Thames Lido in Reading

My partner and I have been here twice- once in the day and once in the evening. Had the tapas once and the second time had a full meal. The restaurant is great. Lovely service, temperature good in the winter, and the music is not too loud. Plenty of vegetarian options on the menu - all delicious. We tested the lomi lomi and back/neck/shoulder massages. I'd say the lomi lomi isn't as 'intense' as other places but both still very relaxing and the therapists are lovely. Great pool/tub/steam/sauna; plenty of room, clean, and beautiful. Changing rooms are a bit tiny but that's a small price to pay for the gorgeous smelling shower gel/shampoo. I love it. Great spot - we will definitely be back especially with how easy it is to come in via transit. Both times we were either in a rush on the way in/out and walking quickly you can get there from the station in less than 15 mins - running (say, for a train back to London, with great urgency) you can get to the station in 5 mins (horrible but it can be done). Also planning to try the Bristol location at some point!

We booked a package that included spa facilities, massage and 2 course meal. I think it is a good value. The water in the pool outside was a little cold but we actually loved it after hot tub and the sauna. The hot tub can get a little busy at times. Massage was absolutely fantastic. Carole was very polite and did a great job. She even recommended few tricks with my shoulder, which I appreciate. The meal was tasty. Definitely worth the money and wait. All staff members were polite and friendly. Parking is tricky and limited, however we only waited for 5 minutes and were able to find the space. Up to 3 hours free parking. There is another parking that is right next to Lido's parking. I am not sure about their pricing.

Good if you’re on a budget. I think some the reception staff were a bit immature, making inappropriate jokes in front of guests and also swearing too & having to clarify to guests they were serving it wasn’t at them but to their colleague.

Eye-opening massage experience, never new I could feel tension relief or relaxation like that. Very sensual and calming, and came away feeling refreshed and cheerful. All the staff were super helpful and respectful at all times. Want to visit again.

Lovely staff, beautiful pool and excellent facilities. We came for a swim and lunch. It was a great day out and the food was excellent

This place is really brilliant! We came from London just to try it last weekend and were so happy we will come back again this week. We did the 3 hour session with 2 course lunch included and the price was ridiculously low for £35. For this price you only just get a one or two course meal in London. We didn't swim in the swimming pool as the 26 degrees is low for us. I spent the 3 hours in the hot outdoor jacuzzi and it was perfect and hot while the rain was pouring outside and you can watch the people swimming in the swimming pool. My husband did two hours in the jacuzzi and one hour in the steam room and saune which were quite spacious.The place has a sense of openess which is rare for a UK spa. The place is very well looked after and very colourful and the ambience is happy and calming. The food was just amazing and greta value. I got a started of walnut and pear salad and my husband got a main of the beef steak and dessert of the cheese platter. The mains especially came in very good temperature and in huge quantities and were really tasty. The only difficult part is that there aren't any changing rooms and locker area so you ahve to give your things to the reception who put them in lockers there and you have to change your clothes inside the shower areas so it can be a bit dump. It was easier that I thought though as the reception is very fast and efficient and take tout clothes immediately and give you wrist bands with numbers so it all works well. We will become regulars and hopefully will be able to swim a bit as well in the summer time.

We had the pleasure of dining at Thames Lido on Saturday evening, 25th January and Helena made our experience truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, she was warm, attentive, and incredibly patient, especially as we navigated several food intolerances. Her thoughtful and friendly service made us feel genuinely cared for, and her attention to detail did not go unnoticed. Helena is an absolute asset to Thames Lido, and we can’t thank her enough for making our evening so enjoyable!

Beautiful location to spend a cold winter day! Amazing pool, hot tub and sauna - and totally amazing food (and wine).

Absolutely lovely place. Very calming atmosphere, lovely staff. I had a pedicure which was blissful. Personally, I find the outdoor swimming to be a little on the chilly side, but I think I'm quite soft!

Pluses: cool venue. Nice vibe. Great food. Fantastic bar staff. Nice wine. Minuses: cramped wet changing rooms, no lockers, chaotic reception/bag check/coat check. Pool chilly unless bashing out lengths. Pool too busy to bash out lengths. Hot tub rammed all the time. The whole place is losing its shine. A curate’s egg.

