Thursday! No complaints from us! :)

Really nice food, service was a little rude.

Prices are good, food is okay - a lot of the dishes I have had here tend to taste the same as others served under different names. It's pretty basic but the staff are friendly and you can take your own drink.

Absolute class one of my all time fave places to go and eat i recommend the veggie pakora starter its so good. Ive had the veggie dansak and my gf has the chicken balti both were amazing. Only downside is its in west heath

They do a deal in here on Tue and Thu i think, 3 courses for £8.95, so not bad value although the place can only be accessed by climbing quite a few stairs from the street, it does have a nice atmosphere. However the food is very bland, the curry's, balti's, bhuna's etc all seem very similar and are good for people that do not usually like Indian food as its almost completely tasteless. You can take your own drinks but be warned, if you dont buy any drinks from them you may be treated like dirt as we were on our last visit, they were rude and ignorant to us and when we left they called my friend back and told him that when you have the special 3 course offer next time you must buy drinks. Well there wont be a next time because we were made to feel very uncomfortable.

Pedimos una especial esta noche a las 9 de Thania Spice. 30:00h con pan Naan y arroz hervido. Llegó bastante rápido. El pan Naan era pesado, gruesas y pastoso. El arroz era bastante luz y esponjosas. El plato principal y eran vergüenza. Cristal en apariencia, grasienta, aguada, marinado y totalmente insípido. Yo solía usar este lugar para llevar y sentar las visitas. No vamos allí. Absolutamente horrible. :)

El restaurante está por encima de algunas tiendas que tumbarse ligeramente, así que podría pasar y no sabía que el restaurante estaba allí. El lugar está muy bien decorado y debo decir que el servicio fue muy bueno (aunque los poppadoms preguntando si queríamos, que era un poco molesto). La comida estaba muy buena, tenía un pollo pathia y naan, ambos eran encantadores. Usted puede tomar su propio alcohol en el restaurante, pero como hay un tramo de escaleras para acceder, las personas con discapacidad puede encontrar una lucha.

Very nice food. Meat is nice and chunky and the flavours are excellent on the palate. The food was delivered on time and the delivery driver was very smart. If you want a good tasty curry use this curry house, you won't be disappointed.

Vamos prácticamente una vez al mes para las edades siempre tienen una gran comida con un servicio excelente. Nada es demasiada molestia para el personal y un plus está llevando sus propias bebidas que hace una noche más barato con dos tiendas en un minutos a pie desde el restaurante.

Visitamos aquí un martes por la noche para la oferta especial. . . Muy buena relación calidad-precio. La comida estaba bien presentada y buenas porciones. Hay un buen ambiente en el restaurante. . . No estaba demasiado concurrido. El servicio es bueno. Llevar tus propias bebidas ya que no sirven alcohol. . Pero esto es bueno ya que la cuenta fue de £18 para nosotros dos. ¡Volveremos!

Very nice onside food good value . Do not go if you have trouble with climbing stairs it's a long way up to the resturant. No lift .

I think this place is amazing. This is where i found out that i like curry and i love it so thank you to thania spice also the staff are so polite and friendly. i know the staff very well and my favourite is ali who sadly left but he is so funny and i couldnt ask for anyone better and thats why i think this palce should be 5 star.
