Review for Newington Road branch - Pretty disappointed with our visit here. Was deperate for a good Thai meal. It wasn't very Thai. My wife and I both ordered max chilli heat dishes and they weren't even close, my mum thinks a Korma is spicy and she wouldn't have had trouble eating these. No finesse or fragrance as you'd expect with Thai food, low attention to detail, slapped on plate. My dish was very heavy and greasy and my wifes very sweet. What I can't get away from is that it was like a Chinese takeaway doing a Thai Restaurant. Gutted to be honest.

Was at Newington Road restaurant last night for a birthday meal. We were a group of 12 and staff were kind and attentive despite restaurant being almost full. Shared starters were great! Asking for 12 different main courses was a lot to expect when place was so busy but although there were some minor delays all the food was delicious. One person said his sweet and sour pork dish but the best he'd had anywhere. Highly recommend and will be back.

Not an authentic Thai restaurant however the food was tasty , certain proper ingredients were missing from the dishes and one of the meals we ordered order was wrong . The wine prices were very high for a restaurant of this quality , over £30 for a bottle of red wine , which would in other restaurants coast £18-£20 . The staff were pleasant and helpful but the restaurant was very cold we had to keep our coats on .

This place serves typical Thai fare. We had Tod Mon and fried sweet potatoes for starters both were good. My husband had Red Curry and I had Pad Thai both were with Tofu. All our dishes were fresh and well prepared. We enjoyed our meal very much.

We visited their newly opened restaurant in Newington Road on Saturday 4th May 2024. It’s a lovely small bistro style place. Unfortunately, the food was very poor. I ordered Chicken Penang (which I usually eat) and it didn’t resemble anything like that. It was inedible. My partners dish was also terrible. Most of our food was left on the plate. The lovely waitress asked why and we explained. She said the cook (not chef) is Asian and not Thai. Unfortunately, even if they find a proper chef, we won’t be returning. It was such a disappointment experience. We didn’t ask for a reduction in our bill and didn’t receive it. I do hope they improve.

Beef Penang was very poor.Cocunut rice was so brickhard that It could be used as a tennis ball Returned the food.Staff very nice. The penang was cooked in a brown gravy....no herbs, spices could be detected. Sorry, I hate writing bad reviews.

We ordered and the food was very good. Had vegetarian pad Thai, chicken pad Thai, Tom yam with shrimp and mango sticky rice. Everything was very tasty

Pop in for a take away with my girlfriend, this used to be my favourite Thai in Edinburgh but I don’t know what happened we ordered 2 pad Thai they were really really sweet and one of them was tasting like burnt.

Fantastic little place. Owner and staff really friendly and awesome thai food. BYOB with corkage cost. Reasonably priced as well.

Mi ha portato mio figlio che vive a Edimburgo da anni dicendomi che é un punto di riferimento per la cucina Thailandense. É veramente ottimo. Abbiamonpreso un menú per due che includeva tre piatti ed una serie dinassaggi come entrante. Tutto davvero eccellente e ben presentato. Il cameriere è passato varie volte per assicurarsi che tutto andasse bene. Davvero bravi. Non metto la quinta stella per la porta sempre aperta e la temperatura era un po’ bassina per me. Forse é anche per aiutare l’aerazione del locale un po’ piccolo. Comunque merita una visita di sicuro.

Had the mango and sticky rice and felt quite close to home (bkk)! Reasonably priced compared to other places and the owner chef is a sweet lady. Will def be back for more dishes Edit: went here with my friend and we ordered a couple of dishes including panang curry, pad thai, red curry, satay and mango sticky rice. We absolutely loved the food. Hands down the best and most authentic Thai food one can find in Edinburgh. A must must must visit if you’re in Edinburgh and are craving for an authentic Thai food. Have added it to my go to Thai place. Heart and tummy both were very satisfied! Value for money. Friendly service. Once again, it took me back home!! Definitely coming back and will recommend others to visit too 🤍

The food was very good and service was good and fast. There is a small restaurant that gets very busy so either get there very early or make sure to have a reservation.