We enjoyed all the facilities: the pool, massage, and dinner. Despite the cold weather outside (around 0°C), swimming in the outdoor pool was a pleasure. It wasn’t too crowded and was exceptionally clean. The massage was the best I’ve ever had, and dinner was a perfect way to end the experience, offering a great selection of small plates. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Disfrutamos mucho de esta parte de nuestra experiencia. Luego tuvimos un almuerzo de dos platos en el restaurante. Aquí es donde la experiencia realmente se decepcionó. Nos atendió una camarera muy hosca. Nos sentimos apresurados a ordenar y cuando pedimos tiempo extra ella era muy cortés. Para comer, tenía salmón. Esto estaba destinado a venir con masa agria y no lo hizo. Traté de llamar la atención de alguien, pero nadie vino. Tampoco nadie comprueba cómo fue la comida para el entrante o principal Como principal todos teníamos perdiz. Creo que mi compañero de cena lo describió mejor como un poco de "pollo viejo seco". Además, mi plato estaba frío como piedra, así que mi polent y espinaca también estaba frío como piedra. Pedí un trago de piña y refrigerador de menta que nunca llegó. Es una lástima que el lugar es precioso. Pero muy mala comida y servicio. El 12. 5 cargo por servicio realmente se me quedó en la garganta, pero no tanto como todos los pellets en mi perdiz.

Great food, environment and service

Delicious lunch package - very well priced, great quality / cooking. Staff attentive and friendly, facilities well managed and clean. Beautiful venue! Had a wonderful winter afternoon - 5/5 recommend, will definitely be back!

We have been here a few times in the past and loved it. We have always been so impressed by the high quality food. However when we went recently we found our experience underwhelming. It was fine but when you are paying £27 for a main course you expect so much more. My wife's steak was quite chewy and my partridge was quite dry. It just wasn't great so we left disappointed. Our bill came to over £120 so a huge amount of money for food that was ok but not great. Such a shame as we normally go here as a treat but not sure we will risk paying that money again for something mediocre.

Awesome lunch with my bestie today- literally couldn’t fault it! Small plates delish- recommend radicchio salad and harissa chicken especially! Finished with espresso martinis- yum! Such a treat an a really special place. Thanks for a lovely few hours!

Beautifully restored lido. Really enjoyed swimming outdoors in the rain of Storm Bert, followed by warming up in the sauna and finishing with a super relaxing massage.

Urban oasis....swimming backstroke while breathing out plumes of steam on a freezing November night....my idea of heaven.

A lovely, professionally run environment. The staff and food were amazing. The pool’s a bit busy with a clear divide between the serious swimmers and visitors there to relax and enjoy but I’d definitely go again!

Relaxant place with good customer service. Hot stone massage is lovely, really trained staff with good manners and courtesy. Food in the restaurant is also great however not served throughout the entire day, this could be an opportunity to improve. The venue is clean and looked after with a 3 hours free car park. Take your time and book ahead for everything you want to achieve in order to avoid disappointment in any way.

Beautiful lido, made the trip from London to see this. Food was fantastic and affordable, the building is beautiful, really well maintained facilities. The pool wasn't as warm as we expected, but was fine after a minute. Even though it was fairly full, it still felt so luxury.

Had a great day at the lido with my wife. We had massages. Michelle got short straw and got me. The massage was exactly what I wanted! Super firm and I felt like I was 2 feet taller when I left!! We’ll be back!

Beautiful facilities, service was very good

I really had a good time going to the Thames lido yesterday. The staff are very nice and friendly. The pool was a nice spacious outdoor pool with a great experience and selection of different amenities, sauna and steam room. A good value for money to chill out and great proximity to the centre of Reading. Though I’m out of reading resident it is very close to the train station. Friendly also for storage of personal items.

Had the swim and breakfast. Great experience. Not overcrowded. Yummy food. Swim ,sauna, steam and repeat.

Experiencia decepcionante. Pagué por 2 horas de estacionamiento pero recibí £ 60 multa no tenía recibo, así que tuve que pagar multa. El restaurante se dio cuenta después de salir que uno de los platos de tapas que pedimos no llegó, el pollo, pero aún así pagó por él y el entrante de sopa de mantequilla necesitaba un recordatorio con el personal de espera y vino después de los platos pequeños. Y hace mucho frío para mantener abrigos dentro. No volvería.

