Thai Lanna in Norwich

To be honest this is the first Thai restaurant I've been to (I tried it because of the lamentable lack of decent Chinese places in Norwich), so didn't really know what to expect. Had Chicken Gang Pa curry with rice and bottle of beer. It was nice, though quite runny, had to use a spoon instead of knife, presumably this is normal. It's hardly cheap, bill £21.40, dearer than the Indian I had the previous night. The curry was £12.75, beer £3.50, they say they don't make a service charge for under five people, so the rice must have cost over a fiver. And I wasn't best pleased that having paid with £25 cash, the waiter gave me change of £3.50, muttered something and then tried to whisk it away, as though I had consented to them having it as a tip! Next year in Norwich I'll eat in Wetherspoons and save a tenner.

Great value for authentic two course meal. Starters were very good: we chose the Thai fish cakes and prawns wrapped in rice paper. The latter was excellent. Pad thai and jungle curry followed. Pad thai was truly authentic and portion reasonable. Meals were prepared after your order making th3 food warm and fresh. Highly recommended.

Cute little restaurant with more tables upstairs. Yes, the tables are tight but this adds to the atmosphere. The food was delicious food with attentive service. We had the honey duck, coconut rice, chicken curry and some fresh noodles. All of it tasted really good, with fresh ingredients. The coconut rice was exceptionally good - I have this dish a lot and this was amongst the best I have tried. The service was excellent and I liked how the server encouraged us to use the number system to avoid mistakes, as well as circulating frequently to check that we were happy. I would definitely return.

This is a fabulous thai restaurant. The decor is super, staff really polite and well trained. Tucked away in a cute alleyway. Food is so fresh and really delicious.

I've walked past this restaurant regularly ever since I came to Norwich in 2014. I've often been told it was worth a visit by friends and acquaintances but somehow it just didn't happen........ Until today when my wife and I came for lunch. We arrived at 1.30pm to find the place pretty much full except for one small table.... Just what we wanted. Their menu is simple which is a good sign. We each chose to have a starter and a main which worked out at £25 for both of us. In a reasonable time our food arrived. We both had different dishes so we could sample each others. The food was good. We enjoyed it and will go again. Who knows, we might even become regulars😁 Just a final note. The toilets are upstairs and are simple but clean.

Another wonderful visit to Thai Lanna! We had the set menue for 2, delicious food as always, a small cosy setting and my favourite Thai restaurant in Norwich !

The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff provided top service the entire evening. Would definitely recommend, I will definitely attend again!

Called in here on the chance of a table, fully booked but offered to accommodate us if we could vacate within their time frame. We sat upstairs which was quieter than downstairs but still has a good atmosphere. We had the house wines which were good wines and good value. We had the chicken green curry with plan rice and vegetarian pad Thai. The food came quickly and portions were good size. Both meals were well flavoured and the green curry was fragrant and spicy. No pressure was put on us at all to meet the time line which we did without rushing or feeling rushed. The food was lovely. The service was great. The cost was not expensive for what we ate so good value to me. The place has a nice atmosphere, and we really appreciated being accommodated on a busy night.

Visited when I was in Norwich to see my sister. Stellar food, wonderful service, lovely homey atmosphere. There were three of us, we ordered starters and three sides and two mains each so we spent a good deal but it was worth every penny.

Fine, but not memorable. Not one that I would recommend to friends, but just OK. Quite tight upstairs, we had to open the window for some air. Servers were learning and very attentive.

What they do very well here is the food. It’s delicious and very flavourful. What they could get so much better is the service, in particular getting the orders right. 2 of our 8 dishes were wrong. On the second dish the waitress just showed us her notepad to show she’d written it down correctly (she hadn’t, we know what we asked for). There was no apology, just a ‘well it’s written down so it correct’ attitude. I’m not saying don’t go here but just make sure they get your order right.

Excellent, authentic Thai restaurant which we visited for the first time. Friendly staff, good service and the food was delicious. We had the duck and the seafood with basil and chilli which was very tasty. Will be back again.

Food is excellent, very authentic with fresh Tai flavours. Staff welcoming and service good. Nice, relaxed, cosy atmosphere. I had the Gai Krapow and loved it. Pad Thai also good. They get quite busy so recommend booking. Will definitely be back when I next visit Norwich

Not many vegan options. Most of the tofu dishes contain molluscs or crustaceans. So no options for Thai curry, just a couple of stir fry dishes, one soup and rice. Friends had meat curries which were fine.

Good food and a good lunch special. Efficient service in a small but cosy restaurant. Decent price and tasty food. Recommended.

Popped in during their lunch deal and was surprised by how good value it is! 2 courses each and drinks for 2 people for around £25 is amazing and the food was so good!! Very good flavours and very quick service. Will be going back again with more people next time ~

Not even worth one start!!!never been treated like this in any restaurant. The food was ok, but the old lady was very keen to ask us to leave, even we haven’t quite finished our food. the restaurant closed at 10 and it was 10:22. If you want to go home early then don’t open a restaurant. The closing time is at 10, you need to let customers at least one hour to eat. Very bad attitude and rude!

Great starters- Aroy! Sweetcorn dumplings, Thai fishcake and satay (was less flavourful) Main was very simple. Jasmine tea was the best I've tasted.

