The food in the restaurant was nice alongside a good drinks offering. It’s an upmarket lido and I’m glad I went, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back there from London as the pool was very cold and the sauna and steam room were not very hot either.

I went the other day for an evening spa package. I found the entire facility to be overrun, with limited ability to use the hot tub, sauna, steam room and sun loungers. It was immediately clear that the Thames Lido is perhaps more of a social scene than somewhere to relax. There were only 8 sun loungers, with the rest of the seating being for restaurant users, so being able to sit and read was not an option. The pool was quite chilly at 25°, which to me isn't a relaxing temperature. My massage was a disaster. The therapist tried to tell me I was having a facial, despite me even getting my massage booking up. She did give me my booked massage but it pretty bad - very light strokes and I cannot say I felt any benefit to my muscles or stress levels. She did not ask me what sort of pressure I like and it got to a point where I could tell it did not matter what I requested - last massage of a hot day. It was so disappointing. Staff were friendly upon arrival, but did not ask me how my visit was at the end. I had to pay an additional £6 for parking too, which I don't think is appropriate when paying for a package or treatment. I won't be returning.

I actually visited here on the back of seeing them on Sky News on one of the hottest days of the year. Now, let me start by saying the staff were first class and the service was exceptional. Very welcoming, happy and smiley, I couldn't fault the service from the team here. They went above and beyond. The facilities were adequate, large changing rooms, belongings kept behind reception. Large Sauna, great showers, both hot and cold, nice fresh spacious pool, overall non crowded calm relaxing atmosphere. I had taken my mother as a treat for afternoon tea. What was disappointing was the cheapened version of classic cut sandwiches, instead getting two flatbreads or pittas, with a selection of awful tasting dips - afternoon tea with dips, i thought, give it a go? The only real highlight was the double chocolate slice and cappuccino and tea. Again the service was excellent, the staff were lovely. But the food was a letdown for the price paid. I'd have to think very seriously about going again.

The place is overcrowded and badly managed. The problem with lack of space ( 1 sauna (functioning), only 1 steam room, only 1 overcrowded small pool with about 20 ppl at once, jacuzzi packed so that there is no place to enter) they try to resolve by set of rules that are particularly discriminating towards children. They offer one hour morning and evening swim for families but in that slot of time don’t allow children to enter hot tub, giving health end safety reason as an excuse?! It’s cold in the open and any person would find it very uncomfortable to be subjected only to swimming in heated but cold pool for entire hour without access to a warmer area of the spa or at least hot tub. Furthermore, regular local members of the public intimidated my 10 yo daughter interpreting the rules in the pool while she was swimming. Rules are plenty and some ridiculous: in a small space there is a Speedy lane for swimming clockwise, Medium anti-clockwise and Slow also clockwise) Entire experience made her cry in the end. I wandered why did we pay to be exposed to such unwelcoming culture in supposedly relaxing spa facility. Smell of kitchen fumes was directly extracted in to the swimming area which was additionally unpleasant . Wasted day out but also very upsetting experience.

We bought a swim and lunch package for our anniversary. The spa is cosy but big enough to enjoy the facilities. A dip in the pool was divine. The surrounding architecture plus a blue sky made this experience so special. The food was delicious and the staff in the spa and restaurant made us feel welcome and looked after. Totally recommend. This was booked as a spa experience birthday treat for myself and family. I had not read up on the venue before arriving Arrived with time to enjoy the pool, hot pool, sauna, steam room. Had a swim in a quiet pool but unable to use the hot pool or sauna as it was packed all of the time. The steam room was just warm. I got cold waiting for my treatment, there was nowhere to sit and wait comfortably. The package was booked for me so as I mentioned had not read up on the venue, so when it came to my treatment was VERY surprised to see a male “beautician”. The Tapas was good Customers should have been made to have a shower and soap down before entering the pool I would not recommend

We’ve been to the Lido several times and it never disappoints. In some ways it’s slightly odd to eat while someone swims by, but it adds to the character and helps with the sense this is the sort of place you associate with your holidays. The food remains excellent, if anything slightly better than our last visit. The dishes all nod towards the Mediterranean, being of a good size and featuring a wealth of flavours and textures. It all feels healthy and wholesome. Good value wines, including some local ones. The standout dish was the simplest, Pedro Ximenez and raisin ice cream. Naughty but nice.