I've visited a few times and think the Lido is fab. Yesterday I booked a package as it was my partner's birthday. The value was unbelievably good - 2 hour's use of pool and spa, 1 hour massage/treatment then small plates dinner (3 small plates + flatbread) all for £85pp. Not only was it amazing value, but all the elements were fantastic. We had a good swim, sauna, hot tub in gorgeous surroundings. I then had one of the best massage/facials I've ever had (my therapist was Olivia & my partner's was Lea - both were amazing). We then had a really delicious meal in the restaurant with lovely service (and a great bottle of wine). The lido is so handy because it is right by the station, so we didn't need to drive (we live in Newbury). I'm going back again in a few weeks - I love this place!!!

My best friend and I had an evening in the spa and a massage. I had Val and she was AMAZING!! Best massage I’ve had here and I’ve had a lot. I could not recommend this place more. Until next time xx

Great venue. Enclosed, outdoor pool. Cool/cold, good for swimming with sauna, steam room and hot tub to warm up in after and massage treatments. Very nice venue with friendly staff and amazing food.

My massage was with a man, I forgot his name, but he was incredible and I'd go as far as to say it's the best massage I've ever had in my life!!! We booked swim, massage and dinner session for husband and myself, we went with Classic lido massages for both of us. Restaurant has good atmosphere, good food, but it was the worst experience of a massage I’ve ever had. Instead of hands and palms, lady went on using her elbow to massage my back which now two days later feels like someone had used torture device on my back. Skipped some of the areas altogether, I am not the one to nitpick or fight but basic . Having taken treatments and massages all over the world in best places in Dubai, India, Europe and UK as well. I honestly feel this was the worst experience I’ve had ever. It’s been two days, my back is still sore, I feel compelled to write this review. Maybe the masseuse (seemed like a lady in her 50s) was having a bad day and my luck to have met her that evening. I definitely will be cautious returning here, Nirvana and lazy frog massages for me.

Came here for my cousins birthday and did the package where we get to use the pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room alongside a 2 course meal. Lovely shower rooms, the outside was beautiful in the evening and we got use of all the facilities. I wish we had a bit longer than an hour and a half to use the facilities but it was still lovely. The food was out of this world! I highly recommend the Hogget, steak and Cod.. all beautifully presented! You can also bring your own bottle of wine too without any corkage fee!

Fantastic place! The pool is heated to a lovely 24 C (in October). The sauna is proper hot at 80C - I didn't expect it to be soo nice, much better than what you'd find in any gym. Steam room is lovely too. The restaurant is also very nice and good value for money. All in all definitely a hidden gem and only 30 mins away from Paddington!

After a hectic summer, I have just had the most relaxing day ever here. A fantastic place with a great pool and amazing food. The spa is top notch. LOVE this place.

Absolutely loved our first experience here. Did a package (swim & eat) and would fully recommend. From entry to exit the team were wonderful. Service was so good and the food was delightful. Almost didn’t want to post as it was the perfect level of busy … but it’s too good not to post about! Will be back again!

Great way to unwind. We have booked the swim and dine package and the swim and lunch package, which was great value. You get an hour and a half in the facilities and then have a table in the restaurant with two courses. The facilities are great - hot tub / pool that is amazing for lounging in, sauna and steam room, a range of showers (cold plunge and hot ones) and a great swimming pool with a mix of speeds to suit everyone. The food is absolutely delicious, the menu was the same for lunch and dinner. We went only a month apart for the two sessions, but believe they change the menu every few months. A really great place to unwind and relax or as a date with someone special.

Acabo de pasar un excelente día en el lido. Equipo amable, profesional y un entorno encantador. Es muy encantador. Reservamos un paquete de natación, masaje y almuerzo que costó £ 170 para dos. Pasamos un par de horas en la piscina, sauna y baño de vapor. Albornoz y toalla fueron proporcionados, pero necesitará algo de calzado apropiado. Luego subimos a las salas de tratamiento donde ambos tuvimos un masaje de una hora, muchas opciones disponibles. Gritar a Hollie que hizo un trabajo increíble, muy profesional y realmente relajante. Después de pasar un tiempo en la sala chill out con una taza de té de hierbas nos dirigimos abajo para el almuerzo. Personalmente, la experiencia me pareció buena, no sentí que hubiera pagado demasiado. Este es un lugar muy encantador y lleno de carácter, un lugar muy agradable para pasar un tiempo y relajarse. No es para niños, no es ese tipo de piscina, ¡estarían muy aburridos! Si utiliza el aparcamiento en el lugar no olvide pagar en la máquina en el lido antes de salir.

