Thai Garden in Kettering

I read with disbelief the very unpleasant review below. . It doesn’t sound at all like the same Thai Garden restaurant we have been visiting for the last 25 years!! We have just had an excellent 4 course set lunch which was delicious! Every table was taken and the staff although very busy coped well. Leo was in charge and did a great job. We will of course return as I am sure so will the other diners there today.

The food tastes great! Courteous service from staff! good! The price is moderate! Worth a try. 👍👍👍

The whole experience was terrible. The service was extremely poor. We had to wait a long time between courses and no attention was paid to us at all. The food was literally shoved onto our table on cold plates. The food was poorly cooked, with no flavour whatsoever, and the plate of vegetables were so overcooked and slimy they were inedible. When it came to paying the bill, which was £77, we only received the payment receipt from the card machine, no bill saying what we had ordered. Such a let down, as it used to be a superb restaurant when it was run by the previous owners. We certainly won’t be recommending it now.

Lovely staff and delicious food but expensive

I've been here several times and it is always consistently good. This time we had the set meal B. £31 per person. Duck pancakes had plenty of duck. The steak on the main course was amazing, very tender. The king prawn dish had plenty of prawns and very good and the mince dish was super tasty. The lettuce and pork were a nice first starter. I couldn't fault the food in anyway. The mix starters had nice flavours on the ribs. It was all very good.

I haven’t been here for a long time and now back in the area we called in for dinner, as good as I remember, lovely food well presented and good service.

Really good quality food covering several Asian cuisines. Have eaten here several times over the past 10yrs or so and never disappointed. Only slight niggle is the service could be friendlier

Ww have been visiting this restaurant for 20 plus years and it has always been one of our favourites. However our recent visit was not great. Food with the exception of the sambal was good but service not up to usual standards. Has ownership changed? No check back to see if food OK. We had the chefs mixed starters and the girl serving couldn't tell us what they were and didn't offer to ask. No one came regarding more drinks. Service charge now added on and to be honest on this occasion (although I paid it) the service didn't merit the charge. Will we revisit..not sure on that as wasn't a good customer experience.

Disappointed, been here many times and it was excellent.The new owners lack the welcoming hospitality of the former owners. Meal and service very rushed,food standard now average ,attention to detail lacking. Was one of our favourite places but sorry we won't be back.

Birthday meal. Service and quality of the food was first class

Ordered a take away and it was ready dead on time of the collection. Food was exquisite and so, so tasty. We normally eat in with friends but still felt like we having the same, excellent meal whilst at home.

Good looking restaurant and very friendly staff. Ordered a few take away dishes & was very disappointed with the curry dishes & pad Thai. Curry sauces were bland, not authentic Thai and zero spice despite asking for extra ‘Thai spice’

Nice food well presented just a little overpriced

Had an amazing dining experience in this little gem. Serving freshly cooked delicious Thai/Chinese/Malaysian cuisines in a pleasantly clean environment. Staffs were attentive, polite and friendly and they do cater for takeaway too. Fully recommended for those who fancy Oriental’s cuisines with a bit of a twist.

Really gorgeous food, big choice too. Attentive staff and not rushed in any way. Can't wait to go back.

Once again.a superb Sunday lunch. No wonder the restaurant is full! All the staff are charming and extremely helpful. The food as usual was delicious. Where else can you get a four course lunch for just over £19 which is always tip top. No where in London or elsewhere can better this. Thank you!

They are not patient with customers if you order via phone.

Called into this restaurant without a booking on what was, clearly, a busy Friday evening. They managed to seat us but, fairly, told us we had only an hour or so to eat as it had already been reserved. There's a wide-ranging menu with something to suit most palates. My wife went for the satay chicken and we shared a plate of noodles. Hers was lovely, as were the noodles. I went for the king prawns in ginger, garlic and lemongrass (which was described as moderate heat on the menu). Such classifications are subjective and, to me, it was quite hot but, having said that, the flavours were immense. Beautifully cooked, the prawns were exactly right, not overcooked as in so many other places, and the blend of garlic, ginger and lemongrass was perfect with each being perfectly balanced. If heat is an issue I'm sure the chef could tone down the chillies but, for flavour, it was phenomenal.

We ordered the set meal for two which is always superb. Great variety and by far the best food of its kind in the county. The serving staff are also excellent and attentive. It can be a little expensive but quality costs.

Fantastic meal at the Thai Garden. 3rd time we've visited, and every time the food has been fantastic. Tried many starters and mains between our group of 6, and all of them were just delectable. Beef rendang was a particular favourite. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, recognising us from our last visit, and having a nice joke and chat with us. Will definitely be back!