Had the spicy corn fritters for starters and vegetable penang with egg fried rice for main. All of the food was delicious. Best Thai food in Norwich. The service was also superb. Food is very reasonably priced and they have a huge variety of choices for vegetarians (and non-vegetarians). Can't recommend them enough

Hidden gem, great lunchtime find in Norwich. Food to die for, we ate at lunchtime and there was a set price menu option of 1,2 or 3 courses. We each had 2 courses for £10.95. we all really enjoyed our meals, freshly cooked, well presented and tastes to die for. One of our party did not like Thai, they are converts. Highly recommended

Food was amazing! Except the frozen spring rolls. Staff didn't communicate in regards to taking orders so was asked alot if we were ready to order in a very short period of time (maybe 5 times in a 2 minute period) however they were very friendly, was nice to hear staff know customers by name so there must be people who visit regularly. Restaurant is very noisy, don't recommend for an intimate date as tables of 2 are very close together. Overall I feel the cost of the meal didn't justify the overall experience There's no parking but a pay and display car park very close by!

Best Thai food in the Norwich city

Ordered the set meal for 2 which was very nice. We asked for some soy sauce with our starter and they charged 50p extra for about a tablespoonful !! Come on guys that's as tight as it gets..................

I love this place, authentic and tasty Thai food at affordable prices, been several times now and never been disappointed.

Had a wonderful meal on a busy Saturday evening. The place was busy, simply because the restaurant was very small with a ground floor and upstairs dining room. They managed to squeeze us in for an 8.30pm sitting which worked out just fine. Had the chicken wings for starters, followed by chicken pad Thai and Red prawn curry and jasmine rice. Was delicious, service was warm and friendly. The separate dinner plates are served hot, which was a nice touch as well. Chose this restaurant as seemed to have the best reviews and food photos out of all the other Thai restaurants, and was not disappointed. Even when we left the restaurant was still full, must be very popular, so recommend booking ahead to get a table. Will surely come again, when next in Norwich. Thank you!

Absolutely lovely food, great lunch menu at a very good price

The lady owner at one point had her phone on loud speaker near customers while sitting in restaurant so not good, hence 4 star instead of 5, however the restaurant was small and intimate and very nice, the food was lovely and her young staff were immaculate and very professional.

We had a very nice group outing to this restaurant. No complaints. The food was excellent value, and the seating was cosy. The matriarch of the establishment was very nice also.

Called in as a group of 4 without a reservation, and got a table with no issues. We were the first customers of the evening, and did feel slightly uncomfortable on arrival as directed to a table with 3 chairs, and had to just wait a moment whilst a member of staff sorted. One couple ordered the set menu for 2, and the second couple a mixed starter and a main meal. When the food arrived only one mixed started as part of the fixed menu arrived and the main meal for the second couple. So it seemed their starter order was missed. In fairness we didn’t say anything, they just then had their main meal. Food quality was excellent and very prompt service. Busy cosy restaurant. Would fully recommend, but perhaps check the order has been understood.

We returned to Thai Lanna because we enjoyed the food so much on our first visit. My husband's choice of Gai Krapow with noodles and my beef Green Curry with special fried rice were cooked to perfection with fresh tasty ingredients. Very generous portions were served but we cleaned our plates! Service was very friendly. When we return to Norwich, we will definitely want to eat at Thai Lanna again. The friendliness and courtesy of the staff was confirmed the next morning when I knocked while they were busily preparing for lunch, and a search was conducted for my lost reading glasses . I want to thank the lady who even took the trouble to follow me out to express her wish that I would find them.

Wonderful authentic Thai food. We had the chicken wings to start and then the ginger chicken and garlic chicken as our mains with side of rice. Really recommended and great value especially for our courses on the lunch menu.

My second visit to this lovely Thai restaurant did not disappoint - just like the year earlier the service was impeccable and the flavours fantastic. Next time I am in Norwich I will return.

Thai Lanna, 24 Bridewell Alley, Norwich NR2 offers delicious Thai food, even better than Mango-T in the same area. Food are fresh so it is tastful. Highly recommended.

I’m very aware that this review will get a quick response from staff because they respond to all the negative reviews. Good tactic there, the same when they told us that there was nothing wrong when we were paying our bill (in full, through gritted teeth). We should have known this place didn’t deserve the recommendation we had heard when we saw the 40 page menu. The food came out about 3 minutes after we ordered… that’s why Thai restaurants go to Iceland. The tofu satay was 4 sticks of unseasoned Hampshire chalk with no more than 20ml of satay sauce. The pad Thai was a ridiculously small portion… come on! It costs nothing to cook! 20 minutes after walking in we were paying a £27 bill (tofu, pad Thai, two beers - £4 each for 330ml) Can’t knock the business plan though, apparently they get “fully booked” selling microwave meals.

We ordered Pak Tempura, mixed vegetables deep fried in tempura batter until golden brown, light and crunchy, served with a sweet chilli sauce, Tom Yum Mushroom hot and aromatic soup and a tofu and vegetable main with sticky rice. The food was well presented, very tasty with punchy flavours and a pleasing variety of textures. Service was good and the restaurant is small and cosy.

Stopped here with family for lunch. Great value and some of the most authentic food I’ve experienced in the UK. The waitress/owner was extremely friendly and referred to everyone as darling. Green curry was perfect.

"Food is good but service is bad." I had put a One Star review in Google but you had argued that it was not your problem since you received many 4 or 5 reviews from other customers. I put another One Star here and I like to emphasis that you have Double Standard in serving your customers. Your face told me that you did not care about us as your customers. So I give you "One Star". This is logical and not my problem. It is your problem.

Food is good but services is bad. Better go to other Thai restaurants than this one.

I found this restaurant via an ad on a van. The van driver doesn't work for the restaurant but it's a brilliant idea and clearly works. The restaurant is small and cosy and is run by a lovely family. Food is perfect, tasty and for myself was at the correct spice. I had a green curry with chicken, something I could eat every day. Price is great and service is above and beyond.

Booked in advance for Friday night. Restaurant wasn’t full, not a good sign. Food very bland hardly tasted of anything just a coconut curry & rice. Bottles of Singha fairy expensive. Service acceptable.