Delicious food and gorgeous relaxing environment - pricey though

Great experience, superb and lively staff, excellent quality dining yet somewhat spoiled by the carpark nonsense. Spending over £100 there in an afternoon and STILL getting nailed for £6 parking. Which i wont be paying

Such a calm and beautiful place to relax. I was invited to join a girlfriend (who is a member) for a chill out and lunch. We were lucky as it was a sunny day in September. We enjoyed the steam room, sauna, huge outdoor hot tub and we had a refreshing swim in the pool. Note the pool is designed for swimming rather than lounging and is therefore on the cool side. We then had a shower, changed and sat down to a delicious tapas style lunch. I am vegetarian and there were plenty of options from falafel, hummus, a beetroot dip, wafers of courgette with feta, burrata in a pesto dressing and patatas bravas - which we enjoyed with a flatbread each. Three small plates plus a flatbread was actually too much for us so we took a doggy bag of leftovers home. I would suggest two plates plus bread unless you are ravenous. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for and the quality of the food was very good. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would definitely go again as a treat. The small car park gets full on busy days but there is a pay and display adjacent.

Absolutely love the Lido whether you’re going for a swim or having a meal. The food is incredible. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely and it feels so classy, I’ve been here about four or five times now and every single visit, I’m impressed by the food the service and the value.

Beautiful place with a nice energy. The whole place is gorgeous, the decor, the table settings, the menus even. It's lovely. The cocktails are amazing, I had the honey and thyme gin cocktail it was so delicious and I'm not usually a big fan of gin. The food was fantastic as well. My friend and I ordered 5 sharing, tapas type plates, we were completely stuffed. The food was flavourful and came up very quickly. Then the service was fantastic, we were seated by a very nice chatty guy who got us our drinks quickly. Then the rest of the night we were served by a friendly young Australian guy. All in all a wonderful experience, great food and lovely service. Will definitely be coming back and recommending to everyone I know!

What an amazing place. We had a twilight swim session followed by a meal, and it was just perfect.

Too many local swimming facilities have been lost over the decades. This one is an excellent example of how to keep and maintain pools for the community.

Favourite place to swim. Staff are welcoming, changing rooms are always clean, and the body wash smells amazing! Went for breakfast recently and really enjoyed it.

I visited the Lido for the first time with my partner as part of the swim, massage and meal package. We had a very warm welcome and offered a tour when asked if this was our first time which I really appreciated, I'm sorry I didn't catch the staff members name but she was lovely (all the reception staff were)! The building is gorgeous and the facilities are not huge but perfect for the size of the place and amount of people there. I got to use the steam room, sauna, hot tub and pool comfortably. My massage and facial treatment was excellent and the tea in the relaxation room afterwards is such a lovely touch. The meal was surprisingly authentic Spanish tapas - delicious and very filling. I was served by more lovely members of staff in the restaurant and happily paid the optional service charge. My only criticism was the pool was a bit cold but this might have been because it was raining all morning. Apart from that, it was a perfect day and I will definitely be back - thank you!

The food and the atmosphere here is wonderful

Service was okay. Overpriced for what it was. The sauce on the steak was too powerful and took the flavour away from it. The sauce is meant to enhance the flavour. Not overpowering it.

Amazing spot to spend the day, swim and eat well near London!

I went the other day for an evening spa package. I found the entire facility to be overrun, with limited ability to use the hot tub, sauna, steam room and sun loungers. It was immediately clear that the Thames Lido is perhaps more of a social scene than somewhere to relax. There were only 8 sun loungers, with the rest of the seating being for restaurant users, so being able to sit and read was not an option. The pool was quite chilly at 25°, which to me isn't a relaxing temperature. My massage was a disaster. The therapist tried to tell me I was having a facial, despite me even getting my massage booking up. She did give me my booked massage but it pretty bad - very light strokes and I cannot say I felt any benefit to my muscles or stress levels. She did not ask me what sort of pressure I like and it got to a point where I could tell it did not matter what I requested - last massage of a hot day. It was so disappointing. Staff were friendly upon arrival, but did not ask me how my visit was at the end. I had to pay an additional £6 for parking too, which I don't think is appropriate when paying for a package or treatment. I won't be returning.