Amazing serves food was lovely water was ice cold weater was extremely nice went with friends and family they loved it too ☺️

Thailander remains my favorite restaurant in Edinburgh. Cosy, warm, friendly, and delicious. Best Thai food I have ever had. I dream about the Gaeng Keow Wan (green curry).

Thailander is basically a takeaway but, good for them, they've squeezed in 12 or so covers to allow diners to experience the brilliant food hot from the kitchen. Really, really good grub. Great value and delightful staff too. Highly recommended, but if you want to eat in, you will definitely have to book.

Booked a table in advance, really need to as its a very small restaurant, maybe 14 - 18 seats and very popular. They were turning people away or customers were reverting to take away. Food was fantastic, authentic and good sized portions, really good service.

Absolutely loved this little restaurant. The food was delicious - best Thai food we’ve had outside of Thailand. Staff very friendly. Had the sharing meal between 2 of us and we only just managed to finish it, both feeling very full afterwards. Very good value for money. The icing on the cake was being able to buy Thai Fanta - it’s just so much better than British Fanta! Only disappointment was that we didn’t have room in our bellies for mango sticky rice - so we will have to come back!

Best in Edinburgh!! I absolutely adore this place. Very good prices, authentic Thai food and made super fast as well. Cannot fault it whatsoever! Just thinking about it is making me want to go back ASAP 🤣

Came here for the 2nd time with a group of friends. Ordered all the starters and a mix of curries and stir fries. It’s a really superb little restaurant. As authentic as you’ll find in Scotland. Prawns were the star of the show - and love the fact it’s byob. Service was really friendly again and can’t wait to come back. Worth making a reservation as it’s really small but that adds to the charm of it.

Haven’t eaten from here for a while due to lockdown, but prior to that have eaten from here 4 or 5 times - always good. However, as they now do delivery, ordered tonight and am supremely disappointed. Couldn’t even tell the soup from the curry! Nowhere near the standard that I expected. Weird textured chicken, no bright nuanced flavours. Doesn’t feel like the same hand in the kitchen. Save your money and order from somewhere else. If you are local to Tollcross try Absolut Thai. Or if you are in their small delivery radius, Noks Kitchen.

Compramos un banquete para dos. Brochetas de pollo Guau, rollitos de primavera de cerdo, buenos pero solo 2 trozos pequeños de cerdo. Dips muy bien. Platos principales pollo al curry verde agradable, no mucho pollo, solo recipiente de tamaño medio. Plato de gambas y chile, solo x 4 gambas y muchas verduras. Verduras y ostras, fue realmente agradable. Medio recipiente de arroz cada uno. En general, la comida estaba demasiado cocida, el tamaño de la porción, fue impactante. Lo más destacado fueron las brochetas de pollo y la salsa satay. Relación calidad-precio NO. Calidad ok. 26 libras gastadas. Una lección aprendida.

Ordered a takeaway and the chicken was pink completely through. Extremely unpleasant. Food seemed to have just been reheated from frozen. We received a refund only after a lot of asking.

Las restricciones de Covid significan que no se puede sentar a comer, pero para llevar está bien y acaban de comenzar a entregar. Pedí una comida para llevar, la recogí a tiempo y estaba todo listo. Esto no es tailandés dócil, es sabroso y (¡Jungle Curry!) Picante. Absolutamente magnífico. Gran servicio y comida increíble y por el dinero, vale la pena cada centavo. Siempre opté por Passorn, Ong Gie (al lado y 3 veces el precio) o Chaophraya justo al lado de la calle Princes.Sin duda, Thailander es mi restaurante tailandés preferido en Edimburgo ahora. Sabores auténticos, servicio amable y rápido y excelente precio.El pequeño espacio en la calle Brougham siempre está lleno, siempre hay una cola y las ventanas están llenas de maravillosos sabores cada vez que se abre la puerta.Mis platos favoritos y recomendados son el curry Massaman, el kaopod tod (buñuelos de maíz dulce), el pak choop (tempura veg), el mun tod (tempura batata) y el arroz pegajoso con mango. Puede obtener todo esto, más 1 x más de curry por poco más de 30.