The ambience, staff and food were superb. We both went for the Imperial starter followed by dishes from the Malaysian and Thai menus; Sue had Crispy Kung Po Fish - which was stunning, and I loved the Thai Goong Shu Shi. I cannot recommend the Restaurant highly enough.

We visited as a belated celebration for my Birthday. We arrived a few minutes early but the table was ready and the waiter was prompt and took our drinks order. The restaurant was very busy, the busiest we've seen it in a long time which was great, the food was still delivered to the table in good time and it was delicious, piping hot and very tasty. Thank you Thai Garden staff for making it a great evening for us. We will definitely be returning.

The food was incredible! The staff were a little rude and not at all helpful. If you've never eaten Thai food before I would recommend coming here first. Oh and if you can't eat with chopsticks they will shame you before giving you a knife and fork.

This is the second time we booked the vegan buffet which only happens on Sunday at 12.30.The restaurant will cater for vegetarians or vegans for the Sunday lunch and because it is so good we have decided to make this a habit for us.The food is freshly prepared and begins with a large platter of tofu, skewers and thai veg in delicious sauces.This is followed by several platters of equally good fresh dishes with quite generous portions throughout.Dessert was battered banana and apple.The whole meal costs £19 which we considered good value for the variety, freshness, service, and volume overall. If you are a vegetarian or vegan we consider this restaurant to be the best Thai food that we have found for miles around and we are assured that they will change regular items on the Main menu to suit meat and dairy free dishes at any time.

We went as a group of 5 on Mothers Day, we were quickly taken to our table, the menu explained which was a Mothers Day special set menu consisting of 7 different starters, 4 main courses + rice and desserts. The food was delicious and portions were plentiful, staff are friendly and attentive without being over bearing. Can highly recommend Thai Gardens and will be returning soon.

I have been a regular at Thai Garden for some time. When ordering our food, we stated that we have an individual with a nut allergy on the table. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai arrived with nuts sprinkled on top. We informed our waiter so this to be sent back and for a new dish to be brought out (reiterating the nut allergy). They brought out what seemed to be a fresh Pad Thai, however when consumed (by the individual with the nut allergy), it was apparent that they had just mixed the nuts into the dish, as opposed to them being sprinkled on top. This caused an allergic reaction. We politely informed Joanne, the manager, who was not apologetic or sincere and did not offer to remove the pad thai from the bill. Instead, Joanne accused the individual with the allergy of lying as the customers sat nearby to us are doctors and did not think this was an allergic reaction. We were horrified at Joanne's behaviour towards this and her rudeness. There was no customer service, Joanne was simply concerned about money and profits, so much so to accuse us of lying about an allergy! A few months later, we decided to visit again and hoped for a better experience. As soon as we entered and were waiting for our table, Joanne approached us and said that she does not want our business as we are trouble makers. This is disgusting behaviour, Joanne would benefit from a course in customer service and should refresh her knowledge on allergens. What a disgrace.

Our first visit and our meal was excellent. Service was just right and we will certainly be booking again.

It is a very good restaurant that serves Thai, Malaysian, and Chinese food. The meal was excellent along with the service.

Today we took our 2 year old grandson to The Thai Garden for Sunday lunch. The staff (and the other diners) were so good with him. He loved the food particularly the seaweed the rice, aubergine and chicken. What a great restaurant this is with such a happy ambiance. No wonder we keep going back. Wonderful food at a very reasonable price. I think the much younger generation will want to return too!

A high quality meal, that comes with a somewhat high price. If you want a tasty meal as a special occasion, this is your place. (You need to book) If your expectation is a quick cheap bite to eat, you are going to be disappointed. Pleasant staff, clean, free WiFi, overall its a very nice place to eat, but like many places these days the drinks bill often equals the food bill...

Was travelling away alone, and not happy to hear when the restaurant was open and quiet that they would only accept me on my own unless I spent a minimum of 20 quid. Told her she had put me off, to which she said thank you bye. So, I went to the Indian and spent way more for a great meal.

Update: 2021 lovely meal, great food. 2018 Other guests were allowed to be rowdy and ruined our evening. Food was excellent, but couldn't hear ourselves think, let alone converse.

We booked a table for our anniversary. It was a long overdue visit, we were trying to remember the last time we'd been and it must've been about 10 years ago. The staff were wonderful, we had a nice table away from the door. The food was superb, piping hot and the portion sizes were just right, and although the bill was a little higher than we expected, we didn't mind paying a bit extra as we had such a great night. We will definitely be returning.

Easily our favourite restaurant in the area. Always our go to date night and never ever had a bad meal! Service is always fab too! Super duper place!