Great restaurant serving tapas style food. Indoor and outdoor tables available around the pool so you can swim first or just watch others. Pool is warm enough and the large hot tub is great to warm up in if you are cold. Have been here a couple of times, restaurant staff are excellent and happy to take the time to chat and recommend what food to order. Food is very good and pricing is OK for central Reading. Recommend.

Oh my gosh, the Lido is brilliant. The pool is refreshing, shallow both ends so even non swimmers can also enjoy it. Nice touch, the steam room has a glass window overlooking the pool. Lunch was tasty, and hearty with vegan/vegetarian options. Overall, a lovely adult only experience.

The food in the restaurant was nice alongside a good drinks offering. It’s an upmarket lido and I’m glad I went, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back there from London as the pool was very cold and the sauna and steam room were not very hot either.

Beautiful relaxing facilities, incredible massage (all the knots in my shoulders are gone) and delicious tapas. All so easy to get to from London and great value for money. I’m telling all my friends!

I actually visited here on the back of seeing them on Sky News on one of the hottest days of the year. Now, let me start by saying the staff were first class and the service was exceptional. Very welcoming, happy and smiley, I couldn't fault the service from the team here. They went above and beyond. The facilities were adequate, large changing rooms, belongings kept behind reception. Large Sauna, great showers, both hot and cold, nice fresh spacious pool, overall non crowded calm relaxing atmosphere. I had taken my mother as a treat for afternoon tea. What was disappointing was the cheapened version of classic cut sandwiches, instead getting two flatbreads or pittas, with a selection of awful tasting dips - afternoon tea with dips, i thought, give it a go? The only real highlight was the double chocolate slice and cappuccino and tea. Again the service was excellent, the staff were lovely. But the food was a letdown for the price paid. I'd have to think very seriously about going again.

Went recently everything about it was perfect!

We bought a swim and lunch package for our anniversary. The spa is cosy but big enough to enjoy the facilities. A dip in the pool was divine. The surrounding architecture plus a blue sky made this experience so special. The food was delicious and the staff in the spa and restaurant made us feel welcome and looked after. Totally recommend. The fish stew was to die for.

The place is overcrowded and badly managed. The problem with lack of space ( 1 sauna (functioning), only 1 steam room, only 1 overcrowded small pool with about 20 ppl at once, jacuzzi packed so that there is no place to enter) they try to resolve by set of rules that are particularly discriminating towards children. They offer one hour morning and evening swim for families but in that slot of time don’t allow children to enter hot tub, giving health end safety reason as an excuse?! It’s cold in the open and any person would find it very uncomfortable to be subjected only to swimming in heated but cold pool for entire hour without access to a warmer area of the spa or at least hot tub. Furthermore, regular local members of the public intimidated my 10 yo daughter interpreting the rules in the pool while she was swimming. Rules are plenty and some ridiculous: in a small space there is a Speedy lane for swimming clockwise, Medium anti-clockwise and Slow also clockwise) Entire experience made her cry in the end. I wandered why did we pay to be exposed to such unwelcoming culture in supposedly relaxing spa facility. Smell of kitchen fumes was directly extracted in to the swimming area which was additionally unpleasant . Wasted day out but also very upsetting experience.

Have been here twice most recently for the swim and tapas package. Staff are lovely and although it's popular it's never too crowded. Fast becoming a girly treat go to.

This was booked as a spa experience birthday treat for myself and family. I had not read up on the venue before arriving Arrived with time to enjoy the pool, hot pool, sauna, steam room. Had a swim in a quiet pool but unable to use the hot pool or sauna as it was packed all of the time. The steam room was just warm. I got cold waiting for my treatment, there was nowhere to sit and wait comfortably. The package was booked for me so as I mentioned had not read up on the venue, so when it came to my treatment was VERY surprised to see a male “beautician”. The Tapas was good Customers should have been made to have a shower and soap down before entering the pool I would not recommend

Really good value for money, been to fancier spas but this has everything you need in a relaxed & non fussy setting!