Authentic Thai take out from a tiny corner eatery. Friendly, accommodating service. Phoned ahead and picked up. Walked 5 mins from apartment at The Knights Residence. Queue of locals ordering which is always a good sign. Great tasting food.

El precio era muy razonable: 13 para dos platos de fideos vegetarianos. Podríamos haber pagado más en el restaurante tailandés más costoso al lado, pero no podemos imaginar que hubiera sido más sabroso.El servicio fue rápido, las cajas de comida para llevar eran tan resistentes que las colocamos en el lavaplatos para reutilizarlas, y la comida aún estaba muy caliente cuando nos sentamos a comerla. De hecho, un poquito demasiado caliente. Los fideos borrachos fueron descritos como picantes, y no especificamos qué tan picantes los queríamos. Although they bill themselves as a takeaway place, they do have a few tables in a very small space, but it makes for a very cozy atmosphere. Four of us shared two of the combination dinners (each is made for 2)--delicious, generous enough for leftovers, and very attentive service.

Just been to Thailander in Tollcross Edinburgh. They had today for the first time advised that none of their curries are Vegan as the curry paste they use contains shrimp, dispite being advertised as Vegaterian. They claimed "its personal preference some vegans and vegetarians eat that anyway!"I pointed out that makes the curries neither Vegan nor Vegetarian but they don't seam that bothered. I now feel they can't be trusted to be honest about thier ingredients and won't be back.I also feel it's important to warn others as we have had several curries from them with the assurance that the food was Vegan when in fact it was not. By selling food that is or Vegaterian when it contains shell fish or other non vegan / non vegetarian ingredients they put peoples life's at risk and break the law.

Called ahead to order takeout lunch. Really incredible food in generous portions at great prices. The pad Thai and Thai green curry were incredibly flavourful, staff were friendly and it looked clean. Will definitely visit again.

This place is an absolute delight, from the service you receive to the food. They do an amazing job of balancing the sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours of Thai food, which provides you with a delightful lunch or dinner.. my personal favourite is the Pad Thai, but the yellow/green/red curries are also a delight.

Four of us came here after reading the great Tripadvisor reviews....and we are so glad we did. Although the "restaurant" area is quite basic and is more like a cafe/diner, the service was superb, and really friendly. The food was truly to die for. Thai cuisine is one of our favourites and this little place did not let us down. Each dish was piping hot and soooooo tasty. They have a great inexpensive set buffet for two or you can simply choose your own dishes from a wide selection on the menu. In addition, it's BYOB with NO corkage charge so that you can enjoy your favourite wine, whilst enjoying your favourite food!!! We had a great evening. Highly recommended if you want a really casual fun experience with fab food at a very reasonable price

We love this place! Even before the refurb to a fun, cute diner we used to love coming here for our takeaway. Now we love sitting in! The Pad Thai is unrivaled, the Satay is succulent and the Spring Rolls with pork are incredibly tasty. I would high rate the Gaeng Massaman and the Red Curry always goes down a storm. Staff are friendly and accommodating of health needs as well as preferences. Really can't rate this affordable, tasty and delightful Thai restaurant highly enough =]

Value - tick. Tasty- tick. Good portions - tick. Authentic - tailored to suit local palate but can be pumped up to Thai palate if requested. The ambience is not Michelin level, but it’s clean and welcoming. Free WiFi.

My friends live in the area and always rave about how great the food is here. It's pretty much everyone I knows favourite spot for good quality, affordable food so I had been overdue for trying it.

Don't be put off by the exterior of this takeaway and restaurant. The modern seating area inside is lovely and clean with a nice laid back chilled atmosphere. The waitress was lovely and friendly and we just LOVED the food! Huge poritions and unbelievably tasty! The food is not just 'hot' - there are lots amazing combination of spices. I had the nicest Tom Yum soup and Thai red curry I've ever had! The vegetables were fresh and crunchy and not over cooked.