We have just been to the Thai Garden for the first time, We went as a Party of8 people to celebrate our Grandaughters Engagement, The staff were first class very polite, and let us take are time ordering, We were not rushed in any way, The food was Fantastic very hot and well presented, We have been to many different places to eat, But this comes out as No 1, We will certainly go back. STICK YER PRAWN CRACKERS....... Average Take Out SHOCKING SERVICE & ATTITUDE 👎👎👎 We ordered Thai green veggie curry for my wife's birthday meal. I ordered beef massaman curry + 2 rice dishes. We live 15 minutes away and arrived for our order ready. They checked order. Got home to find the green thai veggie curry was red & chicken. My wife was hungry so ate some of the sauce & veggies and left half the sauce and all the chicken (she's vegetarian) I phoned in to tell them about the wrong order FIRST SHE SAID SHE CHECKED THE ORDER AND IT WAS CORRECT. NO - IT'S RED AND IT'S CHICKEN. DO YOU WANT ME TO SEND YOU A PICTURE ? She asked me to return it. We live 15 minutes away but I said yes and she said she'd personally prepare me another veggie green curry. I ARRIVE - NO REPLACEMENT CURRY READY - ANOTHER 15 MINUTES WAIT AND I'M 😠 ANNOYED. SHE ALSO SAYS THAT MY WIFE HAS ALMOST FINISHED THE WRONG CURRY AS HALF GONE. NO - SHE PICKED OUT THE VEGETABLES. She grumbles off & 15 minutes later brings out my replacement green veggie curry IT'S ONLY HALF FULL 🤬 FULLY JUST OUT OF SPITE 😠😡🤬😠😡🤬 THEIR MISTAKE (she spoke to kitchen to check) MY WASTE OF TIME. MY WIFE'S SPOILED BIRTHDAY MEAL. SPITEFUL SERVICE LEVELS TOTAL DISREGARD FOR CUSTOMER. REALLY BAD ATTITUDE NOT AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. Peter & Sue, Arthingworth.

Booked in advance and on entry we were welcomed by the staff, all very nice indeed. Had a range of different dishes showcasing Thai and Chinese cuisine. All very delicious indeed and was not greasy one bit. Only negative is that it was quite expensive at the end of the day.

We stopped here en route from Birmingham to Norfolk.. What a find? We were greeted by friendly and warm welcome and enjoyed service with a smile. The food was delicious - I'm vegan and was very pleased with the options. Thank-you! We'll definitely stop by if we in the area again!

Absolutely delicious food! Great staff and a lovely atmosphere. We took my 12 year old daughter who hasn't eaten at a non English restaurant since we discovered she had a nut allergy 10 years ago. They were absolutely amazing! They were brilliant at making sure she was happy and we were all clear that the food was safe. Food was delicious and my daughter at it all! We'll be back!

My family has been eating at this restaurant for over twenty years. We have celebrate many events, and come to know the current manager and this wife very well. It's a great environment, lovely fresh food and become a second home to us. We hope it says the same place we know and love after the current manager retires. Thank you for all the amazing food, times and experience. 10/10.

The food was delicious but this is not a restaurant for families with children. We took our 2 children (3 years old and 1 year old) for a lunch meal and were made to feel really unwelcome mostly by some of the other diners but also by staff. We have been there before in adult only parties and everything was fine so perhaps they just need to clarify that they don’t want children visiting. My children sat in their seats the entire time and did make a normal level of noise for children (just chatting to us mostly) but were in no way badly behaved or disruptive. Despite this the staff were quite rude to our children rather than speaking to us about any concerns so we ended up cutting our meal short and leaving as we were all upset. Was a shame as the food is lovely.

This is anything but Thai. It is British Chinese through and through and not a great Chinese at that. If you enjoy a good Thai, this is not it... If you like British Chinese. Give it a go.

We've given this restaurant a few chances but disappointing every time unfortunately. High prices for average CHINESE food- definitely not Thai sadly. We were spoilt with incredible authentic thai food for years before we moved, so this added to the disappointment. They charged us an extra £12 for three extra tiny sauces (maximum of a table spoon of each!) We so wanted to love this place as live just around the corner but we much prefer our takeaway chinese to the food here I'm afraid.

My family of four, booked a table for the Saturday evening of 29/01/22. We were celebrating a special occasion. The establishment know us very well as we have been going there for around 20 years for takeaways and family meals. For takeaways we spend an average of £75 and for meals around the £95. When we arrived on the Saturday we were informed that they were overbooked and we would have to wait for over an hour, there was no real apology or explanation, just excuses which changed depending on who we spoke to. We asked for complementary drinks whilst we contemplated either to wait, or order a takeaway. The manager Joanne was extremely reluctant to agree to offer us a drink and said that we could not have anything expensive; which would never have been our intention. They reluctantly provided drinks. We then ordered a takeaway which came to £68 and I happen to ask if we could have a small discount to compensate for our disrupted evening. I have never witnesses such rudeness and unprofessional behaviour from Joanne, who categorically said 'no, you have already had a complementary drink, so we cannot offer you that'. Despite me reminding he, that we had been loyal customers for around 20 years, this had no impact at all. We were so shocked at this reaction, we told them that we will never eat there again. Having now read other customer feedback I can now see how greedy this restaurant is. I was only really looking for a small goodwill gesture, perhaps only £10 off , but they lost £58. They do not value their loyal customers, and this is so disappointing.