Not the best spa experience to start what should be a relaxing Sunday. Booked a treatment 2 weeks in advanced and arrived early as requested by the staff when I booked on the spa counter. On the day of the treatment they sent me to the cafe because I was too early…..then when coming upstairs for the treatment, I wasn’t offer a robe nor a place to change in case I needed to and not even water before starting the treatment …. they also placed me on the wrong side of the facilities and fought about it in front of me…. Super relaxing for a ‘spa’. Then they appeared to had mixed staff members for the treatment I had requested so I ended up asking for a cancellation and a refund, which wasn’t done normally but through their internal system because apparently I didn’t pay on reception but over the phone or website when I specifically went to their reception 2 weeks before for the booking and when asking if I could have an email confirming the refund, I mean….if looks could kill I wouldn’t be writing this now… Let’s hope the refunds it’s done properly. I would never be setting a foot on the spa side of that establishment again.

It's nice but overpriced for what it is. Not really much space in the spa/changing rooms but clean and tidy. I would of thought dressing gowns, towels etc would have been included in the price given how expensive it is. The staff were friendly. The food was overcooked, the coffee was nice, but adding a service charge for that experience wasn't good enough. I prefer to decide to tip based on the experience. Overall, not worth the money. My partner surprised me this morning with a trip to my favourite haven in Reading in which I have visited several times before and had always throughly enjoyed. He made the booking online the day before and used his credit card to make the reservation. After a lovely swim, sauna and steam (hot tub overcrowded as usual) I headed to the restaurant to enjoy my lunch (booked the swim and dine package). The food was impeccable and was a perfect finish to my relaxing afternoon. This was until I was told that I needed to pay for the package that my partner had pre booked the day before with his credit card details. After a rather curt explanation from a female waitress with her back turned to me whilst she attended other things, I was informed that it's "in case I didn't turn up" that's why. I have to say it really did put a very negative spin on what should have been a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. I left feeling very disheartened. The lido should make it more clear on their website to avoid spoiling anyone else's afternoon in future.

First time and probably of many. This place is a wondrous gem. From its Edwardian design and amazing food, to its fantastic staff and facilities. We went for the dinner swim package. Greeted by Jess - she was warm, welcoming, friendly, helpful - exactly what you want to start the relaxation from the moment you walk through the door. Everything was flawlessly clean and well presented. Jess showed us what to do and where everything was. We started in the steam room, then the pool, hot tub, cold showers, sauna….and pretty much went round again. It was seriously relaxing. After our chill time with the water we showered and changed for dinner. Served by Helena, who was cheery, chilled, helpful and attentive, our package included a starter and main or main and dessert. We both opted for starter - my wife having scallops and me the Guinea fowl crockets - and main - my wife had the Guinea fowl and I had the lamb. Everything was brilliantly presented, ample yet light, extremely tasty. The lamb was just the right level of pink - as Helena said it would be. Helena was on hand throughout for drinks and when we ordered the bill. All the staff were smiley and friendly. As we passed the bar area to leave everyone wished us a pleasant evening and thanked us for coming. It was an amazing experience - one we’ll certainly be doing again sometime soon.

Really beautiful and calm place with fantastic food, coffee and pastries and decent service. It was, however, extremely expensive. £120 for two of us to get the swim/lunch package of two courses, plus coffees and buns) and for that price I’d like a less crowded pool, a dry place to hang my towel out of the rain (or a free dry towel) and a parking space. (I had to pay an extra £6 to park in the adjacent public car park as lido car park was full). So it was lovely but too expensive.

I am a bit of a "Spa tourist" and have been to quite a few in the UK and abroad - had a pretty good experience at Thames Lido, although a couple of things seemed off. I booked the £40 Swim & Eat package for dinner at 18.00, so arrived at 16.30 as indicated in the booking e-mail. I found a space in the car park, which gives 3h of free parking to guests - that was great. I was then given a brief intro by the pleasant receptionist, who advised that towel rental cost £3/towel and robe rental cost £5, which I didn't expect as it wasn't indicated in the booking e-mail. So I paid £3 for a towel and went to change. The Lido facilities are nice - the building itself, the open-air pool, the open-air hot tub, the steam room and the sauna. However, between changing to go in & out - the 1h30mins for the pre-dinner Spa actually boil down to about only 1h of actually enjoying the facilities, which is pretty short. It would need to be 2h to make it worthwhile I think. The dinner was nice also - if you're not buying a package, the prices are steep. The £40 didn't include the discretionary service charge, which again isn't indicated in the booking e-mail. Having bought an extra of side bread & olive oil for £4.50, the discretionary service charge ended up being £4.75. So overall, while I had expected to pay £40 for the package, what I actually paid including the towel and service charge and minus the extra bread was £47.75. An extra £7.75 isn't going to break the bank, but the management should advise of these extra charges in the booking e-mail, so guests know what to expect. Overall, not sure I would be back unless I had no other choice in the area, although it was nice to visit once and see the building, as the Spa was recommended to me by a friend.