Petit restaurant simpa, décoration zen et épurée. Concept intéressant où l'on se sert les couvert et l'eau, on s'installe sur des tabourets hauts et mangeons sur une grande table conviviale. L'accueil est chaleureux. La personne qui s'est occupé de nous était très gentil et patient (malgré notre mauvais anglais). Enfin les plats sont servis généreusements, délicieux et authentiques ! En stater nous avons pris des beignets de patate douces : un regal ! Par contre attention pour ceux qui craignent les épices, c'était très très épicé !

I had the Padang chicken curry and coconut rice, it was good to eat a authentic Thai meal. Waitress was very friendly, definitely give it a go, I got there for early dinner and it quickly filled up with people.

Thailander is my 'go-to' restaurant for fresh, delicious and quick food. Their dishes are packed with flavour and very reasonably priced - after a long day at work I will often stop by to pick up a prawn Pad Thai on the way home. I've recommended Thailander to countless people and have always heard glowing reviews. Food, service and staff are exceptional! It's a staple of the Edinburgh food scene.

My friends and I have been coming here frequently for several years and we absolutely love it. The perfect place for a quick, delicious meal! Their new menu provides a 'Banquet' for two people: it's extremely reasonable and we were completely full! The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is brilliant. Can't recommend highly enough!

I just love going here at lunchtime. Great food, good quality and delicious time after time. The staff who work there are very nice too they’ve got it just right. I often see diners there tripping over themselves to catch the eye of the staff to thank them on their way out...there are above 15 sits inside..perfect!

Thailander is one of Edinburgh's best Asian restaurants! The food, service, and quality is always fantastic - a hidden gem, for sure! The lunch special is especially great value but I am a massive fan of their fried rice.

So i don't know if i should spread the word or just keep this gem to myself but really this is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is good and the price is reasonable. The pad Thai is excellent and in comparison to some of the higher end Thai restaurants that charge twice as much then taste over cost this place wins hands down.

Tucked in a little corner of Edinburgh is this small takeaway restaurant ..run by Game and his mother .So if ur living in the old town and have an urge for delicious Thai food head this way .Its a neat clean place serving authentic fresh home style food at reasonable prices.If you have any request like vegan or vegetarian they happily do the needful.

The sauces were great. But 5 prawns in a chilli and basil and flacid chicken skin in a massmam is not acceptable. A great potential meal spoiled economoics.

I've always struggled to find decent takeaway Thai in Edinburgh but great to say the struggle is over. Pad Thai was ace and same goes for the green curry, value for money this takeaway wins hands down!

This is a great wee takeaway / cafe type restaurant with a few tables and window seats. The food is always brilliant , very tasty and fresh and the staff are also brilliant . They also do an excellent deal on lunches with one course for £5.50 and 2 courses for 7.50 . Excellent value 12 till 3 every day!

Best Thai take away in Edinburgh. Tastes like it does in Bangkok. It gets busy later in the evening and especially at weekends i.e. just like a good take away should. Phone up, order and then pick up yourself to save time

Tom Yum noodle was really nice! The portion is big and the food was delicious! Worth the money!!! The prices are reasonable. Even not the best atmosphere type of restaurant, but it taste as close as authentic Thai food

First time customers, walked in to order and takeaway. Place is classic takeaway, not posh but fine. But you're here for the food. You can see the kitchen through the hatch and it looks fine.

I was visiting my friends in edinburgh and wanted some authentic Thai food. I am Thai and this was just delicious. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back again soon

I don't usually like to get Thai take out as the delicate flavours often get lost as the food sweats in the cartons during transport. We gave this place a shot as it is only a couple of minutes walk from home so the food would be in the cartons for only a short period of time.

It is great service, even thailander is a takeaway. There are few seats that customers can sit in and eat; first come and first served. That is a great service

Best green curry ever since we left Thailand a few years ago. We popped in because other restaurant nearby were closed. What a surprise!

What a punt! Best Thai food we've had since Thailand. We got our takeaway and sat in the park down the road. Mango sticky rice was so so good. All served from a nice tidy premises with clean open kitchen.

That is great thai noodles with nice and spicy taste. This can be said that it is the taste of Edinburgh Scotland. This is one of the recommended dish :-)