If you are a fans of thai foods. DO NOT GO THERE. Food was tiny which not value for the money you pay. whats more, one staff even asked for tips when I paid at the bar which made me felt very awkward. I think it’s abit rude to beg money from customer directly as there was a small extra fee included on the bill that I don’t know where it comes from, which I thought it was a service fee. Won’t go there anymore.

Faultless. We got a short notice table for 2 on Saturday night and couldn't have had better food and service anywhere else . Just fantastic.

We were taken there by my son in law and daughter for my wifes birthday, had a lovely meal in which we used chop sticks. waiters were very attentive and explained dishes and slightly modified the heat on one for my wife .

The starter tasted nice but at £8.50 each at a minimum of two people, I felt a bit ripped off for the amount and what we had. £17 for a plate between the two of us left me feeling disappointed. Not value for money. The mains tasted ok but the Curies lacked in sauce and vegetables. It consisted of small pieces of thinly sliced chicken in a sauce only. The flavour was ok but I usually enjoy soaking my rice in some of the sauce from this particular curry, I wasn’t able to here leaving me to eat the rice pretty much separate to the curry. The dishes are also on the smaller size. The staff made us feel very uncomfortable, constantly watching us and standing no further than 2 meters away from the table. They were waiting to pounce and remove things from the table without notice. I had a sweet and sour sauce taken away when I wanted to keep it for example. At one point about 5 staff members gathered very close to my table whilst having a big debate in their native language. I couldn’t relax. I will say the staff were accommodating to begin with towards one member of our party who has particular dietary needs. Things turned very very sour at the end when one of the dishes ordered just lacked massively in expectation (hardly any sauce, no vegetables, just a bit of sauce) The female manager repeatedly demanded that we would pay for the dish and at one point had her right fist clenched raised by her side whilst leaning over the table towards us. She spoke in a raised voice whilst repeating YOU WILL PAY FOR IT”. She had to be told to clam down…. In the end she added extras on the bill for a tiny plate of duck sauce and “extra pancakes” we didn’t know we had ?? The bill was brought to us and wasn’t itemised, it was written in Chinese and only had the total amount. She demanded we pay the amount on the ticket. There was £5 taken off the total bill in the end after a battle with her… all of that commotion for £5 off when it should have been £9 I will never return to this restaurant again, the food was ok at best and It’s a tad over priced. They way that female manager/owner acted was very confrontational and unprofessional. Her parting gift to us was“ When you come again this won’t happen again, you will pay next time” There won’t be a next time…..

Delicious meal, great choice of dishes

Started with delicious Chicken Satay as a starter , followed by Crispy Aromatic Duck ( which was perfectly cooked ) - a half duck is perfect for 2 people. This was followed by main course of Ikan Stim Pedas ( steamed fillet of fish in a Malaysian sauce ) this I asked to be made spicy and ordered this with coconut rice . The meal honestly reminded me of great times in Malaysia , the food was authentic , delicious and I left this restaurant smiling . A big thank you to Sam who helped me choose my main course - fantastic service with a genuine love and knowledge of the dishes. I would highly recommend this restaurant .

Been going to the Thai Garden for around 30 years and have yet to have a meal that was not up to their high standards. Excellent variety of Thai, Malay and Chinese food. The service is friendly and efficient. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Lovely ambience, helpful staff, really good food. Not cheap of course, but Thai never is for some reason. Top tip: if you want it to be hotter than mild, specifically ask for it. All our food was very light on chilli, even those dishes that the menu suggested were hot.

My family and I have been coming here for over 25 years. I'm no expert on Asian food by any means but I am a fan and I can confidently say that the Thai Garden will not disappoint! On our visits there is generally around 10+ of us and we're always easily accommodated in a warm atmosphere with plenty of space. The staff are courteous, friendly, and professional and I really can't rate this place highly enough. There is ample parking across the road which is really convenient and usually free for when we go (in the evenings / weekends) but check the signs as presumably it isn't always free!

Absolutely fantabulous! Great service tasty food. I and my friends loved every minute of this experience. The team were friendly and polite, the food was tasty and fast but not too fast! The restaurant is elegant smart and friendly. The food was exceptional and great price for the quantity and quality. Well done