Be Careful if you order the Flatbread! My mother and I had lunch at the Lido today. It was very busy and we turned up without a booking on the off chance. We were asked to sit in the bar as the Restaurant was full. The food and service was satisfactory. My complaint was about the charcoal from the flatbread baked in the oven that stained not only my hands, but my glasses, glasses case and clothes as well which I did not realize until I got home. I think there is a risk here that needs to be addressed or we need to be forewarned that this could happen. I have been to the Lido numerous times and most recently as a Speaker at the "Women in Business Event" where the food laid on was excellent and we were looked after extremely well by your staff, so I'm sorry to have to report a more negative experience this time. I hope that the Management will take my feedback into consideration and that our future experiences will be as good as they have been in the past. Many thanks.

Visited on a Sunday with the Swim & Massage package. Booked lunch separately afterwards. Visited with 2 friends. Was able to book treatments to occur at the same time. The Lido offers a picturesque setting. However, the rest was a bit disappointing. Changing facilities are comprised of individual, tiny wet shower rooms. There were not enough hooks inside and if the room was wet it made changing with your bags tricky. No where to keep your belongings apart from with receiption, which I personally did not want to do. If you're going to have a treatment, I suggest you bring your belongings into the treatment room so you can use the treatment room to change back into your clothes since this is a nice, dry, and roomy space. The treatment rooms are lovely spaces, each with a big window overlooking the Lido. My treatment was disappointing. I had a Back, Neck, Shoulder, and Facial. I was asked many times if I had been there before (e.g. on arrival at reception and then from my treatment provider), to which I always responded no. However, my response did not then prompt the Lido staff member to offer me more information which may have improved my experience. I received the massage first which was fine but nothing amazing. We then went straight into the facial. I was not told what products would be used nor was I asked about any concerns I had about my skin. It wasn't until I asked if the facial was bespoke to my skin or just generic that I was told it was just generic. Had I known this, I would not have booked this treatment. I only wanted a facial because I had been struggling with my skin lately. A generic treatment with unknown products is not what I was after. I still have no idea what was used. She told me the first product was a cleanser but after that I have no idea. The hot tub was not hot, and was often overcrowded. The steam room would benefit from some essential oils. A robe and towel is given to you on arrival which is handy. On the package I booked, you are allowed to use the services 2 hours before your treatment however, they were a bit inflexible about this and would not let us check-in until 2 hours before. This does not allow one time to get changed before the 2 hours start to be ready to use the facilities at the 2 hour mark. There were not enough hooks around the pool to hang up your towel/robe while swimming, especially when some people used them to hang up their bags. A few tweaks could make this place really great.

Today wasn't the best, in fact the reception staff somewhat ruined my day, which was also my birthday. We were met by a very rude member of the reception staff, Jade, and were immediately sent to her naughty step. Rather than a friendly welcome we were ordered to wait in the bar area on account of being 20 minutes early. Fine, but make your messages clear before arrival, and also be nice about it! We'd travelled a long way. No warm welcome or any further instructions at all. Her tone was somewhere between a school headmistress and your mother, but when you're really in trouble... When we returned she actually told us we were still TWO or THREE minutes earlier than her stipulated time and was angry, verging on aggressive. She then accused us of not doing as we had been told! Her manager did try to resolve the situation, well sort of, resulting in a memorised insincere two sentence speel said with equal aggression, before Jade literally span on her heels in a sulk. This all took the first hour of our two hours in the spa, so not exactly relaxing or a good use of time. None of this is particularly normal in my experience for a spa. Massage was lovely and food was as good as it always is, but Thames LIDO, if you are pitching yourself as a spa, not a public swimming pool then take a look at your front line as they create that first impression, good or bad, and they literally ruined my day. Having talked to some of your regulars, this seems to be a bit of a common theme, not a one off. These things don't go unnoticed.

Just the most gorgeous, beautifully restored Lido I've ever seen. We enjoyed the outdoor (coolish) swim and calm restaurant for a coffee and some light food. Hope to return soon!

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to all at Thames Lido for what is now several years of amazing service. The staff here are so good. In the restaurant, on reception, and the masseurs/eusses Nothing is ever too much trouble. Thank you Sophie, Amelia, Andrea, Harris, George, Gio and all the rest whose names I haven’t learnt yet.!

The best place ever. This is such an amazing venue for rest, exercise, well being and happiness in general. The staff are amazing, the food is fabulous and it's a full on feast for your senses at the lido from massage, to steam, sauna, beautiful pool followed by great food and drinks

Took a day off work to relax and take car of my stress levels and thought going to the Lido would help. As it turns out it cost £170 in parking fees and much stress in failed disputes, from the legalised mafia that run their parking. All because when I walked in to the reception and and started entering my car details in the parking machine, the receptionaist at Thames Lido told me I didn't need to do that. But didn't say I should instead do it when I leave. In fact I said to her that I was surprised that I didn't need need to..

Came for one of the 'work from Lido' packages which was good value. Incredible to see the old historical pool renovated with its original period charm with a contemporary blend. Only downside was the coffee machine down and max 3 hours car park free. Would come back!

Popped in this afternoon for a late lunch and were delighted to be able to be squeezed in to a busy lunch service. Aldo looked after us from start to finish and was an absolutely amazing host, he made us feel welcome, was friendly and attentive and made the experience really relaxing and stress free. The food was delicious and I felt very special!

Great place, all facilities were clean and had a friendly atmosphere. With christmas decorations the place looked so great after sunset. The steam and dry saunas were so nice too. I booked a swim and dine package - and I wasn't expecting a lot for the food. However the food was spot on, those were one of the best plates I had in uk. Would definitely come back!

Disappointed going here this time. Booked a swim and afternoon tea. After arriving we found out the hot tub was cold, when we told reception they said we're aware!!! No apology, no mention of this when we arrived!! After been there an hour they finally came out and put a cover over the hot tub!! Afternoon tea was really nice and the building is amazing, just disappointed with the finer details of customer service.

Amazing place and experience! I made a reservation for one full day + massage but they called me and said that no one was available to give a massage, they offered for me and my boyfriend to still go and spend the day and rebook the massage for another day + another full day at spa. Could not have ask for a better outcome! Staff was very helpful and friendly, everything is clean and tidy. Pool extremely cold for me but they have a jacuzzi where I spend most of my day! I really enjoyed my 2 days spa and I felt as I was spending a day in a family country house. I do recommend this place and I will try to go back again when weather starts warming up :)

Restaurant Manager ( Sunday 26 ) has Zero customer service skills and should be replaced - he thinks he is more important than the customers ….. which is a real problem

I'd pay the membership if they had a gym, otherwise its insane money for just a pool. Honestly, pay the extra and go to Castle Royle. Or pay slightly less for the spa, gym and pool membership at Reading Easts Crowne Plaza. There's also a decent restaurant at the Crowne Plaza too. Both offer free parking for members and you don't have to fight snobby grandma's for a place in the pool and are just much quietter experiences.

I went for a lunch to this place. Nice atmosphere, very relaxing. The lunch was good but pricey and a swimmer was splash water a lot though. My rather good experience was spoiled by the parking system. I was not sure exactly what to do. The waitress said I do not need to pay if it is under two hours but it was not clear that I have to ‘register out’ when leaving. The lido’s staff won’t help you even if you have problem with it. So be aware.

From the moment we arrived the staff were really excellent both in the spa areas and restaurant after. It was great to be in such a beautiful setting on a crisp Autumn day. I was worried I would only use the warm areas and not the pool, but after getting quite hot in the sauna, appreciated the pool and did a few lengths! The service and food in the restaurant were really very good. It felt like an amazing treat and I’d love to go back- maybe a massage next time!

Brought guest passes for my partner and I as a surprise and we both loved it. There are no lockers which initially worried us but it feels fairly safe for valuables. The hot tub can get full and the 30 mins max time was not always adhered to by some who seemed to stay in all their time. I would recommend bringing flip flops or sliders , and booking the dine and eat packages as they are good deals, we will be when I go back again .

Changing rooms really let the lido down, dirty & v wet. It was also very busy and hot tub difficult to get into as packed. Food was ok but expensive tapas for what you got.

A really beautiful spa and restaurant - which feels like an oasis in the middle of Reading. The spa features a (heated) outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room which are all a good temperature. Food too is also lovely, especially the tapas menu. Staff too are also wonderful, and so friendly!
